Relaxation Aids from Our Pals at Itchio
There are a lot of games in the BLM Itchio Bundle that are designed to be chill and relaxing, but I wanted to shout out five games/experiences that are especially geared toward that which I enjoyed. Life is crazy right now, we all need some help chilling out right?
Here’s the link to the collection: https://itch.io/c/986613/relaxing-meditations

Islands - https://carlburton.itch.io/islands
A surreal, dreamlike experience that’s kind of a puzzle game but is mostly a “click on things to trigger animations” game. There are multiple stages, all focused on mundane objects and liminal spaces, and they follow an odd sort of logic. It’s slightly unsettling but also compulsively playable in a meditative kind of way. I don’t know it’s hard to describe, but it’s very pretty and if you’re a horror fan I think you’ll vibe with the aesthetic a lot.
Wakamarina, NZ - https://cavesrd.itch.io/newzealand
Literally a walking sim. You can take a stroll through a photo-realistic, beautifully rendered forest and enjoy relaxing music and ambient nature sounds. There are little easter egg features scattered throughout that let you do things like use a camera or fly a drone, and apparently there are objectives to each explorable area, but you have to explore to figure it out -- there’s no in-game guide about it or anything. This is VR-compatible, but I haven’t gotten a chance to try it on my Oculus yet. I bet it’s great, though.
Pixel Fireplace - https://hammertail.itch.io/pixel-fireplace
Incredibly charming. It’s exactly what it says on the tin -- a pixelated, Minecraft-style fire that you can pop up on your monitor and have crackling merrily away. It makes for a nice background while you’re working on projects. But it’s also interactive! You can type various words to see what happens, like changing the color of the fire to bringing up pixellated snacks to roast and enjoy.
Just Rain - https://robysoft.itch.io/just-rain
Okay, if fire doesn’t do it for you, how about rain? Bring up ambient rain sounds and a soothing animation. You can customize it by specifying if raindrops should be randomized, by adding more or less thunder, and by toggling between a monochrome and more colorful scene. There’s a sleep timer on it so it will shut off after an hour if you’d like, if you’re somebody who likes to sleep to rain sounds.
Shutter Stroll - https://jannikboysen.itch.io/shutterstroll
This is my personal favorite of the batch. You just wander through various strange landscapes and take pictures. The art style is colorful and a little surreal, and you can get some really lovely images out of it. Your photos are saved for you, and you’re also encouraged to share them on social media under the hashtag #ShutterStroll, which is beautiful just to scroll through (and scrolling shows you JUST how much actual variety there is in things to see in this game!)
