Some character and episode notes from HZ007, writing them down for future reference!

- I still enjoy seeing everyday life scenes on the ship, seeing everyone doing their own thing and keeping the ship running. Liko is still writing down notes about Nyaoha, observing that it likes grooming. Liko seemed surprised by how excited Roy was first thing in the morning, which I liked because it highlighted their differences in personalities (and something I liked about the episode is all the small ways of displaying the differences between characters).

- Liko and Roy had a short battle, which showed that they still lack experience since they were ordering moves in succession without really thinking. Nyaoha and Hogator get tired quickly, so the battle ended in a draw.

- Friede gave the updated Smartphone Rotoms to Liko and Roy. I like how modern the show feels now by bringing up group chats, seeing characters call each other or send each other messages to keep in touch. It’s also cute that the Rising Volt Tacklers have a group chat, so I hope we’ll see them send each other messages sometimes (I’d like to know their writing styles over messages, who’d be more likely to add emojis and things like that). I was also wondering if Liko and Roy were going to keep calling Friede “Friede-san” during the whole show, so it was interesting to see that now that they are both full-fledged members of the crew, Friede brings up that they don’t need to be so formal and tells them that they can just call him Friede and gives them permission to do so. Roy was faster to adapt, while Liko was a bit more shy to drop the -san, but she still did. It reminded me a bit of HZ001 when she called An without honorifics.

- I didn’t expect there to be another member in the crew! I wonder if eventually, the opening will feature Dot. Dot is Gurumin and she is Murdock’s niece (so it makes sense for her to be part of the crew since she has a relative there, it’s not like she doesn’t know anyone). I really got Otosaka Shion (from Shadowverse Flame) vibes from Dot so far. She seems more introverted and reclusive, she is tech savvy, and seems to have more experience and knowledge about Pokemon. Friede says that she can be grumpy and strict on trainers. I wonder if we’ll see her family eventually, or learn more about her past. I can’t wait to see Liko and Roy’s reactions upon learning she is Gurumin since they are both fans of her. Liko and Roy’s dynamics is really good so far, so the thought that there will be a third character their age to bounce off of them is really exciting. I wonder what Dot will bring to the dynamics.

- Liko pointing out the similarities between Nyaoha and Kuwassu (they both like cleanliness) was cute. So was Roy immediately apologizing for bothering Kuwassu.

- I like how seriously both Liko and Roy are about being members of the Rising Volt Tacklers. They want to be trainers who can say they are part of the crew with pride. I also like their different reasons for wanting to become stronger. Roy wants to become stronger with Hogator to catch Rayquaza. Meanwhile, Liko brings up Amethio (she brought his name up in her narration and during the episode, so that’s three times so far counting last week’s episode). I really like that she looks back on their confrontation and feels frustrated that she couldn’t do more against him. I had a feeling that she would want to become stronger to be able to stand against The Explorers so seeing it explicitly stated like that is satisfying! Amethio becoming a motivator for Liko to become stronger is very intriguing (especially since Friede and Amethio had more battles so far) and I hope they will face each other off in some way in the future. Liko feels responsible that everyone is risking so much for her, and Friede tells her that she doesn’t need to shoulder everything alone. I like that Friede is always showing support and reassuring Liko and Roy. Liko says that she doesn’t want to regret not being strong enough, and that she wants to protect everyone and what she holds dear too. Friede is understanding with them, and he is willing to help them train.

- I liked the training with Cap. Cap has a fun personality! The rule was that if Liko and Roy could land a single hit, they would win. Roy thought it’d be easy, meanwhile Liko was more on alert, telling Nyaoha not to let its guard down since Cap is strong. Cap was trying to convey something through the battle and Friede was giving Liko and Roy hints by telling them to look at Cap more closely, to understand there was a trick behind the Shadow Clones. I especially enjoyed the fact that the training made use of one of Liko’s aspects, being that she analyzes situations and thinks a lot. Liko tried to understand the trick and eventually found out that Cap wasn’t multiplying randomly but was moving backwards in a zigzag. If Liko battles more in the future, it’d be interesting to see her analytical side coming into play!

- The scene with everyone having lunch was also a nice way to display differences. Roy and Hogator both seem to like spicy food. Nyaoha likes bitter food but Liko doesn’t seem to. She takes notes of Nyaoha’s food preferences. I wonder if Liko and Roy will try to cook food for their Pokemon eventually?

- The battle between Liko and Roy was also a fun one. I liked that they made use of what they learned with Cap. They were more careful and looking at the opponent. Friede says that you’re never alone in a battle and that you watch your opponent closely and order moves in sync with your opponent. Roy singing the Hogator song also made a comeback. The battle ended in Liko and Nyaoha’s win, and Liko was excited to see that Nyaoha learned a new move. Both Liko and Roy are improving! They both thanked Cap for the training. They learned how fun battles can be and Liko finds herself admiring both Friede and Cap as she strives to do her best along Nyaoha. Roy was bummed that he lost, but he says he won’t lose next time.

- Dot eventually sends a message to Liko and Roy revealing that Rayquaza is in Paldea. I wonder how she keeps track of where Rayquaza is and how she gathers information? Liko ends up curious about her. Also, both Liko and Dot seem to like drawing, so they have something in common already.
