I love sewing for my friends from time to time. I recently made @dinosmu1 a top for her dinofashion wardrobe. When I saw this cotton jersey on the @minervadotcom website, I knew she needed a top made with it. This knit has a great weight and was perfect for the Shwin Designs Hamburg Dolman. I had intended to make Rissa the Hamburg Dolman before - I already had it printed and had made her fit adjustments to it, but didn't have enough fabric for it. This time, I had more than enough. The sleeves on the Hamburg and what I lovecabout the pattern, but they take a lot of fabric! I did add length to the body for a Tunic instead of doing a banded top per the pattern. I got this fun fabric from @minervadotcom in exchange for a blog post. I didn't get this to make something for myself, but for one of my friends @dinosmu1 As we approach Thanksgiving I think it's important to think about what we are truly grateful for. I very grateful for my handful of friends that are local to me in the sewing community. Even though we don't get to see each other often, I know they are there for me. And when we do get together, it's as if time hasn't passed since the last. We can chat for hours and laugh until we hurt. I got a bunch of solids and other quilting cottons from a local sewist who's hanging up her sewing hat and destashing. Sight unseen I told her I'd take all her solids as I'm so bad about keeping any in my stash. I usually have to buy them as I need them. Many of these colors are not something I'd pick, but I'm going to keep an open mind and see what happens over the next 6 months. Everything else I got was pretty random and just what caught my eye. Boston @greysfabric doesn’t exist anymore but when I did visit with my sister @carolebouchard123go , I met @cashmerette and @laney_belle in real time and Sarah via Skype. @airdelune sent her husband with a gift because she couldn’t leave her ailing son (he’s doing fine now) and I bought every @threadsmagazine they had, some @robertkaufman #mammothfleece, a whole bunch of @clovermfg tools, @grainlinestudio #aldershirt pattern and... and... Last time I had lunch with @thriftystitcher in September, she showed me what she was working on, her Masters work and so on. There was this colour block hoodie and being the frank person I am, I said : “Meh! It’s nice and everything, but I don’t make hoodies, I buy them.” We talked about having stuff to chew on sewing wise, the cost of making a hoodie with good sweatshirt fabrics... and then... this.
