Betina Popova and Sergey Mozgov's RD costumes 2019-2020
OK so I'm back
Tumblr media
Let's start this off just by saying Wow this is a Look™.
I mean damn, it's great on both of them, very Cabaret if I do say so myself. It's interesting, it's fun, not something we often see in ice dance really.
Tumblr media
The colours are great, Betina looks absolutely stunning in that shade of green, the yellow on Sergey also looks good on him (which is difficult 'cause yellow is a bitch of a color) and they complement each other.
The faux garter on Betina is just so sexy and it only gets better when you see that the skate coverings are like that so they look like thigh high boots, which just adds to the costume, it makes it very coherent and it looks like a complete set.
And Sergey, God, Sergey he just looks so good the pants are very well tailored, the suspenders and the bow tie make the whole thing very snazzy, yet combined with the mesh gloves it gives it a great touch, that really helps it match with their music.

Another thing that makes this great is Betina's headdress of course and Sergey's mustache.
I really like the two photos above 'cause I like how Betina looks with the black tights underneath the faux boot, there's not like an actual reason for it, I just think it's neat.
Tumblr media
In short, these are amazing costumes, they look good by themselves and also look like they belong together.
There's nothing of the usual beautiful dress paired with a black shirt and pants, which I appreciate, they both look snazzy, they're both really well fitted and they really go a long way without having so many things related to like intricate detailing and stuff with the exception of the pinstripes on Betina's bodice.
And overall it really wouldn't be as great, without their great interpretation. They're just really cool costumes and really good skaters.

Betina Popova and Sergey Mozgov, 2018 Russian Nationals FD
youtube
In all her 21 years of life, Betina Popova has never once even heard of the concept of phoning in a performance, and no one should ever tell her because she’d be absolutely crushed. She doesn’t just perform to the cheap seats, she performs to the people who didn’t even get seats and are straining to catch a glimpse through their binoculars across the street. Her partner, 23 year old Sergey Mozgov, doesn’t quite match her blazing fire so much as support it with a subtler, intense performance that allows him to hold his own while still letting it be her show, entirely appropriate for a Carmen program.
Due to injury, their first season together never quite got off the ground, but they came roaring back last season with two programs well suited to them, this FD in particular. Fiery, dramatic, and powerful, it’s no wonder their scores shot up this season. It’s not even structured like a typical Carmen program, with a long, quietly intense beginning that builds tension until they finally snap and hurtle headlong into a passionate step sequence. There are many things to appreciate about this program-- their speed, the solid lifts, the fast, secure twizzles, good choreography that includes difficult, unusual transitions and strong body shaping and comes together to form a cohesive whole that other programs of this type sometimes miss-- but really, the performance is what really made the judges sit up and take notice this season.
As a young team heading into their third season, they’ll be looking to build upon this season’s unexpected success with new coach Anjelika Krylova, who recently returned to Russia. They’ll be competing this fall at Grand Prix Finland and Internationaux de France, where they’ll attempt to prove themselves as being a team to take seriously for the future and set themselves up for a berth at Europeans or even Worlds.
