Wait, idea I don’t think you’ve touched on, Mermaid!Desmond with Altaïr. I got nothing else, just MERMAID.
I don’t think we ever had a mermaid AltDes idea before. I mean, there was an ask about Fairytale style AU with Beauty and the Beast for AltDes instead of Little Mermaid.
As like with all the other old asks, I can’t find it here anymore XD
Okay, so for this AU, let’s set it in modern-ish day where Altaïr took over his grandfather’s company after his death and made it successful but he’s… ‘bored’ with his life.
He spent decades ensuring the company didn’t go under after his grandfather’s death, had to deal with one of the people he trusted trying to take over the company from under him and an amicable divorce that left him a bit hollow and… a bit distant with their two adult sons who have their own lives now.
Darim had told him that he should take a vacation and leave the company to him for a few months, get some fresh air, travel…
Altaïr believed it was his own son telling him that he needed to take a step back.
After Abbas’-
Well…
A lot of people were wary of him. They were worried that he would take them down as well if they were to just breath too close to him.
Or too loudly.
Altaïr was sure that it was because he had been full of rage back then.
Abbas’ betrayal had come as a surprise.
They never saw eye to eye on a lot of things but Altaïr never expected Abbas to go that far, trying to drag his name and even his family into the mud just to find a way for him to rise on top.
Altaïr had simply enacted vengeance upon him the way he was raised.
And that led to…
Well…
His older son telling him to take a break.
So here he was…
In this isolated beach house that had once belonged to his mother, left in disarray after decades of neglect.
It had been Sef’s idea, suggesting he might be less bored if he has a project of his own.
So he starts to repair it slowly, takes a walk on the beach after every meal…
Sometimes he even fishes.
It is during one of those walks that he sees him.
At first he thought he was just one of the rare visitors or tourists who didn’t know that the beach near his house was
(1) private property
(2) not really a good beach because it was full of sharp rocks
He was sitting on one of the rocks a little away from the shore, his lower half being hidden by the waters.
The tides had been a bit stronger than usual back then so he called out to him to tell him to get back to the shores, not really in the mood to have his family’s beach be part of an accidental drowning of the idiot kind.
He looked back and Altaïr froze.
There was something… strange about him.
Altaïr couldn’t place it.
He was beautiful.
The kind of beauty that was dangerous.
With golden eyes the same as him.
.
Unorganized Notes:
Desmond is a merfolk and it’s neither confirmed but there is something about him or the way he speaks that seems to have a slightly hypnotizing effect. (which points to the idea that Desmond may or may not actually be a siren, not a merfolk)
Desmond didn’t bother to hide the fact that he doesn’t have human legs and thinks Altaïr’s reaction to be funny. He keeps coming back to the shore to talk to Altaïr. Once he learned that Altaïr is staying nearby, he stays by the shore in front of Altaïr’s house.
Altaïr thinks there’s something more than Desmond’s “I ran away from home” excuse of appearing in his family’s beach but he didn’t press, enjoying Desmond’s company.
Desmond and Altaïr slowly grow closer as Altaïr fixes his mother’s beach house.
Later on, Altaïr starts to fix the basement and finds a hidden door that leads to a underwater cave. Desmond finds the other end of the cave and they start to wonder why Altaïr’s mother build such a thing.
They later find out the beach house was build by Altaïr’s great grandfather from his mother’s side.
Desmond finally explains that the reason why he ran away to Altaïr’s beach is because he heard stories of a mermaid who disappeared around these parts.
“They say she made a deal with a witch to gain her freedom.”
It seems that Altaïr’s great grandmother was the mermaid of those stories who didn’t make a deal with a witch, instead falling in love with Altaïr’s great grandfather and staying with him.
Up to you if the way they did it is with the great grandmother mermaid staying on the underwater cave to be with her human lover or there is some kind of spell involved that is in one of the books in the house that can exchange a merfolk’s long life for the mortal life of a human.
Or because Altaïr does have merfolk blood in him, he can actually transform into a merfolk himself.
In all honesty, I just want to write an idea of a middle-aged Altaïr for an AltDes for once XD

Assassins as Roommates: The Christmas Miracle of 2019
Altair made a mental note to thank Maria for her insistance on the red suit. It kept him warm, and thus gave him an advantage over the snow Shay and Liam were hurling at him. Bumping into someone, he tensed for battle on all sides, but found it to be Malik. After curt nods, they dueled back to back. Arno stepped out from behind a tree, recognizeable from his new cowboy hat, and pulling nerf pistols from his new hoisters.
“Where’s Darim?”
“Malik, now?” Altair felt his friend shrug, and cut a snowball in half before it hit him. “Travelling.”
“Again?”
“Malik!” Malik rolled over Altair’s shoulder and slashed at Arno’s foam bullets. They landed soundlessly in the snow. Altair was faced with Kassandra, and focused his frustrations on her. “We made him travel with us for work for so long when he was young.” He slashed at her sword, but she was strong and held fast. Creating a circle, she’d hoped to loosen his hold on his, but Altair was smart. He allowed her to do the motion, then sidestepped, pushing her until she ran into Connor, who was fleeing from Aveline and his mother. Kassanda landed in the snow, laughing, and Altair helped her up.
Shaking the snow from her legs and backside, she said, “I don’t fall in battle so easily.”
“Just out of your element, is all.” Altair assured her, and pointed to her brother. “Do you think Alexios would fair as well?” A mischevious grin on her face, Kassandra ran to her brother and Altair returned his attention to Malik who was, no pun intended, single handedly fighting Aya and Elise.
“He’s a good boy, Malik. I’m not going to force him home. If he wants to travel the world endlessly with his friends,” Altair encrouched on Malik’s battle, fighting through Elise’s guard, tossing her sword into his hand, and handing it back. “Then who am I to stop him?”
“It’s the holidays, Altair.” Malik watched his friend chase off Elise and Aya, and readied himself for Gerard and Adewale. Far away, Connor roared,
“Who gave my mother a hidden blade?!”
Haytham brushed snow from his son’s shoulders and assured him. “Think nothing of it, Connor. She can’t take us both.” Ziio undid her other blade and Haytham gulped, “On second thought...”
Adewale welded an axe, Gerard with duel cutlasses. “This explains so much.” Malik defended, sidestepping Adewale and shoving him into Jacob. The pair fell into a bank of snow.
Altair kicked Gerard down, then used him as a ramp to leap off, throwing a snowball at Evie’s face. “What does that mean?”
The snow made a wet slapping noise, and made Evie’s hair cling to her face. Jacob’s laughter filled the yard. Malik pushed Gerard away, and he and Altair headed to defend their fort. “This is why you’re like that this time of year.”
“I’ve no idea what you mean, Malik.” Altair said, when in fact he knew exactly what his friend meant. “Darim is welcome home whenever he’d like.” Altair handed Aya a sword and now it was she who ran into battle. Altair leaned against the fort, deep in thought. “Whenever he wants.” A shelf of snow was dropped on his head, and Maria danced away, laughing. Shaking the snow was his body, it already absorbing through the suit, Altair chased. “Maria!”
When the battle ended and everyone was cold, they all went inside for the fireplace and hot chocolate. When the night wore long and they were ready for bed, all that remained were Maria, Altair, and Malik. Each man had a head on one of Maria’s shoulders, and they talked and watched the fire. Neither aware of how their Christmas had only just begun.
Darim had been travelling, as he’d told his father, but that wasn’t all he was up to. You see, Darim had figured if the rest of his loved ones had found their way home, then there had to be some who’d gotten lost along the way. And, when his parents had called and asked him home for the holidays, Darim suddenly knew what he had to do. It broke his heart to hear his mother sad over his not visiting, but he hoped this would make it up to her. And he knew their family was not the only one hurting.
It took time, almost the whole year, but he’d done it. Now to execute the plan. Knocking on the Auditore door, Darim bid Happy Holidays to Ezio, and, when Ezio asked what he was there for, Darim asked him to step outside. There, hidden just out of sight, was the rest of the Auditore family. Ezio staggered, disbelief on his face, tears in his eyes as his father took him in his arms, and his brothers hugged him. Claudia, upon wondering what was taking him so long, screamed at the sight, and ran into her mother’s arms. Yusuf and Desmond watched with huge smiles at the door. Darim headed to the next house.
Demetri, one of Arno’s friends, opened the door, and Darim asked for both Arno and Elise. “What a beautiful, strong woman you’ve turned into.” Her father said, and Elise dropped Arno’s hand to leap into her father’s embrace. Burying her face in his neck.
“I knew you’d figure it out, Arno.” Charles Dorian took his silent son’s hand, and pulled him into a hug. “I am so sorry I wasn’t there to guide you, but I see you did just right without me.”
“Papa!” Arno cried.
Aya and Bayek were the scariest to face as Darim was nervous of how they’d take it. Aya pushed her husband out of the way when Darim knocked the door with her son. Bayek leapt to his feet, holding his wife and child. Darim had never seen him dance before.
Myrrine was a wonderful woman and kept calling Darim ‘lamb’. His own mother called him little sheep, on account of his curly hair, so the words were sweet to hear. Her husband said little, just shifted side to side, and Stentor entertained Darium was jokes and snide remarks. Upon opening the door, Kassandra and Alexios wrapped their mother in a hug, holding hands, then begged Darim to stay with their family for the night. Unfortunately, he had more work to do, he’d told them, and off he went.
This one wanted to do it their way. Knocking on the Kenway door, Edward answered. “What? Not going to invite me in, Kenway?” Edward stared, the blood drained from his face, his mouth agap. “After all I’ve done for you, you’re gonna muck up my sassy lines.” Mary Read’s voice carried amusement and Edward’s face went red as the tears began. Taking her into his arms, Edward lifted her off the ground and gave her a whirl. Connor, his parents, and Adewale peeked from the door, and then Connor ran down the steps.
Kanen’to:kon had barely time to brace himself before Connor tackled him into a hug. “Put me down, Kenway!” Mary complained, but Darim didn’t see her fight him off. “Put me down before I box ya ears!”
“Ratonhkhake:ton!” Kanen’to:kon was lifted a foot off the ground, and looked queasy. “You know how I feel about heights!”
The last house gave him the most pause. “Are you sure?” The young boy beside him asked, and Darim knocked. The glow of the fireplace told him someone was awake, but he couldn’t image who it could be until his father stood before him. “Darim?” A smile brightened his face when he saw his eldest, “Little Sheep, you came home?” Darim sidestepped, and Altair’s smile dropped.
Darim had never seen his father cry, couldn’t even picture it, so when tears ran like rivers down his face as Altair slowly descended the steps, Darim didn’t know what to do. “Sef?” Altair’s voice barely above a whisper, like if he spoke too loud the image would evaporate and his heart would be broken again. The boy looked awkwardly down, like a boy in trouble. “Sef?!” Altair collapsed at his youngest son’s feet and hugged him, held him close, and sobbed. His body racked, and Sef wrapped his arms around his dad, crying too. “Sef!”
“I’m sorry I didn’t come home right away. I thought you’d be mad at me.”
“I could never...” Altair couldn’t form the words. Sensing something amiss, Malik was next at the door and his face went from shocked to crying like Altair. “Sef? Tazim?!” Malik’s son rushed to him and Malik took him in, crying. “My son! My son!”
Maria had now appeared, and upon seeing Altair, ran, screaming, and threw her arms around Sef. Tears rolling down Darim’s face only fell harder as Altair pulled him down, bringing Malik and Tazim in with them. The family finally whole. It was a Merry Christmas indeed.

Being Ezio Auditore’s Twin Sister Would Include..
Warning - Angst because, I can. This is like a part.2 to this so, make sure to read it first, guys.
Being the younger twin.
Being the one out of the two of you that uses upper brains.
Being the closest to Little Petruccio.
Being Claudia’s champion.
Your father’s office being your favourite place to be, in the Palazzo.
Loving all the books and paper, there.
Being there when your father has certain guests over.
Being your father’s little girl.
You and Federico teaming up against Ezio when he does something wrong while thinking with his bottom brains.
“I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?!”
A pair of blank looks being shot in his way.
Being a lady in your own decent way.
Your own way is being a great, untouchable, wise, calm, cockblocking, not desperate and uninterested.
Pants, boots, shirt and corset being your go-to and day-to-day attire.
And according to your older brothers, that makes you your father’s third son - Petruccio being the fourth.
Slapping Ezio every time he comes home with injuries after being involved in a street fight.
Then, starting to tend to his wounds.

I mean, who wouldn’t like a non-reckless, artistic, adorable being as him?
Being involved in every naughty thing of Young Ezio’s doing because, you do everything together.
Sneaking to where Giovanni, Federico and Petruccio are locked up with Ezio.
Standing on watch while Ezio goes up to talk to them.
Having a bad feeling about getting the papers to the judge.
Ezio shrugging you off when you tell him.
Him, making you stay with your mother and sister when he goes to your father’s and brothers’ trial.
“I can’t let you go alone!”
“You can and you will! Stop being stubborn and listen!”
Pacing around the empty yard in your house, trying to calm down.
Deciding to follow Ezio because, you’re a savage and he doesn’t have the right to prevent you.
“We have to run!”
“What happened?!”
“Run!”
Ezio forcing you to go to Monteriggioni with your mother and sister.
“Take care of them.”
Trying to stay sane for your sister.
Being your uncle’s little girl.
Him worrying about your blank reaction to your father’s and brothers’ death.
Him understanding after a chat with you.
“Why does she get to run the Villa?!”
“Why does she get to do nothing around the villa?!”
You and Claudia being jealous of each others’ tasks.
“Because, your sister has another task and it is harder than anything around the villa.”
Him showing you to the library, knowing you’ll find every secret in it if you were left alone in the room.
Finding ancient books in foreign languages - Ancient Egyptian, Arabic, etc - and so, you start looking for other books to learn those languages first.
Reading about the old brotherhood.
Reading about the restored brotherhood.
Reading about Assassins throughout history, not knowing they were actually Assassins.
Putting it together when you find their crest on one of the history books.
Confronting Mario.
“We are Assassins, aren’t we?”
“I am. Your father was the last Master Assassin. And hopefully, if your brother passes the test, he will renew the creed.”
Mario, finally telling you all about the Creed.
Meeting Assassins when they come to meet Mario.
Meeting Machiavelli way before Ezio did.
Mario giving you a certain secret book to read when he feels you’re ready.
“A prophet?…”
“A machine?…”
“Ezio?!..”
Mario nodding, silently at you with a smile.
“Smart girl..”
Reuniting with Leonardo in Venice.
“L-Leonardo!”
“Signora! It’s so good to see you!”
Bonding with Leo.
Finding out from him that Ezio’s in Venice.
“So, who’s the lucky man?”
“…”
“I have not seen you in a couple of years..”
“Uh, no! I’ve been in Tuscany with my uncle. I just had a few errands to run here.”
Your errands being gathering the Assassins then, meeting Ezio for confrontation.
Being Ezio’s right hand, as you know so much more than him from all the books you have read.
Sticking by Eio’s side being your new mission.
Leaving you with Claudia when he firsts leaves for Masyaf.
Finding your way to Constantinople through the books you read.
The Assassins there being aware of your visit.
Yusuf being his usual charming self to you.
Him being amazed by your strategic skills and your knowledge.
Making your presence known to Ezio when he first arrives after Yusuf greets him.
“Ay! What are you doing here?!”
“I was here first. I should ask you that question but, I already know, brother.”
Ezio hugging you, tightly as he had not seen you in over a year after growing so used to always having you around.
Yusuf showing you and Ezio a certain mansion.
“So, this belongs to the Assassins?”
“I am surprised you do not know of this already, Lady Auditore.”
“This belonged to a woman, who had a great hand in rebuilding the Creed with Altair Ibn La-Ahad.”
Reading letters, that woman have left - Codex pages.
“His sister?”
“Twin sister.’
You and Ezio sharing a look.
“She had quiet a history - she was a warrior much like her brother.”
“How did she get here?”
Him telling you the story of how she had to run from Abbas.
“She left her brother?”
“She always managed to go back to him, as well.”
This holding so much meaning to you and Ezio.
Altair’s sister’s codex helping you find the keys.
Also, getting to know distant - very distant - relatives.
“So, what did you find out?”
“You could be assured that the Auditore bloodline will go on.”
“You think Yusuf is single?”
Rolling your eyes at his tries to hook you up.
Befriending Sofia.
Teasing Ezio about her.
“I ship you both, for what it’s worth.”
Mourning the Assassins’ and Yusuf’s death with Ezio as you two sit in a tower, silently together.
Telling Ezio about what Altair’s sister had written about their relationship and what they used to do and the nudge with his fist that he gave her.
Ezio telling you about a certain Codex page that talked about Altair’s sister and her last words.
Going to Masyaf with Ezio and Sofia.
Having bleeding effect memories as you enter the castle of Masyaf.
“I can almost swear I saw a woman, there!”
“Sister, ‘Tis been deserted for years.”
Realizing what those visions were as soon as you see the inside of the actual castle.
Seeing a woman, who looks like you in a way, standing there, writing and talking with a man, who looked like her.
Gasping as you grab Ezio’s hand.
“I believe you have discovered bleeding effect, sister.”
Seeing so many visions of her - riding a horse around Masyaf, training in the yard, talking to her twin, talking to Assassins.
Stopping when you see a vision of the woman, old and falling to the ground.
You watch as she dies in her brothers’ arms before you.
“This is where she died, Ezio.”
Stopping in front of the library door to share a look with Ezio.
Going in with Ezio to seek Altair’s message and the piece of Eden together - just like Altair’s sister opened the pieces with him.
Ezio not seeing Altair’s last memory until you touch it, too.
“All that is good in me, began with you, Father.”
“All that is good in me, began with your aunt, my son.”
Watching the memory as if you were there with Ezio.
Hearing Maria’s voice, Al Mualim’s, Darim’s, Sef’s and especially, Altair’s sister.
Hugging Ezio, tightly as soon as you’re both done delivering your message.
The two of you’s eyes tearing up as you realize, it is all done.
Talking about Altair’s sister as you sit in the library a bit.
“She was not there for her brother, simply because of the danger. Yet, he still was there when she died.”
“Don’t be hard on her, sister. She helped in so many ways and he had a message to deliver. If it wasn’t for her, we wouldn’t be able to deliver ours.”
Going back to Tuscany with Ezio and Sofia.
Travelling between Constantinople and Tuscany, due to Assassins there needing you.
Being with Ezio until the end.
Holding him in your arms as you take your last breaths.
“T-Thank you, sister.. I-I love you and.. I’m sorry f-for everything.”
“Sh, I’m here.”
Travelling everywhere that Altair’s and his twin’s grandchildren will be.
Trying to soften things up for Desmond.
With Claudia’s presence beside you on your death bed, you still see a bleeding effect memory of Ezio.

Do we have a Phonenix yet in the menagire? We need one.
Phoenix!Desmond, probably looking like a normal bird for the most part, and stays with Sef when they go after the mongols (Altair probably thinks he's getting too old he looked a bit ratty lately) and takes the hit when Swami tries to kill him.
Idk whether to have this crack or angest with them thinking Desmond died, had a chick, and was apparently a female bird the entire time.
Okay, so I was checking the Phoenix wiki page for any information if it would be possible that Altaïr would know what a phoenix is and there’s this part written by Herodotus (yes, Kassandra’s Herodotos)
[The Egyptians] have also another sacred bird called the phoenix which I myself have never seen, except in pictures. Indeed it is a great rarity, even in Egypt, only coming there (according to the accounts of the people of Heliopolis) once in five hundred years, when the old phoenix dies. Its size and appearance, if it is like the pictures, are as follow: The plumage is partly red, partly golden, while the general make and size are almost exactly that of the eagle. They tell a story of what this bird does, which does not seem to me to be credible: that he comes all the way from Arabia, and brings the parent bird, all plastered over with myrrh, to the temple of the Sun, and there buries the body.
… which may be a reference to Bennu, the Egyptian deity connected to the sun, creation, and rebirth.
So Altaïr would meet him during his travels with Maria and he just stays. They assume he’s an exotic bird (or eagle), maybe a native to one of the places Altaïr and Maria visited.
Altaïr never told them that the bird flew into his room one night and began to chirp at him as if trying to tell him something. He also tried to tap the Apple but all it did was glow a bit.
The bird had been quite annoyed by it and began to hit it with his talons so quickly the Apple had a taptaptaptaptap sound rapidly before Altaïr could take the Apple.
After that, the bird just decided to sit on Altaïr’s shoulder when he left his room the following morning and Maria assumed he had bought the bird yesterday when they went their separate ways.
Her guess sounded so much better than the truth which was Altaïr spent the entire day yesterday holed up in his room, writing letters to be sent back to Masyaf as part of his deal with Malik in exchange for letting him go on this trip (which was to send letters detailing the geopolitical situations of the places he travels to with suggestion on what the Brotherhood should do in those parts… if they could do anything).
So nobody ever questioned the mentor’s newly acquired bird (except Malik but Malik had been more focused on the ex-Templar that Altaïr brought to Masyaf and married).
Then Darim and Sef were born and the bird (named Desmond because Altaïr thought of the name first when Maria asked what the bird’s name was) usually stayed with the children, letting out loud screeching cries whenever one of the two children were doing something they shouldn’t do.
When they got older, Darim and Sef learned the word ‘bribe’ and how Desmond can be easily bribed to look the other way in favor of delicious food.
Desmond stayed in Masyaf though, regardless if Altaïr or any of his sons left for a mission or to travel to a bureau. At some point, the bird had become a symbol of Brotherhood with its gold and red plumage.
So when Altaïr left with Maria and Darim to take down Genghis Khan, it was only natural for Desmond to stay with Sef in Masyaf.
Altaïr had been a bit conflicted though as Desmond’s feathers had grown quite… dull and he was moving slower than usual.
Maria and Malik both told them that Desmond was growing old and maybe it was time but the Ibn-La'Ahad boys refused to believe that.
Darim also believed that they might find medicine in one of the camps of the Mongols as they have been to many lands.
So when Desmond flew to protect Sef and got stabbed on the chest by Swami, Swami screamed as Desmond became shrouded in flames.
Swami burned as well and Sef could only watch in horror as white hot flames consumed the both of them.
Swami was left as a corpse charred beyond recognition.
While Desmond…
Only ashes remained…
And from those ashes…
Sef heard a small chirp.
As a little chick with red and gold plumage poked his head out of the ashes, shaking the ash from his small body.
Sef could only stare as he asked, “Desmond?”
And the bird gave him an enthusiastic chirp while jumping.

Inspired by the Patron Desmond sends his ancestors to earlier points in time and fucks over half a dozen timelines: Desmond wishes all his ancestors had someone to support them through their worst suffering without - you know, getting betrayed by them or watching them die.
So Bayek wakes up in the prime of his life in Altair's time and adopts this child who just watched his father die. When Altair dies, he and Bayek suddenly appear, both in the primes of their lives, in time to see the Auditore get arrested. Bayek, Altair, and Ezio are there when Edward's protecting the Assassins of Tulum and take the piss out of him. The crew plus Edward are there when Ratonhnhake:ton's village burns. They all sail to France on a whim and end up recruiting Arno. All of them appear in London to help out the Frye twins. And when Desmond gets kidnapped... the Assassins have an entire historical legion show up out of nowhere to help bust him out of Abstergo's clutches.
Kassandra keeps showing up, nobody's certain if she's with them all or not, but just... all of the main ancestors glomming together as one hugely dysfunctional murder family forged across time and space who all have the biggest soft spot for Desmond.
Desmond as their Patron has no power over this. This is happening solely based on his wish and he has no control who gets transported and gifted with immortality so even he does not know if Kassandra is also part of his immortality gang.
It’s Bayek who believes Desmond is a god and their patron, giving them this power to protect the world. Of course, there are times when he misses Aya and he wonders if this immortality is a curse. But then he hears the laughter of Darim and Sef before they run after him, grabbing his robes and asking him to tell them another story, grandfather tells the best stories! And Bayek’s lips curved into a smile. Perhaps the immortality is a curse but seeing the people he cares for and loves grow up and take the future for themselves will always be a joy that makes this curse worth it.
Altaïr would be the one to try and understand this immortality that they had. Would be the one to realize that they do die after their life runs its course but they will always be awaken in the same place together, back in their prime, with the memories up to their death. His first business would be to find his Apple and, after the long road he had to take to find the seals to open his library, he decided to set it up so that the next time he needed to find his Apple, it would be in the most convoluted way possible that only he would understand. It’s because of the Apple that they got to Firenze just as the Auditores were being arrested (they saved the day but it was a close call). Then Ezio’s Apple was placed on the vault and Altaïr felt a bit annoyed of how easy his Apple was secured so… he just plopped the Apple there as well.
It is Ezio who first thought of naming the glowing god that appears before them before they are resurrected once more Desmond. There’s something about the god with no discernible features other that his entire body glowing that made Ezio think of Desmond for some reason. Altaïr is the one who tries to search for this Desmond using both his and Ezio’s Apples.
Edward was the one man out. He wasn’t an Assassin yet but he had the makings of one. So they trained him. Bayek had done this three times already, he knows Edward Kenway is the key. Perhaps the next brother that will be given the curse of immortality. They stayed with him until he started to settle down in London, focusing on his family. They visited from time to time but they were not there to save Edward.
When they are resurrected once more, decades have passed and they could only try and save as many people as they could as the fires had already started. Including the mother of a young child by the name of Ratonhnhaké:ton. They stayed in the village for a few days, with the boy’s mother talking to Edward Kenway for a long time, ending with Edward learning of his son’s fate. So they leave the village to find him, to confront him. When Ratonhnhaké:ton was 13, he followed his mother out of the village and they meet once more. Haytham remains elusive and they suggested that they stay with the mother and son for a bit to ‘relax’, only for this to end with them teaching Ratonhnhaké:ton (and sometimes even giving tips to Kaniehtí:io.
And after everything was done, they sailed to France to support Ratonhnhaké:ton who received a letter requesting for aid from Lafayette. There, they met Arno Dorian and took him under their wings, helping him with his missions but only three of them at a time, for they have their own agenda for going to France. (And if this ends with Altaïr taking a Sword of Eden, well… that’s not really surprising).
Helping out the Frye twins had been second nature. Arno and Jacob met by accident when Arno had been buying one of the pubs in London (a financial focused habit he and Ezio had developed through the years) and Bayek thought they needed support (and guidance, so much guidance). By the end of it, they were sure that the twins would become like them as well. (And if this ends with Altaïr taking the Shroud of Eden… at this point, everyone already expects him to take custody over POEs)
It all ends with them moving into the modern day where they used their knowledge and experience to have a partnership with a group called Erudito. From there, it became easier to find the Assassins but their focus shifted when they heard of Desmond Miles.
And Ezio just knows… that this was the Desmond they were all searching for.

What if after Desmond runs away from the farm instead of ending up in the city he finds himself where his ancestors are at the same age
Also side idea that I had while typing runaway Desmond ends up after the ancestors have the children who lead to Desmond so that we can have them being paternal about the kid who keeps slipping away somehow and Desmond being like "wow the people dad sent after me are rant persistent" before finding out they don't know Will at all
So I had a post about Desmond being pushed into either the Third Crusades or to Renaissance Italy when he ran away but I can’t find it TTATT It’s somewhere here in Tumblr, don’t know where though. Hopefully, I can get to it during my Tumblr posts to AO3 ‘copying’ (still in Dec 2022 XD).
Anyway, in a nutshell, that idea had Altaïr and Desmond being very close to one another because they’re both isolated and had nobody else and it would be so easy for them to tip the scale to fall onto “us versus everybody” mentality for the two of them (especially since that idea had Desmond not become an Assassin so Al Mualim is using him to keep Altaïr in check).
The Renaissance Italy idea is more light-hearted, if I remember correctly? More on the side of Desmond having a happy family life thanks to the Auditore family.
I didn’t include it but Ratonhnhaké:ton’s version of this idea was pretty much reused for the Yew Branch A New Way To Do Things.
The main idea is that, since this is a Desmond that has not been in the Animus, he has no idea who these people are and the events that will happen (hell, he won’t even be able to know their language immediately) so he’s just trying to survive and live the best he could. This means he cannot stop the tragedy that will happen (or, in Altaïr’s and Ratonhnhaké:ton’s case, he would be too late to stop it). The Renaissance Italy version could have a happier ending since Desmond would be there for the arrest though. Probably. At the very least, Giovanni would order him to take Petruccio and run, so… at least Petruccio would survive. Probably.
Now, as for the second idea.
Since this is a Desmond that never went to the Animus, he wouldn’t know how important these children are so we will have…
Sef and Darim
It would be Sef who finds him and he’s just a traveling merchant who went to Masyaf to sell his stuff. Sef would always visit him and ask him about this and that.
Darim finds him while looking for Sef and Desmond just gives him another one of the sweet breads he buys for him (and Sef).
This goes on for days until Malik finally visits his stall and talks (interrogates) him. That’s when he finally learns that the two kids he’d been talking to are the kids of the head honcho of this place. And he’s currently out and the kids are a handful (Malik may or may not imply that their parents’ frequent journeys are to blame) so he offers Desmond a job as their ‘caretaker’. Meals and lodging are included, the pay is great and Desmond is getting tired with all the traveling. Plus, Malik promises he doesn’t have anything to do with the Brotherhood.
At that point, Desmond is already fond of the kids so he agrees.
When Altaïr and Maria returned to Masyaf, they’re greeted with Malik going “I found your sons a caretaker and they might like him more than they like you. You have no one to blame but yourselves.”
Flavia and Marcello
But for this one, Desmond could be working in Firenze for a merchant that Sofia likes to go to. Flavia and Marcello would go with their mother and they’d get close to Desmond.
One time, Marcello gets lost and Desmond finds him. He brings him home and that’s how Ezio meets him…
And now for the kicker. This would be the angstiest of the three ideas to be completely honest considering how old Ezio died and the fact that Desmond doesn’t even know about his connection with Ezio during this time, which will only serve to hurt Ezio.
Io:nhiòte and her older siblings
For this one, we’ll have Desmond become part of the homestead. He got there by ‘accident’, he was just walking around and found their homestead. Luckily, Oliver and Corrine needed help in the inn so he helps out, in exchange for lodging and food.
Io:nhiòte is the one who finds him first and Desmond just plays with her and shares his food. Her two older siblings find them together and Desmond becomes close to them.
Ratonhnhaké:ton would visit the tavern one time and thank Desmond for playing with his children. Perhaps he’d try to recruit Desmond into becoming an Assassin but Desmond would say no to it which Ratonhnhaké:ton would understand.
In this one, Ratonhnhaké:ton sees Desmond primarily as his children’s favorite friend.

How It Should Have Happened
(Part 1)
Malik rolled his eyes, but she knew her presence did anything but annoy him. That smile, that soft smile he reserved for his friends, lit his face. “Just tell me I’m right, Malik, and I’ll be on my way.”
“Never saying that, novice.”
“That doesn’t work on me.” The smirk on her face was challenged by his. When Malik had found her stealing on the streets of Jerusalem, he found her wit and fire as intriguing as her talent. They’d become friends. Malik feeding her in exchange for her promising not to steal from him and even running errands for him. After a few months, Malik went straight to Altair and asked that he’d take her as a novice. Altair agreed, if she could keep up.
But she didn’t.
She surpassed.
Malik thought back on those moments fondly, staring down at (Y/N) as the child he never had. “How is Master?” Her serious tone broke his thoughts, and Malik was brought back to the present. Standing before him, a proper Assassin, was she.
“Altair has been getting into and out of trouble in equal measure.”
“A specialty of his, if the stories are to be believed.”
“Well, I was there, so believe it.” Gathering up his books, his hand hit the one on the farthest corner. Before he could reach down for it, already imagining how difficult it would be for him to right himself, the book was gone. As were the ones on the table.
Now carried by (Y/N), she nodded towards the door. “To the library, yes?”
Malik smiled, the warmth in his heart growing for his student. “Yes.” The pair walked down the hall. Not as quickly as he once had, he thought grumpily.
“So?” She pressed and Malik rose a brow. “How are they?”
“Oh yes! Maria is well, she finds the travel invigorating. Darim,” Malik paused, grinning at (Y/N). He and Altair had been discussing a relationship between the pair for a while now, seeing them both as fitting matches, and, with the participating parties blessing, they’d have a wedding before winter. “His work is excelling daily. Quite the marksman, and quite the gentleman too.” Malik dropped his eyes to spy her reaction, but she was too busy reading the titles of his books. He frowned. “Ready for them to be back?” He’d hoped to pry her interest, but they’d reached the library.
For the first time, her face lit up. Placing the books where he needed, and climbing the ladder so Malik didn’t have to, she mused, “I want to hear all of Altair’s stories, and ask Maria about her adventures!”
“And Darim?”
She brushed her hands and admired her work. “Huh? Oh, it’ll be good to have the ol’ sparring partner back.”
“Just a sparring partner?” Malik pressed, and she looked confused.
“I mean, I suppose I could practice my archery too?” Malik groaned, and they headed towards the tower.
The sunlight blinded them a moment as they stepped into the courtyard. The sound of swordsplay, filled the area and bounced off the stone walls. Sand crunched under their boots, and they briefly watched the sparring with the group of Assassins who’d taken to the show. They welcomed her and Malik warmly.
The first few months were hard, but she’d fought, literally, to gain their respect and they now treated like her a sister. Well, those that weren’t trying to court her. Returning to the cool shadows of the castle, they spoke idly until a shadow stepped into their trail.
“Good afternoon, (Y/N). Mentor Malik.” Abbas bowed dramatically low, and when his eyes were on the ground, Malik could see (Y/N) shifting uncomfortably.
“Peace, Abbas. Good afternoon.” Malik and her returned.
“You’re looking radiate as ever, (Y/N).” Abbas ignored Malik altogether. His hungry eyes on hers. To her credit, she didn’t flinch. Malik had never seen her face so controlled.
“Thanks for the compliment, Abbas. Though, it’s not needed. We are both Assassins, and our respect is through there.”
“But (Y/N),” Abbas put his arm up on the wall and leaned into it. Malik rolled his eyes. “Don’t you think it’s strange? You being the only woman in Masyaf? Without a man’s protection? Don’t you think-”
“I must admit it’s been difficult these months without Mentor and Darim. However, Sef and Malik are here, as are the rest of my brothers, so I feel perfectly at home. Thank you for asking. We really do have to get going, but let’s chat again, ok?” Ducking under his arm, the pair left Abbas glaring in the dark. “That man always gives me a bad feeling.” She grumbled.
Once in the tower, Sef joined them with his family. It was insane how closely he resembled his father. Save for the dark brown he got from his mother, he had his father’s curls and eagle like eyes. Whereas Altair’s were gold, Sef’s were like molten earth.
After their weekly lunch and catch up with Malik entertaining the children, Sef and (Y/N) laughing about their early years, (Y/N) and Sef’s wife, Miriam, laughing at Sef’s expense, they all departed. Neither knowing how life would change.
Months had gone by, and the family hadn’t returned yet. Worry settled in their stomachs like metal. It was one day when Malik was watching from the tower that she suggested, “Send me, Malik. We haven’t heard from them in months.” This again. Since the letters had stopped, her insistance grew with each worry. “Malik-”
The doors opened and Assassins rushed in. Confusion gave her pause, but Malik was ready. Unfortunately, he was older and slower, and thus quickly disarmed. Held at sword point, (Y/N) froze her hand to her blade. Mohammad strolled, hands clasped behind him, into the room and circled her like a vulture. “What do we have here? Conspirators?”
“What is this?” Malik responded. “Have you forgotten-”
“Abbas said take the old man.” He yawned as if bored. “Kill her.” Then he turned on his heel, and left. Five more Assassins remained, and (Y/N) had to get to Malik.
He’d tricked them all! Slamming the head of one man to the corner of the wall, Malik sprang and grabbed the other, bringing his head to his desk before discarding him to the floor. She roared, undoing her blades, ready to cut through the very last of them. One attacked, and she deflected his blow by rolling with his momentum and releasing her elbow to his face. A statisfying crunch, and he was on the floor.
They didn’t know this tower like he did, so he feigned an attack, hoping one would loosen a throwing knife. To their luck, one did. Ducking down, Malik let it fly over them, and heard the musical sound of glass breaking. Now side to side, parrying blows and inching closer to the gapping window, Malik clenched his teeth. “Get Altair. He’ll know what to do!”
“What are you talking about?” She barely said, before Malik turned and shoved her out the window.
The last thing he’d told her was, “Don’t worry about me.” Then last thing she saw before rolling to correct her posture, was the bag go over Malik’s head. Landing on the ground with a roll, she ignored the pain to her right wrist and hurried toward’s Sef’s house in the village.
Night had fallen when she pounded on the door, and, thankfully, Sef answered. Before he could ask of her rattled appearance, (Y/N) pushed her way in. Upon seeing her state, Miriam took her wrist. When she winced, she hurried to get some cloth. “What has happened?”
“Sef, you and your family need to leave here. Now.”
“What are you talking about?” Sef took the cloth and wrapped (Y/N)’s wrist while Miriam picked out the glass from her arms and side.
“Abbas had taken Masyaf, taken Malik-”
“Then we must-”
“He tried to have us killed, Sef! I know he’s coming for you next, I can feel it. Get the girls, get out of here!”
Sef worked through his thoughts by attending to her wrist. “Will you be coming with us?” Miriam asked, and Sef looked surprised at his wife. She kept her eyes on (Y/N). She shook her head. “I have family in Alexandra, Sef. We could go for a visit.”
“No.” Sef said sternly, but the women were already planning.
“Sef, there was a look in his eye. We need your father.” (Y/N) took her wrist and gave it a spin. Broken. At least she was left handed. Miriam looked at her husband, and took his hand.
“Sef,” She spoke gently. “I’m worried.”
Sef looked between them, his expression softening. Finally, his eyes landed on (Y/N). “Do you need help finding them?”
“I know where to look. Be safe, and do not return until I send for you.”
Sef took her hand softly. “Thank you.” Turning to his wife, he spoke quickly. “Pack only what we need and wake the girls.” His wife hurried to the other room and (Y/N) followed him out.
“Where are you going?” He turned around, and kept her from walking out. “Stay here.”
“But-”
“I’m trusting you, right?” Plucking the brooch from the clasp of her hood, a silver piece in the shape of a bird, Sef pocketed it. “Please. Trust me.”
“I do, but-”
Speaking quickly, Sef became very serious. It reminded her of how Altair was when on a mission. “Abbas wants you dead too. I’m going to fix that.”
Her heart dropped. “Sef, you don’t mean-”
“Of course not!” He hissed, “I just know where to find a body.”
She didn’t ask any questions after that.
