I recently adopted a scraggy from a shelter, and I love him very much but he has this bad habit of headbutting things when he gets excited. Is this normal for most scraggy, or should I look into finding less physical ways for him to show his excitement?

that's a perfectly normal behavior for scraggy. headbutting is both an investigative and social behavior for them; it's how they explore their environment and also how they resolve conflict/claim objects. training it out of them is nearly impossible, and it's not something i'd really recommend trying to do, since it's such an integral part of their natural behavior.

just make sure not to leave anything breakable or sharp where he can reach. you can use those baby bumpers for things like table corners to keep him from hurting his noggin on sharp edges. their heads are pretty tough, so they can break more than you might think they can with a headbutt! you need to monitor any areas you allow him into until you're sure he's not going to damage things or hurt himself.
