so the abc has that article about the no dams campaign and it’s bloody brilliant but I do think that it should’ve mentioned that even if the project had gone ahead despite being based off of poorly done mathematical predictions... the west coast would’ve still been fucked over by the government. it had been seen as a waste of time since before then due to the mining bust. even ignoring that likely the only boost to the regional economy would’ve been during construction, and they likely wouldn’t hired locals for that, the hydro doesn’t employ as many people as it did then. there’d have quickly been the same amount of jobs as there had been and they’d have lost a major tourist attraction when tourism currently keeps the area afloat.
