#BoycottScream7
I will not be watching Scream 7 in any shape or form.
This should be exciting news. Neve Campbell returning. Kevin Williamson directing. But it's hard to shake off the black cloud hanging over the franchise after Melissa Barrera's unjust bullshit firing.
I am disappointed by Neve's decision to come back after the way Spyglass treated Melissa. I am disappointed that Kevin decided to come back after how Melissa was treated by Spyglass. And fuck Spyglass for simply seeing standing up against A LITERAL FUCKING GENOCIDE for an oppressed people and labeling it as antisemitism to slander and silence her. Fuck Spyglass. Free Palestine.
All this is to me is Spyglass desperate attempt to save their sinking ship.
No offense, but fuck all of you. Fuck Neve and fuck Kevin. And most importantly Fuck Spyglass.
The whole situation feels like a scab crossing a picket line.
Also Neve's announcement feels weird. Why is she this excited? She was never excited about this in returning for Scream 5. Not even 3 or 4. The second they fire her replacement, she's back and putting out a whole statement to do their damage control. She got her role back after the lead actor got fired for speaking out against a literal fucking genocide and her co-star refused to return after Melissa's gross firing(we all know that's the case, you can use Wednesday all you want but we ALL KNOW Jenna did not return) the whole thing just feels like a stab in the back from Neve to Melissa. Bottom line is Melissa was fired from this movie because she was being vocal against a genocide and Neve had no problem taking her place.
Melissa supported Neve Campbell when she left after not getting paid what she was owed, but Neve can’t even attempt to support Melissa in the most bare minimum of ways after she got fired and slandered for speaking up against literal genocide. Again, I am so disappointed with Neve.
Neve Campbell has no backbone. Melissa Barrera supported you without hesitation when they wouldn’t pay you what you’re worth for Scream but as soon as they (unfairly) fire her you’re just so happy to be back? with people supporting a genocide? Girl, fuck you.
The only way they could make this Scream situation any worse is if they kill off the Core Four off-screen in the most unceremonious tone deaf way possible.
Unless out of nowhere they rehire Melissa and issue a full throated apology, I am not watching this shit. Total offense, but fuck Scream 7 and I hope it flops miserably.
To me Scream VI is the perfect ending to the franchise. Sidney has her happy ending. Gale and Kirby are alive. The Core Four are alive. Sam contemplates keeping Billy’s mask, but ultimately drops it to go with Tara and their relationship is healed. It literally ends with dropping Billy's mask and it's the perfect end to the franchise and it doesn't need any continuation whatsoever.

So, after seeing your take on the situation with Neve Campbell and Melissa Barrera and all that drama that went down a while back, there's a couple of things I'd like to say about it.
First, it's not your place to tell someone, especially a POC or anyone from a marginalized group what they should think or feel, or to get over something. And even more so when it pertains to a situation like Melissa's. It shouldn't have to affect you personally to understand and respect other people's feelings.
Second, your attitude about the whole situation tells me you're obviously not as educated and informed about Palestine and Israel. And you should probably take a little more time to educate yourself about the matter, before you give your opinions and accuse anyone of anything. And you'd have to be pretty naive to think Spyglass cares anything about Palestine. They don't.
Third, Spyglass clearly doesn't give a shit about Neve Campbell either or the value she brings to the franchise. And again, you're naive if you think otherwise. You really think they brought her back out of the goodness of their hearts, and because they actually care? No way, they brought her back to save face. If they actually cared about her and the value she brings to the franchise, they'd have paid her what she deserved and treated her right from the start, and had her back for Scream 6. Honestly, Spyglass is who you should be disgusted with here.
Fourth and last, I don't understand why everyone is so up in arms about the newer characters. It's also very telling to me the fact that when Scream 4 came out, all the new characters were all white and no one had an issue with them or complained. But when the last two movies came out, everyone all of sudden has a problem with the new characters, because they're all POC.
And before you try to tell me it's not a race issue, I've seen all the racist shit people have said not just about Melissa, but also about Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. And this whole Neve/Melissa war that Neve stans created is evidence of that. Salty and pressed, because people can't stand the idea of a Latina being the final girl in a popular horror franchise. If you can't support your white faves without putting down POC, then maybe you shouldn't be a fan at all.
Anyways don't see Abigail because Universal supports Israel and free Palestine. 👍

2023 Movies You Need to Watch (Part One)
The year of 2023. What an interesting year it was for me personally. Honestly, I’m done with this year, so instead of thinking about the memories I’d rather forget, let’s go through the best movies of the year!
Scream 6 (Released March 10th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Wikipedia)
Starring: Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding
Director(s): Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett
Scream 6 is the first movie on my list and first horror movie! With the fifth movie being an excellent addition to the franchise, this sixth installment takes us out of Woodsboro and into the city that never sleeps: New York. This movie clearly benefits from the change of scenery, adding suspense in ways that was unreachable for the franchise until this point, like the subway scene with Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown) or the ladder scene with Anika (Devyn Nekoda). The story follows sisters Sam (Barrera) and Tara (Ortega) as they fight against another Ghostface.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Variety)
What made this one stand out to me more is the lack of legacy characters this time around. Courtney Cox returns as Gale Weathers, in a very small cameo, while Hayden Panettiere reprises her role as Kirby Reed from Scream 4 in a much more substantial role. Despite those additions, this is Barrera and Ortega’s movie, with their relationship becoming the main thing holding the movie together. The Ghostfaces (Yes, more than one) are kinda mediocre and predictable, but the motives aren’t, which makes up for it. All in all, an awesome suspenseful film that is a perfect end to a franchise, thanks to Barrera, Ortega, and the director leaving.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (Released March 31st)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Wikipedia)
Starring: Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis
Director(s): Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley
An underrated gem from this year is Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The trailers did this movie an injustice, as it was nothing like they made it out to be. Pine and Rodriguez play a perfect platonic pair of friends as they try to survive in this big fantasy world. The story follows Edgin (Pine) and Holga (Rodriguez) as they travel across the world to save Edgin’s daughter Kira (Chloe Coleman) from Forge (Hugh Grant). Everyone plays their parts to perfection, and it makes you feel like you’re playing as these characters, and it shows that not everything will go as planned.
Tumblr media

There are so many funny moments from the Fat Dragon to different ways Edgin gets out of sticky situations. It also helps that both Smith and Lillis play excellent side characters that add to the awkward dynamic that may feel familiar to D&D players. Along with that, there are fun cameos from different actors that I won’t spoil that made me and my friends laugh. I hate that this film didn’t get more love because it truly is a joy to watch it. All in all, this is an amazing movie that deserves more love, and you should give it a watch if you haven’t, you’ll enjoy it!!
Evil Dead Rise (Released April 21st)
Tumblr media
(Credit: IMDb)
Starring: Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols
Director: Lee Cronin
Another horror movie that came out this year, and on my birthday, was Evil Dead Rise! This was my first time watching an Evil Dead movie in the theater, and I really enjoyed it, thanks to other patrons in the theater. This movie was brutal, but not as brutal as the 2013 remake. A lot of people were mad about how goofy the movie was, but that’s actually my favorite part! It was like a return to the original Evil Dead, taking it back to its roots. I loved the change in scenery, from a cabin in the middle of the woods to an apartment building on the verge of falling apart.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Variety)
The cold open was literally the best part, shoving people into the deep end and showing what’s to come. The story follows sisters Beth (Sullivan) and Ellie (Sutherland) as Ellie becomes possessed and begins to attack her sister and three children in their apartment. It was so suspenseful and insanely dramatic, to the point where it was laughable in the best way possible. Although, I’ll admit, the ending kind of lost me a little, I was willing to look past it thanks to the performances of the actors on screen. Overall, I say if you’re a fan of the first three Evil Dead movies starring Bruce Campbell, I highly recommend it. If you’re a fan of only the 2013 remake, I suggest going in with a bit of a warning that it is not as intense as the previous remake.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 (Released May 5th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: IMDb)
Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan
Director: James Gunn
The end of a beautiful trilogy. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 not only solidifies the fact that this is the best trilogy, but also Gunn’s reputation as the best director in the MCU. From the very beginning, Gunn perfectly captured the tone of the film, and didn’t let me go until the very end. The story revolves around Rocket (Bradley Cooper) suffering a deadly injury, where Peter (Pratt) and the other Guardians travel to save him.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Space.com)
Throughout this movie, I was so anxious that someone was going to die, but to my surprise, Gunn didn’t kill anyone off. I adore this film so much, and while Gunn has left, I will hold this story and the other two in my heart forever. If you would like to read more about the Guardians from me, please go to my previous post!
The Little Mermaid (Released May 26th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Wikipedia)
Starring: Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina
Director: Rob Marshall
Ah, the best Disney remake. Ariel has always been my favorite princess. I wasn’t born when the movie first came out, but coming from Hawai’i, I’m constantly surrounded by water, so how could I not have Ariel as my favorite princess? When I heard that they were remaking it for live action, I was excited. I was even more excited when they casted Bailey in the role.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Screencrush)
Although I am not African American myself, I am a POC, and it made me so happy to see representation. I can see the joy in other girls' faces when they see Bailey performing as Ariel, and it brings a tear to my eye. I never had anything like that growing up and seeing them makes me so happy. If you would like to read more about The Little Mermaid, please read my post below.
Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse (Released June 2nd)
Tumblr media
(Credit: IMDb)
Starring: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brain Tyler Henry, Lauren Vélez
Director(s): Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson
The sequel to the highly praised Spider Verse movie has finally been released this year, and it does not disappoint. First off, addressing something in the room, although it is a Part One to another movie, this is a full movie, and it does end on a cliffhanger, but it has an ending! This movie tries to pack so much into its runtime, that I’m surprised it even accomplished being a complete movie! It builds off of everything that happened in ‘Into the Spiderverse’, building off of characters like Gwen and Peter B. Parker, while also making us care about new characters, like Spider Punk and Spider-Man India.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Polygon)
This might be pretty contriversial, but I am not a fan of Spider-Man 2099, he’s too much of an asshole for me to care about him. The only saving grace is that he’s played by Oscar Isaac. Also, Jason Schwartzman as the villain was surprisingly amazing, and his origin story is hilarious. All in all, an excellent sequel that leaves me dying for more!
Elemental (Released June 16th)
Tumblr media
(Credit: Disney Movies)
Starring: Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi
Director: Peter Sohn
Pixar is still releasing bangers, with Elemental being added to the list. First off, the trailers did this movie a HUGE disservice! It sold it as some whimsical world where elements live together in harmony, but it is a retelling of Sohn’s life story told through the eyes of Ember (Lewis). It is emotional, and it hits me in a certain way, thanks to being raised with Asian parents.
Tumblr media
(Credit: Los Angeles Times)
Ember and Wade (Athie) are both adorable in their own way, and I believe that people just saw this as a Zootopia rip off and decided not to go. It’s not!! They’re two different stories!! Please go ahead and watch it if you haven’t!! You will not be disappointed. With Pixar movies just being shoved into Disney+, Elemental deserves to be on the big screen.
With that, I’m ending the first part here! Thank you for reading, be on the lookout for Part Two and my review of The Iron Claw, coming out next week!

Scream VI Trailer & Thoughts
Thirty-four years ago Jason (Friday the 13th franchise) took Manhattan… for about 15 minutes… now Ghostface is back for another installment of the Scream franchise and is taking on The Big Apple with a shotgun in hand!
The Scream VI trailer has dropped fairly quickly after the original teaser showed multiple Ghostfaces haunting some of the Scream 5 alum on a New York subway train on Halloween night. The train included a gaggle of costumed passengers dressed as several horror movie characters. The scene featured a familiar looking Ghostface and brought a familiar feeling of dread, cornering fear and a splash of IYKYK humor into a totally different setting for Scream.
The new trailer jumps into action with the returning characters of sister Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) begging for help in a New York corner store. A now slightly worn looking Ghostface, boldly follows them and dispatches a store patron with the familiar hunting knife we all know so well… Then seemingly takes out the store clerk with a shotgun while the Carpenter sisters hide. Add some suspense and cut to the studio cards.
The rest of the trailer highlights Sam as being our apparent antagonist again. More of Tara taking on the original Kirby role as the strong character we’d rather be following and rooting for. The return of Gale Weathers telling Ghostface they ain’t shit (again) and Ghostface creepishly telling Gale, “There has never been one like me…” and that is pretty much it… I mentioned Kirby right?
#JUSTICEFORKIRBY
That’s right! Hayden Panettiere is reprising the role of Kirby Reed, which in my opinion was the only saving grace and lore additive of the glossy, boring Scream 4 sequel. In the trailer she seems to be taking on the link to the past role of Sidney Prescott (don’t get me started on where Sidney is in this film). There isn’t much Kirby in the trailer which frightens me as I would love to see her and Tara (Jenna Ortega) teaming up throughout this film as the new Gale and Sidney.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I was not and am not a fan of the Sam character. Notice I said “character”. She seemed to fall flat in comparison to her sisters opening scene from Scream 5 that brought back that terrifying feeling of someone in the house. That scene brought my love for the franchise back and it slowly faded as the film went on. Though I do like the film. Sam’s backstory was a reach with ties to her father being Billy Loomis and her seeing his ghost (oof). Besides those oddities, I don’t know where the character of Sam went wrong. Whether it was writing, acting or directing I just never cared for her and yet it seems we’ll be following her journey against Ghostface again.
Apparent story elements include, a serial killer shrine with a lot of Ghostface paraphernalia, Tara gathering the troops to set a trap for the new Ghostface and some clips of New York. Remember that Scream is notorious for filming extra scenes and different endings to throw the cast and crew off of spoiling the films surprise reveal endings. This started back in 1997 when the ending of Scream 2 was leaked online at the beginning of the internet blog age. So, we as fans know, whatever they are showing us could be completely different from the final product.
youtube
Let’s cut into where this film might be going and where we might want to see it actually go.
Remember that Scream is meant to be a parody of horror films. It is supposed to be aware of horror movie rules and keep those rules in line with its own story. Each sequel has added new elements from its surrounding horror movie landscape. And don’t forget, Scream has a love affair with John Carpenter and Debra Hill’s Halloween.   With that in mind, here is the story the trailer is telling me.
There are probably multiple Ghostface killers. SURPRISE!! Away from Roman in Scream 3 there has always been multiple killers but something about this trailer and recent “requel” debacle in the Halloween franchise makes me think we are getting more than two. One, the obvious. The trailer shows different versions of the Ghostface mask terrorizing people. There are also scenes, mostly on a subway car, of multiple Ghostface masked maniacs together. Some scenes highlighting Sam’s “darkness” shows her in possession of the worn mask. With Sam’s link to Billy Loomis, his ghost influencing her and bringing to the edge of killing, and that link to current horror films, my guess is that Sam may be a killer or have a killer in her head. It’s cliché, it’s kind of lame but it’s where the trailer leads my thoughts. There is also that line “There has never been one like me…”. Well, our antagonist final girl has never turned out to be the killer so that would be different from what the franchise has offered. Remember that Billy Loomis was a killer in Scream, Billy’s mom was a killer in Scream 2 and to keep it all in the family, Sam, the daughter of Billy Loomis could be one of the killers in Scream VI.
But’s that doesn’t explain more than two killers. One of my favorite fun-facts of the Scream franchise is that Mathew Lillard, who played Stu Macher and the accomplice to Billy Loomis in the original Scream, has been on set for almost all of the Scream films and has been credited as an extra in the films. Yes, Stu has technically been in more Scream films than you thought. This has led to a fabulous fan theory and fanfiction that Stu never actually died in the first film and has been rotting away in prison since 1996. I love reading fan theories and ideas as it is often times better that the products we get from Hollywood. Another fanfic is that with people’s fascination with serial killers and true crimes these days, Stu Macher has a fan club that is slowly turning cult. Members take on the Ghostface persona to hunt in Stu’s name! This story makes a lot more sense for the Sidney Prescott storyline which has been put on hold at least for now (don’t you dare get me started on why that is).
Cult horror and viral killers are in season! Several horror films lately are exploring cults as slashers and TikTok relevence puts this or a similar idea in play for Scream.
What if those seeds were planted in this film? What if multiple killers are acting in the name of one mastermind? The big unmasking at the end gives us killers with random identity, a bunch of nobodies? What if Stu has rehabilitated and has somehow been released? How about Stu taking on a modified Cotton Weary role, claiming he has no involvement in the cult of Stu and just want’s peace? Give us a nice big cliffhanger into Scream 7 of Stu calling for a Sidney Prescott return. "Surprise Sidney!"
No, no. Farfetched and too creative for a franchise of parody. That would require breaking the mold a bit too much. I foresee the usual mix of the past coming to haunt some of our main characters and an emotional death of one of our female leads. My hope is that is  Sam, my fear is it will be Tara.
Because of the trailer and hype around the New York setting I’m wondering how much New York will actually play into the film. The opening scene of the trailer has the feel of a final chase scene with Ghostface resorting to a shotgun because they have tried everything else to kill the Carpenter sisters. My guess is the film will be set mostly in Woodsboro with the Carpenters and gang.. Gale Weathers resides in New York and is attacked mid-film in her sky rise apartment. This attack and some link to the past will bring the Woodsboro Mystery Machine to New York to join forces with Gale. Much like Sidney to Hollywood in Scream 3. When Scream 3 ditched Woodsboro for Hollywood it left a bad taste in the fans mouth (I personally dug it) Though Scream VI is not as bold as the Friday the 13th film title was with “Jason Takes Manhattan”, we the audience are being sold a Ghostface in Manhattan film. How fitting would it be if we get a laughable nod and the same small amount of runtime in New York as we did with Jason thirty-four years ago?

In The Heights (2021)
Lights up on Washington Heights... The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi, who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.
TL;DR: Do I recommend it? > Yes. Especially if you love musicals.
The long of it:
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures Director: Jon M. Chu Writer: Quiara Alegria Hudes (screenplay), Lin Manuel Miranda (musical) Music: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alex Lacamoire, Bill Sherman Cast: Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera Runtime: 143 minutes IMDB | RottenTomatoes | Official Site
Watched: on HBO Go, July 16th
Reaction: ± It's not as sung-through as Hamilton --although very few musicals are-- but it's bright and effusive and enjoyable. Each song is a spectacle and a vibrant expression of the community and likely echoes the experiences of many originally-immigrant neighborhoods. While the characters do have some problems communicating, it's not in a convoluted forced-for-the-plot way.
Memorable aspect of the movie: + The musical numbers. Gorgeous. A beautiful quodlibets that LMM does so well. <3 + "96k, go" "If i won the lottery, you'd never see me again." "Damn we only jokin'. Stay broke then." :))))

as someone fortunate enough to see a special screener of the In The Heights movie, and as someone that has absolutely ADORED that musical since it premiered on Broadway all those years ago...
listen They Did Good.
a lot of the fears that fans of a stage musical/play have when it comes to big screen adaptations are valid and thankfully some of them are put to rest when it came to this particular adaptation.
without spoiling anything, yes some songs did get cut and some lines did get changed. also there was a noticible abscence of a character from the stage that while it took me awhile to reconcile, in the end I suppose in service of the story they were trying to tell I get it. I remember hearing from critics that while the stage musical's storyline was weak, the music itself is where it shines... this time around, they kept a lot of the core and memorable songs and they tweaked the story in a more cohesive narrative.
visually the movie is stunning. the representation alone is beautiful and gorgeous that will probably move certain audience members to see themselves in this story, especially one where they're not depicted under negative stereotypes. the dance numbers are *chef's kiss* because, well, it's a Jon M Chu production. what else can you expect but gloriously shot dance numbers?
a lot of the "big name" actors in this play small minor roles (I see you, Lin. but also I see you too Mr. Marc Anthony), but the true wonderful performances were found in the new faces that portray our Usnavi, Vanessa, Benny, and Nina. Anthony Ramos is a star and I'm so glad his charm and musical abilities are on display here as our lead. Corey Hawkins slipped into his role as Benny with such ease and charisma that I wanted more! Melissa Barrera shined, more so in Vanessa's breathtaking moments of vulnerability. Leslie Grace's Nina encompassed everything I adored about that character: grace, spunk, hopefulness, love for her people, and that fear of letting them down. also a credit to Chu and Lin for having the wonderfully talented Olga Merediz reprise her original Broadway role of Abuela Claudia in the film version. she was spectacular in it!
and the music? listen, as someone that had gotten on the Hamilton hype train before, there was a reason I was a fan: it's because of Lin Manuel Miranda. and I adored that man and his music because I fell in love with In the Heights. ask anyone that knows me deeply and they'll agree that I'd willingly shove Hamilton into the fiery pits of hell just to save In the Heights.
unfortunately not all the songs from the stage made it onto the big screen, but the ones that did were given new life with wonderful performances that managed to still move me (to absolute tears, to delight, to every single goddamn emotion) like the stage show did once upon a time.
I definitely recommend seeing it when it comes out June 11 (in theaters if you're able to or on HBO Max or other means that I'm not legally allowed to endorse).

- when simone was seventeen her father hector, a local landscaper and talented gardner, had been a member of the order of odin -- using his takes from runs to save up for a better education for his children. however, on one particular run, he was pulled over by police who searched his truck and found the weapons and ammunition being smuggled strategically in landscaping supplies.  hector refused to pin the weapons on the gang, and was deported back to mexico shortly after his arrest.
-the loss of her father devastated her family, causing xiemna to fall into a deep depression that left her bedridden for months on end. simone stepped up and took on the role as main care-giver to her younger siblings, putting her dreams of going out of state for college onto the back burner.
-instead, after taking a four year break from school, simone attended the local community college to major in botany with a minor in agriculture, arranging her classes around her younger siblings schedules.
-while she was in college simone took to growing marijuana in her father’s old greenhouse. first, it was an experiment just to see if she could do it. then one plant became five, and then five became twenty, and then twenty became dabbling in making her own strains, and then became a small scale dealing operations on the community college campus
-after a couple of years, she and her business were noticed and simone recruited by the sons of ragnarok to join their drug operations  -- wanting the help of protection for her younger siblings and more income to help put them into college, simone agreed and became a prospect becoming a full fledged member a year later and has remained so for the last six years
PERSONALITY.
-high spirited, loves to laugh and have fun -- has epecially cut loose since her mother moved to arizona and her siblings have all entered college
-slow to anger and good at hiding it -- will extract calculated revenge when it is least expected
-very grounded and always thinking about the bigger picture and planning for the worst case scenario, not impulsive which makes her a great asset in high pressure situations
-very caring, but knows when business it business and not to get feelings thrown in
FUN FACTS.
-drives her father’s old 1972 harley model, has blacked out any O3 insignia that it held
-drink of choice is a paloma, but isn’t above drinking straight tequlia
-has multiple tattoos, mostly floral
-loves to go dancing; big fan of ABBA
-does yoga, loves crystals and vinatage styles
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
-simone is a brand new baby so she really is a free for all connections wise! it’s possible for her to have family in town (her siblings will remain NPCs), life long friends or enemies are possible. she did grow up around O3, so there may be bad blood in some relationships over her defecting to the sons. she is openly bisexual so all kinda of romantic connections are available as well! as always, feel free to hit me up if you wanna bounce ideas!
