Jatayu, King of Vultures.¹ cc: @savad.monk _ ¹ In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Jatayu (जटायु)—the king of vultures—sought to rescue the goddess Sita from the demon Ravana. In his quest and through the battle with Ravana, Jatayu was defeated and his wings clipped, causing him to fall to Earth, and was found by the deity Rama and his younger brother Lakshmana who performed the final rituals as Jayatu passed. Volcanic lightning.¹ cc: @tapiro — ¹ A force of nature that can be caused by volcanic ash close to the ground or by ice particles way up in the sky. As particles are ejected during an eruption, they are violently colliding with each other, creating an electrical charge through the friction of their collisions.  The particles (charged as positive or negative) separate from each other as they rise up from the volcano, riding the plume of smoke and debris high into the atmosphere. When the separation becomes too great for air to resist the flow of electricity, lightning rips through the tumult—adding to the chaos—to connect the particles.  Read this far?
