My favorite part about the first Trials of Apollo book was when they talked about the campers working out. I mean, YES!! I love working out, that was so fun to read about what the demigods do. You mean you drag the entire camp out of bed to go on a file mile run?? And do push ups and sit ups?? WOAH real camp life. Also I am biased because I am a distance runner so this was #relatable

Ok commercials, time to educate you all on Animation in the Academy as fast as I can because i’m seeing a lot of shit being thrown around....
Let me start off with a statement. An Animated film winning an Oscar doesn’t mean it’s the best film of the year, and no i’m not a Disney hater, stick with me until the end.
Keep in mind: The Academy either never watches the animated films that come out that year or watch the films that their kids drag them to. This has been said by many voters who have been interviewed throughout the years.  (Source: https://youtu.be/EXub-tZgjzE )
And note, kids love to go for Disney films because one, big brand name marketing, and second, Disney films = Disneyland.
Oscar Pattern:
Pixar,
If Pixar film doesn’t receive good reviews or doesn’t come out with a movie.
Disney
If Disney film does not come out with good review or film (hahah yeah right) then it goes to a random film
why random?
again the academy barely watches the animated films that come out that year, they have to fricken second guess it
That’s why you get a Disney fans vs. Other Fans every time during the Oscars because everyone starts throwing shade about who deserved what...
So really in the end who gets best film shouldn’t be based on the Oscar because the Oscars are not giving the films an equal chance of winning. The Oscar can not be used as a valid claim for best Animated film because even voting behind it isn’t fair
Really the best film is up to film critics in the media who actually watch the films, not the academy.
Now i’m just going to throw my opinion down here for this year but you all don’t have to read it.
So this year it was down to
Film: Attributes that standout
My life as a Zuichini: Foreign films about domestic child abuse, stop motion.
Red Turtles: Studio Ghibli film.... yeah pretty much
Kubo: Laika’s most highly reviewed film to date since Coraline. Stop motion and special effects, script
Moana: Disney film on Oceania/ Polynesian cultures, special effects, wonderful cast, soundtrack
Zootopia: Film about Racial tolerance, 3D animation and character effects, script.
This year was a close call for all these films but the films a lot of people were talking about are Moana, Kubo, and Zootopia (not that the other films aren’t good, but these three were the top runners)
I have in the past said that Disney was getting way too much love than it deserves and I still stand by that BUT, Disney still makes good, great films especially this year.
Zootopia truly is the best film this year.
MOANA: I’m more into Moana more because i’m a Theology/ Anthropology Minor with Animation Major being in the mix so it piqued my interest. I can’t say for myself that it accurately portray Polynesian culture, but several of my pacific islander friends have given it a thumbs WAY up. Lin-Manuel Miranda is a god, the music was gorgeous. Oh and not to mention was one of not one but two POC princess introduced this year so HELL YEAH!!!
KUBO: It was unfortunate for such an amazing story like Kubo to go up against a great film such as Zootopia. It think if Zootopia hadn’t come out this year Kubo would have been best film for sure. It was a Laika film that was five years in the making that took long hours of stop-motion and story exploration. It was the most they experimented on special effects. Even the clothing design had won an award and it the movie won the BAFTA and that’s saying something. Also the Japanese lore integrated in it was spectacular.
But Zootopia was the best film, why?
ZOOTOPIA: it’s movie of its time. Look around you!!! We’re living in an age where racism is still dividing America several years after the civil rights movement!!! don’t ignore it! you can’t!!! And that’s what this film is all about!! It’s about finding the problem, and at least coming to some sort of commonality between the different racial groups that live in America. AND NOT JUST THE U.S BUT THE WORLD!!! This is a message that to get along in peace, we must make peace among ourselves no matter how different the other is. If we can’t love one another, we can at least tolerate one another so that hate doesn’t win. It was a brave move from Disney to come out with this film. Disney teaches the future generation and they saw the opportunity because they knew they had to.
Animation was awesome like to think the hundreds of walk cycles for different animals must have been brutal and the simulations on the fur that were texturized and catered to different species holy shit. And the cast was great!!!
 anyway that’s my rant
