Richard at the Big Day Out Festival // Gold Coast Parklands, Australia // 23.01.2011 📷 alyce.m
Rammstein seemingly partied with Die Antwoord and Tool after this show and showed them their signature drink, Tequila mixed with Champagne - apparently widely known as the Rammstein drink, since the interviewer mentioned it to Richard. (source)

The kazoo - a useless insight.
For very important scientific reasons, this morning I woke up and found out that playing the kazoo isn’t actually as easy as it seems.
My first thought about it was “Aw, how talented” referring to you-know-who, but let’s delve into some details. I have collected my favorite curiosities down here for you:
You don’t just blow into the kazoo, neither you “hmmm” into it. You have to actually sing into it to make it work. Sounds like an effort to me.
The end you have to sing in is the flat one, not the pointy one.
Now, my favorite part. These are some of the syllables identified on Wikipedia to change notes on the kazoo: doo, too, who, rrrrr or brrr. “rrrrr or brrr”, understand?
Before Papa - but not as good as him - the kazoo was used by Frank Zappa, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and also Rammstein. Apparently, no pop singer had the same steel balls to use the kazoo in their songs. This makes it a very badass instrument, if you ask me.
In 2011, “At the Royal Albert Hall, 3.910 kazooists played Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries”. Just epic.
The kazoo is strictly related to the PARTY HORN - which is not an instrument - and the Eunuch flute (Mirlitone). And about the Eunuch flute, “the Creole composer, Edmond Dédé wrote Méphisto Masqué for grand orchestra and a fanfare of Mirlitone Instruments”. The devil is always around the corner here.
Papa played a kazoo with a square filter, instead of the more common round one. I hoped to find something interesting about it but honestly no, it is just that. The bravest of you will find a connection with Square Hammer, I just know it.
As a bonus, I’d like to remind you that Papa had a professional, tiny kazoo stand for his precious instrument.

I've been thinking about this for a long time, but some fans know that Richard has chronic back problems. Since when exactly? I suppose ageing has also put him on the wrong track. And note that there's a picture on his IG page where he's hooked up to an IV but supposedly it was vitamins or something.
Richard mentioned his back problems in this interview in 2011, when he mentioned doing yoga before a show, together with Schneider (we have photos from later years where Olli and Paul also joined the Rammstein yoga team).
In 2022 he evidently had issues on stage (occassionally needing the help of Flake or Paul to get up from the salut), but as we know now, he had injured his back on the Adieu videoshoot (aside from huring his leg on the Zeit shoot...bit injuryprone).
In 2023 that seemed a lot better, at one of the first concerts, Flake did give him a hand in getting up, but by and by Richard was getting more and more flexible, doing his wide guitar poses now and again and easily dropping to his knees (and getting up again) a few times.
Ofcourse he's still not as flexible as Paul, but Paul is very sporty so that's maybe not a fair comparison...
(sneaking in a 'guitarists having fun' clip, just because... 😇)

31 Days Idol Challenge - Oliver Riedel
Tumblr media
Day 5 - In Sofa
Okay, so this is probably a very predictable one, but in my defense, it is one of my favourite photos of Oliver and Richard. It's from Rammstein's 2011-2012 Europa Tour blog, and I love how Oliver is just chilling with his acoustic guitar.
That said, there are so many nice photos of Oliver in a sofa, so I added quite a bit of bonus material: 1) Paul and Oliver tasting Canadian food, by Frank Lothar Lange. 2) Screenshot from a VIVA feature with Rammstein from 2004. 3) Very odd photo of Richard and Oliver. 4) Screenshot from In Amerika. 5) Rammstein more or less in a sofa. 6) Behind the scenes of the Rosenrot music video, by Cristina from Rammstein.ro, I like how they are wearing the blue thermal clothing. 7) Behind the scenes of the Angst music video, by Jens Koch. 8) Old photo from backstage Gaswerk Hamburg, by Katja Wedekind.

Why does Ich Will hit so hard??? 😩 the song and the video and live version! It's just perfection!
Hii!
Ooh, with "Ich will" you definitely struck a nerv with me! It was one of my first MVs of Rammstein I saw when I got to know them and it holds a rather dear place in my heart. It was one of the reasons why I fell for Richard in the first place, because...well:

Personally for me, it's the best look the guys had in a MV in general. Especially Till's and Schneider's style are among my favourites ever:

The idea of some of them having scars/handicaps (Richard, Paul, Schneider and Till) while others are merely being used as means for a greater purpose (Olli and Flake) are quite fascinating to me. The lyrics, while being so easy to remember and sing along, still have that underlying feel of the singer binding the audience to himself, to steer it in a certain direction, to establish contact between the band and the listeners, which isn't something common for Rammstein and can feel rather intimate (like during live perfomances this year, when Till's voice sometime's broke during the line of "Wir wollen, dass ihr uns vertraut."). A lot of thoughts went into this song and the MV, plus the making of is also one of my favourites. Till expresses some thoughts in it concerning artists and the role of public attention. Maybe those are still relevant today, during an age where influencers can really wield an effect on others while not necessarily holding a talent or skill themselves (but maybe I'm just thinking in an old fashioned way):

My favourite live performances are definitely the one at the Velodrom in Berlin 2001 (I love this gig so much in general) and the one at the Madison Square Garden in 2011:

Plus, "Ich will" was the only song I recorded fully (here) when I attended the concert this year, I absolutely loved the light effects during it on this tour 🤍
All in all I think it's such a powerful song, can be used to steer the crown exceptionally well and holds such a distinct energy and I agree, for me it really is perfection 🖤
