Today is #WorldRadioDay! Tune in to our peacekeeping radio stations!
Many of our peacekeeping missions operate FM radio stations or produce radio content, including #CAR, #Haiti, #SouthSudan, #DRC, #Liberia, #CôtedIvoire and #Darfur.
Our mission in Darfur , #UNAMID, (bottom photo) marked World Radio Day by distributing solar powered wind-up radios to students at the Al Salam 26 Basic School for Girls.
Our mission in the DRC, #MONUSCO, (top photo) used the day to have Radio Okapi, the UN radio station, provide live updates from the Festival Amani. Amani means "peace" in Swahili and the festival brings together artists from the #DRC and elsewhere to promote a message of peace.
Radio is an important communications tool for UN Peacekeeping, and the United Nations community, to reach local populations, promote reconciliation, inclusive political dialogue and peace.
