thoughts on chasefield?

This is one of those ships that I can like, but I'm very specific about how it's portrayed.

I REALLY like fan works that explores Victoria and Max's dynamic after the storm. The storm is such a major event. It changed both their lives, as did getting kidnapped by Jefferson. She and Max share the same trauma, even if Victoria isn't aware of all of it. I really like the idea of Victoria and Max coming to an understanding after the storm and getting to know each other again as new people since they aren't the girls they started the week as.

However, the fics where Victoria relentlessly bullies Max and then they get together are a no for me. I don't like the bully/helpless victim trope, which I see portrayed a lot with them. Though, I do think that's funny, because, in my opinion, their dynamic in canon is more complicated than that.

Victoria IS a bully, and she DOES attempt to bully Max, but Max doesn't take anything lying down, and she frequently goes for the throat when dealing with Victoria. So there isn't as much power difference between them as many fics portray. Max does not put up with bullshit. She dumps paint cans on people instead. (And might take a photo afterward. And also not warn her someone is about to kidnap her because she's pissing her off.)

So I CAN like chasefield, but I'm pretty specific on how it's portrayed. Basically:

Chasefield when it's after the storm or Victoria has had growth or Max and Victoria are portrayed as equals: 👍 Chasefield when it's Victoria bullying Max: 👎

If I'm being honest it changes day to day. Today it's Max, tomorrow it's Rachel, next week it will be Chloe. I just love the three main girls so much (Max, Rachel, Chloe) that it's hard to choose who my favorite is.
