god, now I’m thinking about if the plant would’ve stayed and everyone tuned in to their lives. IF THEY SAW IT HAPPEN IN REAL TIME. everyone would be able to see eric’s heartbroken look before he walked out again.

and then now imagine Jack walking into the student union after his little break of grieving his dad and he’s met with people who he’s never met being like “I can’t believe what you did to eric” and Jack is like “I know I’m such a bad guy for not thinking about how eric feels about rachel” and then the people are like “who cares about rachel?? he loves you”

And long story short, jeric endgame with random people making Jack realize his feelings

The hotel man pesters Eric a few times during Cory and Topanga's wedding, trying to make sure that everything is going smoothly. He constantly refers to Eric as "Mr. Peterman", because Eric had to lie to get Cory and Topanga's wedding moved there. Because he raises suspicion, Eric urges him to go away.

Rachel Kimberly McGuire became Jack and Eric's new roommate at the start of season 6 after she broke up with her boyfriend. The boys began to compete for the right to date her, but later realized that their friendship might be too important. Rachel became good friends with Angela and Topanga and was one of the bridesmaids for Cory and Topanga's wedding.

I think having the character of Rachel on the show was really smart and an interesting way to show the audience who Jack and Eric are. It's terrible that the actress playing her looks back at the show and feels bad about how she was portrayed. And it's not good to just have a character portrayed as someone to just lust after but I actually don't see her character that way at all! 🤔 I think she was great! Smart, funny, cultured, really cared about her friends and their feelings, sensitive. You name it! But more than anything, I think her role on the show put Jack and Eric together more and more and showcased a whole new side of each of them! 😊 It's almost like they were being pushed together like some rom com. Usually it's the guy going after the girl, this time it was the girl forcing both guys to see they're soulmates!

coming on here again to say that while making theories about eric’s change in characterization is fine, pretending like he wasn’t just a victim of lazy writing and flanderization is frankly just dumb. him becoming more stupid as the series went on can’t be explained in universe because it wasn’t an intentional storyline or piece of subtext or anything, it was literally just them deciding eric was the comic relief character and then never giving him a shred of depth ever again. stop trying to find a convoluted answer to a simple question we already know the answer to.

My brain: Eric Matthews watched his best and closest friend Jack get chosen over him by his other good friend Rachel, felt he needed to leave his apartment and basically become homeless (in the middle of college, mind you) because he couldn’t handle the heartbreak of that but also loved them too much to intrude on their happiness, had his new little brother arrive too early and almost die after a good few scary days in the hospital (that he didn’t properly process to take care of/protect Tommy), and had to give up Tommy, the kid he pretty much would have adopted on the spot if he was a bit older, despite it literally feeling like having a piece of himself ripped away from him, all in the span of maybe a few weeks’ time. 

Me:
