Eyes: Dark brown with medium length eyelashes.
Hair: Ayame normally keeps her hair loose and mid chest length, although occasionally she’ll have it up in a half up half down style with some of her bangs falling out of the half ponytail. It’s naturally a dark brown and slightly wavy, although some mornings she does straighten it.
Makeup: She normally wears a relatively light layer of foundation, a neutral eyeshadow color just on her eyelids and a very small amount of eyeliner and mascara. As for lips, normally a clear gloss or a slightly berry toned red lipgloss if she’s wanting to be a bit more drastic. Most of the time, she wears a bit of blush on the apples of her cheeks but not too terribly heavy.
Scars: Due to a lot of her more outdoorsy hobbies as a kid (namely exploring in the forest), her arms have a few scars and her legs do as well, but they’re all fairly faded and small scars, namely from trees or bushes scratching her deep enough that it stuck for years.
Tattoos: None
Piercings: Ayame has her ears pierced twice on each lobe although has let the second hole close up.
Casual attire: Ayame will normally wear a turtleneck or button up shirt tucked into a high waisted pair of slacks with a wide leg fit or an ankle length pleated skirt, usually made of linen or wool. Ayame is always wearing a simple brown leather belt with her skirts or pants, as it looks nice with how her shirt is tucked in. She wears a cardigan with it, whether made out of a more sheer material (such as voile) or wool, it’s always floor or ankle length. As for shoes, Ayame normally wears a pair of brown leather clogs or chunky heeled loafers that have a 2 inch heel. (Outfit inspo: 1 2 3 4)
Formal attire: Ayame normally wears a sleeveless blue sheath dress that goes to her knees and has a round neckline. She pairs it with a blazer with shoulder pads and large gold buttons to close it. Normally, she wears a somewhat chunky golden necklace that has a pearl hanging from the chain and small dangling pearl earrings. Ayame wears slightly lower shoes with this outfit, specifically slingback kitten heels in a black leather.
Sleepwear: Ayame practically always wears a silk pajama set that consists of a long sleeve button up top and pajama pants that both have floral patterns on them and are a pale blue. She also wears a pair of house slippers always.
Swimwear: She doesn’t swim super often but when she does, she wears a blue one piece that has a floral print and a sweetheart neckline. She normally pairs this with a light brown coverup top that resembles a shawl.
Accessories: Ayame pretty much always is wearing earrings although not normally anything super long, just small hoops or studs. She normally doesn't wear a lot of jewelry outside of that, although does have a few golden herringbone bracelets for special occasions or when she's not wearing long sleeves. As for other accessories, she sometimes will carry a dark brown leather cross-body purse but normally prefers to keep her outfits relatively simple.
Personality: Ayame is a very outgoing person and is really easy to talk to, as well as really good at striking up conversations with pretty much anyone. She’s a very nurturing person, especially to her family and friends, to the point where she puts others needs in front of her own maybe a bit too much. She’s a relatively calm and laid back person, not getting outwardly upset easily (although she’s very sensitive so a lot of the time if something upsets her, she doesn’t verbalize it as much in order to not hurt someone else) and is pretty levelheaded. However she can be impulsive with certain things, such as relationships, as in the past she’s tended to go from marriage to marriage and not really ever have time where she’s not with someone.
Ayame’s biggest flaw is how much she overworks herself, to the point where her entire day has to be scheduled out, including downtime, and tends to have a bit of a problem prioritizing things outside of work, like family. She’s a perfectionist and very stubborn, making a pretty frustrating combination of her redoing her work until it suits her standards. Ayame also tends to be relatively nosy and curious, which given her current relationship situation has either saved her from certain death or made the amount that she teases her boyfriend worse.
In relationships, she’s very affectionate but not in public, in private though, she’s very much the type of partner to give anyone she loves all the affection they desire. She’s not easily scared by a lot and tends to deal with fear by using humor.
Likes: Ayame is very much a person that is outdoorsy, loving spending time in the back garden of the house and just doing gardening in general. She loves the feel of the dirt beneath her fingers and just getting to do something to connect with nature like she did as a kid. Her favorite flowers are daisies and chrysanthemums, although she loves the smell of lilies and roses as well. Even though they’re pretty invasive, Ayame loves to see kudzu and how it blankets anything around it. She love photographing structures that have been overtaken by kudzu the most, although photography is one of her main hobbies and she loves seeing what others find important enough to immortalize on film. Some of her other favorite subjects are people and some of the abandoned buildings that she ends up exploring with Eleanore.
Her favorite part of her job is either the feeling of finding new and obscure artists or the one hour long special she does every Saturday and Sunday updating listeners on anything the two of them have found and gathering tips for future investigations. She loves planning social events and going to them, spending time with people in general is something Ayame really enjoys. As for how she spends time with her family, she loves cooking with them (even if she’s not the best at it, spending the time together means a lot to her), going on little drives with them, and doing crafts with them, especially helping Tsubaki build models.
Ayame collects salt and pepper shakers, mainly just the animal ones as she finds them cute, but will sometimes just buy ones that catch her eye. Speaking of food, she really enjoys seafood, especially salmon, and bannock bread, the latter of which remind her of home. Ayame absolutely adores getting engrossed in a mystery and the rewarding feeling of finally cracking the code behind it.
Dislikes: Ayame hates having her routine disrupted or having a day where she does nothing, as she gets slightly antsy if she has nothing planned for the day. She doesn’t particularly like really crowded public spaces, more-so enjoying the feeling of small parties and social gatherings, as it gives her a chance to talk to everyone that she wants to talk to, instead of a big crowd. She’s not a super big fan of public affection, the most she tends to do is holding hands and occasionally a cheek kiss, but just prefers to save her affections for at home. Ayame doesn’t really enjoy closed spaces, not that it’s necessarily a phobia, but just prefers being outside and in bigger areas in general.
As well, she hates having to drive in non ideal conditions like snow and rain, especially at night, and if she has to drive in those conditions, she goes against her normal tendencies to never arrive late and takes her time on the roads a lot more than normal. She doesn’t really understand the appeal of sports or card games although will play the latter if someone wants her to. Ayame will fully refuse to do mazes though, it’s just not something she gains any enjoyment from. She hates the sound of bells because they’re a bit too high pitched for her ears and the sound of drums are a bit too loud on their own. In terms of clothing, Ayame hates fitted clothing, much preferring the comfort of slightly loose fitted items, because of how lanky she is, she prefers how it looks. She also can’t stand hats, as it’s already a struggle to get her hair to lay smooth and hats tend to cover that work up and also make things really frustrating when she takes it off.
Ayame cannot stand the kinds of perfume and cologne that have really strong scents and are overbearing (she normally wears a very light floral perfume), and being around people that wear them tends to make her very nauseous. She doesn’t have a phobia of dogs, simply prefers cats because they’re a bit more cuddly. In terms of art, she really can’t stand abstract art, preferring when things clearly express a scene and emotion. Ayame’s biggest dislike is easily being alone romantically, as she tends to very much rush into new relationships to fill the void that a previous partner left.
Phobias: Being alone, missing out on opportunities with people, snakes
Habits: Ayame tends to snap her fingers a lot if she’s thinking, and tends to hum or sing a lot if she’s along or on the way home from work. She also tends to roll her wrists in a clockwise and counterclockwise if they feel tight. A lot of the time she’ll talk to herself as that’s what she’s used to for her job.
Favorite color: Light blue, specifically something like #AECBEF
Favorite movie: Either Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or An Affair To Remember, she really enjoys romantic musicals
Backstory: Her parents moved from Japan to Canada in the late 1950s, after they had been married for a couple years, and she was born in 1963. When she was young, Ayame was involved in a million hobbies and after school activities simply because she didn’t really know what she was interested in, and wanted to try a wide variety of stuff in order to find out what she wanted to do for her career. By the time that she had gotten into high school, she had settled into a slightly more relaxed schedule, and was interning at her local radio station.
Her entire college experience was tied between working a part time job, interning, and focusing hard on getting the best grades in school as she possibly could. In her sophomore year of college, her parents adopted her younger brother and she tried to also cram spending more time at home into her already packed schedule. When she did end up graduating college with a BA in communications, Ayame wanted to settle down and get married practically right away, as honestly she hadn’t had any time for dating while in college. She met the perfect man, someone a bit older than her and a lawyer, at a local bar and they hit it off right away. The two of them married a year later in 1986 and discussed plans for adoption right away, saving up for a couple years to make sure they had enough for the fees. They ended up adopting from one of their friends that was one of Ayame’s underclassmen and didn’t want the baby.
The three of them lived in bliss until her husband died in a car accident. Unfortunately for Ayame, she was suspected pretty badly by the police, but was ultimately declared innocent, as the car accident was just that, an accident. It didn’t change a lot of the town’s perceptions of her, and eventually it got bad enough that she worried for her daughter’s safety so moved to her parents’ birth town of Morioh. Ayame is very much a person that tends to jump right into relationships, and her next husband was a rebound from the extreme loneliness that she felt before moving. She married him in late 1992, just months after moving and meeting him, and she felt the hole in her heart slowly begin to mend.
Her husband worked for the NPA, although had interest in some of the local murders and had been investigating them on the side of his job. Ayame meanwhile, had been relatively involved in her daughter’s school life and had balanced out working as a radio host and taking care of her now six year old daughter about as much as she could. When Tsubaki had her entrance ceremony, Ayame met Shinobu, another mom with a kid entering the same school, and they hit it off almost instantly. They ended up exchanging phone numbers and stayed in contact via calling and sending letters to each other and getting to be closer and closer friends over time.
Years passed and Ayame’s marriage grew happier and happier, as she had worked to schedule more time in between work and her newfound hobby of investigating some of the oddities in Morioh in order to spend time with her family. But on a winter day in 1997, her second husband was murdered, although she didn’t really have any proof for that other than a hunch, as he wasn’t the type to leave her. She had already been through the worst of her mourning with her first husband, but not having a solid idea of what had happened made it worse somehow, so Ayame pretty much poured all her time into work, Tsubaki, and the blossoming friendships with Eleanore and Shinobu. As the year went on, Shinobu and Ayame got closer until they were practically dating, the only thing holding them back from fully doing so being her marriage to Kosaku.
Family: Tsubaki, her daughter is pretty much the most important person in Ayame’s life, as they get along really well and she was a big help in keeping Ayame from falling into a worse depression after her first husband died. Tsubaki is a relatively normal ten year old, although she’s very friendly with strangers and has a passion for building model cars and baking. They’re very very close and Ayame tries her very best to be the best mom that she can be for Tsubaki.
As for her parents, they cut contact with her in 1991, right after the accident, but around 1997, Ayame tried to reconnect the relationship. It’s been a bit rocky, but things are slowly getting back to as close as the three of them were when Ayame was young. Despite the time where the three of them didn’t talk, Ayame and her brother never really cut contact and he’s one of her closest confidantes despite them living countries away.
Friends: Her closest friend has to be Eleanore (Rosa’s oc), as they run a little investigation together into the stranger things going on in Morioh, and Ayame very much sees Eleanore as a little sister figure due to their age gap. Ayame is also relatively close to her fellow radio hosts and some of the teachers at school, as she’s really involved in her daughter’s life.
Relationship status: Dating Shinobu, which somehow came with the side effect of dating Kosaku as well
Pet(s): Doesn’t have time for any, but is a cat person and would love to adopt an elderly cat if given the opportunity
Occupation: Radio host for the local station in Morioh
Languages: Japanese and English
Stand name: Butterfly Love (after the Jim Reeves song)
Stand abilities/other info about it: Butterfly Love’s power isn’t particularly combat suited, but it can extract the pollen from plants and store it, only able to release in a pollen cloud with a very small radius of around 2 feet around Ayame.
Other: Her voice is similar to Akina Nakamori’s! Ayame normally has her nails painted with a nude or light pink but doesn’t do anything other than a simple one color polish.
