The growth of a wheat plant is measured in stages. Understanding the stages of growth is important to help farmers optimize the yield. Stress and drought affect plants differently during each stage of growth. There are many systems used to measure the stages of growth, including Fekes, Zadoks and Haun scales, which are all rather complicated, but there are six basic stages of growth for a wheat plant.

Seedling Stage

The first stage of growth in wheat is called the seedling stage. This stage occurs after germination and begins when the first true leaves emerge from the soil, and ends when the first tiller emerges. During the seedling stage the second leaves are just emerging and beginning to unroll, and there are as many as six seminal roots.

Tillering Stage

Tillers are new shoots that are sent up from the root of the plant. Each tiller can grow its own stalk and seed head, so the number of tillers will determine the potential yield of the plant. Tillering can occur either before or after the winter dormancy stage in winter wheat, and a plant can have as many as six tillers. Tillers can be distinguished from true leaves by a sheath at the base of the growth called a prophyll.

The jointing stage starts when the stalk forms its second node, a hard joint from which the plant telescopes upwards. During the jointing stage, the smaller, less-formed tillers often die off. Booting Stage

During the booting stage, the head of the wheat develops and becomes visible beneath the sheath on the stalk. The booting stage ends when the tips of the head, called awns, begin to emerge.

Heading and Flowering Stage

The heading and flowering stage begins when the awns emerge from the sheath. When the awns have emerged the flowering begins and pollination and fertilization occurs. It is important again during the flowering stage that all the plants in a field flower at the same time. Right after fertilization, the embryo and endosperm begin to form.

Maturity Stage

The maturity stage immediately follows fertilization, and includes several short stages. The milk stage is the first part of maturing, and this is when the kernel begins forming. The kernel is fully formed during the dough stage, and the plant takes nutrients from the stalk and leaves and transfers them to the kernel. The kernel is still very moist at the end of the dough stage and contains about 30 percent water. During the ripening stage the kernel loses the rest of its moisture and is ready to be harvested.

The first thing I did Monday morning, which was a tough one given I didn’t get to bed until around 01.30, was to pot up all the cuttings from Crete. I’m not optimistic that much will survive; some of these were cut a week ago.

The garden had burst into flower while I was in Italy and Greece! The peonies were stealing the show.

Matthiola fruticulosa was in full bloom and has an amazing fragrance. 

The Prunus mahaleb were stunning too.

Thursday there was more drama on the domaine, a culmination of things that all came to a head. Ronie and Julietta will not be returning to the domaine.

Saturday and Sunday I spent in my garden doing the first mow of the season, weeding the veg area and putting up new fencing.

Fałszywe urządzenia “elektrodiagnostyczne”.

Urządzenia opisane w tym artykule służą do diagnozowania nieistniejących problemów zdrowotnych, doboru niewłaściwych metod leczenia i oszukiwania firm ubezpieczeniowych. Lekarze, którzy je stosują, są złudni i/lub nieuczciwi. Urządzenia te powinny zostać skonfiskowane, a korzystający z nich lekarze powinni być postawieni przed sądem. Jeśli natrafisz na urządzenie tego typu, zgłoś ten fakt prokuratorowi generalnemu, odpowiedniej komisji licencyjnej, FDA, FTC, FBI, Better Business Bureau oraz jakiejkolwiek firmie ubezpieczeniowej, wobec której lekarz ma roszczenia obejmujące korzystanie z takiego urządzenia.

Tysiące lekarzy stosuje „elektrodiagnostyczne” urządzenia, które pomagają im wybrać zalecaną metodę leczenia. Wielu z nich uważa, że można określić przyczynę jakiejkolwiek choroby poprzez wykrycie “energetycznej nierównowagi” powodującej dany problem. Niektórzy twierdzą również, że urządzenia te mogą wykryć, czy ktoś jest uczulony lub wrażliwy na dany pokarm, cierpi na niedobór witamin lub ma uszkodzone zęby. Jeszcze inni wierzą, że mogą przy użyciu takich urządzeń stwierdzić brak obecności chorób takich jak rak czy AIDS. Jedna z meksykańskich poradni zasugerowała nawet, że ​​jej urządzenie może być stosowane do leczenia raka [1]. Kilka lat później jeden z jego studentów (inny niemiecki lekarz o imieniu Helmut Schimmel) uprościł ten system diagnostyczny, redukując go z około 850 do 60 punktów, wprowadzając drobne modyfikacje sprzętowe i pomagając stworzyć pierwszy model Vegatest. Kolejnymi modelami były: Accupath 1000, AcuGraph, Asyra, Avatar, BICOM, Bio-Tron, Biomeridian, BioScan, Computron, CSA 2001, DBE204, Diacom, DiagnoMètre, Eclosion, e-Lybra 8, ELAST, Interro, Interactive Query System (IQS), I-Tronic, Kindling, LISTEN System, MORA, Matrix Physique System, Meridian Energy Analysis Device (MEAD, MSAS, Oberon, Omega Acubase, Omega Vision, Orion System, Phazx, Prognos, Prophyle, Punctos III, SpectraVision, Syncrometer, Vantage, Victor-Vitalpunkt Diagnose, Vistron, Vitel 618 i ZYTO.

Zdaniem twórców, urządzenia te mierzą zakłócenia w przepływie “elektromagnetycznej energii” organizmu wzdłuż “akupunkturowych punktów szczytowych” [3]. Mówi się, że niektóre z nich mierzą “wibracje”, “rezonans” lub “naprężenia” związane z tkankami i/lub narządami organizmu. Właściwie, większość tych urządzeń to niewiele więcej niż wyszukane galwanometry mierzące oporność elektryczną skóry pacjenta przy kontakcie z sondą. Urządzenie emituje mały, bezpośredni prąd elektryczny, który przepływa przez przewód z urządzenia do mosiężnego cylindra przykrytego wilgotną gazą, którą pacjent trzyma w jednej dłoni. Drugi przewód jest podłączony z urządzenia do sondy, którą operator przykłada do “akupunkturowych punktów” na drugiej ręce lub stopie pacjenta. W ten sposób zamyka się obwód niskiego napięcia i urządzenie rejestruje przepływ prądu. Informacja jest następnie przekazywana do urządzenia pomiarowego lub ekranu komputera, który dostarcza liczbowy odczyt w skali od 0 do 100. Według teorii Volla, odczyty od 45 do 55 są normalne (“zrównoważone”); odczyty powyżej 55 wskazują stan zapalny narządu “związanego” z testowanym “punktem szczytowym”; odczyty poniżej 45 sugerują “stagnację i degenerację narządu”. Jednakże, jeśli wilgotność skóry pozostaje stała – jak zwykle ma to miejsce – jedyną rzeczą, która wpływa na wartość odczytu, jest to, jak mocno sonda jest dociskana do skóry pacjenta. Niektóre urządzenia posiadają wszystkie przewody podpięte pod pacjenta lub generują odpowiedzi losowo, tak, aby lekarz nie mógł wpływać na wyniki. Poniższa tabela przedstawia jedną z wersji skali Volla.

We wcześniejszych urządzeniach ta wartość liczbowa była wskazywana przez igłę, która przesuwała się nad czujnikiem tarczowym. Późniejsze wersje, takie jak Interro na zdjęciu poniżej, wydają dźwięki i zapewniają odczyt na ekranie komputera. Wybrany zabieg zależy od zakresu praktyki lekarza i może obejmować akupunkturę, wskazania dietetyczne i/lub suplementy witaminowe, jak również homeopatyczne środki lecznicze.

Urządzenie Interro. Jedną sondę trzyma w dłoni pacjent. Kiedy druga sonda jest przykładana do przeciwnej ręki lub stopy pacjenta, po prawej stronie ekranu komputera widać wzrost słupka, któremu towarzyszy emisja dźwięku. Taki odczyt ma w założeniu określać stan różnych narządów organizmu. W 1986r., badając rynek homeopatyczny dla czasopisma Consumer Reports, poddałem się testom z wykorzystaniem tego urządzenia w Nevada Clinic w Las Vegas. Kiedy lekarz opuścił salę kontrolną, zacząłem majstrować przy urządzeniu i stwierdziłem, że ruch słupka i poziom emitowanego dźwięku zależały wyłącznie od tego, jak mocno sonda była dociskana do mojej skóry [4]. Po „zdiagnozowaniu” domniemanych problemów szklane ampułki zawierające roztwory homeopatyczne można umieścić w metalowych komórkach, a testy są powtarzanie w celu określenia ich odpowiedniości do korekty domniemanych “zaburzeń równowagi”.

Fantazyjne stwierdzenia

Niektórzy sprzedawcy EAV dokonują bezpośrednich stwierdzeń medycznych – mówią o korygowaniu “zaburzeń równowagi”, zaś inni udają, że urządzenie jest używane do “testowania naprężeń”. Dodatkowo:

W teorii, niektóre urządzenia mają być w stanie pomóc lekarzowi w realizacji oraz doborze zalecanych środków zaradczych. E-Lybra 8, na przykład, zapewnia “ponad 285 tysięcy środków leczniczych w zasięgu ręki” i “stosowanie jednego lub wielu z nich w dowolnej mocy, w łatwy i szybki sposób”. [5]

Niektóre urządzenia mają potrafić przywracać zdrowie poprzez emitowanie sygnałów wyrównujących „zaburzenia równowagi”. Przykładowo: w zgłoszeniu patentowym z 1997 r. na urządzenie LISTEN stwierdzono następującą rzecz: “Określając opór elektryczny w różnych miejscach ciała pacjenta, można ustalić, które narządy są dotknięte chorobą. Ponadto pacjent może być leczony przez zapewnienie sygnału elektrycznego o częstotliwości radiowej, który przywraca przewodnictwo elektryczne w określonych punktach do normalnego poziomu” [6].

Niektórzy lekarze twierdzą, że używają swoich narzędzi jako pomocy diagnostycznej aniżeli jedynego wyznacznika rozpoznania medycznego. Sądzę jednak, że mówią tak, aby utrudnić komisjom licencyjnym wymierzenie im kary dyscyplinarnej za stosowanie niestandardowych praktyk.

Capital University of Integrated Medicine, niekwalifikowana podyplomowa szkoła wyższa zamknięta w 2005r., oferowała trzydniowe szkolenie z zakresu „analizy oporności elektrodermalnej”. Celem kursu było dostarczenie “oceny zdrowia i leczenie zaburzeń równowagi układu odpornościowego poprzez właściwości opornościowe specyficznych punktów szczytowych akupunktury na ciele” oraz jak “zlokalizować systemowe przyczyny słabości układu odpornościowego i zapewnić stymulację niwelującą taką słabość”.

Firma Phazx Systems, która przerwała działalność po otrzymaniu listu ostrzegawczego od FDA, mówiła potencjalnym nabywcom urządzeń: “Będziesz mógł stworzyć dla siebie nowe źródło zarobku, ponieważ pacjenci będą chętnie płacić za usługi, jak również kupować od ciebie bezpośrednio witaminy i suplementy. Można nieraz rozliczać i otrzymywać zwrot kosztów u firm ubezpieczeniowych lub planów zdrowotnych za badania podlegające pod tzw. biofeedback, używając właściwych kodów CPT”.

Badania naukowe

W badaniu z podwójnie ślepą próbą brytyjscy naukowcy porównali swoje wyniki otrzymane z pomocą urządzenia Vegatest do konwencjonalnych testów przeprowadzonych na 30 ochotnikach, z których u połowy stwierdzono uprzednio pozytywną reakcję alergiczną na kurz dendera lub roztocza kurzu domowego. Każdy uczestnik testował 6 pozycji każdego z 3 operatorów podczas 3 oddzielnych zabiegów, co dało łącznie 54 testy na uczestnika. Naukowcy stwierdzili, że wyniki bazujące na urządzeniu Vegatest nie odpowiadają wynikom konwencjonalnej próby i dlatego nie powinny być stosowane do diagnozowania tych alergii. Autorzy oszacowali że w Wielkiej Brytanii wykorzystywano w tamtym czasie ponad 500 urządzeń EDS w celu oceny wrażliwości na potencjalne alergeny [7].

Australijskie Kolegium ds. Alergii uznało, że “Vegatesting jest techniką diagnozowania pozbawioną podstaw naukowych”. [8] W 1997r. pewien inżynier biomedyczny stwierdził, że umieszczenie ampułek w komórce urządzenia Vegatest I nie miało wpływu na jego odczyty [9]. Nie jest to szczególnie zaskakujące, zważywszy iż szkło nie przewodzi prądu.

W 2002 r. włoscy naukowcy poinformowali o wyniku badania z podwójnie ślepą próbą, w którym sprawdzono, czy alergeny mogą powodować mierzalne wahania aktywności elektromagnetycznej w konkretnych miejscach akupunkturowych. W badaniu wzięły udział 72 osoby z astmą lub katarem siennym i 28 zdrowych ochotników, którzy byli dwukrotnie testowani z wykorzystaniem losowo generowanch sekwencji homeopatycznych rozcieńczeń histaminy, immunoglobuliny, alergenów i soli fizjologicznej (słonej wody) w zamkniętych fiolkach. Urządzeniem użytym w badaniu DBE204. Naukowcy nie stwierdzili żadnego związku między zmianami przewodnictwa skóry a rodzajem substancji zawartej w fiolce, dodając, że jednostkowe różnice między pierwszym a drugim testem występowały u większości osób. Wyniki te wskazują, że urządzenie nie określiło wiarygodnie tego, kto był uczulony, a kto nie był [10].

Regulacje rządowe

FDA klasyfikuje “urządzenia wykorzystujące pomiary oporności do diagnozowania i leczenia różnych chorób” jako urządzenia klasy III, tj. takie, które wymagają zatwierdzenia przez FDA przed wprowadzeniem produktu do obrotu. W 1986r. urzędnik FDA poinformował mnie, że podlegające pod FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health uznało, iż urządzenia diagnostyczne Dermatron oraz Accupath 1000 stanowią “znaczące ryzyko” [11]. Żadne takie urządzenie nie może być legalnie wprowadzane do obrotu w Stanach Zjednoczonych w celach diagnostycznych lub leczniczych. Kilka firm uzyskało zezwolenie 510(k) (jednak nie zatwierdzenie) mówiąc FDA, że ich urządzenia będą wykorzystywane do celów biofeedbackowych lub do pomiaru oporu skóry, co jednak nie uprawnia ich do sprzedaży urządzeń do innych zastosowań.

Urządzenia EAV nie są urządzeniami biofeedbackowymi. Biofeedback jest techniką relaksacyjną wykorzystującą urządzenie elektroniczne, które w sposób ciągły sygnalizuje tętno, napięcie mięśniowe lub inne funkcje ciała przez sygnał tonowy bądź wizualny. W biofeedbacku sygnał pochodzi i jest uzależniony od pacjenta. W EAV na sygnał wpływa to, jak mocno operator urządzenia dociska sondę do skóry pacjenta. (Ciśnienie ułatwia przepływ prądu elektrycznego między urządzeniem a skórą pacjenta). Obecnie nieistniejąca Międzynarodowa Akademia Farmaceutyczna ds. Bioenergetyki nakłaniała nabywców urządzeń do dochodzenia zwrotów kosztów u firm ubezpieczeniowych za pomocą właściwych kodów biofeedbackowych [12]. Uważam jednak, że taka czynność może podlegać odpowiedzialności karnej z tytułu oszustwa ubezpieczeniowego.

FDA zakazała importu urządzeń typu EAV do Stanów Zjednoczonych i ostrzegła lub wszczęła postępowania przeciwko kilku marketingowcom [13]. Zagraniczne i państwowe agencje regulacyjne również podjęły pewne działania w tym zakresie [13]. Nie podjęto jednak systematycznego wysiłku, by wycofać takie urządzenia z rynku i zaniedbanie FDA w tym kontekście jest godne pogardy. W efekcie te fałszywe przyrządy są nadal wykorzystywane przez wielu kręgarzy, zwolenników medycyny naturalnej, akupunkturystów, dentystów, lekarzy “holistycznych”, lekarzy weterynarii, alternatywnych “dietetyków” i wiele innych nielicencjonowanych osób. Najczęstszym zastosowaniem tych urządzeń jest przepisywanie produktów homeopatycznych. Są one również wykorzystywane do definiowania “alergii”, wykrywania “niedoborów składników odżywczych”, “diagnozowania „pasożytów” i „słabości” narządów oraz lokalizowania domniemanych problemów w zębach, które zawierają amalgamatowe (“srebrne”) plomby.

Znaczące ryzyko

Urządzenia typu EAV stanowią poważne zagrożenie. Przekazywanie fałszywych lub wprowadzających w błąd informacji zdrowotnych może powodować emocjonalną krzywdę, fałszywe poczucie bezpieczeństwa lub nierealne przekonanie, które następnie może prowadzić do podjęcia nierozsądnych decyzji. W ciągu ostatnich dziesięciu lat ponad 200 osób opowiedziało mi o swoich doświadczeniach z lekarzami praktykującymi EAV. W większości przypadków oni sami lub ktoś, kogo znali, wydali na próżno setki (a nawet tysiące) dolarów na test i zalecane leczenie. W niektórych przypadkach badana osoba stawała się bardzo przestraszona, poddając się kosztownym badaniom medycznym, które wykazały, że zdiagnozowane warunki nie były obecne.

Niepotrzebne procedury kontrolne mogą stanowić poważny problem. Znam wielu pacjentów, którym wyrwano zdrowe zęby po błędnej diagnozie urządzenia EAV. W innym przypadku mężczyzna, który skonsultował się z lekarzem w sprawie krwawienia z odbytnicy i skurczów jamy brzusznej, został zbadany samym Dermatronem i powiedziano mu, że okrężnicy nic nie dolega. Niestety, jak się okazało, ów mężczyzna miał raka jelita grubego – fakt, który został wykryty dopiero siedem miesięcy później w ramach konsultacji z innym lekarzem. Dwa inne znane mi przypadki obejmują pacjentów z zaawansowanym stadium nowotworu, którym powiedziano, że nie mają raka. Jednemu z nich sprzedano 33 produkty w celu pozbycia się “pasożytów” i innych nieistniejących problemów zdrowotnych. Jednej z ofiar tego oszustwa, która próbowała uzyskać zwrot pieniędzy, powiedziano, że produkty zostały specjalnie zmodyfikowane dla niej i nikt inny nie może z nich�� korzystać.

Najdziwniejszy raport, jaki otrzymałem, pochodził od rodzica, który po przeczytaniu wcześniejszej wersji tego artykułu, zadzwonił do mnie, aby opisać, jak jego pięcioletnia córka została zbadana przez nielicencjonowanego lekarza. Kiedy dziecko stało się niespokojne, badanie kontynuowano z udziałem ręki rodzica, który trzymał dziecko. Rodzic zauważył również, że lekarz zdawał się manipulować wynikami (szukając odczytu “50” na urządzeniu) przez zwilżanie lub wysuszanie palca dziecka podczas testu, tak, aby móc następnie dobrać odpowiedni środek leczniczy.

Inne odmiany urządzenia

Wiele innych urządzeń “bioenergetycznych” zostało uznane za przydatne w diagnozowaniu i/lub leczeniu problemów zdrowotnych. Nie jestem pewien, czy powinny być uznane za urządzenia typu EAV lub sklasyfikowane w inny sposób. Wspólnym mianownikiem jest to, że ich działanie sprowadza się do wykrywania i/lub manipulowania “wibracjami” i/lub układem “energii” organizmu, które nie mają naukowych podstaw. Urządzenia te obejmują: Quantum Medical Consciousness Interface (QMCI) System (nazywany czasem EPFX lub SCIO), Orion Bioscan, Electro Interestitial Scanner (EIS) oraz różnego rodzaje generatory częstotliwości Rife.

Wnioski

Urządzenia opisane w tym artykule służą do diagnozowania nieistniejących problemów zdrowotnych, doboru nieodpowiednich metod leczenia i oszukiwania firm ubezpieczeniowych. Uważam, że urządzenia EAV powinny zostać skonfiskowane, zaś korzystający z nich lekarzy albo są złudni i/lub nieuczciwi. Jeśli natrafisz na urządzenie tego typu, zgłoś ten fakt do stanowego urzędu licencyjnego lekarza, pełnomocnika stanowego, FDA, Federalnej Komisji Handlowej, FBI, Krajowego Centrum Informacji o Nadużyciach Finansowych oraz jakiejkolwiek firmy ubezpieczeniowej, wobec której lekarz ma roszczenia obejmujące korzystanie z takiego urządzenia.
