Okay so, after about 4 hours of research (including last night before I fell asleep), I’ve come to the conclusion that the Borealis/Mushroom Kingdom area will be loosely based on the Netherlands and Rosie and Peach shall be the Mario world equivalent to Dutch. The Mushroom Kingdom won’t just be based on the Netherlands, as there are already some inspirations in the games (such as Toad Harbor being similar to San Francisco + Liberty Peach statue). A lot of the other kingdoms are also inspired by multiple locations (the Sand Kingdom being mostly Mexico with a hint of Easter Island/Japan; the Lake Kingdom being mostly Greece, but alluding to Scotland; etc) so it works

#devin speaks #super mario headcanons #okay so anyone interested in how i came to this conclusion can follow along here in the tags #first i considered rosie’s volendam costume from mario kart tour #then i checked that ‘average faces from around the world’ thing to check what an average netherlands person looks like #one of rosie’s defining features in my art of her has always been a very long and thin nose #so i wanted to keep that as part of her design #the netherlands person had a thin nose so it works out #plus turns out the dutch are statistically some of the tallest people in the world so that works out too #though rosie is well about average height lol #*above #so yeah rosie is dutch and thus peach is also dutch by default #however ive also never considered how long its been since rosie’s kingdom was around #if it was long enough then maybe peach wouldnt be the same as her ethnically #but thats too much real world knowledge that i cannot comprehend so ill just simplify it and say theyre ethnically the same
