trying to effectively synthesize my thoughts about boiadeiros in disco elysium into a meta post rn yet the neurons seem to be on strike atm
#oh shit i haven't taken my meds maybe THAT'S why i have the brainpower of a gnat rn#len speaks#anyways i am uniquely qualified to talk endlessly abt the western genre bc i was literally raised on western movies. i have such a weird#love/hate relationship with the genre bc like at least a third to a half of all westerns suck ass imho but the concept of the genre is gr8#and there are a few diamonds in the rough as well. anyways ik de is an homage to detective noirs in a way but i ALSO think it's somewhat#of an effective western (more spaghetti than anything traditional tbh). you got the moral ambiguity. you got the lawman main character. you#got the hostile townsfolk. you got the drifter trope. you got the shootout. you got the sense of clinging to a bygone era as the future#plods ever forwards. you got the cool guns. you got the alcoholism. you have a LOT of western tropes that i don't think are conscious#homages but are still FASCINATING#sorry for the tag rambles i'm REALLY trying to connect the dots here and it shows lmao
