how often should cages be cleaned? My roommate has a parottlet and I don't think the cage has been cleaned in at least a month.... I've always had reptiles/rodents that are super sensitive to their own waste so I've always had to clean up after my pets multiple times a week.
Partly depends on the lifestyle, if the birds are out of the cages majority of the time then cage cleaning is really a matter of just noting when it's getting messy. When I was home all day the girls weren't in the cages aside from sleeping, the room would get cleaned weekly but more often than not the cages didn't need to be done more than biweekly. I'd just spot clean throughout the week, scrub the dishes daily then do the deep clean every other week.If the birds are in the cages regularly (a typical 8 hour work schedule for most) then it should be spot cleaned as needed and deep cleaned weekly. If the birds have access to the bottom of the cage then the paper should be changed out daily. As a general rule, clean their food/water dishes every day-every other day, spot clean toys and perches as needed, deep clean the cage/change papers once a week, do a thorough deep clean of toys and perches once a month or so.
