Orpherick; Night to Remember
https://youtu.be/k0optPS9qrA Cover on @/rhyustunes on tiktok is also excellent to listen to in association <3 it’s what originally made me and Ghost want to write this!
The two having a complicated relationship. Getting on one another’s nerves. Though it’s mostly Orpheus annoying Frederick. Then Frederick throwing small quips back at the man. Though the two of them have an agreement of satisfying one another. An innate attraction they have for eachother that neither can deny. Exposed sloppily on a drunken night when Orpheus went to pick Frederick’s brain. Until that night where Orpheus decides to confess his deepening feelings towards Frederick. Assured he needn’t the other to reciprocate. He hated that vulnerable position he put himself in. Though that’s just the effect love has on a man. He was willing to drop that cocky act and be softer for a moment in a sweaty embrace. Honestly, it wasn’t all that romantic of setting. Though every time Frederick recalls that moment. The man above him who was whispering sweet nothings. It was to be expected of a Novelist to concoct such bewildering words. Only Orpheus would ever get away with saying such stupid things. He never batted an eye as this was always how the man acted. Up until that love confession he seemingly bitterly utter into the other’s ear. Only to then pretend he had never said a thing. So why was Frederick so miserable thinking about that night? Sat upon a piano stool performing in a ballroom for a party. It wasn’t the center focus for that evening. Perfectly placed where the balcony was with the doors open wide and the translucent white curtains fluttering on occasion. It was a lonely place for a piano to be amidst such a social gathering. Despite being accompanied by a soft glow from the golden chandelier up above. Except there was nothing special about this spot light. As if only the moonlight would confer with Frederick that night. He wouldn’t have minded normally avoiding such conversations. Except those drifting eyes he had kept landing on a certain Orpheus Deross in the distance.
Suave as always that pathetic smirk in place perfectly. Those stupid eyes which had a slight crease to them due to this expression. No doubt there was a sparkle in them with mischievous ploy. It seemed no matter what Orpheus couldn’t help himself. He certainly could see how he wouldn’t be able to restrain himself with the women he had been chatting with that night. He had kept count. One, two,,,there were quite a few that he either approached or had approached him. This was to be expected from someone such as himself. He was an esteemed Novelist and although Frederick bitterly admitted it the man was attractive. He had the face and attitude of a playboy.  He knew this about the man; yet despite his better judgement he grew agitated. The composition he was currently playing regretfully was related to that Novelist even. The words on the back of the sheet a flurry of confession. Something Frederick never planned on allowing anyone let alone Orpheus to read. He could imagine how he’d critique it. Granted, that was only if the man could understand french. He had no intentions of pursuing anything with that bastard. Though the very idea of Orpheus’s eyes falling to another’s was aggravating. It would be selfish of him to expect Orpheus to remain in love with him. He just couldn’t help it. Even now he blamed the Novelist for this current predicament. If they could act like they had before it would be fine. The idiot Orpheus had been distancing himself. Granted, it was all minor details. Such as the lingering touches Orpheus would leave upon his hand, back or shoulders. He always had mindlessly done such Frederick noticed. Orpheus had become distant with him and that was apparent. Something was disconnected.
He felt stupid hoping for the other’s attention as he played this work. The one inspired by him. The one he titled in reference to him even. The one with a poem of confession on the back. Alas, Everytime Frederick glanced at Orpheus the other never returned the gaze. He’d bite his tongue and fall into the keys. Humming ever so silently to himself a more solemn version. As the chill of the night seemed into his fingers and down his spine. He’d probably get sick from sitting here all night so sourly. Unfortunately enough for Orpheus though everytime he looked at Frederick he couldn’t seem to catch his gaze. The man was always so distracted in his work. He’d normally intrude though this was not the time for such. He couldn’t seem to escape the flowing conversations he found himself in. Neither of the two given opportunity to chat. The night would come to a close and Frederick would leave promptly when the Host started to give their final thanks. Only after snagging a bottle of wine for himself. He wasn’t normally one to drown their worries in alcohol. Yet he couldn’t stand having a sleepless night sober at the moment in lonesome.
