“What do you even mean by that?”
Tumblr media
The words themselves are all but lost on Firo - the meanings and implications behind them even more so. He’s READING - and his attentions can be devoted to only one thing at a time, lest he not truly be paying attention to anything at all. The book in his hands is one he might be thankful to be distracted from. Eyes linger at the passage before him—
I AM CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST: NEVERTHELESS I LIVE; YET NOT I, BUT CHRIST LIVETH IN ME: AND THE LIFE WHICH I NOW LIVE IN THE FLESH I LIVE BY THE FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD, WHO LOVED ME, AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR ME.
—for only a moment longer before sighing, his gaze flitting up to land instead on the priest. Various descriptors could be used for the look in the boy’s eyes. Annoyance. Irritation. Distaste. Disgust. Pull out a thesaurus - there are certainly more, all of them likely suitable in their own ways.
“—scratch that. I don’t want to know. I could live forever and never want to understand what you mean by half the things that come out of your mouth, you old freak.”

--- @ordaiined liked the permanent starter call.
Tumblr media
A church truly was the last place he’d expected to be taking refuge during his stay in Japan. He’d come here in search of a friend who’d suddenly stopped coming to class. His family, the Martillos, have contacts in an ever-growing list of places and know more informants than they would ever willingly admit. Of course they’d been able to find a lead on where Firo’s friend was - and Molsa, his adoptive ‘grandfather’ had even allowed Firo to stop attending classes to personally search for his friend.
The catch, unfortunately, is that he must stay here for the duration of his time in Japan. The logic is solid enough - the Mages Association and the Church are, for the most part, at peace. It is safest for a young magus such as Firo to stay within a church on his first adventure out into th world on his own. All the same, it annoys the boy - he isn’t religious, has never been so and does not foresee himself ever being so. Safe to say, Firo finds the building’s atmosphere unnerving. He constantly feels as though he should not be here.
“I could have just gotten a hotel room,” he complains under his breath, staring into the sparsely furnished room that would be his home for the foreseeable future. “It wouldn’t have even had to be a nice hotel, if Molsa was worried about the money issue...”
