thinking about using oil for this one. someday, perhaps….someday……actually, i have a lot of thoughts why pomegranate is THE farkhad’s fruit, most of them are connected with the fact that in Persian culture pomegranate is associated with a symbol of supreme authority, also, in some cultures, it is associated with a symbol of eternity, etc. (as far as i know) ((there’re a lot of other meanings of pomegranate, ofc))
@thunder-threnodies Felt like this definitely deserved its own post. I absolutely agree, and there is some precedent for it in how the Oneirotects help the Great Game spies develop and fortify their "mind palace", presumably referring to the method for memorization through visualization.
Though with the existence of Midnighters and the Great Game canonically using Irrigo and other methods to also alter memories that might otherwise keep their agents from completing their work, I think the two could imply that Silverers could influence more active alterations to the minds of sleepers.
After all, we see the public consensus being swayed in Parabola, when war is being waged. (I don't have the screenshot, but specifically: Provide A Distaction in the Fallen London theater, where the dreams of London's populace are tied to strength in Parabola).
And it especially seems possible when you consider the overlap between different professions, namely the more abstract capabilities of Schismatic Crooked Crosses in particular:
There is quite obviously a manipulable self, and it is definitely tied to Parabola. The Crooked Cross seems to also have some knowledge of this, if not the same scope that Silverers understand Parabola, with even the Beatificator working in the Waswood for their tasks. Meanwhile the Fractionist Licentiate seems to work on the more physical side to manipulate the same.
I love the implications of the self in Fallen London.
Being from Lonely Light and also having constant dragon dreams means that Gwyn has a lot of interesting things to say. Oswick and Toby are not always keen to hear about them. You start saying things like "My Nan turned into a whale when she died" and "I saw a stranger trying to communicate with me via a glass candle" and people start getting weird about it. Let the Targaryen speak, I say!
Characters are:

(Fuck it. Intro post time for my first Fallen London oc…)
You find yourself walking the streets of Spite, the ground covered in a thin layer of lacre. The streets are busy at this time of day, people shuffling about on their own ways. You only notice a change in the air because of said people moving like a school of fish splitting as a shark passes by.
Is that… one of the masters? No… it couldn’t be. This figure is much too short to be one of those towering figures. The cloak that made you believe they were a master trails behind them, much too large on their frame, but still bringing with it a sense of dread and mystery.
The figure marches onwards, seemingly undisturbed by the people staring and moving out of their way. You watch in curiosity as they stop at a wall covered in paper advertisements, staring at the adverts on the wall.
Then, the figure reaches a hand up, the sleeve slipping just enough to show a nasty set of old scars on the back of their hand, before their hand grabs the edge of the hood that obscures their face… and pulls it down. You don’t know why, but you didn’t quite expect to see someone so human under that cloak…
The curly haired figure scrutinizes the adverts on the wall, their nose wrinkling up in distaste at whatever they read, before they sigh and pull out a stack of papers from beneath their cloak, and then a jar of adhesive glue to paste up their own papers. They set to work covering up the advertisements with the papers they brought.
Finally after some time, they turn and march off, allowing you to stalk over and read the new advertisement that the cloaked figure put up.
“Mx. Darthfellow, Silverer Oneirotect for hire. Writer, hunter, zailor, and other miscellaneous jobs upon request. Located at Benthic University offices. Home calls can be sent to the address of the bookshop on the corner of Doubt Street closest to Spite.”
Interesting… you might have to save this information for later usage. Who knows? Maybe you’ll need this Silverer’s services someday.
(Excuse the name on the profile. I made this account so long ago when I wasn’t even playing a character and was just fucking around, so it has my old username as the name)
Hello! I'm Rachel (though you can also call me Ray or Shay) and my non-FL blog is @honeyed-ink. Any pronouns are fine. I first played Fallen London from about 2010-2016. I then took a hiatus that turned into 8 years away, and I'm getting used to the changes and learning all the new lore. I haven't played any of the other games yet, but I am aware of the basic premises of all of them and I'm not concerned about spoilers. Feel free to send me asks and messages here (I'm most active in the mornings and evenings, Eastern USA time zone). You can also send my characters calling cards; they're always happy to make new friends! Any messages for Emory can be sent to Nora's account.
Basic character info, with profile links for those who have them (picrews used were these two and are not necessarily 100% accurate to how I view them):
Lenora V. Kenward, the Disarming Detective (she/her), Nora to friends and Viola as a nom de plume/second identity when needed
i like to think fourfold bullet images [3xbullet, oneirotects, stamatins, etc.] are like. generally Approachable in the sense that the images and symbols are like. at least curious and immediately visible. if not sensical [and they may not be fully sensical. because they are made of a patchwork of memories and sensations from my friends' work and my own thoughts and feelings. so certain things which were once part of a larger sequence have now been reduced to symbols.] But also trying to explain things to passersby feels like this [image courtesy of francis]
After some conversation on the FBO discord, I've made a quick survey designed to get a glimpse of the relative popularity - and reasons for popularity - of the different Professional Specializations available to characters in Fallen London.
What are those? Well, it used to be that once your character became a Midnighter, Correspondent, what have you, that was as far as they could go. Well, relatively recently, FBG allowed you the ability to gain a Professional Specialization based on your profession! So a Silverer could further specialize into an Oneirotect or an Ontological Cartographer, for example.
This survey has three parts: the first page to see which Professional Specialization your character account has (or the one you think would be most fitting for the character), the second page to ask what about that Specialization appealed to you, and the third page to...well, that one's just for fun.
Feel free to respond to it for multiple accounts, or even if you don't have one of those advanced professions at all yet! There are options for Doctors and Notaries, as well as those who switch often or simply prefer other game professions altogether.
See here for the survey, and here to see the survey's results so far.
