annnnd we have reached the final haul, vampire diaries season 8, for the first damn time ever in 2019 bc why the fuck not.

here we go:

this whole, ‘oh no damon and ezno are in trouble, we gotta save them, what do we do?’ bullshit would be more interesting if i gave one single shit abt either enzo OR damon. alas, iiiiiii do not.

rip tyler. soz you weren’t more interesting and they did the werewolf arc dirty.

sirens, in theory i’m SO INTO but as with so much of the mythos on this show, i fear the potential far outways the outcome.

if claud from warehouse 13 is a bad guy i’m gonna be real bummed bc i’m programmed to love her.

i am so fucking sick of characters calling stefan a victim who was forced to become a monster bullshit. seline looking at ripper stefan and just seeing anguish is.... against all of the bs that they previously said abt ripper stefan, for starters, and pathetic, for seconds. HE’S A GODDAMN EVIL SON OF A BITCH WHEN HE WANTS TO BE AT LEAST JUST FUCKING LEAN INTO IT OR DON’T MY GOD.

frankly, this arc is also kinda boring. what the hell is sybill’s plan/deal at this point? like, what does she want? what does damon? I DON’T ACTUALLY CARE but if we’re gonna spend so much goddamn time talking abt it might as well actually make sense and show me.

okay, alaric is a piece of shit. why isn’t caroline there when seline sees the girls again? does she even know this is happening? why the fuCK is the show determined to barely show her with them?

cool so i dont give a single fuck abt a damon and stefan murder spree, sooooo i’m fast forwarding through all of their scenes now. merry fucking christmas indeed.

sybill is obviously ~evil~ but um, girl has a point abt stefan always turning back into ripper stefan (which, jfc, that moniker and also like whole turn humanity off thing are getting kinda old) and it being dangerous for the twins. everyone on this show should stake the salvatores and be done with it and live their lives. ffs.

ugh, yall i’m bored again. i think this show is a very good example of a show that went on far longer than it should have. like, objectively there is nothing terrible abt what is happening rn, but it’s not good. like this is a show that doesn’t elevate itself, it grinds a few tropes into the ground until everyone chokes on them. twice. i’m not of the belief that no show can go past four seasons without becoming terrible, but once shows hit the four to five season mark they need to evolve and reevaluate and be willing to shuck things completely. that doesn't mean letting characters go and bringing new ones in. that doesn't elevate things if you’re just going to put those characters through the same beats as the ones that came before. it doesn’t mean HERE’S A BIGGER BAD. HERE’S A BIGGER MORE HEIGHTENED END OF THE WORLD THING but our mains who are terrible will be fine, bc they’re always fine. bigger doesn’t always mean better, in my experience, it generally leads to the opposite. in this particular case, it very much leads to the opposite. tvd should have bagged it in s6 or taken a very different direction in s7 and they did like, at face value. the whole flashforwards thing was a new format a new way to tell a story and show our characters and i wish it had worked for me bc it hits a lot of my narrative buttons but it didn’t.

this is also clearly furthered by the fact that the salvatores are the main hook now post s6 and..... yall they suck. and they are the ones the show repeats narratives with the most. and it’s the most infuriating thing abt this show, almost. damon makes crazy eyes and whines abt how he’s bad, stefan says he can save his brother and then turns off his humanity, and everyone tries to save him. it’s jsut.... so goddamn boring.

bb josie being SUPER PROTECTIVE of caroline, even if the person she is being protective against is lizzie is..... A LOT for me yall

COOL I’M DONE. I’M FREE, WE’RE ALL FREE. this show went v downhill but the moral of this rewatch is... back half of s1-s4, a few bits of s5 and a solid chunk of s6 were... p damn good my guy. and i had a fun time.
