The Weight of The Banner

Recently played through the whole Banner Saga trilogy with a good buddy who’d never tried the games before. He fell so in love with it I had to make him a piece based around the choices he made. (Also @ all my pathologic followers, if you like games about slow walking and starving to death with good character writing, try the banner saga series PLEASE)

#the banner saga #the banner saga fanart #watercolour #watercolour painting #traditional art #not joking around with that recommendation btw #it doesn’t have the meta narrative of patho or the theatre elements but it do got #1: an extremely stand out and well directed art style #2: weight on character driven story where you feel you actually get to know a good 30+ people #3: gameplay that’s tough but masterable #4: the best example I’ve ever seen where narrative and gameplay mechanics are inseparable #characters stats and moves match who they are perfectly #off the top of my head. there’s a young barely 20 year old called egil. all he’s got is a shield but he’s been practicing with it for years #so level 1 all he has is decent armour numbers and the ability to shield wall.#but as he learns from other people on level up he can choose any second ability at all available to his class.#he’s extremely adaptable because he hasn’t learnt his fighting style yet #and every character has that level of thought
