Okay, I’m not gonna take up too much time but let me explain: I had the thought that as Lloyd gets older there is a part of him that wants a normal life, and long story short I made an oc Corlette and I have fallen in love with her.
So here are the story beats: This is during Dragons Rising, Corlette used to be in a cult that used the concepts of nun and sisters, Lloyd and Corlette met when Lloyd ended up on the doorsteps of the cult when he was gravely injured, Corlette join the ninja gang after cult shenanigans, She takes care of the monastery with (or in place of) Mr. Frohicky, Corlette has confused her love to Lloyd yet hasn’t gotten a response, and idk how we got to the plot of this fic we just did, kidnapping/running-away shenanigans. Enjoy!
“ARE YOU TWO OKAY!”
Whoever is above… grandpappy maybe… don’t let these kids change.
Lloyd chuckled, looking at Arin and Sora’s worried expressions from his phone screen, “Yeah, Corlette and I are fine.”
“What the hell did those guys want with Corlette anyway?” Cole asked.
The blonde leader sighed, “Aftermath of the cult, I guess, they only referred to her as sister Corlette or sister Clover.”
“Oh, I thought Clover was your nickname for her,” Kai laughed.
“Shush,” Lloyd huffed.
“Where are you two right now?” Cole asked, after elbowing Kai in the ribs, “It looks gloomy.”
“We found a city in the middle of a forest,” Lloyd began, “It’s obviously not a part of Ninjago a merged realm. It started raining hard once ever since Corlette and I got out of that stupid cave we found the closest building for shelter, which happened to be a hotel.”
“Atta boy!” Kai exclaimed before being smacked upside the head by a hard nindroid hand.
“Do you even have money for a hotel room right now?” Sora asked.
Lloyd shook his head, “No, but our tales of heroism have reached here, we have gotten the room for free…” he looked at the room through the balcony door glass, he was given a very nice and most likely very expensive, deluxe suite, “It’s a little too big for my liking and I mean we are only here to get our clothes dry.”
“I would advise against that Lloyd,” Zane remarked off-screen.
Lloyd sighed, “Zane, I’ve had enough bad news for one day, don’t give me more.”
“Apologize, but—”
“I don’t like that but.”
“There is a storm system heading start for that area,” Zane informed, “It would be best for the two of you to stay put and leave with the storm passes.”
“Send me radar and I’ll make that decision for myself!”
He could hear Zane sigh, “You are going to agree with me, especially since you jumped on that motorcycle of yours,” the nindroid scoffed, “like some kind of manic.”
The weather radar is covered in oranges, reds, and even purples where Lloyd and Corlette are located, “Well, shit,” the green ninja sighed.
“So, you agree with me,” Zane replied smugly, pocking his head in frame.
“Look on the bright side Lloyd you’ll get to spend alone time with your clover~” Kai mocked.
“Stop it,” Lloyd huffed, his cheeks heating up in the view of everyone in the hanger bay.
“Alright, everyone out!” Zane ordered.
“Stay safe, Lloyd,” Arin commented as everyone headed for the elevator.
It’s now only Zane and Lloyd, the ice ninja in full view of the camera, “You sure you can’t come and rescue us?”
“Sadly no.” Zane answered, “that would put us in more danger.”
Lloyd sighed, looking out into the large city in the middle of the forest, from the covered balcony, watching the gray clouds get even grayer as the rain continued to pour down, “I don’t want to be alone with her right now,” Lloyd confessed, “I feel horrible.”
Zane hummed. Lloyd had confided in Zane more than once about Corlette ever since she confessed, she had feelings for him.
“I mean what are we going to talk about, we’ve already had the gut-punching conversation now it’s going to be awkward,” Lloyd groaned.
“Maybe it will be good if you two are truly alone. You two will be able to properly talk. Maybe work out your feelings with her.”
Lloyd huffed, “I hope you are right. Because if you aren’t this is only going to get worse.”
“I’ll keep an eye on the weather, and keep you updated,” Zane remarked.
“Thanks, Zane,” Lloyd replied, “See ya whenever we get out of this place.”
“See you soon.”
Their call is then disconnected, and Lloyd went back inside the shower tap is no longer running unlike before when he went out on the balcony. Corlette exited the bathroom, in a dark-colored robe and her hair wrapped in a towel.
“That bathroom is the nicest bathroom I’ve ever been in,” she commented.
“I can only imagine,” Lloyd retorted watching her take her hair down from the towel wrap, her willow and dem spring hair falling her hair back and hitting her shoulders.
“Thank you for saving me… once again.”
“You say that as if I wouldn’t.”
Corlette laughed, “That’s not what I might.”
“So, what did you mean?” Lloyd asked.
She stood there her head tilted to the side with a hand full of her drying with the towel, “You came to save me.”
“I heard no difference.”
“Of course, you didn’t,” Corlette giggled, “I put some towels in the towel warmer for you, for whatever you want to do, my clothes are in the dryer, so just toss your stuff in there and hit start."
“Uh, it wouldn’t hurt to wash our clothes maybe, we’ll be here the whole night most likely,” Lloyd explained, walking toward the bathroom.
“Well, that sucks.” Corlette sighed, “At least the room is nice.”
Lloyd hummed as he entered the bathroom, getting ready to jump in the shower, ready to overthink his feelings for Corlette and every interaction they’d ever had.
“Lloyd, I love you!”
It is not that he doesn’t love her. There is a part of me that has fallen in love with her in the time that they’ve known each other, the past 6 months. Yet he couldn’t answer her,
“I don’t need a response.”
That just made it even worse, he knew he looked stupid, and he didn’t even seem himself. That night, in the training yard, staring at Corlette his red and green heterochromatic eyes big and wide looking at her shocked, because she said something that he never thought he would ever hear, and then said she didn’t need a fucking response.
It’s rough for a man who doesn’t believe he can be loved by someone so caring and thoughtful.
Damn, shits rough when your heart has been destroyed by an evil princess.
Once he’s done brooding in the shower, he wrapped himself in the same dark-colored robe Corlette that the hotel provided and started the dyer. Exiting the bathroom find Corlette lying on the L-shaped couch left of the balcony door.
Look down at her as she lay on the couch with her eyes closed as she was meditating, “You okay, clover?” He asked, knowing she wasn’t asleep by her crossing and uncrossing her ankles.
“Yeah, only have a bunch of burses and broken nails,” she answered, after opening her beautiful latte-colored eyes and holding up her right hand showing off the broken nail on her ring finger, “your hair looks nice like that.”
“What? Wet,” he scoffed as she got up and off the couch.
Corlette giggled, looking over at the large bed in the suite, “So, I guess we are sharing a bed.”
“Huh?”
“One bed,” she remarked pointing to the bed whilst looking back at him, “but it’s large enough for us not to touch.”
Lloyd’s cheeks became flushed at her comment. But in truth, he would love nothing more than to lay with her and hold her.
“Unless you want to touch then, I can kick you in the middle of the night,” she joked making Lloyd chuckle slightly.
Corlette moved her way over to that large bed and laid down before sighing loudly, “Thankfully, we are here for free,” she mentioned, “I can’t imagine what this room would cost, especially with a bed like this.”
“A bed can’t be that comfortable,” Lloyd observed her seemingly sink into the bed mattress and pillowy cloud-like bedding.
“Come here then, savior,” Corlette replied, “You’ll be eating your words.”
Lloyd sighed. making his way over, he’s going to get himself in trouble with this whole bed-sharing situation.
“Holy shit, this bed is nice.”
Corlette giggled.
“I’m sorry,” Lloyd sighed after a few minutes of lying there in silence.
“For what?”
“Letting you get kidnapped.”
Corlette scoffed, “You did not let me get kidnapped.”
“If you weren’t with us—”
“AH-NO!” She exclaimed sitting put then looking at Lloyd, a finger in his face, “You and your little ninja family are not the reason a broken faction of a sacrificing cult kidnapped me! Remember, I was a part of the cult; you helped me out of it! AND YOU!” She poked him in the chest, “Jumped on a motorcycle to save me from being sacrificed, again. You are not a fault!”
Lloyd sighed with a slight smile on his face, at her praise, “If anything I am the one a fault, I was roaming around the crossroads without a care if I was noticed or recognized,” she added.
“Hey now! You were running our errands,” Lloyd retorted, “How about we both say we are to blame and make it even.”
Corlette giggled before grabbing a large strand of her lengthy hair, “Maybe I need to change my hair color or haircut, It’s very distinct.”
“No,” Lloyd sighed, twirling a strand of her hair before his sigh turned into a bit of a whine, “No, don’t do that, hair is perfect.”
“I shouldn’t have mentioned changing my hair color with the man who loves the color green.”
Lloyd continued to play with her hair as she sat next to him, “What would you even color your hair anyway?”
“I don’t know,” She muttered, “Brown?”
“Mhm.” Lloyd hummed, attempting to picture her with Brown hair, “I think you are more than gorgeous with your hair the way it is now. But if you had to you’d still be just as gorgeous if your hair was brown.”
Lay his life in front of the First Spinjitzu Master, his own grandfather, he’s in love with this woman!
“You are being quiet the flirt,” Corlette remarked as fingers left the tips of her hair.
“I can’t help it,” Lloyd admitted, “You’re gorgeous.”
“I bet you tell that to everyone you save,” she added, jokingly.
It made him think for a second, made him think of Harumi. Did he ever call her gorgeous? He did think at one point that the Jade Princess was beautiful, but he could never recall ever telling Harumi that she was beautiful.
“No, you are the only one,” Lloyd replied softly, “…Gorgeous.”
“You are getting into dangerous waters, Savior,” Corlette commented.
“I would say we are already in dangerous waters,” Lloyd retorted, his hand resting on the side of her forearm, “Ya’ know, since of the rain.”
After the mention of the rain, a loud clap of thunder made Corlette jump, as the few lights that were on in the room flickered, “That was loud,” she whimpered.
“Weather’s getting worse,” Lloyd muttered, his thumb stroking her forearm.
“How bad is it supposed to get?”
Lloyd reached for his phone allowing her to see the weather radar Zane sent him, “Oh no,” she muttered, “Lloyd this is terrible.”
“I know, that’s why we can’t go home,” he mentioned, as she handed him back his phone.
“I hope my phone can be fixed,” She commented,
“It may be something below Zane’s pay grade, but it can be fixed.”
Corlette sighed laying on her stomach elbows digging into the mattress as her first rest on her chest whilst continuing a soft conversation full of meaningless small talk with Lloyd, as the weather continued to roar on outside as the night grew later and the skies grew darker.
Once the power went out because of the bad weather, the two of them only got closer under the cloud-like sheets on the big hotel bed, and it wasn’t even on purpose.
In the darkness of the hotel room, the light coming from Lloyd’s glowing eyes, Corlette giggled brushing strands of his hair out of his face, as he basically laid under her. “What’s funny?” he asked.
“Your eyes,” Corlette answered, “I never realized how bright they glowed until now.”
As Lloyd continued to stare at her and think about her. Not only because she was there and they were talking to one another, he was barely paying attention to what they were talking about anymore, but thinking about how close they were, how soft she was being and speaking, how she touched him.
“Corlette…” Lloyd sighed, tucking her hair behind her ear, “You know, don’t you?”
“Know what?” She asked, enjoying his hand creasing her cheek.
“Corlette,” he groaned, “You can’t be serious.”
“I have no idea what you are talking about,” she replied with a wicked smirk on her face.
Lloyd huffed painfully aware of how close they both were, “Would you like me to say it again?” she asked.
“Please!”
Their foreheads rested comfortably against each other, “I love you, Lloyd.”
Those words made him feel like he was floating, and her closeness made him want her to be even closer. They stay their foreheads resting against for a good minute, eyes closed, basking in the comfort.
“You don’t nee-efm!”
He didn’t want to hear her say she didn’t need a response, not he couldn’t hear it again. Kissing her softly, and pulling her as close as she could be, Lloyd could run a marathon in this horrible ass weather at the rate he’s going.
“Fuck, I love you,” Lloyd exhaled, breathing against her lips.
Corlette smiled, “Thank you,” she cooed tracing the scar under his left eye.
“I’m sorry it took me so long to say it,” he breathed, kissing her knuckles on her left hand as she continued to trace the imperfection on his face.
“I only confessed to you maybe a couple of months ago, that doesn’t matter,” Corlette retorted.
“It’s hard,” the blond man lamented, “When you told me you loved me, I wanted to tell you that I adored you just the same, yet I couldn’t.”
“Lloyd, It’s alright,” the greenette breathed, “Your actions speak louder than your words.”
“I saved you!” Lloyd huffed smacking his forehead, making Corlette nod, “I saved you!”
“You got now, lover?”
“I’m an idiot,” he groaned.
“No, you’re not,” she laughed.
“I love you,” Lloyd yearned, rubbing up and down her arm.
“I love you too,” Corlette longed kissing him softly.
“You called me lover, is that something that going that’s going to stick like “savior”?”
“If you want it too.”
Lloyd held her close as they slept after kissing her a little more of course, groaning at the sound of his phone ringing only a few hours after they both fell asleep, “What,” he grumbled, answering the call.
“Good morning, Lloyd,” Zane replied.
“Zane, if you have called me this early just tell me that there is more shit weather—”
“I was calling to inform you that the weather has cleared up and it should be safe for you and Corlette to begin traveling by 10 which happens to be the check-out time for the hotel the two of you are staying in.”
Right, he and Corlette have to leave and go back to the monastery, no longer alone together, “Thanks Zane, I’ll call you when we are on the road.”
“You’re welcome,” Zane replied, before hanging up.
Corlette groaned into Lloyd's chest, “Who was that?’ she asked.
“Zane, we can leave soon,” Lloyd answered.
She went to get up and gathered what little things they had so they could leave yet she was pulled back into Lloyd’s chest, “I said soon, not now,” he complained.
“I understand that but—” Her attempt to protest is silenced by his lips.
“I should have gotten myself kidnapped a month ago if it would end like this,” Corlette joked against his lips before kissing him again.
“No, I should have told you I love you from the start,” Lloyd retorted, “More maybe we should have just been caught in the rain.”
Corlette giggled playing with his hair, “It’s going to be hard to get peace like this when we get back.”
“We could always come back here if we are able,” Lloyd remarked.
“I like that idea, just not when it’s a horrible downpour.”
“Agreed.”

oh my god i've had the exact same thoughts abt plundar and the rest of the upply like i think it's so interesting how he's pretty friendly and chill with cole when he first falls down and constantly smiling when they get out despite how pessimistic and straight up rude he was almost the entire rest of the season. he's actually such a nice guy he just has depression 🤷‍♀️
EXACTLY
And it's only because of Cole that he's chill now, Fungus tried to get him to relax in Dungeon Crawl! but didn't succeed because of how pessimistic Plundar was at the time.
He IS a nice guy but just has depression and probably some trauma too.
Ninjago's characters are so well written and I wish it was discussed more often. Like even with Fungus -- he eventually gets sick of Plundar's shit. In The Ascent, there are subtle ways in how he's animated and how Ian James Corlett voices him -- specifically his "Well, Plundar? What do your dice advise?" line -- where he's clearly getting sick of how pessimistic Plundar's been (it's worth noting that in Dungeon Crawl! Fungus also tried to console Plundar a bit, but it was overshadowed by how caught up in "we're never getting out of here" Plundar was).
Even with Korgran I feel like it's implied his axe's dialogue is just what he's thinking subconsciously, a vibe I mostly get from the "You guys are bananas!" line from the axe.
Ninjago has some top tier character writing and it makes me super sad that it's not talked about a lot.

So today I'm going to talk about an English dub VA for DBZ that doesn't really get much love, mostly because this particular dub of DBZ was never aired in the USA and mostly aired in Europe and in Canada. But today I'm going to talk about the other English voice actor for the character of Son Goku Kirby Morrow, who began voicing the character from the Cell Games and the rest of DBZ after Peter Kelamis who was unavailable at the time.
Kirby Morrow was the... well technically 4th English voice actor for Adult Goku (Sean Schemmel being the 3rd with Ian Corlett and Peter Kelamis (Best) being the first and second) but he's the 3rd Goku for the particular dub we will be talking about.
I'm going to be honest, Kirby Morrow did a good job despite the challenges he was given for dubbing the character from the rushed production, and having to come after (in my personal opinion) the best English Goku (Peter Kelamis) and having little time to get in the groove of the character, but Kirby Morrow did a great job when finding his own voice for Goku, especially in the Buu Saga.
If you recognize the voice, you might have hears Kirby Morrow in his other roles, from Cyclops in X-Men Evolution, to Miroku in Inuyasha, Trowa Barton in Gundam Wing, Cole in Lego Ninjago, etc, etc, man had done alot.
If you're curious to see more of his work as Goku, you can find the Dragon Ball Z westwood/Ocean dub on Google and mostly on archive.com
Also R.I.P. Kirby Morrow who we did lose two years ago in 2020.

it’s three am and I should I be asleep but today is the ten year anniversary of Ninjago and I’m just... so so so happy and full of genuine joy. Ninjago is the reason I joined tumblr (even if I’m more atla now, I will always be Ninjago at my core), Ninjago is the reason I began to write as much as I do now, Ninjago helped me realize third person was my writing strong suite. Ninjago is... so much to me. I was there in 2011 when it started and I remember all of the raw emotions I felt watching the show.
Finding out Lloyd was the green ninja. The ninja getting younger and Lloyd growing older. Crying at the season two finale when Lloyd broke his leg and the rest of his team got hit and turned evil. I remember being devestated when Zane died. And being so happy when he came back. I vividly remember being in the car to Dairy Queen when I was in eighth grade when I first found out Cole became a ghost and I remember watching season five in other languages on YouTube just to see what happened.
I remember sitting on my bed crying over The Last Resort. I remember the fandom screaming when Maya and Ray entered the picture and when Lloyd said “Twins look alike”. I remember everyone guessing who Samurai X would be and who the baby was. I remember episode 92 of Ninjago when Harumi died and I remember saying “the resistance never quits” and feeling such power and confidence in myself. I remember crying when Cole fell— not just because he’s my favorite character, but also because Ninjago handled that scene so well. I remember learning the scene when Lloyd finds out Cole fell in asl and rewatching that scene at least twenty times a day. I remember telling my math teacher that episode 98 of Ninjago would be live-streamed during her class (senior year of high school) and that I had to watch it because I have been so mentally distraught about the fall all week and her kids loved the show too so she let me and I actually cried in class when Lloyd “died”.
I remember learning about Ninjago anime through tumblr. I remember screeching when Cole had the nightmares about falling and when Zane was the Ice Emperor. I remember getting so excited when I found out Scott and FugiDove were voiced by Adrian Petriw and that Cole fell once more. I remember season thirteen coming out and crying again because Cole finally has a season and it was so freaking good. I remember learning that Kirby Morrow died on November 19th, 2020.
I remember a family. I remember a passion. I remember the home I never felt like I had. I remember the true potential episodes. “I know who I am”, “you are the best you”, “I’m proud of who I am and I want you to be proud too”, “I knew when I had to make a choice”. I remember “we are so hooped”.
I remember love and heartbreak, tears and joy. I remember that the best way to defeat your enemy is to make them your friend. I remember bequeath. I remember “this isn’t about numbers, it’s about family!”. I remember Jay essentially telling Cole that his feelings for him are stronger than his feelings for his girlfriend. I remember “Chen can try his best to split up our team, but he’s about to find out what happens when we put ourselves back together”. I remember that as iron sharpens iron, brother sharpens brother. I will always remember the iconic “that was anticlimactic” from Kai.
I remember “save me, Jay Walker. There’s gonna be a wedding and I want you to do something about it”. I remember that if you want soenhnjng bad enough, you find a way to make it happen. I remember Day of the Departed and how kind Cole was to Yang, how he regained his mortality and was left with his scar. I remember Cole’s relationship with Wu, how close of a bond they had. I remember getting literal chills from Britt McKillip singing “spider’s in the house, sleep, sleep. Spider bit the mouse, sleep deep. Don’t wake up or else you’ll find a spider in your mouth”. I remember laughing so hard when Cole was singing as Rock Dangerbuff. I remember Jay going mad in the realm of Oni and Dragon. I remember seeing the bones of the Ultra Dragon. I remember being so excited to see the elemental masters (and Darreth) again. I remember “there’s more to life than surviving!”.
I remember being so happy to learn that s11-13 were going to happen. I remember Vex and Akita, Unagami and Scott, The Skull Sorcerer and Vania (the Geckles and Munce). I remember Lilly. I remember.
I remember Ninjago, a show that means more to me than I can fit into words. I remember a silly television show that changed my entire life. I remember characters who brought me joy when no one else could.
So I thank Cole, Kai, Jay, Zane, Lloyd, Nya, Pixal, Skylor, Garmadon, Wu (sometimes— if he’s not hiding stuff😂), Misako, Darreth, Ronin, Pythor, the other Elemental Masters, Cyrus Borg, Dr. Julien, Lou, Ray and Maya, Ed and Edna (I love them), Morro, Harumi, The Overlord, Mystake, Faith, and so many other characters.
Thank you, Kirby Morrow, Vincent Tong, Brent Miller, Michael Adamthwaite, Kelly Metzger, Jillian Michaels, Sam Vincent, Paul / Michael / Brian Dobson, Mark Oliver, Kathleen Barr, Jennifer Hayward, Heather Doerksen, Alan Marriott, Andrew Francis, Ian James Corlett, Britt McKillip, Scott McNeil, Tabitha St Germain, Lee Tockar, and so so so many others.
To Dan and Kevin Hageman, Tommy Andreasen, The Fold: thank you so much.

At this point I’m just watching the seasons to keep the momentum going after two great (and one flawed but still okay) seasons. With Friday being a Bank Holiday, I might get the rest of the pre-11 stuff wrapped up by the weekend. But enough of the future, how about the season I watched, Sons of Garmadon?
It had a lot to live up to based on its reputation, and I’m happy to report that it delivers on what it sets out to do. Issues with the season are fairly minor tribbles, but that’s something I can cover in the notes.
-Hoo boy, let’s get this out of the way; the movie did fucking wonders for Lloyd Garmadon. Spending like five seasons stuck to his blander “chosen one must learn” characterisation, this season gives him a very long overdue overhaul into a more modern chosen one protagonist who is way more entertaining to watch. Bonus points for having a look I can take seriously now...yeah, sorry, but the Anakin hairpiece with the strange approach to voice commitment never did for me, even as it became the norm for what I was viewing.  -To be honest, his teammates get some good material here too. Some more than others (Zane especially has a really good little arc where he gets to show his more calculating side. Cole’s arc is okay but I don’t feel it quite nails the landing as well), but they all get chance to banter and have character moments, which is mainly what I come into shows for as opposed to straight up development constantly. Shout outs to Jay who has small moments, but important ones that do really good for his character (I could go into why Lloyd and Jay make the most sense as leads...probably after my season watching is done). I also like the callback to a character moment he had in season 3. Also this finally feels like the writers are sticking to characterisation, this season mostly keeping what Hands of Time did with them. Not so much design-wise, but I’ve made it clear many times that I prefer the new designs to old. Also, I get to throw in Pixal as a main character now since she’s clearly on the team full time. She’s good here too. -The dynamics get their own section just because I want to restate how I prefer the dynamic between Jay and Lloyd compared to Kai and Lloyd so far. Seriously, Jay seems to step up to bat for Lloyd more than Kai at this point. And yet no-one really seems to be interested in it within the fandom. -There wasn’t really much in the way of side characters this season (I am aware that next season will change that). Misako was good for what little material she had, Wu was fun and actually became a solid character in his own right once he became a toddler, Dareth is solid and really gets to show his alternative way of helping out, and the police commissioner...eh, better than season 6 but I’m still not big on him.  -I can sum up Harumi in one sentence; Skylor but done better on every count (and also evil). She’s engaging when she’s acting as the more humble Princess figure, and she’s nicely hammy when she’s unleashing her evil side. I can see why people would be into Lloyrumi with such a investing act (for the record, I’m not). This all being said, those who say that Harumi had a point are missing one important detail; as much destruction has been caused with the ninjas’ close call; what alternative is there? I don’t see anyone else stepping up to save Ninjago so it would have probably fully fallen a long time ago. And even with the Great Devourer, Lord Garmadon was channelling his good side to deliver a finishing blow, he still needed the ninja there.  -We have three other villains and two of them are enjoyable. Ultra-Violet is committed to her crazy shtick and amusing, and Killow is definitely different to how I thought he’d be, but it’s a lot more enjoyable (especially when Garry Chalk is channelling every bit of his Sonic Underground Robotnik voice he can. Kind of like how Clancee was Ian James Corlett channelling a lot of his scrub monkey third class). Mr E can go rust though.  -Unlike the other seasons which people cite as dark, this one feels like it does actually go there. It’s not completely a dark season, mostly the end of Jade Princess and scenes between Game of Masks and Big Trouble, Little Ninjago. It was still pretty fun and light-ish hearted outside of that. -Weirdly enough, most of my quibbles are on the technical side. People cite this season as having the best animation...but I don’t really see it. In terms of visuals it’s a step up, but the actual animation doesn’t feel that different to Hands of Time. They learned to use flashier graphics everywhere. Which is probably why the intro is the way it is, and I’m sorry but this is probably my least favourite intro. I can’t appreciate the spectacle when focusing on anything is difficult to achieve. On top of that, there were still some glaring graphical fuck-ups (like when Cole is shown with the other ninja in a scene where he was captured, or when Lloyd was shown with green eyes in a shot despite being drained of power at that point), which aren’t really any different to the ones Prime Empire has.  -The pacing of the season wasn’t entirely smooth, but unlike other seasons it’s not like one set issue. It’s more like a concertina effect; it was very quick at first, then slows down, then speeds up again, then slows down, then finally hits an even tempo about halfway through. This is why I didn’t mention the likes of Hutchins, the parents or the Mechanic before; because of the pace, you don’t really get enough time to really get attached to them (doesn’t help that the Mechanic has Alan Marriott doing the voice in his cameo, and man does it not fit compared to Skybound. I’m glad when the Mechanic got more substantial stuff they went back to his original VA, that voice is so fun).  -My other big thing is actually the complete continuity snarl that’s Harumi’s backstory makes. They’ve thrown in so many random events over the seasons but because of the sheer vagueness of the timescales it doesn’t really break suspension of disbelief. But Harumi’s turn to darkness is clearly during the ending of season 1, which we have a much more tangible sense of time for. Harumi seems like she’s about 8-10 then, the ninja seem like they were 14-15 then, Harumi seems like she’s 15-18 now but the showrunner still insist that the ninja are teenagers? How does that work, the most generous allowance for time is five years, and that would barely make them still teenagers in season 8. Certainly don’t believe they could be teenagers as of the most recent seasons. -On a completely different tangent, can we talk about the toilet humour? Yeah, it’s not like it’s never been there (there’s been poop jokes, fart jokes, halitosis jokes, and who can forget that one utterly cringe scene in S3?), but Hands of Time and Sons of Garmadon do it in a way that just comes off as really weird compared to earlier toilet humour. Like, there’s the implication by Jay in season 7 that Kai has issues with constipation, Cole’s truth tea dose forces him to say that he pees in the pool, and then there’s Kai, right to Harumi’s face, all but saying that Jay has issues with peeing himself. Her reaction to it is fucking hilarious, but it’s still weird, even though knowing Vincent Tong he would totally do that.
Overall, this was a great season, and it’s clear to see how this became such a draw to the series (meaning in hindsight, LEGO’s method of dealing with the new style was pretty much a winner). The issues I have don’t stop the quality being across the board. Aside from Possession, I think this may be a favourite season from the pre-11 stuff.
Next time, we effectively get the second part to this story. Yep, it ended in a cliffhanger so we’ve hardly wrapped it up here. Time to see how the OG ninja and newer recruits handle themselves alone in Hunted.

DO NOT EDIT MY ART IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM
DO NOT UPLOAD ONTO DERPIBOORU
While I was at Bronycon 2017, I went to the Voices of Ninjago panel. Ian Corlett, Brian Drummond and Vincent Tong where they recapped about their experiences when working on Ninjago. When it came to questions and answers, I asked if the three of them were ever nervous when voice acting and if they could give any advice to people who have anxiety (I also told them that I had pretty bad anxiety myself). Vincent said that when you're voice acting (or even giving a speech), your posture can help you be more confident when performing. I'll make sure I take that advice when I'm giving a speech. ^_^

The Cult Vesperine
Tumblr media
Hey, welcome/welcome back if you have read my Lloyd x OC content before, I hope you are happy to see Corlette again. The last little story I did was Lloyd confessing his feelings because I was in that headspace but now I am ready to tackle their meeting and Corlette saving from her little cult endeavors.
We are talking about sacrificing and death a little bit and organized religion.
SPEAKING OF RELIGION! I am NOT attempting to bad-mouth organized religion, I am not making a statement about religion or the Christian system, any parallels are simply because the most well-known nuns are often linked with the Christian faith. Whereas I am not religious and have no history with faith in general,  but if you are Religious in any regard and do not like the fact that I will be writing about a cult that makes mention of a fictional god (Literally a god I have made up) and uses a system similar to the sisterhood of nuns that often found in Christianity that may do some human sacrificing, you can make your exit, I write this is good-faith and dispute not talking a religious class in college I have taken a class on Serial Killers, and we briefly touch on murdering cults, so this isn’t even a one to one of Religious cults.
Anyway, sorry for the long note, please enjoy!
“Do not mess with my girls!”
It sounds quite predatory coming from a man of a religious cloth who is much older than a large percentage of his body of worship. Especially when the “my girls” is how you refer to the nuns.
But it’s also more than that. He’s not telling Lloyd to stay away from the cloister, Father Laurent is telling the green ninja to stay away from one nun specially.
Sister Clover or Corlette Esper.
The bisque-skinned woman around his age, with thick green hair that flows out of her headdress. The only nun taking care of him ever since he ended up on the steps of the church injured from whatever battle he had just escaped.
Hah! Don’t mess with Corlette. Oh, that sounds like a challenge, and Lloyd is up for a little challenge, while in the house of what is looking more in more like a cult.
Simply because meeting her was interesting enough to want to continue knowing. She was gentle and soft, tending to him with such care, engaging in light banter with him as he watched her wrap his wounds, inquiring about his odd scars and seeming willing to listen to his stories. Yet, she often looked dejected and sad.
Now here he is a few weeks since arriving laying in the grass of a darkening courtyard after learning some interesting things from Zane. Replaying his conversation with the ice nindroid over and over in his head.
“They are worshipping a god that is known for curing illness and the being creation of medicine. Yet, reports since the merge about the cathedral of Vesperine indicate that they are displaying more extreme cult-like tendencies.”
“What are you saying, Zane? They are sacrificing people?” Lloyd asked over the phone.
“Individuals in the area have gone missing,” Zane replied.
“So, I should get out of here as soon as possible,” Lloyd remarked.
Zane hummed in agreement, “Sora, Arin, Nya, and myself are traveling to your location as we speak, we’ll be there tomorrow.”
Lloyd’s suspicions, along with jokes made to Corlette in private of nunnery’s little library over history books, are now true and it leaves a bad taste in his mouth.
“Do you often sleep in the grass?”
Lloyd opened his eyes looking at Corlette as she stood over him, her voice so tender and quiet.
“I wasn’t sleeping,” he replied sitting up.
“You fooled me,” she giggled, sitting down next to him, “what’s bothering you?”
“How tied are you to your religion?” he asked.
Corlette sighed, “If you asked me before I met you, I would have said I was devoted,” she muttered, “I… I don’t know anymore.”
“Do you want to leave?”
“I…I…”
“Because you can! You can leave, Corlette you may not realize it, but Laurent is disgusting and whether you worship Vesperine or not you should not be near that man!”
“So, if I leave where do I go?” She asked him in a whisper, “The church is all I have!”
“You could come with me,” Lloyd replied quickly, “I’ve already taken in a gaggle of teens, that me and the others are training now. We could always use an herbalist.”
“You make it sound so easy,” Corlette scoffed.
“Because it can be easy!”
“Lloyd,” Corlette sighed shaking her head.
“Corlette, I leave tomorrow! If what I suspect is going on is actually going on you are in danger, and neither Vesperine nor I going to be able to help you!” Lloyd verbalized harshly, “If you come to the monastery with me, I can protect you, all of us can! You can still worship Vesperine if you want to, hell, you can continue to wear the nun habit for all I care! But if you still here—”
“Stop,” Corlette muttered, “Please.”
He stops rambling, looking at her and seeing the melancholy expression, “I’m sorry,” he muttered.
“You’re not the issue,” she remarked, “I just… I can’t leave… not yet.”
“Then promise me something,” he replied.
Corlette sighed, “What?”
“If things start going sideways, or if you want to leave, give me a call,” Lloyd instructed.
“I promise,” she declared, “I wouldn’t think of calling anyone else.”
That was it,  they went their separate ways for the night, only to see one another the next morning when standing in front of the church.
“Are you sure you don’t want to come with us?” Lloyd asked, “You can just jump on the Bounty with me and just leave.”
Corlette shook her head after looking around to make sure no one was listening in, “It would be better right now if I stayed here,” she replied.
“My offer still stands, always,” he remarked.
“I’m aware,” Corlette commented, “Your children, look like they need you.”
Lloyd looked behind his shoulder, seeing Sora, Arin, Nya, and even Zane staring at him from the ship all looking in different directions when he stared back at him.
“Call me if you’re in trouble,” he stated, handing her a small piece of paper with his number scrambled on it.
It comes out like a soft demand something that Corlette must do, as if she has no choice.
Corlette nodded, “I would think of calling no one else.”
It was odd saying goodbye, “I’ll see you again, Lloyd.”
He nodded before turning to get on the bounty.
“Is she the new Harumi?” Nya joked once he got settled.
“No,” Lloyd scoffed shaking his head, “She just took care of me while I was there.”
“Does she have healing powers?” Arin asked.
“No, but she’s a very talented herbist,” Lloyd commented.
Nya stared at him for a moment, “what?”
“You have a look on your face.” She replied.
“What face?”
“You’re worried…”
As Corlette watched the bounty travel out of view, she sighed, feeling more separated from all the people here than she had ever had merge or not, she wasn’t like anyone here. Once she was standing in her sorrow she turned, now face to face with Father Lament.
“Father,” she gasped jumping at his closeness, “Sorry I wasn’t aware you were behind me.”
“Sister, I wish to perform a baptism on you,” he said simply.
“Father, but I’ve already been baptized,” she replied cautiously.
“Will you follow me?” Lament asked.
Corlette followed him carefully before being led to a small room with only a white dress laid out on the small bed in the corner of the empty room, and a landline phone on a side table, “Father?”
“Change, and we can perform your baptism,” he stated.
“But I—” the door was shut behind her before she could finish her sentence.
Corlette instantly went for the phone trying her best to be as quiet as possible, using the piece of paper that had been crumbled in her hand, “Hello?”
“You were right,” Corlette huffed in a hushed tone.
“Corlette?”
“I should have left with you! Father Lament says he wants to baptize me, but I’ve been baptized, there is something wrong!”
“Hang in there we’re turning around!”
“Please I’m sort—”
To Lloyd, it sounded like she was hit before the line went dead, “ZANE, TURN AROUND!”
“Lloyd!?”
“TURN AROUND,” he yelled, “Corlette’s in trouble!”
“Corlette?” Nya asked.
“The nun! That cult is I-I-I don’t fucking know, but we have to get back there!” Lloyd raved.
“Alright! Alright!”
On the land of the church is a large and deep lake, now as the skies darken, stands the clergy on one side of the lake and Lament and Corlette on the pier on the other side. The light spring dem and willow green-haired girl with her long-pointed ears and hands tied behind her back as Father Lament preached.
“Corlette the heretic!”
“Corlette the sinner!”
“Corlette the traitor!”
“Sister Corlette the nonbeliever!”
“I AM NOT A TRAITOR!” Corlette screamed struggling against her binds, “I’VE DONE NOTHING BUT WORSHIP VESPERINE FOR YEARS, I GREW UP HERE! I’M NOT A HERETIC!”
Lament pulled the back of her hair, “Then why were you getting friendly with the blonde boy?”
“YOU ASKED ME TO TAKE CARE OF HIM!”
“Taking care of the boy and flirting with him are completely different things,” he whispered.
“I didn’t—AAH!”
“Corlette!” Lloyd yelled.
She looked at the green ninja with such fear in her eyes as she stood on the pier captive.
“Lloyd, are we going to attack a group of nuns?!” Arin asked, as all the nuns watching looked behind their group seeing the ninja, battle-ready.
“… I don’t know,” Lloyd huffed, “just don’t hurt anyone… too bad if it gets too bad.”
“Prevent those heathens from preventing our ceremony!” Lament ordered before the nuns attempted to attempt to grab the ninja.
“BY VESPERINE’S GRACE AND FORTUNE, THE HERETIC SHALL BE THROWN IN THE WATER! IF SHE SHALL SWIM—”
“Lloyd! I’m sorry!” Corlette pleaded after he elbowed a nun in the ribs.
“Why are you apologizing!” Lloyd scoffed running towards the pier, “None of this is your fault!”
Corlette attempted to speak, to justify her apology, yet Laurent pushed her in the lake and of course, Lloyd jumped in after.
“Lloyd jumped in the lake!”  Sora exclaimed.
“What?!”
“LLOYD JUMPED IN THE LAKE!”
Zane, Arin, Sora, and Nya were more focused on the lake, as the nuns and Laurent began burning down the church. Lloyd soon popped out of the lake arm around Corlette dragging her out of the lake. Get her to the bank of the river letting her heave and cough while staring at the grass below her knees.
Lloyd sat beside her heaving, “The church,” he huffed, “Nya, Zane! It’s on fire!”
Nya and Zane tried to stop the fire from spreading as Lloyd continued to stare at Corlette, staring at her hair, the little dark green hair stuck to her face.
“Your hair… is gorgeous,” he sighed.
Corlette began laughing which of course made Lloyd laugh, and they both laughed for a while before Corlette laughter turned into crying leaning against Lloyd as she cried. After the fire was controlled, Corlette went to what used to be her room grabbing the few of her personal belongings that were not burned.
She left with Lloyd and the others still in that stupid white gown, for her sacrifice. Late in the evening, she sat on the deck on the bounty alone, legs close to her chest, staring at the floorboards.
“Corlette,” Lloyd asked softly draping a blanket over her shoulders, “Do you want to change?”
“No.”
He said down next to her, “Are you alright?”
“…no…”
“Would you like to talk about it?”
Corlette hugged herself, “I was one of his favorites,” she began making Lloyd cringe, “I guess... I thought… I don’t know what I thought! You really screw things up for me!”
He knows that she’s not angry, “I’m sorry,” he apologized, nonetheless.
Corlette giggled, “you are very charismatic,” she sniffled, “and you did save me, thank you!”
“You don’t have to thank me.”
The ex-nun rested her head on Lloyd’s shoulder, “Can you promise me something?” she asked quietly.
“Mhm?”
“Promise you will always save me.”
“Promise.”
He replied quickly, quicker than he probably should have, yet he intended to keep that promise for the rest of his life.
