hey Triveally true, i thought up a new chess move. here's how it works. the pawn and the bishop declare each other to be buddy cops like in a buddy cop movie, and go on a rampage. here's how it works. in order to set it up the pawn and bishop must be next to each other. then you have to declare the move, which takes one turn and wastes your turn. in this turn the pawn and bishop are getting to know each other, forming a bond. then you can take other moves but when you finally want to use the buddy cop pawn and bishop you take another turn for them to "get their arsenal ready", basically imagine them picking out a lot of guns from the locker in a montage. if either of them gets taken during this whole period you're screwed. but if they both live they become a special piece, the pawn-bishop, which moves as a unit. it moves like the queen and takes pieces on either square. it can also fire a "blasting attack" where basically you imagine the two cops standing back to back and firing their guns at all the bad guys in a circle, firing all their guns and emptying their cache of bullets. this blasting attack kills EVERY PIECE adjacent to the pawn or the bishop, takes them all out at once, but then they retire and you lose both the pawn and bishop from the board.

do you think this would be a good edition to the game of chess? I can come up with more chess moves.

i was originally going to give a joke answer to this but the more i think about it the more compelled i am.

so you can force creation of this piece pretty quickly - if you spend the first three moves playing g3, Bg3, and then declaring, you can basically guarantee the creation of a new queen. technically Nf6 Nh5 puts your opponent in a position to counter by capturing on g3, but if you throw in e3 or e4 before you declare, your opponent is forced back. i think it's optimal for them to just immediately declare their own across from you and trade.

this makes the optimal opening something like

g3 1... g6 2. Bg2 2... Bg7 3. Declare 3... Declare 4. BCxg6 4... hxg6 5. b3 (start making the other one) and so on

but lets assume you don't immediately trade everything, maybe you duck the trade by playing 4. BCf3/f4 and play continues from there.

i'm assuming capturing either piece after it's declared captures both, which is a weakness for sure, but being able to control so much of the board is kind of oppressive. one consequence of this is you can checkmate the enemy king alone with only a "single" piece - you can do the rook-stacking trick with just the buddy cop pair.

since the presence of these on the board is so powerful, i think you'd see them traded off in the earlygame most games. but i can't really say for certain.

Continuous rainfall has caused severe disruptions on the Old Hindustan Tibet NH-5 in Shimla and Kinnaur districts, leaving numerous vehicles stranded along the highway. Media reports have confirmed that heavy boulders, mud, and landslides have hit NH5 at Baroni in Kinnaur and Kheneri in Shimla district. While a bridge on NH-5 managed to escape a massive landslide, the water observatory on the bridge and NH5 were blocked by a substantial amount of debris and boulders, partially obstructing the flow of water in the Baroni Khud. The landslides and uprooted trees have completely cut off road communication between Shimla and Kinnaur districts, and restoration efforts are expected to take several days. The district administration has issued an orange alert for the next two days as incessant rainfall continues to disrupt roads and footways in the region.
