You were looking at Negan with new eyes. "Alpha or Beta could have just killed you on sight. I don't understand why you risked that."

He gave you a small smile and stretched his long, lean legs out toward the fire. "You've gotta have some hunch by now, doll."

You gulped. Maybe. "I—I didn't think you knew how to be selfless."

He chuckled a bit, his hazel eyes crinkling at the corners. "Oh, it wasn't completely selfless. Helping Alexandria was a convenient side-effect," he said. "I was trying to save somebody I care about... and maybe impress them a little bit."

You gave him a perceptive look and the softness in his eyes surprised you.

"Did it work?" he asked, hopefully.

"Mmm. Perhaps a little..."

"Hell yeah! I'll take it."
