Why did it seem like he always escaped Wonderland by the skin of his teeth?

It was like waking up from a nightmare, every time.  Lea always half-expected to feel the jolt of being thrust forcefully from the dream to wakefulness (that was normal, right?), so in a way Wonderland was even weirder for the absence of that.

Anyway.  Just confirmed he was awake, really.  And it was odd how much this kind of thing felt just like a finished mission from back in the day–in this case Lea might actually have taken the Gummi ship over the portals, but then he probably would not have made it out.  That queen, man.  So he strode out just as if he wasn’t running for his life less than a minute ago and stretched.

“I’m s’what?”

A yawn, and then Lea stared in growing chagrin.  At first he didn’t seem to have anything to say, swiveling from Roxas to look at the (suddenly way too large) rest of the room, with a look on his face like he might scurry right back out of sight like a startled mouse.  Ah dammit.  He knew exactly what was to blame for this.  He’d have to find that frigging rabbit’s house again.  Meantime, he looked back at Roxas and blinked.

“Been eatin’ your vegetables, huh?”

And Lea was no exception.  Even with a heart, it was so hard to let go, to just sob, and instead his arms were tightly around himself to prevent that--muffle it into short jerks and the hand affixed hard to his temple.  It’s not like he has the right to cry about this stuff, the right to...

Lea looked up sharply, stricken.

“R-Roxas, oh--I-I uh...”  More words risked a breakdown, especially since Roxas was at the core of so much, and Lea instead concentrated on palming the tears away with a sniff.  “Didn...hear you come in.  Sorry.”

And a penetrating guilt for the inadequacy of that one word.  Sorry.

"You look kinda tired, so give it up and stay home today. Sound good?"

“But…” There’s no use arguing and she knows it. “Fine but only because I know you’ve already made up your mind about me staying.” Otherwise, she would insist on doing differently.

((Saix/Isa prides himself on his personal honesty, and by extension, on being very self-aware. Birth By Sleep’s character profile describes Isa as “self-possessed,” and this is true even through adulthood. Saix is very aware of his strengths, and very aware of the objectively evil nature of many of his actions. He takes full responsibility for all of his choices, never acting until he’s fully examined the truth and the consequences of what he’s considering.

The one place where Saix is a little blind is in overestimating his intellectual abilities. Saix/Isa is extremely intelligent, and he’s arrogant about it, but he isn’t as good at understanding subtleties or reading between the lines as he likes to think he is. His own sense of logic is incompatible with emotional reasoning so he struggles to follow behavior that isn’t logical. This is how Xemnas is able to dupe him into Nort-hood; by playing on Saix’s pride in his deductive abilities to place red herrings in front of him and lead him in circles without Saix realizing.

But aside from that, Saix/Isa is very self-aware and straight-forward about his nature.))
