Lately I'm being reminded that HotD discourse consists mostly of 'yassss queen slay Rhaenyra' with a smaller side of 'Alicent my queen' and heated arguments about who is the legitimate heir to the throne. Which I think very much misses the point that legitimacy is not A Thing That Exists, it's merely a constructed excuse and justification for whoever has the strongest military power. And focusing the discussion on who is 'right' and who is 'better' and all of that is trying to shoehorn black and white morality on a story that's deliberately avoiding that; and also that the more complex and questionable a character is, the more compelling they are.
