everyone through the generations knew of xiao’s preference for solitary.

you would be considered lucky if you had the chance to even get a glimpse of him slaying the monsters that roamed liyue. he made it a point to make his appearances quick and easy, as he was contracted to do.

because of this, xiao thinks he prefers the night.

there is less opportunity for idling eyes to watch his every move, enemies least expect ambush when it’s dark, and the drop in temperature keeps his temper in check.

it wasn’t as if xiao was truly a human vessel– he didn’t need the vitamin-d that mortals required. he would spend much of daylight under the shade of wangshuu inn’s rooftop, ready for action if his name was ever carried through the wind.

but… there was one thing about the night that xiao loathed.

night was prime time for his karmic debt to be at its loudest. it lurked through the shadows, clouding his peripherals during battles. his fingers would tremble at its deafening buzz that could last for hours upon hours.

still, xiao stood strong. he endured it for all of his friends that he had lost along the way, he endured it for his loyalty to morax and his contract, he endured it for the love he had for liyue and their people.

the sun had just barely begun to rise on a particular day where the shadows were lurking too close, the buzzing too unbearable. xiao could have played it off well, if not for the minute crinkle of his forehead to show his distress. he clutched the mask on his hip briefly before making his usual seat under wangshu inn’s rooftop shade.

he hadn’t expected to hear footsteps begin to ascend his way not long after, recognizing them immediately to be that of yanxiao.

xiao briefly made eye contact with the cook before staring straight ahead, allowing yanxiao to step around him and place a dish of almond tofu on the balcony. considerably farther than where xiao was seated, and out in the rising sunlight no less.

yanxiao offered a sheepish half smile at xiao’s inquisitive and unwavering stare.

“verr and i are worried about you, xiao,” he treads cautiously, but with firm countenance. “you have been out for countless nights without rest. your skin is starting to turn gray.”

xiao knows his skin can’t turn gray, and he is seconds from refuting yanxiao’s concerns as just being in his imagination. but, he falters when yanxiao bows, back completely straight. a show of undoubted respect and sincerity.

“please eat this, xiao. and, please get some time in the sunlight as well. for me, and for verr,” yanxiao requests, lifting his head. he doesn’t wait for a response from xiao, understanding that he is his own person who can make his own decisions. and at this time of the day, xiao needs his peace to think.

yanxiao offers one last look at xiao before descending, and he’s pleased to see xiao begin to get to his feet. with a quiet sigh, yanxiao heads off.

xiao’s amber eyes squint slightly at the sun that is beginning to rise over liyue. “i will,” he answers yanxiao’s concerns, with no one there to hear it.

he take his time to step into the light, closing his eyes briefly in reprieve. the shadows were disappearing, and the buzz was beginning to fade off into the sound of early-risen birds.

as he begins to eat his almond tofu basked under the warm and all-encompassing sunny rays, xiao comes to the conclusion that in moments like these, he thinks he prefers the day.

ooh, it's a holiday for you guys!! :0 !! let's just assume there's no classes by default ehe <3

i strive to achieve a day where i can laze around and just curl up in bed. it's a sort of calming and relaxed feeling i like :D

itto and childe mains in windtrace are a different level of amusement. i remember being hunter once using kujou sara and this one guy who used itto was just circling me ajkhdkfj but they're very sweet <33 ayato !!! hhh i want him too but i'm still saving for kazuha and ayaka :( you'll get ayato, we can drag him to make sure >:)

and yes, xiao came home!!! :DD barely, actually. he came home when it was legitimately like, 1 hour or less remaining on his banner. i was like "wait pls i'm at 79 pity" and xiao decided to come home on my 80th pull, haha! if i hadn't reached pity at 40 before, i probably wouldn't have gotten him (i lost 50/50 to my first qiqi when i was at 40 pity last time; been grinding throughout xiao's banner after it)

ooh, looks like you have lots to draw :0 !! take your time, you can do it!! >:) a 90 minute nap sounds lovely, it reminded me of the time i slept throughout the whole afternoon out of exhaustion once (slept at 1pm, woke up at like 5pm) maybe exhaustion crept up on you? or you felt relaxed to the point you dozed off? well, either way, i hope it placed you in a nice mood <3 oh, and go get some water, please!! :0 !!

and yess I get you! taking naps and just lazying around all day >>>> it's one of the best feelings fr <3 and omg pls the windtrace event gave me sm anxiety oof- especially being the hunter aaaaaaa I'm soo bad at hunting I swear where are you guys hiding :"( this one time my capture control wasn't working and sayu kept running around me in circles and I was just standing there like uhhhh🧍🏻‍♀️pls ayato has bewitched me since day one, I'm soo intrigued oml I hope his design lives up to all our expectations :3

OOHhh!! I'm glad xiao came home!! I hope you have lots of fun playing with him! did you prepare for him in advance? also omg a very similar thing happened to me on kazuha's banner (had him gauranteed because I too lost to qiqi around 30?) kaz showed up soo late and I almost gave up aaaaa but hands down kaz is one of the most fun characters to play with! his E is soo FUNNNN AAAAAAAA also also his Japanese va is the same as suna and I just HAD to get him for that reason hahaha I've spent hours just listening to him talk and going thru his voicelines, that voice does sumn to me aaaaaa I hope you get him!! I'm gonna try my luck on ayaka's rerun too because cryo women >>>

also yes hahahah I think I was just tired and relaxed both when I took a nap yesterday, one of the best naps I took omg I remember I was listening to this playlist a moot of mine made for me and it was just soo calming, I fell asleep watching the blue sky and leaves move outside of my window,, I hope I get to experience more moments like this and I hope you get to as well <3

also rimi I loove talking w you sm! conversations just flow soo easily when it's w you and I fr think that if we ever met in real life or were friends in real life we'd laze around the bed together and talk about everything and anything, whenever I write out my msgs to you I always imagine it to be like this <3 ily and adore you and I'm glad we're friends!!
