I literally did that animatic in a day- partially to practice freehand drawings/storyboarding and partially bc the MWTK song pandering/propaganda grabbed me by the throat and dragged me over to my tablet

do you think there was a sense of homesickness throughout the years ?

did jake and elwood miss the orphanage, always go back to it in their minds and reminisce about it during stateville ?? did they see factories in the distance and think of the orphanage ? did they see a shitty little prison chapel and get reminded of sister mary ? did they want to come home, want to revisit the orphanage and be nothing but those two naughty little children again ? did they see an old janitor or a guard with a kind face and think of curtis ? did they wish some nights to go down to the basement and listen to music with him, to learn with him once more ?? what about the band ?

what about their minds and jake's during the court case when elwood got the longer sentence ? did they look over at him, did they feel sad ?? did jake feel guilty even though it wasn't his sentence ? did he overthink it ? what happened in those first few years in stateville ?? did the years end up blurring together and did it become home to them ? did jake and elwood stick together throughout it and did jake write ? was there any suspicion around his death ?? did camille ever find out or is she still looking, is she still out there waiting for him like elwood was when he left stateville ?

of course elwood felt guilty, but was there ever a time where the guilt left and he thought 'i started this, it's only fair i stay in longer' and did he ever forget who he was ?? were there times where he zoned out for weeks on end, maybe for years and one day looked in the mirror and realised he was changing, that time wouldn't stop and he shouldn't be waiting for it ?

did elwood feel at home again in the hospital, getting smacked by mother mary and talking to her in person ?? did it feel like he was a kid again being sent up to her office for setting something on fire or not paying attention, only this time it wasn't something he could apologise for or take back - even though he completed his task and the orphanage closing was years later - did he feel the need to apologise over and over again for what he did ?

and did she ever get overwhelmed ? did she get overwhelmed during the swap from sister to mother, from the little orphanage director in calumet city to the hospital director in chicago ? were there nights she missed curtis and missed the orphanage, missed the children, missed jake and elwood ?? did she ever cry ? did she ever go back to calumet city ?

did she see jake and elwood in buster when he came along, when he got into trouble for the same things and had the same attitude of jake when threatened and the same mannerisms as elwood when left alone ?? is that why she thought elwood would be the best influence to him ? did mother mary hesitate to call the cops because she knew buster was in safe hands and knew this would happen ?? did she chase after them with the others just to see how they were doing, held her tough front to scare them into not getting into that much trouble again ? was she scared she would lose them and they would lose each other ? was mother mary drafting another 'angels have dirty faces' letter when she heard elwood's charges and how far he'd taken everything ?

did mother mary feel the same as elwood in the sense that it was just them, that everything was gone and they only had each other ? was she so quick to yell at elwood because she would've broken down too ?? how she was much more defensive than she was in the first movie. there she was vulnerable and explained everything, told them she was worried and ended up guilt tripping them because she didn't know what else to do. in the second movie, she was harsher and more defensive, angry like elwood was. did she miss the orphanage and calumet city and joliet and curtis and jake an was it hard for her to look at cab and buster because of it ?

im feeling an analysis coming on again but it's another "to be loved is to be changed" how r we feeling abt buster analysis

okay, this started from thinking about if there was a part 2 to blues brothers private that had details and backstories of the new characters like mack, cab and buster, then i got to thinking, how would cab backstory go ?? how does he react to things and how does curtis still have such a big presence in 2k if he's only mentioned like twice ??? [and obvs besides the fact that cab is his son]

okay, so i deff think cab has pent up emotions, stress, just overall some underlying issue growing up in a military family with everything set out for him beforehand- he just had a straight path to follow and it was disrupted. when he's singing about it in john the revelator, it really comes out that his life was set out for him and he was probably sheltered growing up, not feeling all these intense emotions properly because of moving around, becoming a cop and going after defense jobs like his father had done because everything was so straight out; there was right and there was wrong and there was nothing inbetween until he met elwood. maybe that's why he was so defensive when he first found out everything in the beginning of the movie because it's like, how dare you just burst in and ruin everything like this ???

aaaaand we return to john the revelator when cab's singing about how his life used to be. "my life was always so easy, everything was black and white" proves he probably was living this perfect life, growing up not having to worry about anything and just continuing in his father's footsteps because it seemed like the only logical thing to do. everything was straightforward and black and white. right, wrong, no inbetween until elwood came in. that's when he's experiencing everything intense, all these new, harder hitting and louder emotions coming in with this dude who apparently knows more about his family than he does.

then the second half of that lyric come in. "and now i see all the colours of all the day and all the night." the colours are the emotions, the band, the music all flooding in and overwhelming him, and cab rethinking his ethics and everything he stood for when he meets the blues brothers. if everything was right and wrong, how was elwood inbetween ? how was he doing seemingly the right stuff but getting in trouble for it ?

he no longer had the easy way out after meeting elwood and was starting to realise it, especially with the line "the air was always so gloomy, everything was dull and grey" maybe before elwood he was starting to get bored of being a cop and that's when the beginning of the confusion started ? everything being dull and grey being the empty sacrifices and climbing up the ladder to be successful but it only landed him a new title, it started to feel less and less important. the gloominess was curtis reaching through, the parts of curtis in him that hated this every day never ending race to the top and wanted something more bright, wanted a change and the music, the colours to come back. that look in his eyes for a split second when he's on the phone to his mother is curtis, it's the familiarity and then disappearing as quick as it arrived. the divine intervention scene in the tent was curtis telling him something, giving him the uniform and going through cleophus to show him that there was another way to live and a destiny he could fulfill that was for him.

curtis was absolutely present in 2k, the one making cab personally chase after elwood, the one showing him all this new emotion, behind the band, cleophus and elizondo's raging spirit on catching the band.

the night before the battle of the band was definitely something, some paranormal experience was definitely had when elwood, mack and cab were frozen after funky nassau, and u can tell during the battle of the bands that jake and curtis are there, they're in the air and playing with the band, which was conjured the night before after funky nassau. when they were under queen mousette's control, they didn't have control of themselves and were frozen immediately after. i think there's gotta be something happening similar to the ghostbusters comics where jake has influence on ray's mind and can warp his surroundings and manipulate dimensional planes. he gives him messages through that and the dreams as well as keeping gozer in line.

jake was doing that the night before the battle of the bands, talking to elwood, cab and mack in the realm with curtis and talking to them, telling them something big was happening, that their moment was coming up. the magic that'd existed and helped them keep up in the first movie is coming back and giving the band [mainly elwood] the strength to go on without jake and continue running, playing, never letting them be taken alive. it was all jake and curtis.

blues brothers 1 was the magic of elwood influencing jake, jake's story and conflicts. he's reluctant and angry at elwood in the beginning of the movie for lying about the band and the bluesmobile and everything, but cleophus shows up and that's when the magic really kicks in and jake starts to believe. blues brothers 2000 was elwood's story with jake influencing him, the magic coming through jake this time. in the beginning of 2k, elwood's angry at everyone leaving him and while buster gets the magic starting with the bluesmobile and proving being tougher than elwood, buster, cab, mack, jake and curtis keep it going.
