+Another project I had in Sweden has been completed. We collaborated with the Swedish heritage brand Svenskt Tenn in creating our first line of scented candles. Meeting their creative director, I was gifted eight books on their founder Estrid Ericson and one of their best designers in Josef Frank to conceptualize the creative direction of this project. Since she past in the 80s, the company was left to a foundation, effectively restricting their sales to their original sole store location in Stockholm and svenksttenn.se. To ensure their quality they limit the release of their beautiful textile designs that are in Swedish design museums and registries that came out of the functionalist movement of the 20s and 30s to something truely unique. I came up with the concept, name, story on the back of the box, David Monsen executed the design, and Woland Societe set it up with the wood note scent! One particular point I was proud of, Josef Frank during the war went to NYC to escape Nazism and inspired by the city made a now iconic line of map based designs. Through abstraction, I incorporated into our design (they don't know this) Alani Cruz`s home in NYC and the location in Nakano that me, him, Slim Tikini Pickens, and Reuben Cape met Wolf and Biola Kadiri Fischer at Heavy Sick Zero that began our own journey from Tokyo in 2008. That meant a lot to me and was just dope to work with a company whose values, original design aesthetics, and history I respect…available at Svenkst Tenn and soon online~
