Title: The Acquaintance "A story about the new relations between Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and the modern health operators. In 2010, the government of Uganda banned the practice of TBAs but they still operate deep in the villages. This work documents the life of 91-year-old Masa, one of the few village midwives in Bududa district on the slopes of Mt. Elgon who are now referring their patients to the hospitals for safer deliveries and maternity care. I believe the story needs to be told as this new connection is saving the lives of mothers and babies in this mountainous area where access to modern health services has been a challenge over the years." #worldpressphoto #everydayafrica #everydayeverywhere #mtelgon #uganda @agencynative
