Mourosel flocks to motherly love the way magpies flock to jewels: instinctually, desperately, cunningly.
Of course, it was nothing more than innocent curiosity at first. An experiment of sorts. He’d always wondered how such love would have changed him. Would he be kinder or more wicked? Calmer or burning with insatiable rage? Happy? Or just as empty as he always has been.
He quickly found that mere curiosity wasn’t enough.
Playing the part of mentors, confidants, even enemies, had been plenty fun until the monotony of mortal life invoked in him a boredom so strong it crushed him. He is tired of hearing the same stories over and over again, the changes between one and the other too minute to mean anything.
By the time he finds Delores, his fingers twitch with need for some fun.
He poses as animals at first—timid foxes hiding in bushes, happy crows pecking at windows, lazy elks blinking from the shadows—and quickly grows to revel in the feeling whenever Delores brings him food and leaves him gifts. She coos at him from a distance, as she does with all the animals who’ve made a home of the forest, but he is the only one daring enough to approach her, to let her pat his head and feed him from the palm of her hand.
His curiosity has been sated long ago; now all he feels is hunger.
It was an easy decision, starting the fire. Delores would have never struck that deal with him otherwise, would have never accepted him as her child. He feels no guilt at stealing her other children from her; he was always going to give them back, if a little different, a little distant, changed in a way he knows makes her squirm.
She doesn’t need them. Not anymore. Not with him around to keep her plenty busy.
“Hello, mother.”

yeah so i don’t really know what this is if im honest i couldn’t sleep last night and i got an itch to write and for some reason this is what happened. it’s probably wildly far removed from canon bc listen… it was well past midnight and i was sleepy and couldn’t even remember how to spell mourosel’s name (and if im honest im still not 100% sure i got it right) but nonetheless enjoy a result of my immense sword af brainrot !!
