time is ample, & passing time is tedious — though, that is arguably & undeniably, partly his own doing. time can pass as tediously as it does, & it is still near’s preference. there is something in the chill press of tile against his body’s cloth, something about the long suffocated triumph of having designed the light in this space to suit his craving of blue. desaturated blue. tinted blue. his pick of blue that designates the space as his own.

headquarters / his quarters are relentless by sight, & they are consistent because of it. reliable. well designed. though . . . his space is ( essentially ) a refrigerator, a cryogenic chamber made to preserve the patterns of thought that make near brilliant. though, that is also arguably & undeniably -

unimportant. & relative.

. . . excess conversation & extrapolation is unwanted. it’s unnecessary. so dismiss the design of headquarters & instead ? a skeleton’s finger comes to wrap around a lock of too long hair, to twist, to trace neural network connections of what should be suspended surprise.

more mythology. breathing mythology. supernatural deaths that sprayed bloody red. brutal, yes. by definition. & not necessarily brilliant. the attacks are little more than a glorified temper tantrum . . . but the laws are different. the rules are different. that makes the game worth playing.

so he smirks, playfully smug in expression with faux amicability. the lilt in his lips is waxen & melts absently. ‘ cases involving rogue runaways can so easily . . . become uninteresting. ‘

asmodeus was the child that grew up thinking his mother was the most beautiful woman in the entire world. he grew up believing that she was the reason the moon rose at night and the stars came out, just so they could see her.

now that he’s older, he still feels the same way. his selfishness and vanity aside, he loves his mother more than anything. and though he isn’t likely to admit it, often hates that he’s caused her so much pain over the matter of his daughter.
