Feelings And Phone Calls
Tumblr media
@youngjusticeimaginesus Hi, I was wondering if you could do a Jensen x daughter!reader oneshot where he finds out the her bio mother passed away and when he tells her she breaks down into tears even though shes not sure why cause they were never very close. But nonetheless he comforts her and validates her. And him and Danneel were getting ready for a date but both decide not to go and instead stay and watch movies with their daughter?
Words: none.
Warnings: death, emotions
Jensen hung up the phone with a blank look on his face.  Daneel searched his stare for emotion.
“What’s wrong?”
Seeing that he was unable to form sentences, she guided him from their closet where they were picking out their clothes for the day onto a couch in their room.
“Hey, talk to me.” She remained in his line of vision.
“Umm,” he collected his thoughts. “YN’s mom passed away.”
“Wait, what?” Daneel gasped.  Although they weren’t the best of friends, Danneel had an amicable relationship with her step-daughter’s mother.  Now she is gone.
“What? How? Huh?” Danneel was now short for words, herself.
“I need a minute.” Jensen stood quickly and walked out of the room.  Danneel was left with no information and no way to help her husband.  A few minutes later, Danneel was in the kitchen when he walked back into the house.  She saw dried tears on his face.  He stopped a few feet from her.
“She was killed in a car accident today.  They want me to come identify her body.”
“Oh, Jensen!” Danneel ran to him and wrapped herself around him, making herself as big as she could, even though he was much taller than his wife.
“Yeah.  Look, I need to go so that they can get the process started, however all this works.  YN should be home from practice in a few hours, so don’t say anything yet.”
“Absolutely.  Do you need me to go with you?”
“No.  Thank you.” He kissed her head and cleared his throat.  “I’ll be back.”
Jensen got through the process as quickly as possible, identifying his daughter’s mother and leaving the building before he had time to realize what he was doing. He arrived home, going through the motions, realizing he didn’t know how he got back to his own house.  Jensen checked his phone when he heard it ding once he parked in the driveway.
Danneel
She’s home.
Jensen
Okay. :(
“Hey, princess.” Jensen hugged his daughter when he entered the kitchen.
“Hey, Da-” When she looked up at his face, she stopped.  “What’s wrong?”
“Honey,” Jensen took her hand and guided her to a chair at the table.  “I got a call about your mom.”
“I just saw her for my weekend visit?  What’s up?”
“I got a call from the city.  She was in a car accident.”
“Uhhh…” YN rang her hands.
“She didn’t make it, baby.”
“You’re lying!” She shrieked at her father and pushed him away.  Stomping up the stairs, Jensen watched her go out of view.
“I’m sorry about our date night, but I can’t leave her.” Jensen searched out his wife on the bottom floor of the house.
“We are absolutely NOT going out tonight on our date.  She needs us, no need to apologize.”
Jensen made his way to YN’s room.
“Honey?” He knocked and opened the door.
“I’m okay.” She was huddled in the corner of her bed with her comfort items in her arms.
“It's okay if you’re not.  Let’s not worry about that right now though.  Would you like me to hold you?”
YN started crying for a second time, as evident by her red, swollen eyes.  Climbing into his lap as he sat on her bed, she nodded.
“Come here.” Jensen cradled her as she shook.
Keep it together, Jensen.  Keep it together, he told himself.
“Dee and I are right here, you aren’t alone, kiddo.” He kissed the part in her hair as she continued to sob.

Car Accident
Tumblr media
Warnings: Car accident
Summary: YN Padalecki has to step up when her dad is hurt.
WC- nothing
“Why isn’t he picking up?” YN paced while groaning. She had texted her dad many times that day for various reasons and had not heard back.
All of a sudden, her phone rang, and it her dad’s face displayed on the screen.
“Dad, where have you been, I’ve been try-” she was interrupted.
“He was in a car accident, and he asked me to call you. Your dad is fine, but he asked that you come to the scene. My name is Marcus Train, and I am an EMT.”
“Oh.” YN absorbed the information. “Where is the accident? I’ll will be right there.”
“On Sixth and Mary, in front of Torchy’s Tacos, miss.”
“Be there in 20.” YN thought about her mom and how she was on a camping trip.  No cell service.  Great.  Time to adult, YN.
Jensen called YN until she picked up.
“Have you heard from you da-”
“He was in an accident,” YN answered. “He’s okay though. At least that is what the EMT said. I’m driving to get him.”
“Oh, crap. You alright, kid?”
“Yep.  Gotta go, call you later.”
“Love you,” Jensen responded and hung up.
YN tapped the wheel as she parked on the street a block from the police lights and sirens.
“Excuse me! Marcus Train called me? That’s my dad!” YN shouted over the city sounds. “Dad!” She waved. Jared looked up slowly and smiled but winced, reaching up to hold his face. An EMT discouraged him from doing so based on the body language.
“Let her through!” YN barely heard a voice in the distance. She ducked under the tape and ran to her dad.
“Hey, baby,” Jared whispered. “I’m okay,” he reassured her. “Where’s Mom?”
“Camping, remember? Your face looks bruised. Does he need to go to the hospital?” YN turned to an EMT nearby.
“No, we have looked him over. He is cleared to go home once he is feeling a little bit better.”
“Okay, thank you. I’m going to call Uncle Jensen. He hadn’t heard from you either, and he was worried.”
“I’ll call him. Give me your phone.”
“Sir, please rest your mouth. Your jaw is very irritated from the airbag.” The EMT stepped into Jared’s view.
“I got it, Dad. Be right back,” she calmed the situation. Calling Jensen, she updated him on Jared’s injuries.
YN took her dad home where Jensen met them.
“Can you walk behind him in case he gets wobbly?” YN asked Jensen as the exited the vehicle.
“Of course.” He nodded.  “Hey, bud.  How are ya?”
“Before you get too far into that conversation, the EMT dude says he needs to rest and not talk much.” YN looked to Jensen.
“RIght.  Let’s get you settled.” Jensen reached into the car to grab Jared’s items in a bag that included the shirt the EMTs had to cut off his top half.  He handed the bag to YN before ushering the taller man inside.  “Where do you want to crash, man?”
“I don’t think I can do the stairs, maybe the first floor guest bedroom next to the movie room?”  Jared whined, feeling pain all over his face.
“Got it.” Jensen agreed.  “Did they clear you to sleep yet?” He looked from Jared to YN who trailed behind the men.
“No concussion, thankfully. EMT said it was fine.” YN nodded.
“Awesome.  Call your mom, tell her he is home and safe, yeah?” Jensen kept his eyes on Jared but was talking to YN.  “Bad cell service, but try anyway.”
“On it.  Go to bed, Dad.  I’ll check on you later.”

“Dad,” YN walked into Jensen and Danneel’s master bedroom with a quiet voice.
He knew that softness.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he turned around from the bed, throwing his wallet on the side table.  “What’s wrong?” Jensen noted her tired eyes.
“I am so tired.” YN slumped into the room.  Jensen opened his arms to her.  He accepted her body into his chest and put his head on top of hers.
“Should you go to bed early?”
“Not that kind of tired, Dad.”
He sat down on the couch and patted it.  She nestled into him again.
“What do you mean?” Jensen stroked her back.
“I’m twenty, I have a full time job, I am an essential employee, and we are in the middle of something no one has been through before.  And on top of all that, I’m the one everyone turns to for help because of my job.” YN sighed.
It hit him.  She was grown.  And it scared him.  YN had true adult worries, and she was turning to him to make it better. He felt her grip his unbuttoned flannel and lean into his Henley.
“I’m so sorry, sweetie.” Jensen said, defeated. “I didn’t realize how much this was affecting you.”
“Dad, I can’t even breathe half the time.”
“What do you mean?  Do you need to go to the doctor?”
“I… kind of went to the doctor already.” YN looked up at him. He cocked his head. “I was having panic attacks.  The doctor gave me some anti-anxiety medication.” She leaned into his chest again.
“You have anxiety?  Why didn’t you tell us that you were struggling?” Jensen raised his voice, sounding angry.  YN recoiled. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” He leaned away from her to read her face.  YN couldn’t look at him. “Hey,” Jensen tried to get her attention.  His daughter stood and ran out of the room. “YNN,” Jensen whispered after she left.  He heard her door close down the hall.  “Damn.”
An hour later, YN walked into their movie room.
“Daddy?” YN whispered.  He turned to her.
“Baby, I didn’t mean to-”
“I know.  I just didn’t have the words to tell you. So I wrote this.” YN handed him a letter. “Clif-notes is that yes, I have anxiety.  I’m fine, I’m just stressed out.”
“Come here.” Jensen brought her to sit in the recliner next to him.  “I didn’t know you were under so much stress.”
“No offense, Dad, but you’re not working.”
“I’m not, you’re right.  Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Everyone is under stress right now no matter their situation.  Why should I tell everyone my problems?”
“Well,” Jensen chuckled. “I’m not everyone.  I’m your dad.  I’m never too stressed for you.  I’ll be fine. You know you don’t have to do that job though, right? I can support you until you get into a better environment.”
“Dad, that would be great, but I need to do this.  I don’t want to quit, I’m just stressed, that’s all.”
“PLEASE, for the love of all things, tell me the next time you don’t feel good.” Jensen wrapped an arm around her.
“Okay, Daddy.”

“Jensen,” his manager said on the phone.  “I have a job I think you might be interested in-”
“No, I told you, this summer is mine.  My kids are busy which means I am busy.”
“But this is a really good opportunity-”
“Try listening rather than talking. It works wonders.” Jensen growled into the phone.  “You have me lined up for three other jobs in the next year.  Stop bugging me this summer.  You’ve done your job and I appreciate it, but please stop.”
“Fine, fine,” she sighed.  “See you in a few weeks at dinner.”
“You too.” Jensen hung up.

“I’m sorry,” the police officer offered her condolences.
Jensen turned to his daughter and squeezed her tightly.
The twelve year-old girl buried her face into his chest on the couch.
“You and me will be okay, munchkin,” Jensen whispered to her.
______
One Year Later
Jensen woke to YN snuggled into him in his bed.  He questioningly lifted his head to look her over.
Hmm.
He lay his head back down and fell asleep again.
“Hi, sweetheart.  Why did you decide to join me?”
“Needed snuggles.  I’m sad today,” she rolled over.
“Right,” he remembered his wife on the floor, bloody from falling after experiencing a stroke.  “We should honor her today.”
“How?”
The two spent their Saturday doing Jensen’s wife’s favorite things.  At the end of the day, YN told her dad, “You and me will be okay.”

“Hi, Daddy!”  Theresa, aka Reese, ran into Jensen’s arms.  “You’re home early!”
“Hi, Reesy!  Come here!”
“I missed you, Daddy.”
“I missed you too.”
“Is Jared here?” Reese looked up at Jensen expectantly.
“No, he knew I needed my snuggle bug, so he went home.” Jensen dropped his stuff by the door and walked into the living room with his daughter wrapped around him.  “You wanna watch a movie?”
“YES!”
“Hi, Mr. Ackles.  Wasn’t expecting you til tomorrow,” the nanny walked into the living room.
“Hi, Skye.  Yeah, we ended early.  Weather didn’t cooperate.  Take the night off, I need to have some time with my girl,” he guided Reese to the couch.
“Yes, sir.  Bye, boo.  See ya, kiddo.” Skye walked toward her casita on the back of the property.
“Bye, Skye-Skye!”  Reese waved as she snuggled into the couch.  “Where’s Mommy?”
“Should be home from work soon, I think.  You know she doesn’t get home til later.”
“I want her to watch the movie with us!”
“Maybe she will, baby.  I am going to change into my pajamas before we start the movie.  Choose one for me, okay?” He grinned.  She returned his expression and ran toward the cabinet.
“Okie, Daddy!”
Jensen grabbed his things from the ground by the door and ran up the stairs.  As he was changing, he heard the door squeak open.  Jensen quickly pulled his pants up, thinking Reese had followed him up the stairs.
“Hey, Jay,” his wife sighed, indifferent.
“Hi, honey.  How was your day?” He went to hug her when she turned away from him and dumped her things into a chair.
“Fine.”
“You want dinner?  Skye left us some food from yesterday in the fridge.”
“No, I had a business dinner.  I’m going to bed.”
Jensen watched as she quickly took her makeup off and closed the door between the bedroom and ensuite bathroom.  When she came out, she was in her pajamas.
“What?  You just got home.  The munchkin wants to see you, and we were going to watch a movie.”
“I’m tired, Jensen.  Can you shut the door behind you?” Jensen watched her climb into bed.
“You can’t be serious.”
“Goodnght, Jay.” She turned the light off.
Reese stood in the doorway.
“Is Mommy coming?”
“No, baby.  She’s tired. It’s just us tonight.”
“Does Mommy not like me?”
Jensen’s head snapped down to look at his daughter.
“No, don’t ever think that. Come on, I still have to make our popcorn!”
Jensen threw her over his shoulder and hid his gritted teeth, angry at his wife.  He groaned from Reese landing on his shoulder, hurting his back.  Making up for the mom’s lack of interest in their activities, he spoiled Reese with chocolate and popcorn, letting her stay up a little bit later than usual.
“Okay, bedtime, lovebug,” he whispered.
“Ungh,” she groaned, curling into her dad’s chest, wrinkling his shirt.
“I know, but you have school tomorrow, and I know you’re tired.  You can sleep in your clothes, I don’t care.”
Reese grinned into his shirt.
“You like that idea?” Jensen chuckled.  “Come on,” he slowly carried her upstairs to her room.  “Goodnight, my sweet girl.”
“Nigh-night, Daddy,” she whispered back.
Jensen quietly walked into the master bedroom where he saw his wife sleeping soundly.  He took his phone out of his pocket and plugged it in to charge on the bedside table.
“Goodnight, sweetheart,” he whispered, not expecting a response.
“You too, Jay.” She turned away from him without a loving gesture.
________
The next day, Jensen woke up to Reese climbing on him.
“Good morning, sweet thing!”
“Hi, Daddy.  It’s wake up time! You want to take me to school?”
He grew concerned.  His wife never took their daughter to school since she had to leave early, but where was the nanny?
“Where’s Skye?”
“Making me pancakes!  Can you take me to school? Please?” Reese settled next to him.
Jensen sighed.
“Sure, Reesy.  Let’s get ready.  Go change.”
“Yeah!” Reese scampered off.  The dad chuckled to himself.
When he walked down the stairs after getting ready for the day, he saw the nanny standing in front of the stove.
“Can I have some pancakes?” Jensen asked.
“Well, you hired me, so I think I can do that,” Skye laughed.  Becoming serious, she replied, “Yes, I can do that, Mr. Ackles.”
“Jensen.  Call me Jensen,” he groaned.  “We’ve been over this before, kid,” he told the twenty-three year-old.
“Mr. Ackles, no offense, but I address you like that because I respect you.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you felt so strongly.  That’s fine, just love my kid.  That doesn’t have to be so professional,” Jensen smiled.
“I’ve worked with you for two years.  I love her dearly, you know that.”
_________
A few days later, Jared nudged Jensen’s shoulder.  Jensen almost jumped out of his seat.
“Yeah?” Jensen turned in the makeup chair to look at his TV brother.
“You okay? Daydreaming?”
“Yeah, just thinking.”
“About…” Jared asked.
“Nothing.  YN’s just growing up.  She turns eight next week.  We have our convention, so I won’t be home.”
“We’ve been over this before.  You can’t focus on that.  She’ll have a party, and you’ll be there.”
“I know.  The life we live, I guess.”  Jensen stood up slowly and gingerly walked toward the trailer door.
“DUDE! I didn’t hurt you that bad!” Jared laughed.
“Ran with Jason yesterday.  Back is killing me.”
“Oh, yikes.  Sorry, brother.”
“Yeah, I’ll get over it.”
_________
Jensen walked out of the master bedroom holding his left arm with his right.  As he went into the movie room, he put his hands to his sides.  Jared looked at him with a questioning expression and then asked what they were going to watch.  His friend responded with a shrug.
“What has gotten into you? We were going to watch the game, a movie, Stranger Things, and every time, you don’t seem excited.” Jared leaned forward in his chair.
“What are you talking about?” Jensen crashed into the recliner next to his friend.  “Choose something before I kick you out,” the older one grinned.
“You’re so passive these days.  What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, why are you so curious all of a sudden?  Just turn something on already.”
“You’re acting weird, dude.  Just- tell me if something’s wrong?”
“Will do, Moose.  Now let’s watch something before I fall asleep.”
Weird.
As soon as they started their TV show, Reese came running into the room with a shriek.  Both men sat up.  Reese ran into her dad’s arms.
“What’s wrong?” Jensen pulled her close with urgency.
“Mommy was yelling into the phone.  I could hear her from my room.  What’s wrong?  Did I do something bad?” The girl started sniffling.
“She’s on the phone? It’s really late.” Jensen looked at his watch.
11:00pm.
“Okay.  Here.  Hug Uncle Jared until I get back.”  Jensen laid her on the younger man’s lap.  She cried with uncertainty into her uncle’s flannel shirt.  The dad exited the room and ran up the stairs.
“Babe?” Jensen walked into their room after seeing the light was still on.  He thought she had gone to bed.
She gasped and put the phone behind her back.
“What are you doing?  It’s late, and Reese heard you yelling.  She’s crying on Jared’s lap.  What’s wrong?”  Jensen approached his wife to hug her, but she backed away.  Jensen stopped and tilted his head at her odd reaction to his affection.
“Don’t worry about it, Jay. I’m fine.  Just the underlings at work not doing their jobs,” she growled, defensive.
“What are they doing at the office this late?”
“They’re testing the system since no one is online at this hour, now can you leave?”
“What’s-”
“Just go, please,” she gritted her teeth.
“Oh.  Okay.  You look tired.  I’ll get the kiddo to bed.  You go rest.” He kissed her on the cheek before she could resist again and exited the room.
When he got downstairs, Reese was asleep in Jared’s arms.
“I got her,” Jared said before Jensen could reach for his daughter.  “I’ll tuck her in.”
“Thanks, man.” Jensen clapped his hand on Jared’s back when he returned to watch the movie.
“Everything okay?”
“Not sure.  Kelly has been acting weird.  If this stuff keeps up, I’ll ask her, but I don’t know…”
“You both have been off.”
“Me?”
“Yeah, but can we finish this?  I really want to see this, and my connection is down at my house.”
“You’re such a dufus, Jared.  Yes, let’s watch it.”
________
Jensen’s phone rang.
“Hello?’
Jensen heard gasping.
“Uh.  Hello?”
After a few more gasps, Jensen heard, “Kelly Ann!” His eyebrows scrunched together.
His wife. The sounds increased.  Jensen hung up.  Climbing into his truck after dropping Reese off at school, he sat there for a moment, eyes burning with tears.
Jensen had the neighbor take Reese for the night.  He needed to talk to Kelly.  What was he going to say?  How was he going to say it? Jensen cooked dinner for himself and waited for his wife to come home.
“Hi, Jay,” Kelly sighed, walking in the house.  “Can I have some of that?” She peered over to his plate.
“You’re not going to be hungry after we talk.  Sit down, please,” he stated, serious.
“Umm.  What’s wrong?”
He saw her try to hide her secret, but her red cheeks gave her away.
“Kelly Ann,” he said plainly.  “Is there a reason why I heard a man gasping your name from a butt-dialed phone call earlier today?”
“What?” Kelly’s face turned crimson.
“You haven’t been late because of work, and you weren’t talking to your underlings the other night.  What will I find if I look at your call history?  And let me guess, you butt-dialed me?”
Her face turned from red to a ghostly white.
“I don’t know wha-”
“Yes, you do.  I figured it out.  Now, since you decided to play games, I set up my own.  You will tell Reese that you are not in love with me anymore, and you will move out.  Or, you can gamble, since you like games, and see if I can ever forgive you.  IF you stay, you will go with me to counseling so that we can fix this.  If you choose not to work on our marriage, you can walk yourself through the front door with whatever you can gather in the next five minutes.  And don’t you go running to Jared and Gen either.  They already know,” Jensen seethed.
“What?  Counseling?  You want ME to tell Reese that we aren’t getting along?  This is a two way street, HONEY.”
“You want a metaphor? Your car just crashed into mine in a head-on collision while I was in my lane.  I’ve done everything I can to make you happy. We can pretend that everything is fine for Reese, but you get the guest bedroom.  You gotta be up before her so that she doesn’t suspect anything.  AND- we will be nice to each other.  You’re an actor now too.  Fake it.  Fake that you didn’t just play sheet music with some shit guy who doesn’t care about your family.  Get out of my sight.”
“I have so much dirt on you, Ackles!  I will ruin Reese’s perception of you if you think-”
“You will not, because she has depended more on me than you lately.  She knows she is my princess, and she also knows that you have not paid attention to her.  Reese is not a bargaining chip, so leave her out of this!”
________
Jensen walked into the makeup trailer.  Shawn waited for him to take his SnapBack off. When he didn’t, she raised a brow at him.
“Uh, I gotta do your makeup, Jay. Can you take your hat off?”
“Right, sorry.”
“Your face looks puffy. Not enough sleep last night?”
“Kid was sick.  She and the nanny flew up here so I could see her this week since I haven’t been home in a while.”
“Oh, that’s sweet. Let’s get you ready, huh?  I’ll add a little concealer to hide those dark circles,” Shawn smiled softly.
“Ouch!” Jensen backed away out of reflex when she put the makeup brush on his face.
“What?” Shawn laughed.  She saw the scared look on his face.  “Sorry, Jay,” she pursed her lips.  “Did I hurt you?”
“I’m fine.  Reese poked me near my eye yesterday.  Hurt like hell.” He sighed.  “Kids…”
“You got that right.  Here, I’ll let you use your fingers and spread it underneath your eyes.  Make it easier for you.”
“This stuff dries out my skin!” Jensen whined as he tried to wash the concealer off of his fingers.
“Big baby,” Shawn giggled.  “Here,” she handed him a bottle of lotion.  “It has no scent.  Don’t worry.”
He opened the bottle and squirted some white stuff onto his pointer finger.  After rubbing his hands together and covering his fingers with lotion, he took a deep breath.
“Better, drama queen?” Shawn raised a brow.
“I AM NOT a drama queen, okay?” Jensen growled playfully.
“Whatever.  Go to wardrobe.  They need you.”
He smiled.
“Thanks, Shaw.  Appreciate it.” He kissed her cheek and walked down the trailer steps.
______
Reese noticed that her mom and dad did not converse like they used to. As the days went by, Reese saw her mom withdraw. Kelly couldn’t fake it anymore. Jensen told her what she needed to do. The couple sat Reese down at the kitchen table. Kelly explained that she loved Reese very much, but she and Jensen didn’t love each other anymore. Reese confusedly asked what that meant.
“Mommy is going to live with Gram and Gramps. I’ll still see you lots, but Mommy won’t be living here anymore,” Kelly stated.
“You’re leaving? No, Mommy! You can’t! We have to bake cookies for Christmas! Remember? You promised!” Reese cried hard enough that she was shaking.
Jensen growled in Kelly’s ear, “You did that.” He nodded towards their daughter who stood up from her seat.
“No!” Reese ran in front of her mom’s chair and stopped. She started flailing her body, and she smacked Jensen in the nose, and Kelly in the thigh.
“Don’t react,” Jensen whispered, holding his nose. “Let her get it out.”
Kelly sat there, taking the blows with hands up to protect her face, not verbally reacting to her daughter’s actions.
Reese cried herself to sleep on the kitchen floor.
“I’m sorry,” Kelly turned to her husband.
“The consequences of your actions go far beyond just you, remember that.”  Jensen took a deep breath.  “Get out of my house.” Jensen picked up the little girl to take her to bed.  “I’m done with how you’ve been treating both of us.  You better be gone before I get back down here.”
“Jay-” Kelly tried to stop him.
“No.  You made your choice.  Get out.”
______
One Month Later
“I hate you!”  Reese threw her backpack on the ground and crossed her arms.  “You made her move out!”
Jensen sighed as he rubbed his temples.  He knew she didn’t mean it, but it still hurt.
“I want to see Mommy!”
“I’m about to drive you to go see her!  Pick up your stuff!” The dad became impatient. Reese picked up her Barbie backpack and stamped her feet out to the car.
When they arrived at Reese’s grandparents’ house, she ran to the door and pounded on it with her little fists.
“Jensen,” his father-in-law greeted him.  “She’s destroyed.  Kelly feels really bad.  It doesn’t excuse what she-”
“NOT in front of her, please.”  Jensen ushered Reese into the house.
“You’re right.  Sorry.  We’ll see you in a few days.”
“Is she here?”
“Kelly?  No.  Had to work late.”
“Mhmm.” Jensen sighed, not believing the father.  “I’ll be back to pick her up on Sunday.  She has math homework to finish.”
“Got it.  We’ll take care of it, promise.” Kelly’s dad offered a sad smile.
“Thanks.”  Jensen turned and walked to his truck.
_______
“Hi, Daddy,” Reese huffed.  She walked slowly to his truck so that he could take her back to the house.
“Not excited to see me?” Jensen frowned.
This sucks.
“I don’t like you.  And I don’t like that Mommy lives somewhere else now.  Do I have to go home with you?  Mommy didn’t do anything,” Reese continued to walk toward the vehicle.  Kelly walked up quickly behind her.
“Yes, go with your daddy.  This is Mommy’s faul-”
“Baby, we don’t love each other anymore.  We are friends, but friends don’t live together, Reesy.” Jensen interrupted his wife.
“Why can’t you love each other?  You used to.  It’s my fault.  You can have all my presents!  I’ll tell Santa!” Reese started crying.
“No, Reesy.  Not your fault.  This is Mommy and Daddy’s fault.” Jensen crouched down in front of her.  He kissed her cheek. “Let’s go, sweet pea.”  Jensen took her hand and lifted her into the back seat.  “I’ll drop her off on Friday.  I fly back to Vancouver Saturday.” He turned back to face his wife.  Reese wiped her tears and slouched her shoulders while kissing her mom on the cheek.
“Love you, Mama.”
“Jensen-“
“Don’t. Let me get her buckled in first.”
Jensen lifted the girl into the back seat. He shut the passenger door and then turned to face his wife.
“Yes?”
“Let me come back home.”
“I’ve let you do too many things to me and our princess. No more.” He started to walk away when she slapped him across the face. Hard. Jensen froze. Keeping still as not to react in front of his daughter, he took a deep breath. Kelly turned to look at Reese, taken aback by her own actions. She saw Reese enthralled with Jensen’s phone on her lap.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it!” Kelly shrieked.
“If only it were that easy to excuse behavior. You will not be near her any longer. She will not be exposed to your explosiveness, now excuse me.”
Jensen quickly left Kelly standing on the curb. A small raindrop hit her in the eye, startling her. When she ducked her head and turned to face the house, she saw her dad with mouth open and face white. Kelly quickly ran to him.
“I didn’t mean to slap him. I didn’t-“
“Get out of my house. An abuser is never welcome here.”

“You’ve been quiet since I have been home, sweetie.”  Jensen caught his daughter walking by the entrance of his office.  Reese stopped.
“I’m fine,” she answered her father.
“Ahem,” Danneel snuck up behind Reese.  She raised an eyebrow at Reese’ lie.  Jensen changed his gaze to Danneel.
“Fine, I have a question,” the daughter looked to Jensen.
“What’s that, kiddo?”
“Where’s my mom?” Reese walked to Jensen’s desk and sat across from him.
“That is a very intense story that I can’t tell you right now, sweetie.”
“What? Why?” Reese became defensive.
“I have to call the network, but I think it would be best if I told you in therapy.  You up for going to my session tonight?”
“Umm.  Yeah.”
“It’s going to be a hard conversation, okay?  It’s not just a quick update kinda thing,” Jensen said seriously.  “Oh, that’s me,” he looked down at his phone.  “I need to take this, but I can talk in a few hours, okay, my love?”
“Yes, Daddy,” Reese exited the room with Danneel.
_________
“She wants me to tell her the whole story and where her mom is.  I wanted to do that here so that you could help.  Is that okay?” Jensen looked for validation in his therapist.
“I think that’s a great idea,” he replied.  “We’ve seen each other for a while now, Reese.  Both you and your dad have been some of my best clients. This is a hard conversation, but you’re practically an adult, so if you are ready, then let’s do this,” the doctor sighed.
“I guess.  You’re scaring me though.”
“You’re safe, I promise,” Jensen soothed her.
“What does that mean? Were we not?”
“No, we were always safe.  Remember we moved right after she left?  That was so she couldn’t find us.  Anyway, Grandpa kicked her out after…” he looked away from her.  “After he saw Kelly hit me across the face.”
Reese gasped.  She took his hand.
“It’s okay,” she smiled.
“Keep going, Jensen,” the doctor encouraged the father.
“We saw her a few years ago at the promenade, I just never pointed her out to you.  Your mom had been drinking and used drugs.  I heard it through some of our old friends and because her body looked tired and aged.”
“I met my mom and I never knew it?” Reese took in the information.
“I never let you go back to Gram and Gramps’ because they let her move back in, and I couldn’t have you around her if she was willing to slap me in front of you.  You were in the car, looking away, thankfully.”
“Wow,” Reese took a deep breath.  “So where is she?”
Jensen caught a breath in his throat.  Reese dropped his hand.
“Dad?”
“She… she tried to do the same thing with another guy, and she was arrested.”
“Abused him?”
“...raped him,” Jensen teared up.
“What? Guys don’t get rape-“
Jensen put his head in his hands to catch his sobs.
Reese moved his hands away from his face and leaned into his chest.  “Where is she, I’m going to-”
Jensen’s whimpers filled the room.
“Kelly was killed in prison.  The inmates found out that she was a rapist. She’s gone, baby.”
Jensen felt his daughter shaking against him.
“I’m so sorry, Daddy!  How could she do that to you?”
“She was mean, sweetie.” Jensen cleared his throat. “If she had ever done anything like that to you, I would have left sooner.”
The doctor waited until both had stopped crying and offered them some tissues.
“Do you see why your dad didn’t offer this information to you?”
“Yeah,” Reese nodded.  “It’s really personal and a lot of people never tell.”
“Correct.”
“I would have never told you, but I would have gotten into a web of lies, and I can’t lie to you.  It wouldn’t be fair.  You’re eighteen.  I didn’t want you to ever know the full extent of it. I couldn’t tell you all of it when you were younger, obviously, but I can’t hide it from you as an adult.  You would just pester me about it,” Jensen smiled.
“Damn right,” Reese giggled.  “How are you okay?”
“Because of you, Dee, Jared, the doc,” he gestured to the therapist.  “Really.  And you know how I got a tattoo on my hip a few weeks ago?”
“Yeah?”
“I used it to cover up some of the damage your mom had caused on my skin.  I hope you like the tattoo,” Jensen stood and lifted his shirt to his ribcage.  “It’s for you.”
Reese scooted closer to her dad so that she could see it.
“It’s three blue hearts.  One for you, Dee, and me.  Give me your hand.”
Reese offered her hand to her dad.  He guided her fingers to his hip.
“Do you feel that?” Jensen moved her fingers up and down the scar that was no longer visible.  Reese felt the lines embedded in his skin.
“K... A… A…”
“Yeah.”
“Kelly Ann Ackles.  She did that?  As if you were her property?” Reese removed her hand from her dad’s hip.
“Yeah.  With you, me, and Dee together for so long now, I thought it was a good way to start over.  Not have to be reminded of some of the bad stuff.”
“How are you feeling about all this, Reese?” The doctor interjected himself back into the conversation.
“She’s a bitch.  If she weren’t dead-”
“Honey,” Jensen quieted her.  “It’s over.  You don’t have to hate her.  She loved you, she made some terrible choices, but she really did love you.”
“How does it feel to hear him say that?”  The therapist asked Reese.
“He’s so calm about something that ruined his life,” Reese looked from her dad to the doctor.
“It look a long time for me to work through this, baby.  I still get upset about it, but I want you to know that I don’t blame you, and I don’t hate her.”
“How can you not?”
“I didn’t want to bash her, baby.  Kelly meant a lot to you.”
“She could have killed you with what she did!  And I couldn’t protect you!  AND I blamed you for the last ten years when all you did was protect ME!”
“Reese!” The doctor caught her attention.  She snapped her head to the therapist.  “You know you can’t say that.  What do you say instead?”
“Those were not problems to carry as weight.  When it happened, I was only eight.”
“Thank you.  Now, I think we need to decompress for a moment.  How’s school, Reese?”
“Good-”
“She’s getting A’s in-”
“Jensen,” the doctor gave a warning.  “Did I ask YOU the question?”
“No…” Jensen curled into himself.
“Thank you.  Now, can you continue Reese?”
“It’s good.  I have some friends and I play volleyball, but I’m a senior, so I’ll be done soon.”
“Wow!  Congratulations!”
“Thanks!” Reese beamed.
“How’s work, Jensen?”
“Oh, I can speak now?” Jensen growled.
“Why are you so cross all of a sudden?” The doctor narrowed his eyes at his patient.
“Dad, it’s okay.  Therapy is hard.  You know that.”
“Do I need to count to ten too?” Jensen stared at his therapist.
“I don’t know what changed, but you know one of the ground rules in here is not interrupting people.”
“Sorry,” Jensen took in a deep breath.  “I’m beyond stressed.”
Jensen went on to share that everything with Kelly had somewhat caught up with him.  He and Danneel were now married, doing things that he and his ex-wife used to do. Baking together, parties…
‘I can see how that would be overwhelming.  Reese, do you find it hard as well?”
“Eh. she’s been in my life for awhile now.  I like her.  She’s always been like my mom since Kelly left.”
“Kelly?” The doctor was curious for Reese’s name change.
“She RAPED my dad.  Kelly isn’t my mom.”
“I understand.  Before we get amped up again, I think we should call it a night.  Be gentle with yourselves, and both of you, don’t blame each other or yourselves for this.  You understand?”
“Yes,” the two patiets responded.
“Homework.  Affirmations.  Tell each other one compliment every day.  Even if it’s just a text message.  Have a good night, guys.”
_________
The next few days were tough.  Reese missed her dad.  Especially after the last few weeks.
“He was raped, Dee.”
“I know.  But there is nothing we can do about that now.”
“I know, but he didn’t deserve that.”
“No, he didn’t,” Danneel agreed.  “But he is okay.  He is okay.”
Reese
You’re really strong, Daddy.
Jensen
You’re so resilient, Reesy.  Good night from Vancouver.
_______
Reese
You don’t give up, even when it’s hard.
Jensen
Even through all of this news, you still push yourself to perform in school.  I love my honor roll student. :)
______
Reese
I love that you thank me for being me.  You make me feel smart.
Jensen
You show me how you love me by calling me and making sure I am okay.  I love that you send me videos of you and Danneel getting ready for Christmas even though you’re doing stuff that you used to do with your mom.
Reese
You’ve been married for a while, Dad.
Jensen
I know.  But it still makes me happy.
________
“Hi, Dad.” Reese walked into the kitchen on a Saturday morning, greeting her father after he flew in on a red-eye the night before.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he put down the paper and opened his arms to her as he sat on a barstool at the kitchen island.
“You’re warm,” Reese giggled.
“Got cold last night, so I had to add blankets to my bed.  Danneel’s not up.  I heard she had a long day at the brewery yesterday.”
“So many people there yesterday, apparently.  That promotional thing really worked, I guess.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Sure, Dad.  What’s up?”
“You know that saying, ‘the sins of the father’?”
“Yeah?” Reese cocked her head to the side.  “What about it?”
“I’ve been worried that you have been blaming yourself about all of this.  Our lives have been nuts, and I don’t ever want you to think that it’s your fault.  The sins of the father are not the sins of the son, or daughter, in our case.”
“But you didn’t do anything in the first place, Daddy.”
“What I mean is that we aren’t victims.  I don’t ever want you to feel as though I am a victim of your mom. You couldn’t have done anything.”
“We’ve talked about this, Dad.  It’s okay.”
“I don’t want you to carry it with you, though.  We do life.  We keep going, because that’s what we have to do.  If we get caught up in what has happened, we can’t live.  Not fully, anyway.”
Six Months Later
“They say the sins of the father are the sins of the son.  We are not our parents.  We, as students, make different choices than them.  Whether you are here today as a first member of your family to ever graduate, or if you come from a long line of graduates, I congratulate you.  You- we- did it.  We are the latest class of high school seniors. We did it.  There are many things people say.  ‘It’s easy,’ or ‘it doesn’t mean anything.’  YOU did it.  With a high school diploma, doors can be opened for you.  They say the sins of the father are the sins of the son.  My father taught me these things I have just shared with you.  So the sins of the father… I am no sin.  I am a graduate!” Reese took off her cap, untied her tassel, and threw the cap in the air.  “WE DID IT! Congratulations to the Class of 2019!”

“I think you need to go, sweetheart,” Jensen broached the funeral discussion.
“I don’t want to,” YN sighed.
“It’s a week from now, right? You have some time.”
“Yeah.”
“I think it comes down to whether you’ll regret it or not, honestly. If you feel like you’ll be fine, then don’t go,” Jensen said plainly. “There are people who can take care of everything based on what you’ve said.”
“I don’t think I can. It’s weird. I feel like I’m sad, but she wasn’t really involved in my life. She made it sound like I ignored her, but she ignored me until she found out that you and I met each other.”
“I’m sorry, YN.”
“Can I-“ YN stopped.
“What?”
“It’s stupid. Never mind.”
“No, it’s not. What were you going to say?”
“Can you- can you hold me?” She hoped he didn’t think she was acting like a baby.
“Of course. Come here.” He opened his arms to her from across the room.
She stood from her seat and ran into him. Without realizing it, the grown woman had landed on his lap. Jensen grunted under her weight but made no mention of his discomfort. YN surprised herself as she gasped for air through unexpected tears. Jensen stroked her back.
“I’m sorry-“ she barely got out before she couldn’t speak any more.
“No talking, just let it out,” he soothed. “It’s okay to feel it.”
After a few minutes, she sat up and scooted off his lap.
“I’ve never had that before.”
“A hug?”
“Someone to sit with me like that,” YN admitted. “Thank you.”
“Everybody needs that. Even me,” Jensen smiled.
“And you’re what? Fifty-six years old?” YN fell over laughing.
“Haha, very funny,” he crossed his arms and rolled his eyes.  “Let’s just sit here for a minute.” After some time had passed, their bodies relaxed into the couch.  “I love you,” Jensen kissed the top of her head.
“I know.  I love me too.” YN grinned.
“Really?” Jensen groaned playfully.
“What? Okay, I love you too.”
______
“Another nasty gram,” YN huffed while with the Ackles in their backyard.  “I think I need to go home.  They won’t leave me alone.”  She locked her phone screen after reading another hateful email from extended family regarding the funeral.
Jensen took her hand cautiously.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.  I say you should go if you feel you should, not for them.”
“I do need to go home though.  I have already been here too long without my computer… or my own clothes,” YN laughed.
“Let us know if we can do anything for you.” Danneel smiled.
“I think I’ll leave in the morning,” YN sighed. “And yes, I’m getting an uber.”  YN knew this could start a fight.
“Fine, but I’m paying for it.  I brought you here, you shouldn’t have to pay your way back.”
“Okay.  Thanks.  Both of you.  For helping me.  I don’t deserve you guys.”
“What are you talking about?” Danneel leaned forward in her lawn chair to look at YN who was on the other side of Jensen.
“You are the ‘other woman’.  You shouldn’t like me.  I could be your little sister.  It’s just weird overall.  And Jensen, you don’t have to be nice to me.  I’m a bastard kid.  It’s like a life sentence of shame.  I’m used to it.  I don’t expect you to be nice.”
“Well, you should.  I’m half the reason you’re even a person anyway.”
“So, I could have been a vampire, or a rugaru, or a-”
“Haha, you’re so hilarious, YN,” Jensen joked.
“Well, thanks.”
________
The next morning, YN said goodbye to the Ackles.  She got in her very expensive rideshare and waved as the car took her down the street.
YN decided to save face and go to the funeral.  When she showed up, extended family narrowed their eyes at her.  Taking a deep breath, she walked into the church.
“It would have been nice if you could have offered to do the eulogy, you know.”  YN’s aunt snuck up behind her and whispered bitterly.
“And steal the spotlight from you?  No thanks,” YN continued walking without visual acknowledgement of her elder. As she made her way to a pew in the back, she heard a man clear his voice. Staring ahead, she asked, “How did you know I would come?”
“Dee told me,” Jensen said calmly.  He sat down next to YN in the church.  “That’s a beautiful photo of your mom.”
“Don’t, Jensen.  Don’t make it all fluffy.  I’m only here so that they don’t hate me the rest of my life.”
“Sorry, kiddo.  I just know how hard this must be for you.  I’m right here though.”
YN’s uncle walked by and bent down to Jensen’s level.
“So you’re the bitch she played sheet music with that created the kid, huh?”
After a beat, Jensen took a deep breath
“Don’t Jensen.  He isn’t worth it,” YN whispered. “Uncle Tad, get a move-on.  This is hardly the time.  And if you ever threaten my dad again, I’ll let Aunt Sue know what you did when I was in fifth grade,” she growled.  Her uncle’s eyes went wide.
“Very well, then.  Goodbye you two,” he quickly walked to meet his wife at the front of the church.
“Do I want to know?” Jensen grinned.
“Nope,” YN giggled.
“You’re fantastic, you know that?”
‘You’re one of the first people to ever tell me that.  Thank you.”
_________
“Bring your stuff to Austin. We have a guest house.  Crash there until you find something,” Jensen said after the funeral.
“I have friends here, Jensen,” YN sighed.
“Not many, from what I can gather,” he said quietly.
“Oh, gee, thanks,” she rolled her eyes.
“I’m just saying that we would love to have you is all,” he wiped his face with a napkin after a large bite of hamburger.  Sitting outside, the two enjoyed the breeze.  YN had taken Jensen to one of her favorite restaurants.
“I’ll think about it.”
“That’s all I’m asking.”
The two went on to talk about how YN was glad she went to the funeral, but she was sad that her family had treated her badly.  Jensen agreed, but he gave his support in her attending.  YN showed him her favorite spots in Dallas.  As it turned out, they were some of his favorite too.
“Huh?” YN pulled out her ringing phone.  “It’s Gen… Hey, Gen.  Everything okay?”
“He’s flipping out again.  He was doing so good, and then he just wouldn’t stop hyperventilating.  I put a heavy blanket on him and spoke to him calmly, but he just won’t calm down.”
“Ask him if he wants to be alone.  If yes, then leave him for a few minutes, but don’t go far.”
Jensen knitted his eyebrows in concern.
“Another panic attack,” YN explained.  Jensen ran a hand over his face. “Relax, Jensen.  He’ll be okay,” she whispered.
“Jared, do you want a minute to yourself?  I can go stand outside.” Gen said to Jared.  “Okay, he wants some space.  Can I call you if he isn’t calm later?”
“Sure.  Bye, Gen.” YN clicked the hang up button on her phone.
“I need to go.” Jensen shot out of his chair, his napkin falling off of his lap onto the ground.
“No, you need to pick up your napkin and relax.  It’s not your job to protect him from the world, Jensen. Sit down and enjoy lunch with me, please.  I’ve had a horrible day,” she smiled, guilt-tripping him into staying with her.
“You drive a hard bargain, kid,” he laughed.
“Jared will be just fine.  He always is.  Besides, alone time has worked previously.”
“I wonder what set him off.  He was doing so good.”
“I’m not sure, but let’s not turn into detectives.  He’s fine, it’s fine.  Relax, big bro.  It could really be anything.  Triggers come out of nowhere sometimes.”
“Okay, okay.”
________
A FEW MONTHS LATER
“YN, come here,” Jensen motioned his oldest daughter to join him on a bench in his backyard. After she crash-landed next to him jokingly, they settled in.  “What would you think about us hanging out more?”
“You know I love you, but I can’t just fly up to Vancouver for long periods of time.”
“No, here in Austin,” Jensen smiled softly.
“You’re almost never here, Jensen.  That doesn’t make sen-” Her mouth hung open.  “The show- no- you-” she stumbled.
“I’ll be home a lot more pretty soon.”
“You’re saying- the show is….”
“Yeah.  The cast and network talked about it, and we want to end the show after this season.”
“Wai- what?” YN slowly processed the information he had presented.  “You can’t… You-”
“I know.  It was a hard decision.  But I just want you to know before we tell everyone.  I think we will have to address the fans in the next few days, and it’s just been really hard.” Jensen wiped a tear falling down his face.
“Wow,” YN recovered.  “I love you,” she said immediately to show her support. “I’m sure it will be a change, but it’s okay.  I honestly can’t wait to not watch football with you,” she took a beat and then laughed.
“Haha, that’s SO hilarious.” Jensen rolled his eyes.  “I love you too.  The fans won’t love me…” He put his head in his hands.  Jensen felt something hit the back of his head.  He looked up and saw YN put her hand down. “Ow!”
“You know DAMN well the fans won’t hate you.  They love the cast and crew.  Fans will respect your decision because you have family and want to do other things.  It’s okay,” she modeled a deep breath.  He copied her and wiped his face again.
“Thanks,” Jensen kissed her cheek.
“How’s Jared taking all of this?”
“He’s not.  Been an emotional mess since.”
“Panic attacks?”
“None yet, but close,” Jensen shrugged.
________
The next few days were tough for everyone.  After announcing the ending of the show, emotions were running high.
Jared barrelled through Jensen and Danneel’s house.  YN entered the back door from the guest house.  As she heard crashing sounds, she ran into the living room. YN saw Jared trip on the rug and land face-first on the couch.
“Jare?”
He slowly turned over, heaving.
“Can’t breathe.  Panic-”
“I know.  Do you want pressure or some alone time?”
“I’m fine-” he said, gasping for air.
“Right…” she said sarcastically.  “Lie down.  Here, take this,” YN shoved a pillow against his chest.  She squeezed his hand sporadically.  After some time, his body relaxed.  “It’s okay.”
YN’s phone beeped.
Gen
Did Jared come over? I can’t find him.
YN
Yeah. Panic attack.
Gen
I thought he was nervous… guess I was right. Is he okay?
YN
Yep. Calm now.may need a few more minutes though.
Gen
Let me know if you need anything.
YN
Yes, ma’am.
YN looked back to Jared. He had closed his eyes, and she saw his body melting into the couch.
“Hey! YN!” Jensen shouted walking into the room.
“Shh!” She responded.
Jensen stopped as soon as he saw Jared on his couch.
“Panic attack. He fell asleep,” YN whispered.
“Oh. Sorry!” Jensen whispered back.
“What do you need?”
“Just wanted to see if you were in the house. I was going to ask if you wanted to go see a movie, but…”
“Not right now. He may be amped when he wakes up,” YN offered.
“Damn.  Okay.  Maybe later.”  Jensen sighed and left the room.
YN waited for Jared to wake up. She grabbed her computer and worked in the chair next to him.  Thirty minutes later, YN heard him stir.  As he woke, he wiped his face and looked around.
“YN?”
“Hey, dude.  How ya feeling?”
“Better, I think.”
“Good.  let’s watch some trash TV then.”
Surprised that he calmed down, she turned on HGTV so that they weren’t watching something that would make him scared again.
Danneel walked in to Jared leaning against YN lazily.
“So… looks like fun in here,” she checked on them  “Lively party.”
“I feel better,” Jared grinned.  “So tired though.”
“To be expected,” Danneel walked by and ruffled his hair.  “Love you,” she affirmed.
“Back atcha,” Jared responded by squeezing her hand on his head.
Before going home, the Ackles’ invited Jaredto  stay for dinner.  Sending him home, YN wished him a good night.
________
YN excused herself to the guest house.  She kept thinking about the last few weeks.  The mental energy it took to live her life had drained her.  YN changed into her pajamas before climbing into bed.  She texted her dad goodnight before turning on her own TV.
YN coudn’t relax.  It was late, but she could not make her mind be quiet.  Her thoughts took over.
Man, I’m so tired.  So close to freaking out, but I’m okay.  Deep breaths.  I’m okay.  Who knew this would be my life? I’m Jensen Ackles’ kid, Jared Padalecki relies on me for his mental health, my mom is dead, the show is ending, and my family hates me.  This is the life.
YN sighed deeply, took another breath, and then gave in to her body’s demand for sleep.

“Asshole! Don’t effing touch me!” YN was yanked out of the room by the Dallas Police Department away from her latest foster parents. “I’m gonna haunt you!” She screamed at her foster dad as her caseworker met her at the door.
“Hey, YN,” she calmly addressed the teen. “Come here, we got you. It’s okay. They’re not worth this fight. We’re getting you out of here.” Sarah offered a weak smile.
“When the hell are you going to find me a foster family that doesn’t want to hurt me, huh?” Sarah froze at the venom spewing from YN as she was guided to Sarah’s car by a police officer.
“This isn’t my fault. I’m doing the best I can. She is a child reacting to her environment. This is the nature of the job” Sarah told herself.
“YN!” The sweet older couple from across the street frantically ran over to the child. “You okay?”
YN stood from the seat and let herself be enveloped in their arms, wrapping her arms around them both. The two had become like doting grandparents checking on her, making sure she was well fed and saw some familial love in her life.
“Mimi! They’re moving me again! That man is evil,” she said, referencing her former foster parent.
“Here, can I have a pen and paper, please?” The older women looked at Sarah. The caseworker tore off a page from her notebook and retrieved a pen from her bag. “This is my cell phone number. Call us if you need anything - I mean ANYTHING, okay?” The couple offered one more hug and watery smiles.
“Thanks. I’ll miss y’all.”
——-
The caseworker pulled up to a large house in a gated community. YN had never seen, let alone visited, anywhere this nice. Sarah watched as the tightness in YN’s face relaxed in awe of her surroundings, a moment of fear flashing across her eyes before they turned stoic and blank. The corner of her lips twitched, quirking down then pressing together in a sour expression.
“You ready, kiddo?” She asked..
“Whatever,” rolling her eyes, the fourteen year old’s face settled into her usual mask of hardened, begrudging, acceptance. “This place is way too nice for fosters. Probably just some rich jerks looking for a charity case.”
“Stop, YN. Give them a chance.”
“Not like I have a freaking choice, do I, Sarah?” YN growled at her caseworker. Sarah took a calming breath.
“You’ll be okay. They are a nice couple. You might actually know them.”
“What!? I don’t know anybody who lives in a mansion.”
“It’s not a mansion, now come on.” Sarah got out of the car and walked to the passenger side to escort the girl to the door.
YN fidgeted with the tattered cuffs on her sleeves as the caseworker knocked on the massive front door. When the door opened, YN’s eyes widened into giant saucers, brows jumping to her hairline as her jaw dropped at who was before her.
“Dean?” She whispered. “From Supernatural?”
The man chuckled, nodding. “That would be me.“ A blush creeped up his cheeks as his face dipped, eyes lifting to meet hers, “You must be YN. I’m Jensen. Would you like to come in?” His eyes dropped back to the floor before he pivoted to open the door wider, lifting his free arm and nodding his head in towards the house in invitation. “Come on in, then. Hi, Sarah, nice to meet you again.”
“You too, Mr. Ackles.”
Snagging YN’s duffel bag off of her shoulder as she walked passed him, he grunted. “You got rocks in here or somethin’?” Jensen laughed. YN reflexively tensed at the sudden movement, but she smiled tightly and offered a thankful nod as her shoulders slowly dropped.
Jensen plopped her bag inside the door before turning fully to introduce Danneel. YN lifted her chin slightly and pursed her lips in acknowledgment but did not respond verbally.
“YN...” Sarah prompted, nudging the girl lightly.
“Hi, Mrs. Ackles. It’s nice to meet you.”  YN said coldly with a mocking smile. A perfectly flippant affectation of a warm greeting.
“Would you like something to drink? Water? Sweet tea?” Danneel offered.
“Please,” YN whispered, eyes sparking in interest at the mention of sweet tea.
“Coming right up, dear.” Danneel smiled warmly.
“Go have a seat on the couch, YN. I need to talk to Mr. Ackles for a moment,” Sarah commanded, directing her towards the sunken family room.
“Fine.” YN huffed as she walked over to the living room and flopped onto the couch.
Danneel giggled at the exaggerated display of ever-suffering teenager-dom as she brought YN a cold glass of sweet tea and another warm smile before leaving her to meet with Jensen and Sarah.
“S’comfy.” YN grouched to herself.
“She is very resistant to change. YN is really a sweet kid at her core, but she puts on a front. Don’t give up on her too quickly. Please. You need to give her time to warm up to you, and it may seem painstakingly slow, but I swear she’s a good kid and she’s worth it.” Sarah frontloaded Jensen. “Ready to sign some paperwork?”
“Absolutely. Let’s go into the kitchen so that we can sit at the table.”
YN sat up sharply as she caught movement out of the corner of her eye.
“Hi! I’m JJ! I’m five!” A precocious little girl ran up to her. YN relaxed back into the couch, rolling her eyes with a grimace at the intrusion.
“Hi,” YN responded tersely.
“What’s your name?” JJ bounced closer on the balls of her feet.
“YN.”
JJ jumped onto the couch, sitting on her knees facing YN, still wiggling with excitement.
“How old is you?” She asked, scooching closer until her knees were against YN’s hip.
“I’m fourteen, can you go away?” YN griped and tried to scoot away as the small child leaned up and into her face.
“YN!” Sarah reprimanded, dropping onto the couch next to YN for a final chat.. “JJ, can you go see your mommy and daddy for a minute?”
“Okay,” she ran off to the kitchen.
“Don’t, Sarah. It doesn’t matter anyway. It’s not like they’re going to care about me. They’re just like everyone else.” YN said, crossing her arms with a resigned sigh.
“I have a feeling that they may will take whatever your crap that you dish out and give it right back to ya, hun. Now shape up so that I can leave with you behaving.” Sarah stood with a sarcastically put-upon sigh, followed by a small giggle and caring smile for YN.
“Fine.” YN responded in kind, sighing with an epic eye-roll before the corner of her lips quirked up in a small smile.
———
Over the next few weeks, Jensen and Danneel stayed nearby but didn’t intrude on YN’s privacy.
Danneel looked up and smiled, spotting YN as she walked down the stairs for breakfast, as she perched against the kitchen island with Zeppelin on her hip. “Good morning, YN. Want some eggs?”
“Yes, please,” she responded. YN  spotted Arrow off to the side of the kitchen, just as she tripped over a toy and started crying. YN looked at to Danneel in concern for the toddler, but realized that her hands were full of breakfast ingredients and Zep.
“I’m coming baby.” Danneel soothed, sighing a defeated breath as she tried to empty her hands quickly without dropping or breaking anything.
“I can get her. Ya know, if you need a hand.”   YN offered with a shrug.
“You are an angel, thank you!” Danneel offered her appreciation, relief evident in her whole posture as she put the last of the food next to the stove.
“Come here, baby,” YN cooed.
“Well that’s new…”, Danneel thought.
Arrow crawled to YN, and the older one scooped her up. “You’re okay, sweetness.” YN smiled as she wiped away Arrow’s tears.
“Impressive! You’re really good at that,” Danneel praised, gesturing toward Arrow.
“Lots of practice,” YN returned. “I was the oldest at the my first foster home”
“Did you like taking care of the little ones?” Danneel broached cautiously.
“Well, yeah. But it’s not like I had a choice. They made me take care of all of the kids, so I couldn’t really do my own thing, y’know?”
“I’m sorry, sweetie. I appreciate the your help though.”
“These guys are pretty easy,” YN shrugged smiled.
“Then I need lessons from you, because I am exhausted,” Danneel chuckled, leaning onto the kitchen island towards YN.
“Nah, you’re doing okay. Come on, Arrow. Let’s give Mommy some time with Zep.” YN smiled down at the little girl on her hip as she twirled and started towards the family room.
“Thanks, YN!”
Arrow and YN played in the living room while Danneel finished cooking. Jensen called YN via FaceTime while she was holding Arrow.
“Hey, YN! Oh, hey, Rowey!”
“Hi, Jensen. Arrow had tripped and got a booboo, so we are making her feel better now. Right, girly?” YN smiled.
“What? Is she okay?” He demanded.
“Umm…” YN shut down from his tone and change in attitude.
“She’s fine, Jay. Stop acting like a brute and being rude,” Danneel hollered from the kitchen behind YN.
“Oh, okay. Good. Sorry. Thank you, YN for helping her. Anyway, how have you been?”
“Fine.” YN shortly responded, more abrupt and distant than before.
“How’s school?” Jensen continued prodding, hoping for more than one word answers without realizing the lasting impact of his tone earlier.
“Good.” YN shrugged into the camera.
“Do you ever answer in full sentences?” He growled, frustrated.
“JENSEN!” Danneel scolded him as she ran to YN and tore the phone out of her hand. “Can you please take the twins outside for a minute, YN?”
“Sure.” YN grumbled as she led Zeppelin and Arrow out onto the porch.
“WHAT in the HELL is wrong with you?” Danneel bit out through gritted her teeth, seething.
“She doesn’t talk! I was just trying to have a conversation with her.” Jensen argued defensively.
“Do you know how hard I have worked to get her to open up to me? She has been offering up a lot more of herself lately, but you push her and gripe about how she isn’t talking enough for your liking. Why should she? You’re acting like an oaf!” Danneel groaned. “If you don’t have anything constructive to say to her, then shut up, ya hear me?”
“Babe-“
“I’m serious. Promise me.”
“Fine. Okay, Dee. Work your magic. But she can’t just open up to you... We’re a team and a family. I want to be a part of it, too.”
————-
“You don’t know what you’re doing! Get in the freakin’ car, YN,” Jensen yelled at his foster daughter. YN froze, shying her body away from the angry adult submissively holding her breath, and glancing at him out of the corner of her eye to gauge his intentions. “I have had enough of the lollygagging.  Stop being so mopey and get in the car.” Jensen could not believe her. On his one of only two days that he has off this month, he chose to spend the day with only her. Yet she was not responding at all to what he was telling her to do. She just would not listen!
YN quietly skirted into the SUV, curled into herself on the seat, and stilled. “Ya know, I spend a whole day with you and all you keep doing is slow down and not even say thank you. You’ve barely spoken, and you were rude to the employees in that girly store I took you to. I love you, YN, but we gotta make these days count. I’ve got stuff to do at the brewery tonight, and I’m not around a lot to take care of it.”
“Right, of course, sorry.” she conceded, holding back tears.
“Finally. Thank you,” he growled.

“Yadira, here.”  Robin handed the actress her character, Kaia’s, spear.  “Don’t let the boys have it until the script calls for it. Poke them with it if you have to, got it?” Robin raises a brow.
“Yes, ma’am.”  Yadira smiled. “I know how to use it. They don’t.”
“Perfect.”  Robin affirmed.  “Boys! Let’s go!”  She ordered them to their marks. Jensen and Jared eyed the spear in Yadira’s hands. “Don’t even think about it, you two.”  She eyed them playfully while they arrived at their spots, and she walked behind the cameras.
“Yes, mother.”  Jensen chuckled.  “Let me have it, Yadi.”  He whispered. She put the sharp edge to his chest.
“Don’t touch my spear.”  Yadira growled, smiling.  She brought it back, away from his body as they got set for the scene.
“Wow, so serious.”  Jared raised a brow.
“Leave her alone, guys.”  YN rolled her eyes.  She stood on her mark, ready to start the scene.
“Bossy people today, jeez.”  Jensen sighed.
They did the scene a few times.  When it was over, Jensen snatched it from Yadi and started to swing it around ungracefully.
“Jensen!”  Robin yelled.  “Give it back!”  She stared him down. “Actually, hand it over.”  The props director moved toward him and put her hand out.  He slowly released it to Robin with a pout.  “Big baby,” she chuckled. He groaned.
“But I want it!”  He complained as they walked to the next set.  The group giggled at his tantrum.
“Later.”
“Yes!”  He pumped how fist in the air.  “You promise?”
Robin rolled her eyes and said, “If you’re good.”
———-
“Kaia!”  YN yelled for Yadi’s character.  She turned. Jensen grabbed the spear, per the script. When they called cut, he swung it around, joking. Before he knew what had happened, it flew into the air, hitting YN’s upper body..  She fell back from the force, blood evident on her.  When the girl hit the ground, everyone froze. Their light-colored clothes now spattered with red. Onset EMTs rushes to them.  Jensen stood still in shock at what happened.  Robin walked up behind him and snatched the spear from him.
“I told you to knock it off,” Robin groaned.  She took the weapon out of his hand.
“Yadi! YN!”  Jared ran over. “You okay?”
The cast and crew heard whimpers from both girls.  Yadi tripped back, but she had no injuries.  Jensen’s face turned white.  Bending over, he threw up onto the ground from the shock of the situation.
“It’s okay, we gotcha.”  The EMTs noticed that YN’s head was bleeding.  They put her on a stretcher and whisked her away.
“I-I didn’t. She-“. Jensen spoke in gibberish.
“Jared, take him somewhere else,” a crew member said.
“Come on, dude.” The taller TV Winchester took Jensen’s arm and walked him off the set. Jared stopped when he saw dark stains on Jensen’s collar. “Wait!”  Everyone turned around. “He’s bleeding.”  Red drops were coming from Jensen’s eyebrow.  Another set of EMTs walked over to assess him, but as soon as he had a flashlight aimed at his eyes, he dropped. Jared and the EMTs lowered him to the ground.
—————
The two injured cast members were evaluated at the hospital.  Jensen was stitched up and released.  Yadira had a concussion so the hospital staff watched her for the next few hours. YN was injured the most. Jensen had hit her on the forehead hard enough to render her unconscious. He went to her room to watch over her.  Jared was already there. Puffy eyes showed his exhaustion.
“Hey,” Jensen slowly walked in.  Jared saw him stumble so the younger one guided him to a chair. “How- oh shit.”  He saw tubes and a mask on his co-star.
“Just breathe.  She’s sleeping. It’s only oxygen.”
Jensen sat next to Jared. The younger of the two looked at Jensen. “Let me see your eye,” Jared put his hand near Jensen’s face.  Jensen swatted his hand away.
“I’m fine.  How is she?”
“Good, conscious.  Just sleeping right now.”  Jared offered a sympathetic smile.
“I can’t believe I- I hurt her and Yadi.”
“It happens, dude. You know that.”
“Her parents would have killed me.”  Jensen ran a hand over his face in frustration. “They trusted us with her and this is the way I treat her?”
“Stop it, Ackles.  You can’t do that to yourself.  Go get a coffee or something.  Go home.  Do something.”
“No. I hurt her, now I’m going to stay here and wait.”
“Don’t make me and Clif drag you out of here.”  Jared threatened.
“No-“
“CLIF!”  Jared didn’t want to yell too loud. When the bodyguard entered, he looked at the boys.  “Take him home, please.  I’ll call you when she wakes up.”
“Don't you dare, I need to be here.  I did this.”
“And you’re going insane!”  Jared spat back.
“Let’s go, Ackles.”  Clif walked over to the older Winchester and hoisted him up. Jensen growled.
“Go, Jensen.  I’ll call you.”
—————
“I’m going to show you something, and I don't want you to jump to conclusions.” Jared looked straight at Jensen in YN’s hospital room. He whispered to not wake up the girl.
“Okay…?”
“Look at her biceps and forearms.”
Jensen walked over to YN’s bedside and noticed discoloration covering each appendage.
“That’s not from what I did. Those are days’ old.”
“I know,” Jared affirmed quietly.
“My girl.”  Jensen whispered with a heavy, deep breath.  “She’s practically my kid, Jared.  What happened?”
“Mine too, Ackles.  Let’s not assume anything though, okay?”
“YN has bruises everywhere and we shouldn’t assume?”  Jensen raised his voice.  Jared shushed him when he realized YN was waking up.
“Ya know, I realize I’m a pain in the ass a lot, but you cause me a lot of headache,” YN chuckled.
Jensen squatted down to look at her.
“YN, I’m so sorry.  Robin told me to knock it off, and I didn’t-“
“Who’s Robin?”
“Uh, Proppin’ Robin.  The props coordinator.”  Jared went to the opposite side of YN’s bed.
“Oh.  She sounds interesting.”
Jensen sent Jared a look of concern. The doctor walked in soon after.
“Hi. I’m Dr. Doe.  And you are?”
“That’s my uncle and my dad.”  YN smiled, lying.
“Perfect.  She was unconscious, but obviously doing better now since she is awake and talking.  Have you noticed any delay in thought process or stimuli?”  He looked at the men.
“She couldn’t remember a friend that we see often.”  Jensen frowned.  “Will it come back?”
“It’s common, so let’s not fret just yet.  Do you remember what happened?”  Dr. Doe looked toward YN.
“I got hit in the forehead,” she saw Jensen’s face fall.  She mouthed, “It’s okay,” to him.
“I’m encouraged by your progress. I’ll have my staff check on you later,” he smiled and then left.  Jensen was about to apologize, but she put her hand up.
“Don’t, Jensen. You didn’t mean to, and I’ll be fine.”
“But-“
“Baby!”  YN’s boyfriend walked in.  “Are you okay?”
“Umm.  Who are you?”  YN sank back into the bed at his sudden entrance.
“”It’s okay, YN.  This is your boyfriend, Brett.”  Jared smiled at her.
“Oh.”  She looked down at her hands.
“What do you mean?  She can’t remember me?!”  He growled, uncontrollable.  “You did this!”  He stomped toward Jensen.  Jared intervened.
“Stop.  It was an accident.  You need to calm down, Brett.”
“You hurt her!”  He tried to pass Jared to attack Jensen.
“It was an accident!”  Jensen screamed.
“Hey!”  A security guard pulled Brett off of Jared.  Leave.  You need to leave, sir.”  He took hold of his arm and escorted Brett out of the room.
Jensen fell back into his chair, flustered.
“Jensen,” YN whispered. He didn’t look up.  “Green eyes. Let me see ‘em.”  He turned to face her.  “It’s fine.  I will be fine.”
“How can you not be upset at me?”
“You’re my dad.  Well, practically.”  YN smiled.
“What if-“
“Leave if you’re going to play that game,” she sternly said.
“Give us a minute, YN.” Jared pulled Jensen out into the hallway.  “You need to stop.  Get out of your freaking head.  You ACCIDENTALLY hurt her.  She’ll  survive.”
“But, the bruises.  I mean-“
“I saw them.  Let’s take it one step at a time, Ackles.  Just breathe.”
———-
“I love you, kid.”
“I love you too, adult,” YN giggled.
“Hi, YN.”  A female with a pant suit walked in.
“Who are you?”  She cocked her head.  “Do I know her?”  YN looked at Jensen.
“Nope.”
“I’m a social worker associated with the hospital.”  The lady smiled.  She took a seat in the empty chair next to YN’s bed. “How is your recovery?”
“Good.  Memory is still foggy, but it’s getting better.”
“Good. I saw you got some stuff on your arms.  You must play sports or something.”
YN looked down and saw the bruises.
“Huh?”  She looked back at Jensen with an alarmed expression. “Where did these come from?”
“I am not sure, baby.”  Jensen prayed they could figure out what was going wrong.
“You hit your head and fell back onto the ground right?  You didn’t hit anything you on the way down?”
“She just collapsed.”  Jensen spoke up.
“Alright, so do you play sports?  You must be an active kid!”  The social worker smiled.
YN looked at Jensen, scared of all the questions.
“YN dances.”
“Oh, really?” The social worker smiled.  “My daughter is involved in ballet.”
“I love dancing.  It’s an outlet from working with that dweeb over there,” YN chuckled.
“Hey!” Jensen crosses his arms.
“Stressful?”  The social worker raised a brow but giggled.
“You have no idea,” YN rolled her eyes playfully.
“Oh, shut up, YN.”
“Okay, well, Thank you for your time.  I will leave you be.  Please don’t cause too much trouble though.”  The specialist stood up with a grin and walked out.  Jensen excused himself.
“Hey, lady!”  He called after the social worker. “Please, I don’t think she knows what those bruises are from.”
“I believe her, I don’t think she remembers.”
“What do you think happened?”
“Hard to tell, sir.  Are you her father?”
“Yes, now please tell me.” Jensen didn’t care that he played her TV father.  He wanted to know how YN was hurt.
“It looks like fingerprints.”  She let out a deep breath.  “I observed a few deep bruises, but most of the coloring on her arm is consistent with oval shapes.”
“Someone grabbed her.  A lot.” Jensen suggested.
“Basically.  Yes,” the worker agreed
Jensen grew red in the face.
“Please let us do our investigation.  We want what’s best for her too.”
“Whoever did this-“
“Will have to deal with an angry dad.  I know.” She gave a reassuring smile. As she left, Jared walked up.
“So?”
“The social worker thinks someone hurt her.”  Jensen sighed.
“Poor baby.” Jared rubbed his forehead.
—————
“Hey, YN.  How you feeling?”  Jensen brought her dinner the next night after being released from the hospital.
“Good, better.  Thanks for the food.”
“It’s the least I can do for ruining the last few days.”
“Oh, shut up.  I’m fine!  I’ve been getting my memory back.  Really, I’m good.”
“Speaking of, you okay?  You been dancing a lot lately?”
“No,” she tilted her head.  “Why?”
“Because you look like you’ve fallen a lot lately or something.  Look at your arms.”
YN pulled up her sleeve.  “I’m not sure.  I saw them earlier, but I just can’t remember.”
It’s okay, YN.”
—————
“Hey, YN.  You ready to be back?”  Jared grinned and lightly hugged her.  She winced.  “Oh, sorry YN.  I forgot I needed to be extra gentle.”
“I’m fine, thanks.  So glad to be back,” she smiled as she walked up with Brett.
“Good.”
“YN!  Wardrobe!”  One of the crew members called for her.
“Oh, gotta go.  Brett, meet me in my trailer.” She ran off.
She took her clothes for the day to her trailer.
“You’re fine, don’t wince when someone hugs you.  You know you deserved those marks.”  Brett growled lowly. “You did this to yourself.  Deal with it.  And what are you doing ordering me to go into your trailer?”
“You did that?  Why?” Shocked, she stared at him.
“Like you don’t remember!  You were bad so I punished you.  You deserved it.” Brett stood from the couch quickly and walked toward her.
“No!” She put her arm up to block his, but he was able to hit her other arm.  YN created enough space to kick him and step back.  As he stumbled, she exited the trailer.
The scenes were long and arduous with emotional aspects that drained the cast. Since the next scene required wardrobe changes for a physical fight, YN chose to change in the wardrobe trailer.
When YN came out, she had a tank top on and was putting on her flannel when Jared stopped her.
“What’s that?”  He saw a fresh bruise on her arm.
“Nothing.  It’s nothing.”
“You know who did that to you, don’t you?” Jared looked over the marks on her arm.  He saw a fresh bruise on her tricep.
“No, leave me alone.”
Jensen walked up to them. “What-“ he noticed the purple bruise.
“Stop.”  YN growled.
“No.”  Jared responded sternly.  “You’re getting hurt somehow.  We love you, and we want to protect you.”
“Why?  ‘Cause my parents made you?  You doing your duty as my pseudo family since my parents died? Back off! Stop being so damn protective!”
“Woah!”  Jensen reacted.  “What is going on?”
“Nothing,” YN dismissed his concern.
“Hey, whore! Get back here!” Brett opened the door to her trailer not realizing Jared and Jensen were standing with YN outside the trailers.
“I’m going to kill him.”  Jensen stared at Brett.
“I didn’t know it was him! I promise!”  YN shrieked.  Jensen ran toward YN’s boyfriend. Jared hugged YN tightly, but then he realized how much Brett had hurt his TV niece. He let her go and chased after Jensen.  Before she knew what happened, security guards were pulling the boys off of the abuser.  Brett was brought to his feet by the officers and escorted to their office.  When the crew realized what had happened, Jared and Jensen were taken to the first aid station. Misha took YN into his arms and walked her behind Jared and Jensen.
“Come on,” he whispered.  He stroked her hair as they arrived to their destination.  “Let’s get you fixed up.”
“How?  Why would I let him do that?”  YN expressed.
“I am not sure, YN.  But I’m glad you’re okay.”
She was encouraged to sit on the bumper of the first aid vehicle as Jensen and Jared plopped themselves on the gourney.  As she sat down, an EMT tried to wipe the dried blood from her arm.  YN flinched.
“Sorry, sweetheart.  I’ll be gentle,” the specialist smiled at her.
“Here, take my hands and close your eyes.  Just relax.  No one will hurt you.  They are here to help, promise.”  Misha squeezed her hands.
“Okay, thanks, Meesh.  Love you.”

Uh Oh (One Shot)
@find-sammys-shoe   I was gonna ask for a teen reader (who is a part of the cast) and Jared is a father figure to her.  I wanted something to happen with the reader (mental health wise) where she starts acting differently.
Words: 4500
Warnings: language, physical abuse, drinking, death, angst
AN- I will not be finishing the Uh Oh series.  I changed it to a one shot.  This was for my Jared lover @find-sammys-shoe ! @sbcamp08 thanks for the assistance.

Bella walked to the makeup trailer.  She entered through the door to see Jensen having his hair styled.
“Good morning, Jenny. Hair looking good today.” She snickered.
“Ass.” Jensen responded to her feminization of his name. “You take longer than me, idiot.” He rolled his eyes playfully at his TV niece.
“Whatever, old man.” Bella laughed. “Where is my father?”
“You mean Samantha? He’s coming.”
“Cool, I may have set up a little prank for him…”
“Good luck with that, kid.” He smirked.
Jared walked in.
“Hello, father,” she smiled.
“Hello, daughter,” Jared laughed.
“You realize you two aren’t related, right?” Jensen entered the conversation.
“We should be,” Bella giggled.
“I really don’t like having two of you,” the oldest whined.
“You love us, uncle.”
“Whatever, idiots.”  Jensen excused himself with a huff.
———
“Whatever, Dean. I was just trying to help. Excuse me,” Becca stomped away.
“When is she going to learn that only I wash Baby? My girl has water stains everywhere now!” Dean roared and crossed his arms.
“You’re injured. She was trying to be nice. Now I gotta go clean up the mess you made with your niece.” Sam stood up from a chair and walked toward his daughter’s room.
“And cut!” The director yelled. “Great job, moving on!” Richard stated.
“I would hurt Becca, you know that, right?  Or you.  No one touches Baby, you or your character.  No touching, no washing, no breathing near my girl.
“Yes, Jensen, I understand..” She rolled her eyes. “Because you’ve got a stick up your a-“
“Woah!” Jared walked back to the conversation. “Words, much?”
“You cuss all the time. What’s the problem with me doing it?” Bella raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t want my daughter to talk like that.”
“Oh really, Dad ? Because you set such a great example.” She and Jensen snickered.
“Oh, shut up!” Her TV father dismissed them with a laugh.
“Let’s get some lunch.”
———
“You not hungry?” Jared saw that Bella’s plate was empty after going through the buffet line. “Stomach ache or something?”
“Yeah, not feeling too good.” She grabbed her midsection.
“You want some meds or something? Where’s your mom?” Jensen asked.
“I’ll be okay. Thanks. She isn’t here today. Some new crew member was named my guardian for the day, don’t know ‘em.”
“That’s not like her.” Misha stated.
“It is now,” the fifteen year-old sighed under her breath. “Unggh.”  Bella groaned.
“Why don’t you rest in your trailer? We’ll check on you later.” Jared nodded toward her on-set humble abode.
“Okay, thanks.” Bella picked up her plate and walked toward her trailer door.
“Hope she’s okay,” Jared said quietly to the other two cast members nearby.
————
“Better?” Jared saw Bella walking over to him on set after lunch.
“A little. Nap helped.” She gave a small smile.
“Good, kiddo. Let us know if you’re feeling worse, okay?” Jared wrapped an arm around her.
“Yes, sir.”
Please let me get enough sleep tonight.
_______
The next morning, Bella woke with more energy. “You coming to set, Mom?”
“No, baby.  Not today.”  Her mom rubbed her temples.
“Why?  I want you there.”
“You’re old enough.  They take good care of you.” Sharon dismissed her daughter’s question.
“But I want you.  Please?”
“I am still in my pajamas.  And I think your driver is here.  I’ll sign over guardianship to him for the day.  Have a good day, sweetheart.”  The mother walked outside, signed a release paper, and stepped back into the house.
What the hell?
————
“You seem chipper today.”  Misha noticed.
“Slept good, actually.”  The fifteen year-old responded.
“You don’t normally?”  He inquired.
“No.”
“How come?  You’re too young to not sleep good.”  Misha looked concerned while sitting in his makeup chair.
“I don’t really know, Meesh.”
“Try to take care of yourself, okay?”
“Yep, I will.”
_____
“Hey, Jelly!”
“Hey, Bean!  Aren’t you hot?  It’s like 85 degrees (29.4 C) and you’re wearing a huge sweatshirt.”
“No, I’m cold.”
“Are you fighting a fever?” Jared grew concerned.
“Maybe, not sure.”
Jared put his hand up to her forehead.  He winced at her hot skin.
“Go rest.  One of the PAs will get you when we pick up for shooting.”  Jared guided her toward her trailer.
“Okay, thanks.”
Why is she so out of it all the time?
_______
“No, you may not.” Sam commands..
“Dad,” Bella’s character, Becca starts, “you can’t control me forever.”
“I know, but I can try.”  Sam defends. “I don’t want you to go. Please.”
“You just don’t want me going out with this boy.”
“Well, yes. But it seems too perfect, sweetheart.”
Dean walks in.
“I have to agree with your dad. The guy comes out of nowhere and has a crush. It’s weird.” He wraps  his arm around Becca.
“Stop taking his side, Dean.” Becca rolls her eyes.  “Fine. But I get to choose the movie tonight.”
“AND CUT!”
As soon as the scene ended, Bella walked off set.
“Hey! Bella!” The boys caught up to her.  She turned. “You okay?  You leave set so fast.  We’re starting to get worried. You don’t hang out with us anymore. Did we do something?” Jared cut in front of her so that she would stop.
“No, of course not.  I’m just exhausted.  The on-set teacher has increased my work, and I guess it’s catching up with me.”
Don’t tell them.  Don’t tell them.
_________
“Gen!”  Bella saw Jared’s wife on the set.
“Hey, B!  How you doing?” Gen gave her a hug.
“Good!  I miss your babies!  Where are they?” Bella rubbed her arms.
“At home, I am here on business.”  Gen responded.
“Oh darn, well maybe I can see them next time.”
“I’m going to see Jared, I’ll see you later.” Gen walked off.
When she greeted Jared, she asked him, “Is something up with Bella? She seemed reserved. I mean, she said hi, but she- I don’t know.”
“Yeah, she seems to be acting strangely lately.”
—————
“Becca?” Dean calls.
Bella stirred on the bed in front of the camera.
Jensen broke character.
“What the hell is up with you, kid? ACT like you’re asleep. Don’t actually fall asleep!”  He laughed.
“CUT!”
“I’m sorry.” Bella apologized for not being prepared.
———-
“She fell asleep. REALLY fell asleep on the motel bed. Is she not sleeping or something?”  Jensen asked Jared later that day.
“What the hell?”
“Yeah. It was just us in the scene. I enter and ask a question, but she was asleep on the bed!”
______
“Why’d you fall asleep yesterday? Why are you so tired?”  Jared asked Bella in her trailer.
“I think I have insomnia,”  she blew out a breath.
“Have you been to the doctor?  Jensen said you fell asleep during the scene yesterday.  You’re scaring me.”
“Just… stuff.  I’m okay.”
“You’re not though.  Is your family-”
“Leave it, Jared.  Just leave it.”
“Darlin’, I just want you to be-”
“STOP, Jelly.
“Come on, Bella.  You’re scaring us, that’s all. Please tell me what’s wrong. Please.”
“My driver is here to take me home.  Good night, Jared.”  She quickly left the conversation.
—————
“Mom!”
Bella walked through the front door as her driver drove away.
“Yeah?”
“You sound tired.  You okay?”  Bella asked her. She heard a sound and saw a figure close the back door behind him.  “Ahh!  Call 9-1-1!”
“Relax, honey.  I know him, it’s fine.”
“Who is he?”
“He is a friend.”
“Huh.  Just a friend?  You know you and Dad just got divorced, right?” Her mom was stoic, no emotional reaction. “Whatever. Okay, good night.”
“Goodnight sweetheart.”
I need to use the restroom.
_________
“I can’t, Dad.  I can’t help Charlie with research.  I’m already helping Garth because Uncle Dean is an ass and off’d it to me,”  Becca huffs.  “I also have homework due tomorrow night that I can’t get done until the dweeb is done with my computer.  He is catching up on Dr. Sexy, apparently.  Excuse me while I research the old-fashioned way.”  Becca walks toward the library.
“I still can’t believe he likes that show,’ Sam says under his breath.
When they did the scene again, Bella played the scene in a more dramatic manner.
“Hey, you okay?”  Jared pulled her aside.
“Yeah, why?”
“You’re changing your intensity every time.  You sound frustrated.”
“No, I’m fine,” Bella dismissed.
“If you say so, kiddo.”  Jared gave a frown as he walked back to his mark.
_________
“Oh, no.”  Bella came through the front door a few weeks later and saw her mom asleep on the couch with the same man she had seen recently.  “Hey!”  The two adults stirred.
“Hey, baby,”  Sharon slurred.
“Hi, you must be Becky.”  The man tried to stand, but he fell back against the couch.
“Actually, it’s Bella,” she growled.  “You got some nerve.”
“Oh… cool.”  He did not address her more aggressive comment.  He stood up and walked toward her.  “I’ve heard- I’ve heard so much about you, Becky.”  She moved out of the way.
“You never stay when I am around.  You two are drunk, aren’t you?  Get out, you ass!  Now!”
He continued to slowly chase her, staggering.  She screamed as loud as she could.  He stopped.
“Go, honeybun.  I’ll call you- um- tomorrow,”  Sharon slowly spoke, tripping over herself to get to her friend.
“You’re lucky she was here, Becky,”  the man walked out.
“Who is that?  A friend with benefits?”  Bella raised her voice.
“He’s- he helps me.  Your ‘big-lawyer’ father did not pay child support again.  He should, ya know.  I’m gonna find him myself and-”
“Mom!”  Bella interrupted.  “Stop!  He always pays it on time!”
“Your dad is scum, Bell!”  Sharon whined with a lazy roll of her eyes.
“He’s doing better than you!  He’s in recovery!  You’re more drunk than he ever was!  You know how much I hated his drinking.  Dad stayed with you when you were drunk all the time!”
Her daughter saw her try to hide a brown long neck behind her back and even more behind a cabinet in the living room. “I need money!  That man helps me!”
“What?  Why are you drinking?  Who was he, really?”  Bella angrily took the bottle from her mom.  “Is this why you stay home?  To get wasted?”  She threw the bottle across the room.  It hit against the metal trash can and shattered on the floor. “That’s what Dad did!  That’s why you divorced him!”
“You and your perfect little life!”  Sharon screamed back at her daughter.  “You get to live your dream while I am now alone!”
“What?”  Bella softened.
“Never mind, sweetie.  Go to bed.  I’ll see you in the morning,”  Sharon sneered and walked up the steps without explanation.
Great.
______
Why has she been acting like this?  It’s getting worse.
Who was that guy?  He’s gross.
Why is she drinking again?  She hurt me last time.
How come I’m not with Dad?
It’s 2.30.  Three hours til my alarm.
________
The next day, Bella did not ask her mom to go to set with her.  She ate breakfast and left with a large mug of coffee in her hand.  When she arrived in Makeup, the makeup artist looked her over.
“You okay, sweetie?  You look exhausted.  That’s not like you to have bags under your eyes like that,”  she said gently.
“Didn’t sleep.  I’m so tired,”  Bella admitted.
Jared entered the room and noticed as well.
“Were you up watching YouTube videos again last night?”  Jared joked.
“Yep, that’s it.  Stupid Ariana Grande videos are just so mesmerizing.”  She rolled her eyes.
“Hey, is something going on?  You would tell me, right?”  Jared put his hand over Bella’s.
“Huh?”  She yawned.  “Oh.  Yeah.”
“I’m just worried.”
“Don’t be.  I’m a Winchester.  I can handle myself,”  Bella giggled.
“Baby, what-”
“I’m good, Jelly.  Thanks though.”
________
“Hey, Sharon, it’s Jared.”  He said hello to Bella’s mother.
“Oh, hi.”  Her words slowly came out.
“I’m just calling because we’ve all noticed a difference in Bella, and I wanted to make sure you all are doing okay.  She seems really tired, and she misses you on set.”
“Well, I’ve been a bit busy with my own ativivities- activities these days, Jeremiah.”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m so, so grateful.  So grateful you care for her.  She deserves someone like you to watch over her.  Thanks,” with that, she hung up.
“What was that?”  Jared pressed the red button on the screen to end the phone call.
“What?”  Jensen and Misha walked up.
“Uh, I called Bella’s mom just to check in and she seemed out of it.  It was just weird.  Her words were all jumbled and she hung up on me before the conversation was over.”
“That’s weird.  She’s usually upbeat.”  Misha commented.  “But she hasn’t been to set in weeks.  I know Bella has mentioned she isn’t sleeping.”
“She wants her mom here too, but she never comes anymore.”  Jensen chimed in.
“Sharon almost sounded- never mind.”  He spoke slowly.
“What, Jared?”  Misha asked.
“Drunk.  She sounded completely drunk, honestly.”
“Really?”  Jensen and Misha were in shock.
“I mean, that could explain a lot.”  Jared surmised.
Bella walked out of her trailer and over to the boys.
“What are you crazies talking about?”
“I called your mom to ask if she was doing okay since she hasn’t been to set with you in a while.”
Oh, crap.  I
Jared continued, “Your mom seemed different. Has your dad been around? He doing okay?”
Bella had to think quickly. “She’s just been out of it lately, I guess.”
“Is that it, though?  You’ve been so tired, and she didn’t seem like herself.”  Jensen asked.
“We’re good, Jelly.”
“No you’re not.”  Jared responded curtly.
“Stop.  We’re all fine.”  Bella gritted her teeth. “Excuse me, they need me in Wardrobe.’   She stomped toward the assigned trailer.
“Not how I thought it would go,” Jared remarked.
__________
Over the next few days, Jared watched Bella closely.  She retreated.  Often, she was in her trailer or left set as soon as scenes were done.
“She’s hiding.  Something happened,”  Jensen noted, seeing the same realization on Jared’s face.  “You should say something.”
“Me?  Why me?”
“You’re her buddy.  She trusts you.”
“I’ve tried, man.  She doesn’t say anything.  I mean, she’s practically my kid.  She’s been around since she started kindergarten.  I just-”
“You love her, that’s why you’re stuck.  That’s why we’re all stuck.”
________
“Are you coming to my birthday party?”
“What’s the theme?  Paw Patrol?”  Jensen retorted.
“No, you jerk!”  Bella laughed.  “Please come!  Please?”  She looked at her three cast mates with puppy dog eyes.
“Yes, we will all be there.”  Jared smiled.
“Yeah!  Thank you!”  She gave each cast member a hug.
“I promise I will not blare One Direction the whole time!”  Bella laughed.
“Good, because I would turn it off and put on some Pearl Jam,” Jared laughed.
————-
At the party, the boys enjoyed time with the crew outside of work. All in attendance took part in the yummy appetizers and cake, although that is not what caught most attendees’ attention.
Misha was the first to mention it. “Is Bella’s mom- is she wasted at 1pm?”
“She’s at least tipsy. Haven’t seen her take a drink though.”  Jared joined in. “Oh! There’s her dad.” He walked over to Bella’s father. “Hi, Jonathan! Haven’t seen you in a while. How you been?”
“Good, just working a lot. How’s my girl been doing on set?”
“She’s fantastic.  She is always a pleasure. We work hard, but we have fun. We’ve been issuing you both on set! You should come by sometime.”
“Both? Doesn’t her mom go with her?”
Jared realized the weight of his own previous statement.
“I think that’s a discussion for you two.”  He whispered.
Bella’s father quickly walked toward Sharon. Jared tried not to watch as the wto parents gritted their teeth at each other through a quiet argument. Jared became distracted when arms wrapped around his waist.
“Thanks for coming, Jelly.”  Bella giggled. “I love you.”
“Hey, Bean!  Of course I came. Wouldn’t miss a chance to see Harry Stiles on paper plates.”  He picked up a birthday cake plate and showed her.  “Next year we are having an AC/DC party.”
“No!”  Bella laughed. As she caught her breath, she groaned. The now sixteen year-old stomped over to a man who had just entered and screamed, “Get out!” The party-goers became silent. “Leave.” She growled.
“Bella!”  Her mom tan to her and the man. “You know who this is. He wanted to say hi, that’s all.”  She embraced the man in a hug.
“It’s my party. I don’t want him here.” Bella growled lowly. Slowly the attendees went back to their conversations, however the boys watched inconspicuously.
“Just let him come in for a few minutes.”
“You,” Bella pointed at him, “better not shit on my birthday party.” With that, she walked away and entered the restroom.
“Oh, gosh.” Jared huffed a breath while watching the interaction.
When she came out of the bathroom, Jared pulled her aside.
“You okay?”
“Yeah. He’s just not my favorite person. I’m fine. Thanks.”
“Hey, Bella!” One of her friend’s called for her. “Come here!”  She waved to Jared and chased her friend down.
“Man, that guy is eerie.” Jensen walked over to Jared after getting a drink.
—————-
“Hey, Jelly!  Hey Meesh, Jenny.”
“Very funny, young lady.”  Jensen admonished.
“Hey, Bean! Did you crash after your party on Saturday?” Jared asked his TV daughter.
“Yes! I was so tired. But thank you for coming!”
“Of course. Glad I could celebrate you becoming an old woman!” Jared slightly nudged her. She winced.  He noticed. “Did I hurt you?”
“Nope!  Just caught me by surprise.”  She gave the worst fake smile he had ever seen. He touched her arm lightly again. When she recoiled. He took her flannel shirt off of her shoulder and lifted her T-shirt sleeve.
“Hey!”  She tried to get out of his grasp, but his hands kept her in place.  The boys gasped.
“It’s nothing.  I’m okay.”
“You have cuts on you.  And bruises.  What in the name of all things is going on?”  Jared pulled down her sleeve again but held onto her elbow.  “And don’t say you’re fine.”
“I got bit by a dog,”  Bella answered quickly.
“You wanna try again?  Those weren’t teeth marks.”  Jared probed.  She tried to break free.  “Excuse us, guys.  We need to have a father-daughter conversation.”  Jared growled and walked her to his trailer.  “Sit.”
“Jelly, I am fine.”
“Don’t ‘Jelly’ me.  And you’re not fine.  Take off your flannel.”
“Huh?”  Bella became defensive.
“Take it off and roll your t-shirt sleeve up.”
“Jare-”
“Do it.”
She reluctantly did as asked.  He saw her entire arm covered in colors.  Scrapes and bruises were evident from her shoulder to elbow.
“WHAT THE-”  He started.  Jared saw her shift away from him quickly and he stopped talking.  “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean to scare you.  Something happened.  What is it?”
“Don’t ask me. Please don’t ask me that.”  Bella refused to answer his question.
“I’ve seen you pull at your sleeves, eat very little, and hide from us. You’re like my own kid. There is a reason my kids call you their sissy. I want to help you, but I can’t until you tell me.”
“I can’t.”
“You can’t what?”
“I can’t take it anymore.  Life just sucks right now.”
“Why?” Jared tried not give an automatic, protective growl. As soon as she heard the concern in his voice, she broke down.
“My parents aren’t together anymore.  They haven’t for a while.  My mom had been acting weird, and then-”  Bella suddenly wailed into Jared’s chest.  He soothed her so that she could continue. “Mom started drinking.  She divorced my dad because he did the same thing.  He got it under control, but then I found her with this random guy!  He came after me, and-.”  Bella fell apart again.  “He hurts me every once in a while.  My mom too.  She doesn’t know, though. I think she blacks out.”
“Oh, sweetheart.” He pulled her into him.  “Why didn’t you say something?  We could have helped.” As he took note of her body, he saw lined cuts up by her shoulders that he hadn’t seen previously.. “How have you been coping?  And before you say, I think I already know. Can you show me?”
Bella was too weak to talk, so she pulled up her sleeves over her shoulder. Jared took in the pink lines past her shoulder and on the corner of her collar bone.
“I’m sorry,” she wailed. “I’m so sorry. I should have told you!” Bella fell against her TV father again.
————
Over the next few weeks, Bella’s life shifted. She went to live with her dad when he realized what going on.  The cast and crew noticed her demeanor slowly changing back to her true personality. She laughed more, hung around the other cast members, and maintained her natural bubbliness.
“You okay?”  Jensen walked up to his TV niece.
“I am. Got lots of sleep last night. Scrapes and bruises are healing.”
“That’s not what I meant, smartass.”
“Can’t get anything by you, huh?”  She rolled her eyes.
“You seem less stressed.”
“Yeah. I guess I feel safe. Does that make sense?”
“Absolutely.  You had to worry about lots of things that were out of your control. Hopefully you won’t have to anymore.”
“Exactly.  It’s feels good.”
“Bella! I miss you!”
Bella turned from Jensen to see her mother on the other side of the studio stage gates. .
“Don’t respond. Go to your trailer and lock the door.”  Jensen commanded in a low voice. “Go!”
Bella was so stunned that she froze. Jensen turned her toward the trailers and nudged her. When it all clicked, she ran as fast as she could. On her way, she slammed into Jared while tears streamed down her face. He was about to make a joke when he saw the wetness from her crying on his shirt.
“What, Bean?  What happened?” He tried to embrace her, but she pushed him away and grabbed his hand. They entered her trailer and she locked the door. “What-“
“She’s here. She came to the gate and- Jensen told me to run here.”
“She?”
“Mom. Drunk.”  Bella spoke through quick breaths. Jared realized the situation and started to leave. “NO!” She pulled him toward her. “Don’t leave!”
“Let me call security. Come here..”  He offered her the space under his arm and wrapped his arm around her shoulders.  When Jared learned that Sharon had been removed from the property, he relaxed.  “She isn’t out there anymore.  You’re safe.” Blankly, Bella  stared at the wall in front of her. “You hear me, Bean?” He whispered.
“Umm.”
“Shh. Don’t worry. Just sit here with me.”
A knock on the trailer door made Bella shriek. When Jared opened it, a security guard had Jensen by the arm.
“He went ballistic on the lady out there.”
“Bring him in here.”
The guard sat a blank-staring Jensen down next to Bella on the couch. She noticed scrapes on his hands. When the man left, they sat in silence for a moment.
“What did you do?”  Bella asked her tv uncle.
“I punched a wall.  She said some awful things. It made me mad.”
“Thank you.”  Bella whispered. She fell into his arms.
“If course, Bell. I’m sorry you-“
“Not your fault,” Bella interrupted him.
———————
A few weeks later, “Uh, Dad?”  Bella saw him walking toward her on the set.
“Hey, sweetheart.  Can we go in your trailer?”  Jonathan asked her.
She saw his drawn face.
“What happened?”
“Let’s talk.”
“No, now.  What’s up?”  She demanded.
“Bell-”
“Now!”
“Fine.”  He took a breath and said quietly, “ Your mom is gone,”  Jonathan made eye contact.
“What?”  She stuttered.  “Gone as in missing or gone as in-”
“That guy got her drunk and she just had too much.  I am so sorry, baby girl.”  His daughter froze in place.  “I’m so sorry.”  Jonathan approached her and slowly hugged her.  She felt what he had told her.  Bella leaned into him quickly but he did not catch her in time before she hit the ground.
“THAT ASS!”  She screamed.  “He killed her!”
Jonathan met her on the cement and held her.
“I know.  I know.  I got you.”
__________
The next afternoon Bella was on set with her father.  “I need to take care of some of Sharon’s business, and I don’t want her around.  Can she go home with one of you for the night?”  Jonathan asked the three main cast members.
“I think she has some clothes at my house.  Gen and the boys are visiting.  Maybe that would help.”
“As long as you don’t mind, that would be great.  Thanks, Jared.”  They finished the conversation as Bella exited the bathroom.   “Hey Bell.  I need to take care of some of your mom’s things, so I am going to have you spend the night with the Padaleckis’.”  Bella nodded without much emotion, still processing the events of the last few weeks.  “I’m going to leave you now, but be good, okay?  Call me if you need me.”  With that, he got in his car and left the studio lot.
“You tell me if you feel like hurting yourself.  I will go all ‘protective dad’ on you if you don’t.”  Jared said on the way back to the apartment.  She turned but her eyes looked through him.
“I can’t feel.  I can’t- I don’t know what to do,” Bella said plainly.
“I’ve been there.  I know.”  He put a protective hand over hers.  “I’ll help you.”
________
It was late when they arrived at the Padaleckis’.  Jared sat down with her in the living room with a few things in his hands.  “So, I got some things to keep your brain busy.”  He put a journal in front of her on the table.  “This,” he motioned, “is to let it all out.  This is to clench when you get overwhelmed.”  He showed her a stress ball.  “And this is for when you need to scream.”  Jared pointed to a pillow that he put on the couch.  “There are a few other things for you in your room to keep your hands occupied, but I think we can do this.  What do you think?” Jared looked over at Bella.
“Jelly?”
“What, Bean?”
“I am so confused.  Like on what to think.  It’s like my brain is frozen and I can’t- I don’t know.  I’m not making sense.”
“No, it’s okay.  Why don’t we just hang tight tonight?  Day off tomorrow anyway.  Oh, one more thing,” he pulled something out of his travel backpack.  Jared plopped a black hoodie in her lap.  “Just a little reminder to always keep fighting.  I love you.”

Age 4
“Give me my chocolate!” Carter Grayson growled with crossed arms.
“What are you, four?” Jensen rebuked. “You ate my gummies! I get your chocolate!” He smirked.
“I AM four, stupidhead. And I did not eat gummies!” Carter stomped her left foot and defended herself while wearing gummy remnants on her lips.
Kori looked at her daughter and told her, “Uncle Jensen saw you, sweetheart.” Carter’s mom giggled. “How about he gets ONE square of chocolate? Small price to pay for someone who takes care of you a lot.” She winked at her neighbor. “Thank you for taking care of my girl, by the way.”
“Of course. I love the little troublemaker. Here, Carter, I took one square.” He took a bite of his piece of chocolate and handed the larger piece back to her. “No more sweets for you today. You’ll have gummy tummy later.”
“Give me the chocolate,” Kori commanded her daughter. Carter sighed but did as asked. “Go play in your room please.” She turned to Jensen as Carter left. “Thank you for watching her tonight. I know that wouldn’t be your first choice to watch your neighbors’ kid so that her parents can go on a date while you are working 90 hours a week on a TV show.
“It’s fine! Relax. If you keep making a big deal about it, I won’t do it. Just have fun tonight.”
“We will, thanks. I’m meeting the hubby at the restaurant, so I need to go.” Kori smiled.
“Go! Tell Steve he better treat you extra special. You deserve it.”
“He knows it, trust me.” Kori laughed. “Thanks, Jensen.”

Age 11
“Boys?” Jensen raises an eyebrow. “I’m tagging along. No way you’re going by yourself. You are eleven years old.”
“It’s a group thing, Jensen. And my mom and dad-“
“Your parents are on vacation. You are staying with me while they’re gone. I’m in charge. No. I’m going with you.”
“You suck.”
“If it keeps you and the other kids safe, I really don’t care. Besides, one look at me, and the boys will stay in line.” Jensen said, stone-faced.
“That’s what I am afraid of.”
“I’ll take you to set with me this week if you behave yourself and trust me on this.”
“REALLY?” Carter squealed. Jensen covered his ears.
“My word, child. Shush!”
————-
Age 12
“Carter! Get your crap, we have to go to the Ackles’!” Her dad yelled up the stairs.
“Yeah, yeah. Coming!”
“Steve, you ready? Oh, you look so handsome!”  Kori took in her husband’s black tie attire.
“M’lady. You are magnificent!” Steve returned the compliment, viewing his wife’s sparkly, floor-length dress.
“Eww. Can we go now, lovebirds?” Carter walked down the stairs. “If we’re late and I miss part of the movie, Jensen will kick my a-“
“Ahem,” Steve cleared his throat.
“Butt. We made a bet and now I have to sit through a crappy movie that I despise.”
“If you’re word choices don’t change, you won’t be going anywhere near Jensen for the foreseeable future, you understand? I will have a talk with him about this.” Kori smirked to herself but kept a straight-lipped expression.
“I’ll be good, don’t do that!”  Carter scrambled.
“Alright! Everyone in the car, let’s go!”
————-
“Remember, behave. No smart-alec rudeness either.” Kori wanted her daughter to be a little angel.
“Mom, I am twelve. I will be good. But I will also be with Jensen and Dee. You never know what will happen.”  Carter giggled.
“Please just be alive tomorrow when we come pick you up, okay?” Kori rolled her eyes.
“Yes, mother.”
As the three were entering the intersection closest to Jensen and Danneel’s Vancouver apartment, Carter heard a crunch against the passenger side of the car. Sitting in the rear driver’s side seat, she saw the passenger-side door folding toward her. Her dad slammed on the brakes. The car rolled many times as the occupants screamed.
_______
“BABE!”  Danneel screamed urgently.  Jensen ran into the living room.  “Watch this!” She pointed to the TV. “There is a crash downstairs.  Look at the car! Jay, I- I think that’s the Graysons’ car!” Danneel panicked.
“I don’t think- Oh my go- Okay.  I’ll go down and look.  Deep breaths.  It might not be them.” Jensen took Danneel by her shoulders and guided her to the couch.  “Turn this off or change the channel, you understand me?”  Danneel’s expression was blank and her face turned white. “HEY!”  Jensen snapped her back to reality.
“Oh. Right.”
“I’ll call you once I find out.”
_______

“Hey! Wake up, sweetheart!  Wake up, you gotta wake up for me.”
“Huh?”  Carter shook her head as she took in the environment around her.
“OW!”  She felt her neck and back screaming at her.
“Don’t move, sweetheart.  What’s your name?”  The EMT prompted her.
“Car-” she lost her concentration.
Jensen ran into the street and came up on Carter a few seconds later. She was flat on her back near the car.
“Carter!”  Jensen almost fainted.
“Sir, back up!”  The EMT stood from his kneeling position and pushed Jensen a few feet away.  “Her name is Carter?”  Jensen nodded.  “What’s her last name?”
“Uhh…”  He couldn’t think.  “Grayson.  She was with her parents, Kori and Steve Grayson.”  Jensen started breathing heavily.  “Are they okay?”
“Sir, I’ve only been attending to Carter, your…?”
“Niece.  She’s my niece.  I’m Jensen.”
“I need to get her stabilized on the stretcher.  I promise we will take care of her.  We will be going to Vancouver Mercy if you want to follow.”
“Umm… okay.  Carter!”  Jensen yelled to his favorite kid, “I’ll meet you there, okay?  I love you!”  Jensen used all of his strength to not rush to her.
“Love you,” Carter whispered.
_______
Jensen called Danneel from the street and told her that the family was on the way to the hospital.  Danneel met him at their garage space and they sped off.
“Carter Grayson, please!”  The nurse at the hospital doors looked up their niece in the system. She told them that Carter had just arrived, and the doctors were assessing her.
“What about her parents?  Are they being brought in?”  Jensen asked with a grief-stricken expression.
An officer walked through the entrance as Jensen and Danneel asked the nurse for assistance.
“Carter Grayson?”  The officer asked Jensen.
“Yes, sir.  She was in an accident.”
“I’m investigating it.  Who are you?”
“Jensen Ackles.  This is my wife, Danneel.  We are her uncle and aunt.  Where are her parents?”
“I’m sorry,  sir -“
Jensen fell into Danneel.  Since he weighed so much more than her, he knocked her over, both of them landing on the  floor.
“What,” Jensen processed.
He curled into Danneel on the floor without tears.  Shocked, he lied there.  Danneel was aching for Carter, as she knew they would be the ones to tell her about Steve and Kori.
After some time, “I’m sorry, Jay.  I’m so sorry.  Come on, we have to get off the floor.  Let’s go sit in those chairs over there.”  Danneel calmly whispered.  She gently pushed him off of her lap, stood up, and took his hand.  “Only a few steps.” He crash-landed into a lumpy, uncomfortable chair.
“I- I can’t.  Carter-” he babbled without any meaning.
“I know.  I know.”  Danneel ran her fingers through his hair.
“Ma’am, do you know anything about the accident?”
“No, we saw it on the news.  It’s just downstairs from where we live.  They were coming over to drop her off for the night.  Please, please let us see her.  She’s just a kid.  She needs someone with her.”
“I know she does.  They have to stabilize her body first.  She was tossed around a lot, so much that she landed outside of the car.”
“AHHH!” Jensen yelled in frustration. “Stop!  She-” he interrupted his own thought but stood from the chair.
“Jensen, breathe.  Sir, can we continue this later?”  Danneel turned away from soothing Jensen.
“Of course.  It was my mistake.  I’m sorry, sir.”  The investigator walked to the corner of the waiting room and sat down.
______
Jensen had fallen asleep against the wall next to his chair a few hours after they arrived.  They had not been given any updates, and although the Ackles’ were worried, Jensen’s tiredness took over.  Danneel spoke to the investigator as they waited.  She found out that Steve had not been wearing his seatbelt.  If he had, he may have survived as Carter did since the impact was on the passenger side.  Kori was dead instantly.  The other car’s front end killed her immediately.  Danneel wiped away tears as she took in the information.  Her friends were gone, and her niece was all alone in this world now. Soon after finishing their conversation, Danneel fell asleep against Jensen’s shoulder.
“Mrs. Ackles?”  The investigator gently woke her up an hour later.  “She is ready for visitors.”
“Jensen,” Danneel sat up straight, “Carter is awake.”  He woke and turned to see Danneel standing. “Come on, babe.”
“I’ve already told her about her parents.  I was going ask you to do it, but she was very persuasive,” the investigator explained. Jensen sighed. “She was asking for you.  She needs you both.  Please be there for her.  I’m begging you.  I’ve seen this many times.  Carter needs-”
“We got it, 5-0.  Can we go now?”  Jensen asked curtly.
“Of course, room 512.”  The man walked them to Carter’s room.  Before they entered, Danneel looked around the edge of the doorframe to see her niece in tears.
“Oh, baby.”  Danneel whispered under her breath.  She entered first.  “Hi, pumpkin.”  Danneel kept an even voice.
“Dee!  They’re gone!”  Carter shrieked. She was trying to escape her blankets to run to her aunt, but Danneel ran over to meet her before she could do that.  She sat down on the bed next to her.  “Try not to move too much, okay?  You’re body is really messed up right now.”
“Jensen,”  Carter whispered as he entered.
“Hey, boo,” he whispered to her.  Jensen walked to the other side of the bed and kissed her hairline.  “We’re here.  We’ll always be here.”
_______
“So… What happens now?” Carter asked the state case worker.
“Well, your parents had it in their will that you would be placed in the custody of Mr. Ackles.” The lady looked at Jensen.
“If you want to, of course. If you want to go live with family, I totally understand.” Jensen stuttered.
“You would take me? I can’t. You’re so busy. I don’t want to bug you, Jay. Besides, Dee-.”
Danneel walked in.
“Dee wants you to come with us so bad. But it’s up to you.” Danneel smiled.
“Really?!”  Carter smiles for the first time in days.
“Yes. We love you. Always.”
————-
“I can’t. I can’t go in our apartment.” Carter sat in Jensen’s car on the street.
“It’s fine. Really. We have movers, sweetheart. Dee, stay with her while I get some of her stuff.” Jensen exited the car but turned around. “School stuff, blanket, iPad and squirrel stuffed animal, right?”
“Please?” Carter asked.
He stuck his head through the window and kissed her forehead. Of course.”
—————
When Jensen came back from the Graysons’ apartment, Danneel was in the backseat with Carter, cradling her head. In tears, Carter told Danneel how she wanted to leave.
“Get in and drive, Jensen.” His wife commanded. He climbed in and looked back at his girls.
“I’m so sorry, boo. I shouldn’t have had you come.” He turned back to start the car.
“It’s okay, Jay. I thought I would be okay.”
———
Danneel heard a consistent sound that she didn’t recognize. She walked to Carter’s room, formerly their guest room, and heard crying. Danneel knocked.
“Sweetheart? I’m coming in.” Danneel knew. She just knew why Carter was crying. She ached for Carter. She wanted everything to go back the way it was for the twelve year-old’s sake. Danneel walked in to find Carter’s eyes raw from contact with tissues. Her face was puffy. Carter wiped away the tears.
“Sorry. I’m okay.”
“No. You’re not. It’s okay not to be fine, Carter. It’s only been a few weeks. Since it’s a slower day, why don’t we lay low? Jensen will be home later, maybe we can put for something to eat. Come here,” she opened her arms and Carter lost it. She cried until there were no tears left.
“Thank you.” Carter sat up and looked at Danneel.
“You’re welcome. Don’t feel like you’re alone. We’re all grieving. You can always come to us. We lost people we loved. It’s okay to grieve.”
————
When Jensen got home that afternoon, Carter was asleep, tired from all of her emotions showing through tears. Danneel explained that she thought Carter would benefit from an outing or some exercise. When Carter woke up, she was told to change into loose clothing and tennis shoes.
“I don’t want to go out.”
“Why? We already said that’s what we were going to do. Besides, you need some Jensen time.”
“I’m not going.” Carter gritted her teeth.
“Go. Change.” Jensen used a deep voice. She rolled her eyes and stomped off.
“Yeah for tween years?” Jensen asked.
“She needs this. She’s been in her room for weeks.”
“Okay. We’ll find something she can do.” Jensen turned and saw Carter approach. “Ready?”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes. Ackles’ House Rule #2,341: Always listen to Jensen.”  He broke into a laugh. After a breath, he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and guided her to their office/in-home gym.
“No.”
“What? You said you didn’t want to go out. This isn’t going out. If you keep digging your heels in, I will carry you outside myself. Now, come on!”  Jensen walked in first. Carter slumped her shoulders and followed. Before her she saw boxing gloves and a punching bag.
“I’ve never done this before.”
“Exactly.” Jensen started wrapping her hands with tape.
“What?”
“We are giving you control over something you’ve never done before.  Right now you don’t have much control of anything. We are going to change that. Right now.”  When he was finished, he showed her how to take a stance. Once she was ready, he picked up some pads and told her to hit them. After a few punches, she put her hands down.
“I can’t do this.”
“Says you who has been a rockstar. Part of having control is trying when it’s hard. Do you trust me, boo?”
“Yes.”
“I’ll know when to stop you. You’re doing great. Just keep going. I know you’re upset. Anyone would be. Punch the pads. Get it out. You’ll sleep better.”
She punched and punched until Jensen stopped her. Carter fell to the wood floor and froze.
“You okay?” Jensen tried to read her reaction. She didn’t respond. “We can be quiet for a little while. It’s okay. You did good, boo.” He sat against the nearest wall and pulled her tiny frame with him. They sat like that until she fell asleep from exhaustion.
“Jens-“ Danneel called for her husband but stopped when she took in the scene before her.
“Shhh. She’s finally relaxed enough to sleep,” he spoke in a whisper.
“Sorry. You okay like that? Doesn’t look comfortable.”
“Yeah. I’ll carry her to bed in a little while,” Jensen said as he stroked Carter’s hair. Jensen ended up falling asleep in the gym cradling Carter.
In the middle of the night, he woke and carried her to bed.
“Stay.” Carter reaches for him as he walked away. “Please.”
“Okay,” he whispered back. “Go to sleep.” Jensen pulled out the trundle bed, grabbed a blanket, and fell asleep in his niece’s room.
———-
Age 13
“I have a question for you.”  Jensen knocked on Carter’s door.
“Okay…” she cocked her head to the side. Carter sat up on her bed.
“Do you want to go to set with me tomorrow?”
She smiled widely. It soon turned to a scowl.
“I can’t. I have school. You always say I can’t go to set on school days.”
“Exigent circumstances. Look,” he walked in, “Bob needs extras for a scene, and-“
“YES!” Carter ran into Jensen’s arms. “Please?”
“Yes, but,” he stepped away from her, “the reason he wanted me to ask you because he knows you will follow directions.  He doesn’t want kids that will mess around. You still in?”
“Abso-fuc-“
“Woah!” He raised a brow. “Don’t make me tell Dee you just tried that.”
“Sorry,” Carter giggled. “I’ll do it. I’ll be good, promise.”
———
“Okay, Carter!” Bob yelled. “Action!”
Carter ran with a fake gun at her side, leading the group of kids in the scene. She scanned the area, playing scared. When Mark Shepard stepped into the alley, they froze.
“I see you baby hunters. Don’t mess with me. I do bad things to people who get in my way.” Crowley growled.
Carter acted terrified, motioning for the other kids to run in different directions.
“And cut! Moving on!”
Carter walked to her dad’s cast chair.
“Hey, boo. You did great!”
“Thanks, Jay.” Carter smiled.  “It was fun.”
“Carter!” Bob called. She turned to face him.
“Yes, sir?”
“Get over here!”
Her face went white, and she looked at Jensen. He shrugged. Carter ran over to the director.
“I need a few more background people for this next scene. The main extra is nowhere to be found. All you have to do is run into Jensen and stumble. He’ll tell you to get out of the way and  then the camera will follow him. That’s it. Do you think you can handle that?”
Her face lit up.
“Yes, please!”
“Okay, you’re mark is the purple one over there. We’ll call you when we’re ready.”
———
“And action, Jensen!”
Dean walks quickly next to Sam as they leave the diner. Kids file in, the first one shoulder-checks Dean.
“Watch it, half-pint. Stupid kids.”
Main extra rolls her eyes. Camera follows Dean and Sam out of the building.
“And cut! Break for lunch, people!  Carter!”
She walked to Bob.
“Thank you for helping us out today.”
“‘Course! You know I love coming here.”
“I appreciate you taking this seriously.”
“Hey, I get to miss school. I’m not complaining!”  Carter giggled.
————
Age 16
“Stop. We can talk to him, but no guarantees. You’ve already asked me, and I gave you my answer that we have to ask Jensen. He and I are a team. We will talk about it. He isn’t here right now. If you ask me again, you’re phone is mine for the night. Knock it off.”
“Dee!”
“Fine. Give it.”  She extended her hand.
“Ugh!” Carter handed her the phone.
“Homework. Go.”
—————
Jensen walked through the door later that night.
“Why are you pouting?” He saw Carter with crosses arms on the couch.
“I took her phone.”  Danneel entered.
“Oh.” He put his wallet and keys away. Jensen walked back into the living room. “Bad day, boo?”
“Dee wouldn’t answer me.”  Carter rolled her eyes.
“About what? Were you rude about it?” He looked at her and wrapped his arm around her.
“I bugged her, so she took my phone.”
“She wants to act.”  Danneel sat next to Jensen.
“Some casting person approached her when we got coffee today.
“No.”  Jensen growled.
“But-“
“I told her it was a discussion for you and I.  She has presented what she wants, now you and I need to talk about it. That’s what I said.”  Danneel explained.
“Jay, I want to.”
“No.”
“You haven’t even talked to Dee yet. I’ll shut up about it once you guys talk. Please.” Carter begged.
“No.”
“Some parent you are!  You know, it’s not like my life has been easy!  Thanks a lot for taking care of me! My parents would let me do it!”  Carter screamed.
Without missing a beat, Jensen responded lowly, “Go to your room before you say something else you’ll regret.”
Carter stomped down the hallway.
“Well, that went well.”  Danneel took a breath.
—————-
“Hey,” Jensen knocked.
“Sorry.”  Carter sighed as he entered.
“Talk to me.”  He sat on her floor next to her bed where she was sitting.
“It’s almost that day. I’m just angry again.  It’s hard to be here when I should have died too.”
“Hey!”  Jensen yelled. She snapped up to look at him. “You were not meant to die that day. It’s not your fault, it’s that driver’s fault.  You are going to live. You are going to do well in this life because you are sweet, kind, and determined.  You understand?”
“Yeah, right.” She rolled her eyes.
“Come here,” Jensen took her hand and had her stand up. “Repeat after me.”
“No, it’s fine. I don’t want to. I know what you’re doing, Jay.”
“Boo, just one. ‘I am worth this life.’” Jensen prompted.
“I am worth this life.”
“I love you,” he pulled her into a hug. “I know it’s hard. I’m sorry. We just want what’s best for you. Once things calm down, we’ll talk.  Emotions are too high right now.  How about a movie and popcorn?”
“Sounds perfect.” Carter smiled into his chest.
————-
A few days later, “You are allowed to be an extra. Only an extra.”  Danneel told Carter.  “We talked about it, and that’s what was decided.”
“Really?!”  Carter grinned. “I’ll take it, I don’t care!”  She ran into Danneel’s arms.
“BUT- If you fall behind in school or become irresponsible about it, you’re done.”
“I won’t, promise!”
Later that evening, Carter yelled for Jensen’s attention.
“I got called for Supernatural tomorrow!”
“You did?”  Jensen walked into the room.
“Yep!  I’ll be good!”  Carter bounded toward her uncle and wrapped her arms around him.
“I know you will be.”  He embraced her.  “You’ll have to come with me to set though, Dee has something else to do tomorrow.”
“YES!” She pumped her first in the air.
“Only my child would be this excited to wait all day on a cold set.”
They both froze.
“I am so sorry, kiddo. I didn’t mean that I’m taking the place of- I didn’t mean it.” He stuttered.
She ran into his arms again. “I love you. Uncle Jensen.”
“I love you too, boo.”
“You are NOT allowed to call me that tomorrow.” She said, serious.
“Oh yeah? Watch me!”
She slapped his arm as he ran the length of the living room. When she caught up to him, he threw her over his shoulder and dropped her on the couch.
“You’ll always be my boo. Scardy cat.”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
————
“Wakey, wakey, eggs and bakey!”
“Ungff.”
“Come on! You wanted to do this!” Jensen took off Carter’s blankets and watched as she curled into herself.
“You suck.”
“You’re going to suck if you’re late. Casting will kill me and you. Up and at ‘em!” Jensen smiled.
————-
“I need Carter and Kyle, please!” The PA announced on the empty set where the extras were housed for the day. They walked over to her. “Come with me, please.”  The three exited the stage. “I need you two to sit on this bench here. Are you comfortable pretending to be in a relationship?”
“Ummm… Okay,” Carter looked at Kyle.
“That’s fine.”
“The script calls for the female to kiss him on the cheek and then he takes her hand after Dean’s line of ‘Sam, knock it off.’”.
“Okay, thank you.”
—————
Jensen didn’t see his niece in the scene since she was so far in the background. The scene started, and the couple waited for their cue. When they heard it, they played their part. Jensen caught the action peripherally. He did not think much of it until the couple’s kiss ended. Without him calling for the director to cut, he stomped over to them.
“Who the hell approved you playing tonsil hockey with my kid?”  Jensen growled at the boy.
“You’re his daughter? Great.” Kyle rolled his eyes.
“It was me, sir.”  The production assistance came out from behind the cameras.
“DO NOT allow her to kiss him. She is not here to do that.  Put her somewhere else. You’re new around here, I can tell.  This is Carter.  She will not be kissing anyone while we are on set. Ever!”
“Jensen! Stop!” Carter stood from her seat. “I kissed him on the cheek. I’ve done more than that with boys I know, this is nothing.”
“What?!” Jensen yelled for everyone to hear.
“I’m sorry, ma’am.  Excuse my uncle. He is a pompous ass! Do your job, Jensen! Just like I’m doing mine!”
“Trailer, now!”  Jensen ordered.
“NO! I wasn’t doing anything wrong!”
“Carter, get moving or I swear-“
Carter made a beeline for his home away from home. “And you? Walk away.”  He groaned at the PA. “Find another girl for this.  Stay away from her, Mr. Suave.” Jensen stared at Kyle.
He stalked back to his trailer after his scene with Jared.
“Jens-“
“Shut up.” Jensen towered over Carter as she sat on the couch. “This is not what I want. Go home. Take Cliff.”
“No.” Carter said. “This is part of the job. I know it. You know it. Would you have taken the opportunity to kiss a pretty girl and get paid for it in high school?”
“That’s not-“
“Exactly. Point proven.  Now, if you’ll get out of my way, I have a job to do.” She stood up.
“SIT. YOUR ASS. DOWN.”
“Stop! Obviously you don’t care. It’s fine! It’s not like I haven’t been through shit already. I don’t need you. I’ll go live my life elsewhere!”  Carter screamed at her uncle, squaring up to him.
“I care because I love you! Don’t you get it? You should have told me that you would be in the background kissing that- ugh!”
“Kyle! His name is Kyle! And no, he was not inappropriate. He treated me like a lady, and I was doing just fine until Uncle Awesome showed up! You know, you've ruined everything for me lately! I’m just trying to- to live and you ruin it with rules and stuff. Why can’t I-“ she was interrupted with a hug from Jensen. She quieted from the surprise.
He whispered, “I know this week has been hard. And I also know why. I came down hard on you because I want to protect you.  Your parents left me to protect you. I just- would hate for something to happen to you.  It isn’t some powerplay.”
Carter started to sniffle into Jensen’s flannel.
“I miss them. I want them back. Please can I have them back?” She sobbed into his chest. Carter collapsed into him. He caught her and guided her to the trailer couch.
“I want them back too, boo. I do. For you and me.”
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” she spoke barely above a whisper.
“No, no. Calm down. You’re okay.”  Jensen could tell her breathing was intensifying. “No, relax. I know it’s hard but you can do it.”  He sang for her. She felt his voice rumble through his chest, calming her. His cologne and the smell of flannel entered her nose, leaving her still. “Good girl.  I got you. I got you.”
“Put me somewhere else. I’m not going home.” Carter walked back on set.  The PA looked at Jensen for approval.
“Fine.” Jensen grunted. “But do not EVER do this again,” he sternly ordered the PA.  Jensen relaxed and dropped his act with a wink to Carter.  His niece giggled at his sudden change in attitude.
“Yes, sir.”  The staff member looked at the ground.  “We’ll have you at the tables over here with these girls, please.”  The PA guided Carter over.
The scenes for the day went well after the disagreement.
“You having fun?” Jensen smiled at his niece as she walked over to him.
“I really wanted to kiss a boy, but…”
“Keep it up and I’ll send you to Texas,” he gave a sarcastic laugh.
“You’re horrible!”  Carter laughed and shoved his shoulder.
“I know, but it has rubbed off on you!”
“Oh, great! Thanks a lot, Jay!” Carter recovered from her giggle attack.
————-
“Daddy!”  Carter kicked the empty space on her bed.
Danneel and Jensen heard her yell. They ran into her room.
Danneel shook Carter to wake her up.
“Hey, Carter,” she whispered to not scare her, “wake up, baby.”  Carter continued screaming.
“Mom! No!” She thrashed. Jensen got in front of Danneel and brought Carter to a sitting position. She woke up. “Jay? Huh?”
“Breathe. It was just a dream, sweetie,” Danneel soothed her with a rub on the arm.
“I’m so sorry, guys,” Carter sucked I’m a breath and let it out. “I just- I miss them.”  She wiped away her tears..
“We know, it’s all good.” Jensen kissed the top of her head.
“Why?” Carter asked.
Danneel turned the bedroom light on.
“Why what, sweetheart?” She responded.
“I don’t understand it. Why did this all happen? It’s been four years, and my heart aches. Like I could get sick.”  Carter started coughing. She pointed to her trash can. Jensen grabbed it and put it in front of her face. She threw up into the bucket right as Jensen placed it on her lap.
“Oh, baby,” Jensen rubbed her back. Danneel handed her a towel and some water from the bathroom. “Honestly, I don’t know why. But for whatever reason you were chosen to keep living.”
After she wiped her mouth, Carter said, “I know, but I would do anything to have them back. Even make a deal at the crossroads,” she gave a dry laugh.
“That is not even close to funny, boo.”  Jensen lightly scolded. “You’re still here for a reason. Hopefully you’ll know why someday. I know i probably wouldn’t be here if you had gone too.”
She let that sink in.
“What?” Carter faced him.
“I love you to the moon. I don’t know what I would have done if my favorite girl was gone.  You saved me during that time. Your parents got me through a lot and I loved you because you are just like them.  Maybe sassier, actually,” he laughed once.
“I saved you?” She confusedly narrowed her eyes.
“Well, yeah.  I couldn’t lose all three of you.  You make life fun. You laugh a lot. That’s probably my favorite thing about you. And you also give me structure and purpose. My time is devoted to serving my family. You have always been my boo, but I love taking care of you. You’ll always be that little girl who ate my gummies.” He smirked at the memory.
“I DID NOT eat them!”
“You had it all over your face!” Jensen retorted.
“Okay, fine.  Maybe I did…” Carter leaned into Jensen.
“And finally the truth comes out. Twelve years later.”

“How are the strategies working? It’s been a week.”
“Good. I carry one of my dad’s flannels with me. I keep it in my backpack when I’m at school and pull it out if I get anxious.”  YN smiled.
“Great, so no blackouts?”
“No. Close calls, but I grabbed the flannel to keep me calm. It works. No meds for me!” YN giggled.
“I’m so, so happy for you,” Dr. Wiley grinned.
“Baby, here’s a flannel.  I wore it last week for you.  And I sprayed it with my cologne.  Should last you a while,”  Jensen smiled, knowing he wouldn’t see her for the next seven days.  “Smells like me, I promise.” He handed her the shirt.
“This smells like ‘convention’, Dad.” YN huffed but accepted it.
“No it doesn’t! I didn’t wear it for our last-”
“I’m kidding!” YN giggled. “Thank you, Daddy.”
“You never call me that anymore, sweetheart.  You okay?  You haven’t had any attacks, have you?”  Jensen narrowed his eyes and tightened his lips.
“Oh, no.  I’m okay.  I just…”
“What?”  He walked over to her and sat next to her on the couch.
“I wish you were here more.”
“I know.  But we are almost on a break.  You can have me all you want before the wedding. I hope you’re excited.  If it’s ever too much, you tell me.  Okay?”
“I’m excited.  And I’m excited for you.  I know she makes you happy.”
“Does she make you happy?  You two took a while to get along.”
“Dad, you’ve been dating for a few years.  I like her.  And I know you like her.  That’s good enough for me. She is cool.  And she’s sassy like me.  I don’t know what you were thinking having two of us in your life.”  YN laughed. Jensen shoved her shoulder as revenge for her comment.
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Dad.”
_______
“You ready?”  Danneel was standing with a hand extended to YN.
“Yes,”  YN smiled brightly.
“Thanks for being my maid of honor.  You look gorgeous.”  Danneel smiled back.
“Not more gorgeous than the bride.”  YN could not believe how beautiful her future step-mother looked.
“Let’s show your dad how we impress.”  Danneel took her hand and pulled her from a seated position.  “I love you, YN.”
“Ditto.”
______
When YN walked down the aisle in her maid of honor dress, Jensen teared up.
She looks beautiful.
YN took her place in front of the crowd across from Jensen.  He gave her a wink. She smiled.
Soon after, the music started and Danneel walked through the doors.  Jensen’s eyes widened.  As his bride-to-be approached him, he was speechless.
Throughout the wedding, Danneel kept eyeing YN.  YN was curious why she was acting strangely. When it was time for the vows, Jensen and Danneel exchanged them, but stopped before the kiss. Jensen called YN up to him.
“What?”  She whispered to him.
“Stand next to me,” Jensen motioned. YN picked up her dress and walked up the step to stand with her dad. He turned her around to face Danneel.
Danneel pulled out a piece of paper.  She began, “YN, you are one of the strongest people I know.  We started off rough, but I love you.  I love you like my own.  Be patient with me as our family is changing.  I promise to love you and your dad with all my heart.  I also promise to give you the sass that you give me.” They both smirked.  “I’m so happy that you two area package deal.  He is amazing mostly because he has you. He wouldn’t be who he is without you, so thank you for making him amazing.”
YN wiped away a tear.  She mouthed an “I love you” to her now step-mom.
———
At the reception, everyone danced and had a great time.  YN and Danneel grooved to the music while Jensen talked with friends. Throughout the evening, Jensen checked on his daughter with a wink or smile. She glowed with happiness for her dad. As the party ended, she said goodbye to Jensen and Danneel as they set off for their honeymoon. I started to walk across the street to her grandma’s car. As she saw the walk symbol appear, she stepped out into the street. All of a sudden she heard her name being called. When she turned, a car came out of nowhere and got her in the thigh. She flew over the hood, hit the windshield, and rolled over the top of the car. Her back hit the road.
“YN!” Jensen ran to his daughter. “Baby!” Her grandpa and Jared ran next to him until they were on their knees to shake her. “Hey, YN! Wake up!” Jensen screamed. He saw her eyes close. He shook her as her muscles relaxed.
“Sir, move!” EMTs surrounded YN. Jared forcefully pulled Jensen away from her so that the emergency specialists could address her appropriately.
The men froze. Time stood still as the EMTs worked. A few minutes later, an EMT approached the men. “I’m sorry, sir. She’s gone.”

No, you may not.” Sam commands..
“Dad,” Bella’s character, Bella starts, “you can’t control me forever.”
“No, of course not.”
“Then why have you been acting so weird? Something happen?” Jensen asked.
“I’m fi-“ she started.
“You are not!” Jensen yelled, not realizing his forceful tone.
“Jensen!” Jared admonished his friend. The oldest actor closed his mouth in realization. “Why don’t you go run lines with Rich?” He looked at his TV brother straight in the face.
“Right. Sorry, Bella.” Jensen left the Supernatural father-daughter duo to talk.
“I gotta go,” she ran off to her trailer.
“Nice job, Jensen.” Jared growled.
Jared walked over to Bella’s trailer.  He knocked.
“Jelly?” He waited.  Jared heard scuffles and a slam.  Bella met him at the door with puffy eyes.  He noticed her right sleeve pulled down passed her wrist.
_______
“Gen!”  Bella saw Jared’s wife on the set.
“Hey, B!  How you doing?” Gen gave her a hug.
“Good!  I miss your babies!  Where are they?” Bella rubbed her arms.
“At home, I am here on business.”  Gen responded.
“Oh darn, well maybe I can see them next time.”
“I’m going to see Jared, I’ll see you later.” Gen walked off.
When she greeted Jared, she asked him, “Is something up with Bella? She seemed reserved. I mean, she said hi, but she- I don’t know. She kept scratching her arms.”
“Darlin’, I just want you to be-”
“STOP, YOU ASS!”
“Come on, Jelly.  You’re scaring us, that’s all. Please tell me what’s wrong. Please.”
“Don’t ask me. Please don’t ask me that.”  Bella refused to answer his question.

Right now this is a four part series.  Enjoy!

Bella walked out of her trailer toward the makeup trailer. She entered through the door to see Jensen having his hair styled.
“Good morning, Jenny. Hair’s looking good today.” She snickered.
“Ass.” Jensen responded to her feminization of his name. You take longer than me, idiot.” He rolled his eyes playfully at his TV niece.
“Whatever, old man.” Bella laughed. “Where is my father?”
“You mean Samantha? He’s coming.”
“Cool, I can’t wait to get him back for yesterday.”
“Good luck with that, kid.” He smirked.
————-
“Hello, father,”she smiled.
“Hello, daughter,” he laughed.
“You realize you two aren’t related, right?” Jensen entered the conversation.
“We should be,” Bella giggled.
“I really don’t like having two of you,” the oldest whined.
“You love us, uncle.”
“Whatever.”
———
“Hey, kiddo.” Jared walked into Bella’s trailer.
“Hey!  What’s up?”
“Just checking on you.”
“Oh, nothing.  Just reading through my lines.”  Bella grinned.
“Cool,” he sat down next to her.  “You just seem withdrawn, that’s all.  You sure you’re okay?”
Bella shifted.
“Just a lot going on.  I needed some me time before the next scene.”
“You’ll tell me if it gets too much, right?  I love you.”
“Of course.  I love you too.”
______
“Hey, Jared!” Bella walked over to her TV father on the set of Supernatural. Jared engulfed her in a hug.
“I missed you, Jelly.” He whispered into her hair with a laugh.
“You too, Bean.” Bella grinned at their nicknames, knowing they had seen each other the previous day.
“Hey, Bella!” Her TV uncle, Jensen walked across the set to say hi to her.
“Hi Jay.” She spoke into his shirt as he kissed the top of her head.
“You doing good?”
“Yep! Jelly!” She turned her attention back to Jared.
“What?”
“I missed Jensen more than you!” Bella smirked.
“I’m her favorite!” Jensen smiled and put a territorial hand on her shoulder.
“Whatever, Bella! I see how it is. Go bother him for a while. He’ll get tired of you and send you back.” He cackled.
“I would never get tired of my favorite cast member.” Jensen pulled Bella to him in a hug while they all laughed at the silly interaction.
———-
“Whatever, Dean. I was just trying to help. Excuse me,” Bella stomped away off camera in character.
“I would hurt you if you ever left water stains on Baby, you know that, right?” Jensen said with a grudge to Bella.
“Yes, Jensen.” She rolled her eyes. “Because you’ve got a stick up your a-“
“Woah!” Jared walked back to the conversation. “Words, much?”
“You cuss all the time. What’s the problem with me doing it?” Bella raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t want my daughter to talk like that.”
“Oh really, Dad? Because you set such a great example.” She and Jensen snickered.
“Oh, shut up!” Her TV father dismissed them with a laugh.
“Let’s get some lunch.”
———
“You not hungry?” Jared saw that Bella’s plate was empty after going through the buffet line. “Stomach ache or something?”
“Yeah, not feeling too good.” She grabbed her midsection.
“You want some meds or something? Where’s your mom?” Jensen asked.
“I’ll be okay. Thanks. She isn’t here today. I’m eighteen, dude. I don’t need a guardian on set.”
“I know, it’s just that she’s here sometimes. You don’t look so good, kiddo.” Jensen reached up and felt her forehead. “I don’t think you have a fever though.”
“Why don’t you rest in your trailer? We’ll check on you later.” Jared nodded toward her on-set humble abode.
“Okay, thanks.” Bella picked up her plate and walked toward her trailer door.
“Hope she’s okay,” Jared sighed.
————
“Better?” Jared saw Bella walking over to him on set after lunch.
“A little. Nap helped.” She gave a small smile.
“Good, kiddo. Let us know if you’re feeling worse, okay?” Jared wrapped an arm around her.
“Yes, sir.”
————
“She’s acting weird.” Jensen noticed Bella hiding in the corner of the set.
“I know. She didn’t even go for the joke when I set her up to get Misha.” Jared stated, concerned. They walked over to her, and Jared tapped her on the shoulder. She turned.
“Hey, you okay?” Jared used a quiet voice.
“Yeah, I’m good. Why?” Bella quizzically asked. Jensen reaches up and felt her forehead. “Dude! Stop doing that! Gah!” She pushed his hand down. “Knock it off!”
“Woah!” Jensen put both of his hands up and backed away. “Sorry, Bella. We just-“
“Go away,” she whispered.
They finished their scene and ended for the day. After getting off work, the boys went for drinks.
“Now that I think about it, she has been acting different for a while now. Something is up. I just can’t put my finger on it.” Jared sighed in defeat.
“Yeah, I’m not sure. She hasn’t said anything.  Tomorrow we need to ask her.”
————
“Jelly!  Come here!”  Jared called for Bella across the lot.
“What, Bean?”  She walked up to him.
“Aren’t you hot?  It’s like 85 degrees (29.4 C) and you’re wearing a huge sweatshirt.”
“No, I’m cold.”
“Are you fighting a fever?” Jared grew concerned.
“Maybe, not sure.”
“Go rest.  One of the PAs will get you when we pick up for shooting.”  Jared guided her toward her trailer.
“Okay, thanks.”
Weird.

“Dude, What happened to your ar-“ Jared walked over to his friend and reached for Jensen’s wrist. YN dropped her head with tears about to spill over, feeling horrible every time she saw the scratch marks on his arm. Jensen gave a warning glare to Jared and shook his head discreetly. Jared stopped mid-movement and moved on. “You doing good today, YN?”
“I think so. Thanks for yesterday.  I didn’t know what to do. I love you, Uncle Jared.” She walked over to him and hugged him.
“Anything for my favorite Ackles,” he snickered.
“Hey! What about YOUR BROTHER?” Jensen faked a jealous attitude.  “I am your favorite.”
“Are not.”
“Are too!”
“Shut up!  I have school stuff to do, so scram!” YN spread her feet in defense of the space around her.
“Party pooper.” Jensen gritted his teeth, teasing.
“I will call Grandma on you. Now get.” YN crossed her arms, cocked her head to the side, and waited.
“Damn.  Okay, going out. On it.” Jared smiled.
“Got your phone? Text me if there is s problem, okay?”
“Promise, Dad.  Scouts’ honor.” She saluted her father with two fingers extending from her forehead toward her dad. “Hey,” she started, “Sorry about your arm. Will they be able to cover it up?”
“This,” he looked at her,” was not your fault. Don’t blame yourself, understand?”
“But your arm is so scratched-“
“Stop. We are done with this, okay?” He calmly embraced her.
“Okay. Have fun out there.”
_______
When Jensen returned to his trailer, he found his daughter asleep at the desk. He frowned at her tiredness.
“Baby,” he tapped her shoulder. “Wake up.” She stirred and looked up at him. “If you sleep now, you won’t sleep tonight. Wake up a little and then do school stuff.” She whined deep in her throat. “I know, but you have to.”
“Ugfff,” she huffed. “Fine. But I hate you. Just for the record.”
“Part of the job description of being a dad.” He grinned. She sat up in her chair.
“I’m never having kids. Parents suck,” she groaned but smiled.
“I suck? What?” He dramatically responded.
“You’re okay,” YN giggled. “Okay, homework it is.  Remind me next time to not visit you for a week during the school year.”
“Will do.  Call me if you need me.”
———-
Jensen entered his trailer to bring his daughter lunch.  He didn’t see her in the desk chair.
“YN-“ he froze, taking in her body on the carpet.
“YN!”
“Daddy,” she barely whispered, “help me.”
“Okay, you’re okay.” He noted her shaking body and new scratches on the side of her neck. “Give me your hands.” He took them in his larger hands and saw blood under her fingernails. “We’ll get this under control.” Jensen saw her start to converse but he shushed her. “Relax. We’ll talk in a minute.”  She pulled her hand back and they went back to her skin. “Stop, sweetheart. You’re hurting yourself.” He tried to help her calm, but it wasn’t working. “Hey!” He caught her attention. “Stop!” Cutting through her thoughts, she ceased her movements. Jensen took her hands back into his and squeezed down so that she wouldn’t scratch again. “Baby, come back.  You’re okay. I’m here.”
————
“Hey,” Jared walked into Jensen’s trailer. “Again?” He looked at Jensen, noting YN’s still, tired body curled into her father. He nodded.
“Yeah, I don’t know what to do. Jared, what do I do?” He looked down at his sleeping daughter.
————
“Hey, YN.  How are you?” Danneel walked into Jensen’s Austin home.
“Okay, I guess,” YN sighed. “Thanks for coming over tonight.”
“Of course. I want you safe. Are you good with me staying with you? I know you’ve got someone here at night, but is this okay?”
“I don’t really talk to her. She is not Ally,” YN sighed.
“You know you need to be nice to Haley,” Ally walked into the room. “She’ll be here soon, so be kind.”
“I’m always nice. I just want someone else here so I can calm down if I get stressed out again.  I hate this so much.  Why? Why do I have these attacks?!”
“I’m not sure, YN.  Don’t forget that we love you though.” Ally stood in front of YN on the couch. “I’m off the clock, so I’ll see you tomorrow. Thanks for helping my favorite girl, Danneel.”
“Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Danneel responded with a smile.
“That’s not true,” YN said under her breath.
“Up, now.” Ally heard what she said. YN stood up, knowing where this conversation was going. YN followed her into the hallway. “Be nice. She doesn’t have to do this for you. You know that, right? She loves your dad, therefore she sacrifices for him and you. Don’t insult her acts of kindness, okay?” YN nodded. “Good,” Ally kisses her on the cheek. “Love you. See you tomorrow.”
————
“So what did the doctor say about your scratching?”
“To put lotion on it. He gave me this soothing stuff.  At least it smells good, I guess.”
“They can’t do anything else?”
“Unless I see a therapist to relax which I’m not doing. No thanks.”
“But-“
“No.” YN growled. “Dad said it was fine if I talked to Jared. I have to or he’s going to make me go see a psychologist.”
“I’m so happy Jared can be there for you.” Danneel smiled.
“Me too,” YN returned.
————-
“You ready for bed?”
“Yeah, I am tired.  Good night, Danneel.”
“Hey,” Danneel called for YN. “Your dad said he put a monitor in your room?”
“Yeah, so that he can hear me if I have an attack.” YN’s cheeks became red.
“It’s fine, YN. “Where is the other other monitor?”
“I think it’s next to my dad’s bed.”
“Okay, I’ll follow you up and get it.”
————-
During the night, Danneel heard quick breathing. As she took in the surrounding of Jensen’s guest bedroom, she saw the baby monitor. Danneel pushed her blankets off of herself and ran into YN’s room.
“Hey, hey,” Danneel saw that YN was still sleeping. She watched as YN’s hands went toward her neck. “Uhhh…” Danneel took a breath and looked around the room.
Mittens.
“I got you, I got you.” YN woke up after a violent shake. Danneel put the gloves over YN’s hands before she could resist. When YN went to scratch, she couldn’t.  “Good girl.  It’s okay. I put your mittens on, don’t stress. Breathe.”
“Hug… please.”
———
“Hey, sweetheart. I heard it was a rough one last night.”
“I’m okay. Just a bad dream. Dee was there.”
“I’m so glad. Don’t forget to call Jared tonight,” Jensen commanded via FaceTime.
“Dad, this is hard enough. I don’t want Uncle Jared judging me.”
“He’s not, YN. He’s helping you. Remember what I said. Either talk to him or we get a therapist.  It’s not a bad thing, YN. You’ve seen how good Jared is doing. I just want you to be confident and healthy.
“I know. Can we change the subject please?”
———-
“You missed you phone call.” Jensen sternly stated.
“I didn’t want to, okay?!” YN yelled into the phone.
“You know the deal. Now you will have to talk to someone who doesn’t know you. If you would just have talked to Jared, it would be a whole lot easier!” Jensen spat back at his daughter. Voices were raised when Danneel walked into the YN’s room.
“Hey! Will you two shut up!” Danneel stood in the doorway of YN’s room and crossed her arms. “The Ackles’ lung capacities are astonishing. YN, let me talk to him.”
“No, he needs to go now,” YN ended the FaceTime session.
“YN! That was totally uncalled for!”
“He doesn’t know! He doesn’t understand, okay?!”
“But Jared does! When have you known the big moose to judge others? He loves you like his own. He is so proud of you, YN. Jared raves about how much you mean to him when he brags about family. I’ve heard him.  He would never betray your trust. Call him.”
“... Now?”
“Yeah. Now.”
“He’s probably on the phone with Gen or busy or-“
“Talk. To. Him.” Danneel demanded.
“I hate this!”
“You’ll hate it less if you talk to him. He’s been where you are right now.  Do you want to talk to someone you already trust or someone who you don’t know?”
“Fine!” YN yelled and called her uncle. Once he picked up, Danneel left YN alone in her room.
“Hey, YN-“
“I hate my dad!”
“Uhh…”
“Can we have our conversation now? I’m sorry I ignored your phone call.”
“Sure,” he answered, surprised by her sudden willingness. “You want to talk about last night?”
————-
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I shouldn't have threatened you with a therapist like that. Please forgive me.”
“I know.”
“I won’t do that anymore. I’m glad you talked to Jared. Did it help?”
“Yeah,” YN smiled to the camera on her phone. “He listened and didn’t judge me.”
“He’s a good friend, YN. Thank you for talking with him.  How is it having Dee there at night?  Does she calm you down?”
“Yes.  Jared taught her some calming stuff.  And she put mittens on my hands.  She found them somewhere.  Helps with the scratching.”
“That’s really smart.  What would you think about wearing them at night?  Just in case?”  Jensen was not sure if she would agree.
“Yeah, I think so.  I don’t like the scratch marks everywhere.”  YN answered with a defeated sigh.
“I understand,” he gave a reassuring smile.
______
“Danneel!”  YN yelled for her dad’s girlfriend from her room.
“Yeah?”  Danneel entered.
“Do you know where the mittens are?  My dad said I should wear them at night now.”
“Oh, umm… I think I saw them on the counter by your sink?”  Danneel guessed.
“Found them!”  YN responded from the bathroom.  She giggled at her lack of awareness.
“Good.  Goodnight, YN.  Sleep good.”
