Key Points-
Edward ‘Ted’ Tonks was the only child born to Edyth Tonks on the 12th of May, 1953. Ted grew up with little to nothing in the sense of possessions, his mother was a single parent working herself to the bone in order to keep a roof over their head. Despite the stress of the situation, his mother smothered him in doting affection throughout his childhood.
When he was growing up, strange and unexplained events would take place. Dinner plates would rattle when his mother attempted to force him to eat his greens, light-bulbs shattered when he grew frustrated and things in the small flat would go missing only to be found in places that didn’t make sense. It put a strain on the small family, they had no idea what it was but they knew that Ted was the cause. Edyth adopted a cautious attitude around him, uncertain and often unwilling to stick around in case she did something to set him off. The arrival of his Hogwarts letter both answered and created questions about the events that had been happening. Ted had been ecstatic to find out that magic was real and that he of all people had it. He had begged for weeks to go but his mother had reservations about the whole thing. She desired for her son to have all the things she couldn’t give him but she had wanted to keep him by her side for as long as possible.
When Ted finally made it to Hogwarts, it was everything he had dreamed and more. He was quickly sorted into Hufflepuff and placed in a room bigger than the one he had back home with a bed so plush he couldn’t sleep for weeks because he had gotten used to springs digging into his back. He made friends quickly with his kind demeanor but there were a few that looked at him with disdain for reasons he did not fully understand until he was older. Being a Muggle-Born brought a lot of challenges. He, like many others without magical parents, was far behind compared to those who had grown up surrounded by magic. It took extensive reading and badgering the professors for him to get to the high standard he had achieved later in his schooling. Ted was fortunate to never be on the receiving end of slurs but he had enough hexes in his arsenal to send the offenders packing and some charms (including his smile) to cheer up the victims.
Somewhere in his sixth year he found himself slipping clumsily into love with Andromeda Black. A girl so far out of his league that he almost wanted to ask Frank or Arthur if they happened to know how to cast the Obliviate spell yet. Ted felt the thrill from the secret meetings and the discreet conversations at the start of the relationship but the appeal fizzled out quickly. He spent the majority of their relationship with an ache in his chest that only grew when she slipped further from him. After graduation, Ted returned to muggle Birmingham to stay with his mother and had little contact with the wizarding world during the summer.
Life fell into place rather spectacularly after Hogwarts. Ted got an equivalent of a muggle apprenticeship at the Daily Prophet and landed a cozy little job as a journalist. He makes sure to send his mother a cut of his paycheck every month. He also married the girl of his dreams, Andromeda, and had a beautiful daughter named Nymphadora. Ted just hopes that his friends and family make it out of this war.

Para Sample- Prompt: Heartbreak
december 19th, 1959.
“You can’t touch the stars, love.” Edyth whispered, “They’re out of our reach.”
The boy in her arms made a noise of protest, chubby fingers pressed stubbornly against the frosty window. The night sky was the clearest it had been in weeks and spots of silver twinkled ever so perfectly above the city. Men had been to the moon less than a year ago, Ted thought, it wouldn’t be long until everyone was traveling out into space. He and Hamish from flat 12b were going to be co-pilots and they would be the first Brummie boys to trot through the stars.
“One day I’m going to have my own star.” Ted declared.
June 3rd, 1971.
The couch moaned in distress as a second weight came to rest on its stained cushions. Ted didn’t need to open his eyes to know that his mother was watching him in concern. Ever since he had come back from Hogwarts, he had been more of a clutz than usual. Two plates were broken on his first night alone but he has managed to wave off his mother’s curious looks. Until now, perhaps he should have taken that plumbing job after all.
“Edward,” Edyth said softly, “Tell me what happened, please?”
Ted sat as still as he could in his seat, breath held at the back of his throat. He couldn’t talk about it just yet, the wound was fresh and his mind filled with ‘what if’. He had come back home for a chance to heal a little-not completely, that would never happen. Ted was every inch his mother’s son. The woman may have acted strong but she had never accepted the attention of another after his father, too hurt and raw to ever consider the idea.
He had known for years that this was how it would go. Yet, he had let himself admit his feelings, let himself slip further and think that perhaps if he said enough ‘I love you’s or then she would be convinced that it was worth something. ‘Girls like that don’t end up with boys like you’ Arthur had said during one of Frank’s love sick rants about Alice. Ted couldn’t help but feel like it was more of a jab towards him now.
“You were right ma’, you can’t touch the stars.”
