This is a revolving column or earthquake scale.

Originally designed by the Ottoman architect, Mimar Sinan (1490-1588), they are capable of detecting deformation in the structure after earthquakes.

Moschea di Pyale Paşa

La moschea Piyale Paşa fu realizzata da Mimar Sinan nel 1573 su commissione dell'ammiraglio Piyale Paşa, genero del sultano Selim II.

La moschea era al centro di un complesso che cosisteva in un hamam, scuola, mercato e cimitero. Oggi rimane solo la moschea ed il complesso cimiteriale dove riposa Pyale Paşa, insieme alla moglie e ai loro sette figli e quattro figlie.

A differenza delle altre moschee progettate da Mimar Sinan essa non possiede una sola cupola centrale ma 6 cupole identiche, disposte su due file di tre. Si tratta dell'unica delle due moschee di Istanbul con piu cupole, l'altra é la moschea di Karagümrük.

Il minareto si erge al centro dell'ingresso e si trova sopra l'asse del mihrab, il punto che indica la direzione della Mecca. Il mihrab ha delle decorazioni davvero notevoli. Il minbar, il pulpito usato dall'imam, é scolpito nel marmo e bilancia il mirhab eccessivamente decorato con un design estremamente semplice. Mi é piaciuto particolarmente il porticato esterno della moschea.

La moschea é completamente ignorata dal turismo.

Saraçhane Kırkçeşmeler Fatih

Saraçhane'den Unkapanı'na giderken Bozdoğan Kemeri'nin hemen ayağında bulunan Mimar Sinan 'ın inşa ettiği Kırkçeşmeleri 1940'lı yıllarda yol genişletme esnasında yok edilmiştir. Tavuskuşu kabartması olan çeşme yeniden inşa edilmek üzere taşları numaralanarak sökülmüş fakat bir daha bir araya getirilememiştir.

Moschea di Sinan Paşa

Sinan Paşa é stato un ammiraglio della flotta ottomana. Anche l’ammiraglio, come suo fratello il Gran Visir Rüstem Paşa, fece realizzare una moschea direttamente dal grande architetto ottomano Mimar Sinan.

I lavori della moschea iniziarono dopo la morte di Sinan Paşa e completata nel 1556. Questo il motivo per cui la tomba dell’ammiraglio si trova nella moschea di sua cognata, Mihrimah Sultan ad Üsküdar.

Questa moschea é su pianta rettangolare. La cupola centrale è sorretta da colonne esagonali con archi e vi sono due cupole per lato. È stata sottoposta nel corso dei secoli a molti restauri. Ad esempio la sua colorazione non é quella originale.

La moschea si trova a Beşiktaş. Davanti alla moschea c’é il mausoleo del grande ammiraglio ottomano Barbarossa, opera sempre di Mimar Sinan.

Week 12 Q2 Traditions & Lineages

Back in my teen days I was self taught in graphic design with special effects that I've learned from tutorials back in the days before thinking of pursuing design communications.

During my first day in Lasalle where we were taught fundamentals of design elements, technique and resources, it is a huge eye opener during lectures as it is just basic shapes and repetitions that could spark greater ideas, interesting concept and beautiful visuals.

Something that I manifest well is that less is more, and just create don't complicate. I realised when I actually took the time to explore around the world and museums in Singapore. the designs were not entirely have to be super detailed or heavy compared on my design projects on my self taught skills. where I used a lot of effects just to look nice graphic design "movies" mindset

I tend to acknowledge and understand that simple designs and technique can go long term and even make history more compared to a detailed graphic design.

that brings me to one of my interesting research upon the traditions & lineages of the muslim architecture and design elements.

Sinan Mimar was one of the most genius architect designer I look up to, the chief Ottoman architect, engineer, mathematician. What I really like about his work to compare on what I learn in LASALLE about fundamental designs is the use of shapes and repetition techniques to create amazing visuals like flowers and more.

During the early builds of a mosque, he uses fundamental technique and patterns to create stunning designs. from here I certainly got interested in design work such as craft and making use of simpler concepts to spark new ideas.

eventually with the influence of religious and culture, the design element became a long term inspiration to associate with textile designs, geometry building designs and arabic calligraphy as home aesthetic designs. What I like about this design element as whole is that it is infuse with old early techniques like shapes and repetitions with modern times calligraphy fine arts design and fashion.

As more religious influence grows around the world, countries like India, turkey, Israel and many more uses more of this early build design elements to building architecture and modern pattern designs product for carpets, and calligraphy as typeface designs

As I am born as a muslim, It is interesting to know my history design itineration from a tradition lineage culture. It has the meaning and ambience of peace, and calming effect feel especially the calligraphy. originated in both Egypt and arabic, popular across the whole world due to its aesthetics.

And how the influence of religion carried forward is amazing through learning, design and prospect of values altogether.

Coming back to CTS, I definitely learn to appreciate the design fundamentals more as it creates history and the pinnacle of the design world in terms of religion in general. as for critical thinking, it is important for me to analyse and humbly understand the essence, the historic ideation of it and the culture.
