I vaguely remember that there was a Teacher AU text post about Ernesto convincing Héctor with a 12-slides Powerpoint presentation before adopting Doña Lucinda.

All January movies that caught my eye have been seen. Now to move on to February, starting with The Mercy(seeing this one because I want to see Colin Firth be in more than Kingsman) and Black Panther.
The movies that got my ‘This was great!’ sticker - The Greatest Showman, Darkest Hour, Three Billboards, Coco and The Commuter
The movies that got my ‘This was alright’ sticker - The Post and Early Man
Here’s to February being good too.
By the way - I wanna tell you about my experience with Coco(spoilers under cut) -
It’s been a while since I saw a Pixar movie that was this great. My last encounter with the big boss of animation was last year, when I went to see Cars 3. *clips of Lightning McQueen going by with me going ‘..yeah, I’ve had enough of you, jerkass..’*
The story about how powerful the love between family members are in this was so sweet and heartwarming, and the characters were very likable. *picture of Hector with ‘Especially this one! I love you, soft skeleton dude!’ on it*
...well..almost everyone.. I couldn’t bring myself to like Ernesto, even if he was likable to start with.
It also wasn’t afraid to cover the subject of death too. I do like it when a movie shows instead of tells..and when Ernesto killed Hector, it was enough to make several people around me gasp. Pixar has a lot of balls when it comes to movies.
Pixar also isn’t afraid to make moviegoers spill a river of tears or two either. When Miguel went back to the Land of the Living after seeing Ernesto get thrown around by the awesome flying..jaguar..? Pepita and get a bell on his head(Ha! Get wrecked, Ernesto!), he sang the Award Bait song Remember Me to Mama Coco to help her remember who her dad Hector(who was in danger of being forgotten) was....there wasn’t a dry eye in that room. And it got me to spill the river of tears too. That scene was so sweet and so heartwarming that it’s not gonna be forgotten any time soon.
The way they did this was great too. It was full of evidence that Pixar did their research before making it. You have to do a shit-ton of research before you decide to do a movie or TV show related to cultural events like Day of the Dead..and Pixar certainly pulled that off. That explains why Coco is so loved in Mexico too.
Another favorite character of mine was the hairless energetic and very lovable alebrije Xoloitzcuintli Dante. The more I saw him, the more I wanted to jump into the movie and hug him. I loved that pupper! I must draw him one day too. His alebrije form was so colorful and whimsical too, especially with his little wings. If I had an alebrije, it’d be like that too.
If this was the end of the year, Coco would easily sweep the Best Movie of the Year’ sticker and strut away with it..*turns to see posters for Incredibles 2 and Wreck It Ralph 2*..but it has to have a punch-up with those two first.
