深夜食堂 | しんやしょくどう Shinya shokudou also known as "Midnight Diner" is originally a Japanese manga series by Yarou Abe. It is mainly set in a small restaurant which operates from midnight until 7am and is run by Master- the owner of the place. The drama depicts the lives of the different customers who frequent this place. Midnight Diner is unique for its simplicity and originality. In all the tales presented one can easily connect with the trials and tribulations faced by a common man in his everyday life. It was adapted into a 10-episode live-action television drama in 2009 called 'Midnight Diner', followed by a second season in 2011, and a third season in 2014. In 2016, it came out as a Netflix series known as 'Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories.' The role of Master is played by Kaoru Kobayashi.
