disagree! a band can and should do any genre they like, as long as they like it, most people can pull it off. they don’t have to go full punk for the festival. it has nothing to do with the genre or production of songs on their latest album, the show is a year from now, and their poppier songs have different arrangements live anyway. they are at their core, a band who play drums and guitars live.
it’s about that live performance for their fans who have crossover with those other bands on the bill rather than today’s pop performers (see all the tweets about how many people left the iHeart crowd after 5sos played at the start of the day). they chose to finally perform at an emo/punk festival that they either weren’t invited to or were too busy to attend in 2014-2016. anyone at WWWY’23 who was a fan that left after SGFG gets to see how good they still are.
being without a label is great for letting them do what they want - switching genres is a major indicator of freedom (i bet 5sos5’s tracklist would not have made it through capitol or interscope’s execs)
i agree! And I think it’s amazing that 5sos, a band who started out doing pop punk and was so inspired by rock bands is performing at this festival!
Im excited that fans who loved their pop punk sound, when that used to be their sound, will be able to hear it! I’ve always loved their live from the vaults. Hopefully they’ll play a bunch of their newer songs in the live from the vault versions and songs from sounds good feels good!
I just know that jet black heart will sound amazing. This is gonna be Michael’s time to shine. Michael better sing so many songs at this set. This is 100% Michael’s sound. Im soo excited for him to be performing at this festival.
I just wish that they (Ashton) could be kinder in how they talk about other artists and their work. There’s no reason to insult other creators. It’s so easy to be a kind person.
