My GVF Predictions for 2024
Sam will attempt to grow a beard similar to George Harrison circa 1970. He'll nearly get there, but when he starts braiding it, his friends and family tell him to shave it off
A new music video will come out for either Sacred the Thread or Farewell for Now out of the literal blue
videos of Danny singing Bon Jovi in a Nashville karaoke bar will unearth
Josh will get another piercing
GVF will issue an apology, revealing that they accidentally deleted the files for the Broken Bells music video
Jake will commit to speaking in nothing but latin for an entire interview
Some cryptic sign will be dropped that Oliver Reed isn't dead
Something's gonna come out of that mystery song that they've been playing during their jam sessions on stage, I swear
Josh is gonna try to bring back shoulder pads and he may or may not pull it off
At least a few members of GVF will accidentally make their way into the background of a Mastercard commercial like Michael Clifford did in 2014
Danny will get another tattoo of something goofy, like a frog playing a banjo or a dorito bag
Sam will want to get a tattoo too, but talk himself out of it while it's happening so he's left with a dot tattooed on him, which he calls a freckle tattoo
GVF will release a new curated spotify playlist, but it's just Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday album
Josh will tease a new short film about space pirates with Jake cast as the evil, latin-speaking three headed villain
New outfit debuts all around for the next leg of the Starcatcher tour, including more capes, more sparkles, and more chains
Josh has spent their entire break trying to figure out how to apply pyro to his microphone so he can shoot shit out of it, which he will test during their next performance
GVF holiday single drop, but they're all giving their worst Frank Sinatra impression and it's a clusterfuck

"Real bands save fans, real fans save bands." - Michael Clifford.
[Bahasa.]
"Real bands save fans, real fans save bands."
---
[English.]
As the morning descended, Michael sat serenely on his porch, accompanied by his dependable guitar. This time, he chose the acoustic guitar, intending to unwind before diving into the excitement of the festival night ahead with his fellow 5SOS members. Memories from Michael's youth suddenly emerged, transporting him back to an era when the desire to become a skilled guitarist completely captivated him. The journey to reach this point was undoubtedly a long one, but every stride played a role in shaping him into the person he is now known as.
Disrupting Michael's daydream, his phone chimed with a notification. The message in the 5SOS group chat, courtesy of Ashton, suggested an early arrival and the idea of spending some enjoyable moments together before the evening event. Michael responded promptly and positively in the group chat, swiftly preparing himself for the journey to the location Ashton had recently shared.
On this occasion, Michael chose to take the wheel solo, deliberately creating a space for introspection and personal time. The car resonated with songs by 5SOS, spanning from their initial releases to the most recent, evoking a deep sense of nostalgia. A gentle smile graced his face as he reflected on the challenges and triumphs that brought him to this juncture.
"Real bands save fans, real fans save bands."
The tweet flashed into his mind like a sudden memory. It was a statement he had previously shared, initiating discussions and holding significant meaning regarding the bond between a band and its fans. Michael contemplated once more on how both entities contribute to each other's salvation, as they rightfully should. He felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the support and acceptance extended by the 5SOS Family and 5SOS themselves.

NATCHEZ VISIT: New director of Two Museums brings staff to Natchez
Tumblr media
Robert Pernell, center, who chaired the Proud to Take a Stand Monument committee, tells the story of the Parchman Ordeal.
---------------
By Roscoe Barnes III Special to The Natchez Democrat
Note: This story was published on the front page of the Aug. 30, 2023, issue of The Natchez Democrat.
NATCHEZ, Miss. – Michael Morris, the new director of the Two Museums in Jackson, visited Natchez on Monday with eight members of his staff from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
The team spent the day discussing history while touring historical sites that included Jefferson College, Forks of the Road, the Proud to Take a Stand Monument, and the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians.
“Although the museums cover much of Mississippi's past, we encourage tourists to visit the places across the state where history happened,” said Morris. “I thought it was important for the museum staff to be able to speak from experience when they describe to visitors, for example, the Forks of the Road site or the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians.”
Morris noted, “It's also important to understand that these places did not save themselves—there are individuals who have dedicated their lives to preserving these sacred places for the future generations to appreciate. We will continue this tradition, started by my predecessor Pamela D.C. Junior, of visiting historic sites across the state throughout the year, but I thought it was important we began in Natchez.”
Morris’ team included Ayana Jones, museum educator; Sarah Grantham, director of student learning; Drew Gardner, director of family and community learning; Luis Montgomery, museum educator and outreach assistant; Dorian Pridgen, museums administrator; Shalynn Smith, gallery assistant; Shamira Maxie, gallery assistant; Jerry Knight, museum educator.
Roscoe Barnes III, cultural heritage tourism manager for Visit Natchez, participated in the tours throughout the day. Mayor Dan Gibson welcomed the team at the Grand Village.
“We in Natchez are so very grateful for all that the Mississippi Department of Archives and History does for our state – and having Michael Morris, a longtime friend of Natchez, and now executive director of Mississippi’s Two Museums, has indeed been an honor,” Gibson said.
“Mr. Morris and his staff members serve at the epicenter of the telling of Mississippi civil rights history, and our state’s overall history as well, and what better place for them to experience this history up close and personal than in Natchez.”
Tumblr media
Mayor Dan Gibson, left, and Two Museums Director Michael Morris have a chat during visit to the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians.
------------
The MDAH visit began with a tour of Jefferson College. It was led by Phillip Williams, site maintenance manager of the Grand Village and Jefferson College, and Morris.
The team followed this visit with a tour of Forks of the Road, where Kathleen Bond, superintendent of the Natchez National Historical Park, presented the history of the site that included an overview of Natchez’s early history dating back to the French and Native Americans.
Bond praised Ser Seshsh Ab Heter-Clifford M. Boxley for his work in educating the public about the enslavement market history - and the US Colored Troops history - at Forks of the Road. She called Ser Boxley  “the godfather of this site” who worked over 20 years to interpret and help preserve its place in history. The site, which she described as “a site of conscience … like the Holocaust [sites],” is now part of the Natchez National Historical Park.
In discussing future plans for the new park site, Bond stated that the land-acquisition phase will end in 2024 when formal planning will begin, and public meetings will be held to gather input.
After having lunch at The Guest House, the team visited the Proud to Take a Stand Monument, where Robert Pernell gave a talk on the civil rights movement. Pernell, who chaired the Proud to Take a Stand monument committee, described how hundreds of people from the Black community in Natchez and Adams County were wrongfully incarcerated in October 1965 for standing up for basic civil rights and voting rights.
About 150 were bused to the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, where they were humiliated, punished, and abused for several days. The protestors became known as survivors of “The Parchman Ordeal.”
Morris and his team’s last stop was the Grand Village. There, they met Grand Village Historian Becky Anderson and Sales Shop Manager Janice Sago. After watching a short film about the history of the Natchez Indians, the team heard a presentation by Anderson that included stories about Natchez Indians’ ancestors and culture in Southwest Mississippi, and what became of them. She also led the team outside the museum to discuss the history of the mounds on the Grand Village property.
Morris said that he and his staff enjoyed the day’s experience. “Staff members were grateful to visit places they've heard department leaders discuss extensively like Jefferson College,” he said. “I think they were able to understand the challenges and why MDAH is placing so much effort into creating a long-term preservation plan for these sites. Most importantly, they very much enjoyed the food.”

Trump Probe Nearing End (1440) Former President Donald Trump predicted over the weekend he would be arrested Tuesday in connection with an investigation into alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stephanie Gregory Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. It is unclear whether charges will be issued and an arrest made Tuesday, if at all. A representative for Trump later clarified he had received no notification from authorities as of yesterday, while a grand jury hearing evidence is still set to hear testimony from at least one other witness. The central allegation in the case is that Trump violated campaign finance laws by reimbursing his former lawyer Michael Cohen for a $130K payment to Daniels to stay quiet about her relationship with Trump in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. Trump and allies have framed the probe as politically motivated and timed to impact his 2024 presidential campaign. If an indictment is made, it would mark the first time a sitting or former president faced criminal charges in modern times (Ulysses Grant was briefly detained for speeding in a horse-drawn carriage in 1872).
Fear, grief follow deadly quake on Ecuador’s southwest coast (AP) Some affectionately call Machala the “Banana Capital of the World.” This port community on Ecuador’s Pacific coast is home to about a quarter million people and normally bustles with commercial activity. But not this weekend, not after the deadly quake. Grief hung in the air on Sunday, a day after a powerful temblor rocked this city, toppling homes and buildings along the coast and as far off as the Ecuadorian highlands and even parts of Peru. Rubble covered some streets of Machala. Neighbors held simple funerals to bury the dead. A pier was no more. And a day after the quake that killed nine residents alone along this hard-hit coast, many in Machala were feeling anguished and uneasy. “The city is quiet, fear and mourning are felt,” resident Luis Becerra said. “You feel the pain, the drama, wherever you go. Everyone is alert, with great fear in case” there’s a major aftershock. The quake, which the U.S. Geological Survey reported at magnitude 6.8, killed at least 15 people and injured more than 445 others.
‘Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich’—Russian conscripts decry ‘criminal orders’ (Washington Post) In a dimly lit room, a dozen or so men in Russian military uniforms, their faces concealed by dark balaclavas, stood around a man reading out a letter addressed to President Vladimir Putin. “As of today, we still have not received weapons and ammo,” the man said, identifying his group as soldiers from the 580th Separate howitzer Artillery Division from Serpukhov, a city 62 miles south of Moscow—a unit he said is now stationed in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. “We ask that our guys be recalled from this assault as they do not possess the necessary training or experience,” the man pleaded, his voice artificially warped to protect his identity. “Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, we are asking you to sort out this situation.” This appeal, which appeared this month on Russian Telegram channels, was just one in a flood of new videos that have surfaced since mid-February, in which recent Russian conscripts have complained about how they are being sent to fight and die on the front lines in Ukraine, using phrases such as “criminal orders” and “senseless assaults.” Scores of conscripts say they are being forced to storm Ukrainian positions as part of Russia’s eastern offensive, without sufficient training, ammunition or weapons. The Washington Post was unable to independently verify the videos, some of which were sent to local Russian media outlets by conscripts or their families.
EU gives Ukraine €2bn of ammunition after shell plea (BBC) More than a dozen European Union member states have agreed to supply Ukraine with at least one million artillery shells over the next year. The plan, worth €2bn in total, was agreed in Brussels on Monday. Ukraine had told the EU it needed 350,000 shells a month to hold back advancing Russian troops and launch a counter-offensive this year. Current ammunition production in Europe is said to be lagging behind the levels Ukraine insists it needs to fight Russia. There are also questions about how much EU countries can share from their own stockpiles without leaving themselves vulnerable.
Turkey backs Finland for NATO membership, snubs Sweden (Washington Post) In May 2022, when Finnish and Swedish officials announced their intention to join the NATO alliance, in a historic shift for both countries, there was talk of a “quick ratification.” But the path to membership has been more difficult than initially envisioned. This week, Finnish officials traveled to Turkey to try to seal the deal, while Swedish officials stayed home. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has played spoiler for much of the past 10 months. On Friday, he announced that Finland’s membership request was being sent to Turkey’s parliament for ratification, paving the way for the alliance to grow. But Erdogan will not sign off on Sweden’s bid without additional steps, meaning the Nordic neighbors who vowed to join NATO “hand in hand” will not, in fact, join together. In recent months, Turkey has expressed anger at street protests held in Stockholm against Erdogan, including a demonstration in January that included the burning of a Quran. For Erdogan, splitting Finland from Sweden also appears to be a domestic political play—an appeal to nationalist voters as he lags behind his main opponent in some polls ahead of a planned May 14 election.
As America Forgets, Iraq War Stays With U.S. Veterans (The Intercept) Tim Mclaughlin commanded a Marine Corps tank platoon that took part in some of the earliest fighting of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Like many veterans, the experience left him with post-traumatic stress and conflicted feelings about the war. Twenty years since U.S. troops first invaded, the U.S. war in Iraq has become a faded memory to many Americans. For Iraqis themselves, the consequences of the war are still an unavoidable part of their daily lives. But trauma also lingers for a group of Americans unlikely to forget the war as long as they live: former U.S. service members. More than a million Americans are estimated to have served in Iraq over the course of more than a decade, mostly in noncombat roles. Alongside millions of Iraqis who were killed or displaced by the conflict, thousands of Americans died or were wounded in Iraq. For many veterans, the war has been the defining event of their lives. Yet it has been difficult to reconcile the terrible sacrifices they made during the conflict with the unhappy outcome or the false narratives that initiated it. “The idea of going to war is horrible. When people are talking about it on TV, they are talking about something that is not real to them. When it becomes real to you, it stays real to you your whole life,” said McLaughlin. According to a 2014 study, an estimated fifth of all U.S. veterans who served in Iraq came back with PTSD.
Indian officials cut internet for 27 million people amid search for fugitive (Washington Post) Indian authorities severed mobile internet access and text messaging for a second day Sunday across Punjab, a state of about 27 million people, as officials sought to capture a Sikh separatist and braced for potential unrest. The statewide ban—which crippled most smartphone services except for voice calls and some SMS text messages—marked one of the broadest shutdowns in recent years in India, a country that has increasingly deployed the law enforcement tactic, which digital rights activists call draconian and ineffective. The Punjab government, led by the opposition Aam Admi Party, initially announced a 24-hour ban starting midday Saturday as its security forces launched a sprawling operation to arrest the fugitive Amritpal Singh, then extended the ban Sunday for another 24 hours. Singh, a 30-year-old preacher, has been a popular figure within a separatist movement that seeks to establish a sovereign state in Punjab called Khalistan for followers of the Sikh religion. He rocketed to nationwide notoriety in February after his supporters stormed a police station to free one of his jailed supporters. The Khalistan movement is outlawed in India and considered a top national security threat by officials, but the movement has sympathizers across Punjab state, which is majority Sikh, and among members of the large Sikh diaspora who have settled in countries such as Canada and Britain.
IMF approves critical $3B bailout package for Sri Lanka (AP) The International Monetary Fund said Monday that its executive board has approved a nearly $3 billion bailout program for Sri Lanka over four years to help salvage the country’s bankrupt economy. An IMF statement said about $333 million of the funding will be disbursed immediately and the approval will also open up financial support from other institutions. The office of Sri Lanka’s president said the IMF approval will unlock financing of up to $7 billion from the fund and other international multilateral financial institutions.
Pakistani police file terrorism charges against ex-PM Khan (AP) Police in the Pakistani capital filed charges Sunday against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, 17 of his aides and scores of supporters, accusing them of terrorism and several other offenses after the ousted premier’s followers clashed with security forces in Islamabad the previous day. For hours on Saturday, Khan’s followers clashed with police outside a court where the former prime minister was to appear in a graft case. Riot police wielded batons and fired tear gas while Khan’s supporters threw fire bombs and hurled rocks at the officers. More than 50 officers were injured and a police checkpoint, several cars and motorcycles were torched. Police said 59 of Khan’s supporters were arrested during the violence.
North Korea: Latest missile simulated nuclear counterattack (AP) North Korea said Monday it simulated a nuclear attack on South Korea with a ballistic missile launch over the weekend that was its fifth missile demonstration this month to protest the largest joint military exercises in years between the U.S. and South Korea. The North’s leader Kim Jong Un instructed his military to hold more drills to sharpen the war readiness of his nuclear forces in the face of “aggression” by his enemies, state media reported. The South Korean and Japanese militaries detected the short-range missile being launched Sunday into waters off the North’s eastern coast, which reportedly came less than an hour before the U.S. flew long-range B-1B bombers for training with South Korean warplanes. The North characterizes the U.S.-South Korea exercises as a rehearsal to invade, though the allies insist they are defensive in nature. Some experts say the North uses the exercises as a pretext to advance its weapons programs.
With stubborn inflation, senior discounts are having a moment (Washington Post) It was the free soft drink at Whataburger that got Melvin Schwartz hooked. Then he learned Chick-fil-A does it, too. Senior discounts have been around for decades. Now, they’re having a moment. Reviewer mentions of “senior discount” soared 36 percent from 2021 to 2022, according to data from crowdsourced review site Yelp. And AARP says a growing number of its more 38 million members are taking advantage of benefits for gas, event tickets and health care. For many older shoppers, scoping out promotions to save a few bucks on a meal, soda or new pair of pants is a welcome perk of aging. But others view them as a necessity, especially as inflation continues to gnaw at their spending power. This is a growing group—42 percent of adults 50 and older “either are working in retirement for financial reasons or expect to do so,” according to AARP Research. Some benefits—such as credits toward utility bills and discounted internet and cable—are welcome reprieves for those trying to stretch their dollars. Like most Americans, older consumers are feeling the weight of relentlessly high inflation.

****
When Michael first finds out you’re pregnant, he’s overjoyed but nervous; while talking of the future he had confessed he was nervous about being a dad, his fears of “fucking up” his kid rearing their ugly head as you had laid in bed together. Your post-sex glow was shining over the two of you despite it having been a bit of time since your activities had ended, the conversation having started from your lack of protection earlier in the evening.
You had frowned at him, his face buried in the valley of your shoulder, lips and bits of scruff tickling your bare skin. “You’d be a great dad,” you said softly, fingers running through his hair. “I see how you wave to staring babies at grocery stores and in the dog parks, Michael. You’d be an excellent father to your kids.”
He lifted his head to match your gaze, his beautiful eyes shining. “You think so?” He asked softly, his answer being only a silent nod. He gave you a half smile and nodded back, dipping down to let your lips meet together.
“Then let’s give it a try.”
Your heart had leaped at his answer, the two of you giggling madly as his lips traveled down your neck. The conversation ended with the two of you deciding to just see where things go, not really doing anything to ensure anything but not exactly stopping it, either.
After some time you had started to feel unwell, chalking it up to stress in the current climate, the conversation you and Michael had being pushed completely to the back of your mind. You went weeks without taking a test, the sickness coming and going until Michael finally handed you the white and blue stick.
You had raised an eyebrow at him but went into the bathroom anyway, pacing back and forth in front of the sink as you waited for your answer. Michael had set it face down, the two of you biting the inside of your cheeks as the timer on your phone went off. Together you flipped it over, the answer you had been waiting for spelled out right in front of you.
The following months were filled with mixtures of emotions, the growing life inside of you quickly becoming the center of your lives. Michael insisted on taking a photo every month, his lips pressed firmly against your belly as Calum or Ashton would take the photo, a smile always on your face at the excitement he had over the arrival of your sweet babe.
At 6 months you were both in your best friend's wedding, a beaming smile as you stood behind her on her big day. The two of you joked about how you always knew you would be the pregnant one at her wedding, the drinks being poured for your other friends in your honor as you and Michael danced the night away. The wedding seemed to inspire something within him, his eyes glistening a bit differently as he twirled you around the dance floor.
“I love you,” he whispered, lips right beside your ear as he swayed with you. “And our little one. So much.”
You blushed and smiled, getting a little teary. “And I love you and our little one, too. So so much.”
The night continued on, the send off going off flawlessly and the two of you returning home. You both fell asleep right away, exhaustion hanging on every bit of you as you settled in.
At 7 months you had your baby shower, a bit later than you had wanted but with travel restrictions still being so complicated, you wanted to have time to get Michael’s mother and family there. While you had decided not to disclose the gender just yet, the party was filled with love and plenty of gifts for baby Clifford, everyone enjoying themselves with the games your best friend had helped you choose. Michael stuck by your side the entire time, ever the doting boyfriend as he checked in every so often, bringing you anything you needed and always being your helper when you needed to get up.
As it started to quiet down Michael seemed to get a bit jumpy, you having to call his name a couple times before he would appear beside you again, a nervous smile on his face as he would help you with whatever you needed. You had caught him in what seemed like a meeting with the boys, the four of them quickly talking over each other as they noticed you approaching, Michael seeming unbothered as he smiled at you. You just smiled back at him and let him kiss your forehead, your hands running over your belly as he kept you close.
About an hour after you walked in on that meeting Michael came over, helping you out of your chair and leading you to the backyard just in time to see the brilliant orange skies of Los Angeles, the sky taking your breath away as Michael chuckled.
“You’ve always loved sunsets,” he said softly, a light blush on your cheeks. “D’ya think little one will like them, too?”
You smiled, squeezing his hand. “I hope so,” you said softly, hand resting on top of your bump. You sensed Michael shifting beside you, the nervous energy around him making you raise an eyebrow as you faced him.
“What’s gotten into you today?” You asked softly, gently reaching up to get his attention. “You’ve been nervous all day…You’re not having second thoughts on this baby are you?”
Michael quickly shook his head. “No, no! Absolutely not,” he said, eyes dropping to the ground as he took a deep breath. “Just...nervous.”
You raised an eyebrow. “What about?”
Your lover lifted his eyes and met your gaze, a chuckle escaping him as he pulled his hands into his pockets. “You know,” he started, stepping closer to you. “Ever since the day we met, I’ve been wildly and incredibly in love with you. It slammed into me like a ton of bricks, and even through our friendship, I knew that all I wanted was you. All I could ever want is and always will be you, my love.” He paused, smiling at you as you tried to wipe the tears from your eyes. “Now, with our little one almost here, I’ve come to realize that I couldn’t ever ask for anything else. I want to keep you and our family safe for the rest of our lives, so…” he trailed off, hands coming out of his pockets as he knelt down to one knee.
“Yes,” you said, Michael laughing.
“Hang on, let me ask the question!” He laughed, the ring emerging from his palm. “My love, my angel. Will you marry me?”
You laughed and nodded, repeating your answer as he took your hand. You sniffled as he stood, his hands cupping your cheeks as he chuckled.
“I love you,” he whispered, pressing your lips together in the sweetest kiss.
“And I love you,” you whispered back, your lover pressing his lips to your forehead as he tugged you close, your belly bumping his as you laughed.
The rest of the night was the two of you celebrating your engagement, your friends and family members all offering their congrats on everything. Once the night was over and your friends were helping you clean up you were shooed off to bed, Michael escorting you away as your friends all said goodnight.
The next couple of months were a whirlwind, you and Michael throwing yourselves into the project that was the baby’s nursery. Your due date crept closer and closer, each day without your bundle of joy in your arms making both of you impatient. Thanks to Google, you were able to try every old wives tale to induce labor, mixing it with bouncing on your yoga ball as you tried to urge your baby out.
Your due date came and went, your date for inducing being set for a couple of weeks out while Michael and you prepared for a maternity shoot with Andy and Sarah. While it was a bit late, you had decided you ultimately wanted photos done for the memories, although you and Michael had already decided you wanted another one by this point; Andy and Sarah were more than happy to provide the photos for you, taking you to a stunning location and taking every photo possible.
Unbeknownst to Michael, you had felt some contractions already, brushing them off as the Braxton-Hicks your OB had warned you about. However, midway through the photos, you felt a trickle down your leg, embarrassment already creeping over you as you thought you had peed yourself. However, very soon after a contraction rolled through you, causing you to bend over and hold your belly.
“Angel?” Michael asked, immediately reaching for your hand. “What’s going on?”
“Um,” you uttered, standing up straight as the pain passed. “My water just broke.”
Immediately his eyes went wide, your lover looking to Andy and Sarah in shock. The two of them quickly started packing up while Michael ushered you to the car, carefully helping you in and quickly driving back home to pack the hospital bags. While he was scrambling around you were timing everything, bouncing on your ball again as you did so in hopes of it lessening the pain.
Soon enough you were back in the car, the two of you racing to the hospital and checking in at seemingly lightning speed. Once you were admitted and connected to everything Michael was at your side, hand holding yours as waves of pain rolled over you, each one worse than the last. With the help of nurses the two of you walked around, Michael cheering you on as you got closer and closer to the birth.
Then, finally, after what felt like eons, it was time to push.
Michael was at your leg, holding it back as he kept his face close to yours. With every push he whispered his encouragement, telling you how great you were doing and how beautiful you were, and how proud he was of you as you both ushered a new life into the world. Soon enough you heard the first cries, tears streaming down both of your cheeks as the doctor quickly cut the cord.
“It’s a boy!”
You let out a choked sob as your son was placed on your chest, the flood of emotions washing over you as you reached up to touch your baby. To your surprise, Michael’s hand was already there, his face pink and covered in tears as he gazed at his first born.
A few hours later you were all taken care of, a couple nurses helping you tie your hair back while your baby was cleaned. They smiled as the door opened, a third nurse rolling in the little bed your baby was laid in, the boy sound asleep as he was placed right beside you. After checking in that you were okay the nurses left, finally leaving you and Michael alone with your son.
Michael walked over, looking at the baby with a smile on his face. He seemed to be holding himself back, his hand reaching out to gently drag a finger across his son’s cheek.
You watched him and smiled. “You can hold him,” you said softly. “I’m sure he wants his daddy.”
Michael met your gaze and blushed, smiling shyly as he nodded. Carefully he picked up the baby, holding him in his hands as he gazed at him in amazement. He moved to his seat and sat down, eyes never leaving the sleeping child in his arms.
“Hey, little man,” he said softly, your heart soaring at his gentle tone. He sniffled, his eyes filling with tears. “You know your daddy loves you? How perfect he thinks you are?”
It took everything within you to control your own tears, your hormones still all over the place. “We need to name him,” you said softly, Michael looking up at you.
He nodded, looking back at his son. “I’ve always loved the name Ashton,” he chuckled, making you laugh lightly.
“I like that name,” you answered. “But I think I like Colby more.”
He met your eyes and nodded. “Colby,” he said, trying it out as he looked back at the babe. “Colby Tyler Clifford.”
You beamed, nodding in agreement as Michael looked at you for approval. “Colby Tyler Clifford it is.”
Michael grinned and carefully shifted Colby, leaning over to kiss the knuckles on your hand. “Have you slept yet?” He asked you, the question a bit pointed.
You sighed, getting his point. “I should,” you answered, eyes on your baby. “Promise you’ll stay with us? And that you’ll wake me if anyone comes by?”
Michael chuckled and nodded, standing and shifting the baby as he leaned over, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “I promise,” he whispered, noticing your eyes already closing as he pulled away.
Soon enough you were asleep, Michael pacing the room with your beautiful baby boy in his arms. He hummed little tunes as they came to his head, quietly singing lyrics to them as he focused solely on his son. Eventually he found his way back to his chair, still quietly singing as he heard a light knock on the door.
He looked up just as a nurse quietly stuck her head in the door, obviously noticing your sleeping form in the bed and waving him over.
“Hey,” she greeted, keeping her voice down as she noticed the babe in his arms. “When mama’s awake again we’ll get some paperwork and birth certificate over for you to sign, okay? And you guys have a visitor, they’re seated in the waiting room.”
He nodded, confused about the visitor but stepping out with the nurse. Colby stirred slightly in his arms, his little mouth opened in a yawn as his heart melted, doors opening for him as he stepped into the waiting room.
Immediately his eyes landed on Calum, his best friend standing from his chair the second their eyes met. He grinned at the bundle in his arms, his phone being tucked into his pocket as he stepped closer.
“Hey mate,” Michael greeted, voice quiet as he turned slightly. “Meet your godson, Colby Tyler.”

Michael turns around from where he's standing in front of the stove, making scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast, to see Calum with an honest to god newspaper in his hands. Michael wasn't even aware that they still subscribed to it.
“What's up?” He asks as he goes back to cooking, finishing up the last few pieces of bacon before he splits the food up on two plates, but Calum doesn't reply as he's too busy reading whatever headline there is for today. “Cal?”
“They've found a body. That Hemmings kid.”
or: the one where luke went missing three years ago and his body has just been found. michael is a ghost whisperer who helps luke moving on to the other side by putting the guilty one in jail.
(oh, your love is) sunlight (ao3) - allsassnoclass (brightblackholes) luke/calum T, 1k

Sure, he misses the taste of real food, not the concoction he gets from Luke's store, and he misses the feeling of knowing his body was keeping him alive, of breath moving through his lungs and blood pumping in his veins, but when he dreams about being human, he dreams of the sun.
Perhaps that's why he's so drawn to Luke.

But, with a cute , not entirely human boy and two kickass Valkyries, Michael might just be able to save the world and get the boy. (Considering people stop trying to kill him first.)
The Sun Will Rise (ao3) - JetBlackSunshine T, 131k
Summary: 'It's hard to see the enemy, When you're looking at yourself. Maybe your reflection shows you screaming out for help.' Luke doesn't expect much from his new school; however it soon becomes apparent that his time spent there isn't going to be like the rest of them. Entangled in a web of family secrets and those of his new classmates working out who to trust and how to survive become more important than ever.
They Say We Are What We Are But We Don't Have To Be (ao3) - lukey_irwie luke/ashton G, 21k
Summary: Luke is fairly adjusted to his life as a vampire and he actually really enjoys it, however one night hunters attack his clan's lair. But what if instead of killing him, one of the hunter's decides to spare his life, and what if Luke falls for him.
Or the one where Ashton is a monster hunter and can't seem bring himself to be able to kill this really cute blonde vampire.
Unravel, Unmake Yourself (ao3) - Branithar ot4 E, 9k
Summary: Luke is getting sicker with every full moon, Ashton keeps being called to Hell, Calum is anxious about his upcoming surgeries going badly and Michael feels lucky that the worst thing happening to him is having to buy blood instead of feed exclusively from his boyfriends. The second-hand stress from everything happening to them is wearing him thin, but surely it can't get worse, can it?
Where the Water Meets the Sky (ao3) - guyi (orphan_account) luke/calum G, 11k
Summary: Calum looks down at where their fingers are interlocked and then back up at Luke. He wears a smile on his face and his eyes glisten in the sun. His hair is wet and it’s dripping down the sides of his face. Calum loves this, loves seeing Luke in all of his natural beauty in the sun. Loves spending time with him even though he shouldn’t. He loves every second of it, up until the minute he has to go back underwater.
or, Calum is a merman and Luke is a human. They fall in love.

Me and You // C.H

Anonymous: Can we get y/n going to cal and telling him she doesn’t want kids and she’s worried he’ll leave her?
Bit of an emotional blurb here! Where Calum and reader meet Michael’s new baby, and reader decides its time to tell Calum that they have no plans to have children anytime in the future. As always, feedback is appreciated! I hope you enjoy a bit more of uncle!Calum, as well as him being a supportive partner! Thank you as always to @calumrose for brainstorming this with me♥️
“I can’t believe she’s here.”
You’ve never seen Calum look at someone so intently. His focus is fixed on the bundle of blankets in his arms, and had been since Michael had placed her there just moments earlier — with a overly cautious dad-like ‘make sure you support her head, man.’
The whole family have been long awaiting the arrival of the newest member of the Clifford family. Ever since he and his partner had announced that they were expecting, it was all everyone had discussed whenever you got together — names, godparents, who would be the best babysitter... the list was endless. Calum had cried when Michael asked him to be her godparent, a role he promised to take very seriously.
“I know, it’s crazy, right?” Michael replies, his gaze soft as he looks at his best friend and his daughter. You sit to Calum’s right, your pointer finger reaching out to lightly stroke her cheek.
Your heart aches a little as you watch them.
You and Calum hadn’t really had that conversation yet. Everytime somebody mentioned children, whether it was on TV or a friend, you’d brushed it off — joking about how children were too messy, too loud, anything you could think of to shut the conversation down. Calum never said much, either — he didn’t agree with you, but he didn’t argue either. It was a private conversation that needed to be had, between the two of you.
“Wait until you can babysit, get some practice in for your own.” Michael’s partner comments, making your heart drop into your stomach when Calum smiles at her words.
“We’ll see.” Calum replies quietly, too busy running his thumb over the apple of Harper’s cheek, her skin flushed from sleep as he cradled her.
We’ll see.
What does that mean? Calum’s viewpoint on having children had never been clear, yet this made you more unsure. It made your stomach turn to think that he could possibly not be on the same page as you.
“Do you want to hold her, babe?” Calum asks, gently nudging you to catch your attention. You nod, holding your arms out for Calum to slowly and under Michael’s watchful eye, very carefully, place her in your arms. Tears well in your eyes as you look at her, how she curls in towards you as you adjust her in your arms. Calum’s hand rests on your thigh, a small show of affection as he looks at the tiny baby. He slips his finger in between her tiny ones. “Look at her little hands.”
“She’s so sweet,” You smile, suddenly feeling as though all of the attention was on you and Calum — watching as he put his arm around your shoulders. You held her for a few moments longer, until she curled her legs up and let out the first hiccup of a cry — Michael instantly jumping into action.
“Shall I take her?” Michael asks, waiting until you nod before scooping her up out of your arms and rocking her in his. Calum sends you a warm smile, and you smile back — but doesn’t reach your eyes. Calum notices.
***
Your quietness lasts into the car journey home.
You think Calum hasn’t noticed — his non-stop excited chatter about everything he plans to do with Harper, how happy he is for Michael, occupies the space. He has, though. He’s talking more to fill the silence as if he thinks that’ll stop you from thinking about whatever is weighing on your mind. He knows he can’t avoid it forever though.
He notices the faraway look on your face, in your eyes — it’s one he’s seen before, and he knows it means you’re deep in thought. He isn’t sure what about, although he’s not oblivious to the fact that you’ve been acting this way since meeting Harper.
He doesn’t bring it up until after dinner, when you’re sat in your usual spot on the sofa, hands running through Duke’s fur. It seems like a nervous thing — like a distraction from whatever was making you feel so anxious.
“Darling?” He tries, picking Duke up and setting him down in his lap, so he could sit next to you. “What’s going on?”
You can’t bear to say it.
The thought of him reacting in the same way as most family members and friends did, made your stomach turn. There was no escaping it though. It was a conversation that had ended a relationship before. You hope deep in your heart that it wouldn’t end this one too.
“Calum...” You start, taking a deep breath before continuing. He furrows his eyebrows in concern, like he had no idea what you were going to say — like he was bracing himself for what was to come. “I don’t really know how to say this. I hate having this conversation, but after today, I just feel like I need to tell you.”
He nods, his heart rate increasing as the feeling that you’re about to drop a bombshell on him becomes more apparent. He doesn’t rush you, though. Just waits for you to carry on.
“I don’t want to have children.” You admit, covering your face with your hand as a few tears slip at the statement. “Not ever. And after seeing you with Harper today, I just... I don’t know if you feel the same way.”
Calum can’t help but feel a sense of relief at your words. With the way you were acting, he felt as though what you were going to say was much worse.
“Hey,” He soothes, wrapping his arm around your shoulders and pulling you close to him. He moves Duke out of his lap to create space for you — so he can hold you as close as possible. “Listen to me, gorgeous. You don’t have to worry about that, okay? Whatever you want is okay. I’m right here with you.”
You can’t help but sob against his neck, like everything you had been feeling had built up to the point where it was all coming out. His warm palms are soothing against your back, moving up and down in a comforting gesture. He just waits until you catch your breath a little — until your tears slow down to where they’re only occasionally slipping down your cheeks.
“Talk to me.” He almost whispers, knowing you weren’t finished, that there was more than you already said. He didn’t know that it ran so deep. He wasn’t sure why it was such a huge deal, but he wanted to know. “I’m listening, babe. Whatever you’re thinking.”
“Everyone makes me feel like I’m crazy for not wanting my own children.” You explain, wiping underneath your eyes to get rid of the tears as they fell. You thought back to everytime it came up in conversation. How your parents told you you’d change your mind when you found ‘the one,’ yet Calum was right in front of you, and you knew it still wasn’t what you wanted. “It makes me feel like a bad person. Like my life isn’t going to be fulfilled if I don’t give my parents grandchildren.”
Calum shakes his head.
“That’s not true, my love.” He replies, not wanting to invalidate your fears, but also hurting over the fact that you had kept it bottled up for so long. “You do not need to have children just for your parents sake. Or for anyone, for that matter. You’re not a bad person for not wanting that, okay? Far from it. You’re my favourite person in the world.”
A small smile graces your lips, followed by the genre pressure of Calum placing his against yours in a soft kiss. You felt much better for getting your feelings out, for explaining everything — as well as hearing Calum’s reassurances. Although, you can’t get the image of Calum holding Harper out of your head.
“What about you, though?” You ask tearfully, trying not to let your emotions get the better of you once more. Your voice wavers as you speak, and it makes Calum’s heart ache that thinking about him in all of this caused that.
“What about me?”
“I saw how you looked at Harper,” You sigh sadly, thinking about the content expression on his face as he held the sweet baby. “Don’t you want that for yourself? To have your own baby?”
Calum thinks to himself for a moment. He thinks about how deeply in love he is with you, how content he is with his relationship — and how not deeply he had thought about having children. It was always one of those things where if it happens, great, but if it doesn’t — that’s fine too. It was never an absolute when he thought about his life. He knows that if he has to choose between you and having children — he chooses you, everytime.
“I want you to be happy,” He states, like it was the simplest thing in the world. He means it. His hand gently grips your face, tilting your chin so you’re looking right at him. He thumb softly wipes away any remaining tears on your cheeks. “And if not having children is what is going to make you happy, then that’s what we’ll do.”
“Are you sure?”
He nods, moving closer until his nose nudges yours.
“Yeah, besides, it means I don’t have to share you with anyone else.” Calum confirms, smiling when a relieved giggle escapes your lips at his words. “Well, apart from Duke. You give him enough attention as it is.”
“Shut up,” You laugh, playfully hitting his chest as you reach over for Duke and set him down in between the two of you. “Duke is less needy than you.”
“Yeah, yeah.” He rolls his eyes, pulling you closer until your head is resting on his shoulder. “Seriously though, babe. Think about it. We’re about to spend the evening arguing over what to watch before sleeping for 12 hours, with no interruptions. Michael will be lucky to get three hours sleep tonight, until he wakes up to a screaming baby.”
“Exactly my point.” You reply. “We just get to do the fun stuff, like cuddle her until she cries and then give her back.”
He nods, sighing contently as he begins to scroll through Netflix. You finally feel as though you can calm down — like there was no longer the burden of wondering how Calum would feel about your plans on not having children. As you sit there, trying not to fall asleep after winning the debate on what to watch — you realise this is what you want your life to be.
“Being the fun uncle sounds like a good plan to me, babe.”

Jean Michel Basquiat
Jean-Michel Basquiat (French: December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent.
Basquiat first achieved fame as part of SAMO, a graffiti duo who wrote enigmatic epigrams in the cultural hotbed of the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the late 1970s, where rap, punk, and street art coalesced into early hip-hop music culture.
By the early 1980s, his neo-expressionist paintings were being exhibited in galleries and museums internationally.
At 21, Basquiat became the youngest artist to ever take part in document in Kassel.
At 22, he was the youngest to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial in New York. The Whitney Museum of American Art held a retrospective of his art in 1992.
Basquiat's art focused on dichotomies such as wealth versus poverty, integration versus segregation, and inner versus outer experience.
He appropriated poetry, drawing, and painting, and married text and image, abstraction, figuration, and historical information mixed with contemporary critique.
Basquiat used social commentary in his paintings as a tool for introspection and for identifying with his experiences in the black community of his time, as well as attacks on power structures and systems of racism.
Basquiat's visual poetics were acutely political and direct in their criticism of colonialism and support for class struggle.
Since his death at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose in 1988, his work has steadily increased in value.
At a Sotheby's auction in May 2017, Untitled, a 1982 painting by Basquiat depicting a black skull with red and yellow rivulets, sold for $110.5 million, becoming one of the most expensive paintings ever purchased.
It also set a new record high for an American artist at auction.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 22, 1960, shortly after the death of his older brother, Max. He was the second of four children of Matilde Basquiat (née Andrade’s) (July 28, 1934 – November 17, 2008) and Gérard Basquiat (1930 – July 7, 2013).
He had two younger sisters: Liane, born in 1964, and Jeanine, born in 1967.
His father, Gérard Basquiat, was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and his mother, Matilde Basquiat, who was of Puerto Rican descent, was born in Brooklyn, New York.
Matilde instilled a love for art in her young son by taking him to art museums in Manhattan and enrolling him as a junior member of the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
Basquiat was a precocious child who learned how to read and write by the age of four and was a gifted artist.
His teachers, including artist José Machado, noticed his artistic abilities, and his mother encouraged her son's artistic talent.
In 1967, Basquiat started attending Saint Ann's School, an arts-oriented exclusive private school.
There he met his friend Marc Prezzo; together they created a children's book, written by Basquiat at the age of seven, and illustrated by Prezzo.
At the age of seven in 1968, Basquiat was hit by a car while playing in the street.
His arm was broken and he suffered several internal injuries; he eventually underwent a splenectomy.
While he was recuperating from his injuries, his mother brought him a copy of Gray's Anatomy to keep him occupied.
This book would prove to be influential in his future artistic outlook.
His parents separated that year and he and his sisters were raised by their father.
His mother had been committed to a mental institution when he was 10 and thereafter spent her life in and out of institutions.
By the age of 11, Basquiat was fully fluent in French, Spanish and English, and an avid reader of all three languages.
His family resided in Bodrum Hill, Brooklyn, for five years, then moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1974, where Basquiat studied at Saint John's School in Cond ado.
After two years, they returned to New York City.
Due to his mother's instability and family unrest, Basquiat ran away from home at 15.
He slept on park benches in Washington Square Park, and was arrested then returned to the care of his father within a week.
Basquiat left Edward R. Murrow High School in the 10th grade and then attended City-As-School, an alternative high school in Manhattan, home to many artistic students who failed at conventional schooling.
In May 1978, Basquiat and his schoolmate Al Diaz began spray painting graffiti on buildings in Lower Manhattan, working under the pseudonym SAMO (same old shit).
They inscribed poetic and satirical advertising slogans such as "SAMO© AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO GOD."
In June 1978, Basquiat was expelled from City-As-School for pieing the principal.
At the age of 17, his father kicked him out of the house after he decided to drop out of school.
Basquiat worked for the Unique Clothing Warehouse at 718 Broadway in NoHo while continuing to write graffiti at night.
On December 11, 1978, The Village Voice published an article about the SAMO graffiti.

In 1979, Basquiat appeared on the live public-access television show TV Party hosted by Glenn O'Brien, and the two started a friendship.
He made regular appearances on the show over the next few years.
In April 1979, Basquiat met Michael Holman at the Canal Zone Party and they formed the noise rock band Test Pattern, which was later renamed Gray.
Other members of Gray included Shannon Dawson, Nick Taylor, Wayne Clifford and Vincent Gallo.
The band performed at nightclubs, such as Max's Kansas City, CBGB, Hurrah, and the Mudd Club.
Around this time, Basquiat lived in the East Village with his friend Alexis Adler, a Barnard biology graduate.
He often copied diagrams of chemical compounds borrowed from Adler's science textbooks.
She documented Basquiat's creative explorations as he transformed the floors, walls, doors and furniture into his artworks.
He also made postcards with his friend Jennifer Stein.
While selling postcards in SoHo, Basquiat spotted Andy Warhol at W.P.A. restaurant with art critic Henry Geldzahler.
He sold Warhol a postcard titled Stupid Games, Bad Ideas.
In October 1979, at Arleen Schloss's open space called A's, Basquiat showed his SAMO montages using colour Xerox copies of his works.
Schloss also allowed Basquiat to use the space to create his "MAN MADE" clothing, which were upcycled garments he painted on.
In November 1979, costume designer Patricia Field carried his clothing line in her upscale boutique on 8th street in the East Village.
Field also displayed his sculptures in the store window.
After Basquiat and Diaz ended their friendship, the SAMO project ended with the epitaph "SAMO IS DEAD," inscribed on the walls of SoHo buildings in early 1980.
When they separated, a mock wave started for SAMO.
Later that year, Basquiat began filming Glenn O'Brien's independent film Downtown 81 (2000), originally titled New York Beat.
The film featured some of Gray's recordings on its soundtrack.

Today we remember the passing of Peter Green who Died: July 25, 2020 in Canvey Island, Essex, England
Peter Allen Greenbaum (29 October 1946 – 25 July 2020), known professionally as Peter Green, was an English blues rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. As the founder of Fleetwood Mac, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Green's songs, such as "Albatross", "Black Magic Woman", "Oh Well", "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" and "Man of the World", appeared on singles charts, and several have been adapted by a variety of musicians.
Green was a major figure in the "second great epoch" of the British blues movement. Eric Clapton praised his guitar playing, and B.B. King commented, "He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats." Green was interested in expressing emotion in his songs, rather than showing off how fast he could play. His trademark sound included string bending, vibrato, and economy of style.
In June 1996, Green was voted the third-best guitarist of all time in Mojo magazine. In 2015, Rolling Stone ranked him at number 58 in its list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". Green's tone on the instrumental "The Super-Natural" was rated as one of the 50 greatest of all time by Guitar Player in 2004.
Peter Allen Greenbaum was born in Bethnal Green, London, on 29 October 1946, into a Jewish family, the youngest of Joe and Ann Greenbaum's four children. His brother, Michael, taught him his first guitar chords and by the age of 11 Green was teaching himself. He began playing professionally by the age of 15, while working for a number of East London shipping companies. He first played bass guitar in a band called Bobby Dennis and the Dominoes, which performed pop chart covers and rock 'n' roll standards, including Shadows covers. He later stated that Hank Marvin was his guitar hero and he played the Shadows' song "Midnight" on the 1996 tribute album Twang. He went on to join a rhythm and blues outfit, the Muskrats, then a band called the Tridents in which he played bass. By Christmas 1965 Green was playing lead guitar in Peter Bardens' band "Peter B's Looners", where he met drummer Mick Fleetwood. It was with Peter B's Looners that he made his recording début with the single "If You Wanna Be Happy" with "Jodrell Blues" as a B-side. His recording of "If You Wanna Be Happy" was an instrumental cover of a song by Jimmy Soul. In 1966, Green and some other members of Peter B's Looners formed another act, Shotgun Express, a Motown-style soul band which also included Rod Stewart, but Green left the group after a few months.
In October 1965, before joining Bardens' group, Green had the opportunity to fill in for Eric Clapton in John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers for four gigs. Soon afterwards, when Clapton left the Bluesbreakers, Green became a full-time member of Mayall's band from July 1966. Green made his recording debut with the Bluesbreakers in 1966 on the album A Hard Road (1967), which featured two of his own compositions, "The Same Way" and "The Supernatural". The latter was one of Green's first instrumentals, which would soon become a trademark. So proficient was he that his musician friends bestowed upon him the nickname "The Green God". In 1967, Green decided to form his own blues band and left the Bluesbreakers.
Green's new band, with former Bluesbreaker Mick Fleetwood on drums and Jeremy Spencer on guitar, was initially called "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer". Bob Brunning was temporarily employed on bass guitar (Green's first choice, Bluesbreakers' bassist John McVie, was not yet ready to join the band). Within a month they played at the Windsor National Jazz and Blues Festival in August 1967, and were quickly signed to Mike Vernon's Blue Horizon label. Their repertoire consisted mainly of blues covers and originals, mostly written by Green, but some were written by slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer. The band's first single, Spencer's "I Believe My Time Ain't Long" with Green's "Rambling Pony" as a B-side, did not chart but their eponymous debut album made a significant impression, remaining in the British charts for 37 weeks. By September 1967, John McVie had replaced Brunning.
Although classic blues covers and blues-styled originals remained prominent in the band's repertoire through this period, Green rapidly blossomed as a songwriter and contributed many successful original compositions from 1968 onwards. The songs chosen for single release showed Green's style gradually moving away from the group's blues roots into new musical territory. Their second studio album Mr. Wonderful was released in 1968 and continued the formula of the first album. In the same year they scored a hit with Green's "Black Magic Woman" (later covered by Santana), followed by the guitar instrumental "Albatross" (1969), which reached number one in the British singles charts. More hits written by Green followed, including "Oh Well", "Man of the World" (both 1969) and the ominous "The Green Manalishi" (1970). The double album Blues Jam in Chicago (1969) was recorded at the Chess Records Ter-Mar Studio in Chicago. There, under the joint supervision of Vernon and Marshall Chess, they recorded with some of their American blues heroes including Otis Spann, Big Walter Horton, Willie Dixon, J. T. Brown and Buddy Guy.
While touring Europe in late March 1970, Green took LSD at a party at a commune in Munich, an incident cited by Fleetwood Mac manager Clifford Davis as the crucial point in his mental decline. Communard Rainer Langhans mentions in his autobiography that he and Uschi Obermaier met Green in Munich, where they invited him to their Highfisch-Kommune. Fleetwood Mac roadie Dinky Dawson remembers that Green went to the party with another roadie, Dennis Keane, and that when Keane returned to the band's hotel to explain that Green would not leave the commune, Keane, Dawson and Mick Fleetwood travelled there to fetch him. By contrast, Green stated that he had fond memories of jamming at the commune when speaking in 2009: "I had a good play there, it was great, someone recorded it, they gave me a tape. There were people playing along, a few of us just fooling around and it was... yeah it was great." He told Jeremy Spencer at the time "That's the most spiritual music I've ever recorded in my life." After a final performance on 20 May 1970, Green left Fleetwood Mac.
Green was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent time in psychiatric hospitals undergoing electroconvulsive therapy during the mid-1970s. Many sources attest to his lethargic, trancelike state during this period. In 1977, Green was arrested for threatening his accountant David Simmons with a shotgun. The exact circumstances are the subject of much speculation, the most famous being that Green wanted Simmons to stop sending money to him. In the 2011 BBC documentary Peter Green: Man of the World, Green stated that at the time he had just returned from Canada needing money and that, during a telephone conversation with his accounts manager, he alluded to the fact that he had brought back a gun from his travels. His accounts manager promptly called the police, who surrounded Green's house.
In 1979, Green began to re-emerge professionally. With the help of his brother Michael, he was signed to Peter Vernon-Kell's PVK label, and produced a string of solo albums starting with 1979's In the Skies. He also made an uncredited appearance on Fleetwood Mac's double album Tusk, on the song "Brown Eyes", released the same year.
In 1981, Green contributed to "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Super Brains" on Mick Fleetwood's solo album The Visitor. He recorded various sessions with a number of other musicians notably the Katmandu album A Case for the Blues with Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry, Vincent Crane from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Len Surtees of The Nashville Teens. Despite attempts by Gibson Guitar Corporation to start talks about producing a "Peter Green signature Les Paul" guitar, Green's instrument of choice at this time was a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion guitar. In 1986, Peter and his brother Micky contributed to the album A Touch of Sunburn by Lawrie 'The Raven' Gaines (under the group name 'The Enemy Within'). This album has been reissued many times under such titles as Post Modern Blues and Peter Green and Mick Green – Two Greens Make a Blues, often crediting Pirates guitarist Mick Green.
In 1988 Green was quoted as saying: "I'm at present recuperating from treatment for taking drugs. It was drugs that influenced me a lot. I took more than I intended to. I took LSD eight or nine times. The effect of that stuff lasts so long ... I wanted to give away all my money ... I went kind of holy – no, not holy, religious. I thought I could do it, I thought I was all right on drugs. My failing!"
Enduring periods of mental illness and destitution throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Green moved in with his older brother Len and Len's wife Gloria, and his mother in their house in Great Yarmouth, where a process of recovery began. He lived for a period on Canvey Island, Essex.
Green married Jane Samuels in January 1978; the couple divorced in 1979. They had a daughter, Rosebud(born 1978).
Green died on July 25, 2020 at the age of 73.
