i鈥檝e wanted to experiment with faux taxidermy for a while now, so i decided to kick things off with some bugs. i learned a lot, and now that this set is finished & in the gallery i鈥檓 already planning more. they鈥檙e so much fun to make!
also! i want to mention that these are inspired by one of my favorite artists, beastieandbone (on instagram) who does incredible paper taxidermy art.

No one beats the Goliath beetle family when it comes to size, in terms of both length and weight. Males of the largest species can grow up to 11 cm (4.3 in) long and weigh over 50g (1.7), making them some of the largest insects on Earth.

If you like what I do, consider leaving a tip or buying me a ko-fi!
Let me tell a bit about how I got him. At one point I bought 3 grubies of the ugandan beetle ((with 1 already being in cocoon)) in hopes for one of them to be female and partner to Baba, but as you know Baba passed away before that could happen.聽
And now, there is he!
This is the one who came out of the cocoon with a lovely blue & orange colour combination. He is still not the most active yet, but I had to take him out and patch up that hole on their elytra. Now I don鈥檛 need to worry about water getting directly to the wing when I mist or some substrate getting stuck in it when digging around since the purpose for that elytra is to protect the wings. So you can imagine the hole is no good in this case.聽
Let me tell you though, he was not happy with me poking around.
