The first night, John and Paul stayed in their suite, listening to records and reading fan mail. George, who had been signed for 100 pounds a day by the Daily Express to write of his experiences in Paris, went to a nightclub in the Place Pigalle.
Back in the City of Light, John and Paul slept till three o'clock in the afternoon. That much everybody agreed on.
Quote by Vincent Mulchrone from Daily Mail:
George Harrison was astir early, but John Lennon and Paul Mccartney slumbered on until franctic photographers forced them at lens point into the Champs-Élysées.
Derek Taylor (a British journalist) wanted to know why the Beatles slept so much. "My office wants to know what they're doing in Paris, so they'd better be doing something."
Mr. Taylor, you better not worry, they are doing something alright. My head just running wild with theories, sleeping till 3 PM in the afternoon would only mean that John and Paul stayed up till 8 AM in the morning to do god knows what (definitely not just listening to records, composing and answering fan mails, right?)
And then they emerge from their hotel room looking like a newlywed couple in the afternoon of January 15th 1964
And then the pictures Paul personally took of John
since I've learned that paul mccartney is apparently regularly in contact with john lennon's ghost I would like to propose a new theory to the mclennon truthers that their relationship did take a turn but only after he died
"If you go to a party and the husband and wife have been having a row - there's a tension, an atmosphere. And you wonder whether you are making things worse by being there. I think that was kind of the situation we found with Ringo. He was probably feeling a little bit odd because of the mental strangeness with John and Yoko and Paul." -George Martin
Get Back is honestly so intense I’ve restarted a tumblr blog because of it, listened to hours of podcasts, made my way almost completely through the solo works of Lennon and McCartney respectively…and I’ve only made it to half an hour into episode 2.
Empires have risen and fallen over less than the micro-emotions and dynamics of 15 minutes of Get Back.
If John had lived yk these sentimental fuckers would redo the David Bailey photo shoot but now that they’re old and i’d eat up every moment of it. I want a fanart of this B A D
I love how both John and Paul truly believed Linda and Yoko were like, a phase, like soon enough the other would get bored or sick of the girl and soon enough come crawling back to the other respectively and keep their little weird relationship/partnership as it was and always was. "I don't care if he's got all these flings with women, because at the end of the day he'll still come back to me and he'll still be my partner, mine mine mine—"
And then when they realized these women were here to stay, and were going to be more involved in the band's dynamics and business... It was like, earth shattering. The world as they knew it, their world, was officially changing, and to both of them, not for the better. Learning and reading and hearing about it was all tantrums, depressive, manic spiraling, rampant jealousy, refusing to communicate, not talking about what happened in India or refusing to acknowledge what happened in India, etc. etc.
In the end these women played a part (whether intentionally or not) in the eventual divorce between the two.
John and Paul refusing to both acknowledge and accept any serious contender to their own all consuming, intimate and special little relationship/partnership, is what played a part in their inevitable breakup.
Their wives were treated as one of the many threats to the Lennon-McCartney partnership/dynamic/relationship/whatever that was by John and Paul.
Two things that I learn while watching Understanding Lennon/McCartney:
-Yoko was a little obssesed with John. It was my personal opinion ages ago, but I thought that it was unfair one, cuz I didn’t like her. Now I feel like it’s not only me. The girl was kinda crazy
-John was really suffering because of how Paul treated him. I mean, we don’t know the details about their relationship, but it makes a lot of sense. The drugs, visible depressive humour…Man, he really loved him. And this love ruined him so bad
Of course it’s only my point of view, my interpretation etc. Feel free to share yours!
do you have any recent beatles fic faves? :) open to any ship I’m in a fic drought (loved your latest btw!)
Oh thank you! I’ve been so bad about reading fic lately, I’ve had a bunch of tabs open for ages. But here’s what’s in my recent bookmarks:
I’ve loved @planetaire two most recent ones monkey’s paw which has SUCH a good john, and also covers the Japan leg of the ‘66 tour which you don’t see often. Also don’t talk, take my hand about jpy 1968 yellow submarine chaos, a favourite topic of mine, as I’m sure dedicated readers well know.
your lucky break by @o-boogies - I feel like everyone’s read this, and of course why wouldn’t you!! Not only does it pay off on the inherent sex appeal of a jp may/december thing, but also has sublime world-building. What a delightful universe. Captures the mclennon mutual insanity perfectly!
Like I Please You by @eveepe - sexy with just the right brand of insane mclennon sexual escalation. Yeah just put his dick in your mouth paul, it’s nothing!
1969-headache by phyllistine - lovely little character piece about get back! Nails all the dynamics, the undercurrent of love as well as all the overwhelming normal current of tension and awkwardness.
Play me one of yours (been thinking about the scene where Paul’s aunt tries to take his guitar for several weeks now…) and the more recent Hurricaneville (dreamy and lovely and so richly textured) both by the always wonderful @crepesuzette2023
And The Story Continues @javelinbk ‘s hot follow up to beloved Our Version of Events. It’s got glorious smut! It’s got delicious angst! Can’t go wrong :)
Also, not a recent one but one I recently revisited while looking for a quote and realised I didn’t bookmark so quickly rectified that because it’s great - ageless children, animal sweat by @eyeball2eyeball
small rant about 5 seconds of a silly kids cartoon from the 60's and a ship
I'm having emotions. George sounds so sweet idk why. That adorable little chuckle. i want him. Also Ringo looks so.. enamored!!!! like they would just kiss right then and there lmaoo
no like they're so in love. people talk about mclennon all the time but i don't see enough starrison rants
yeah this cartoon was a shitshow but it's my shitshow and it actually kinda provides comfort for me in a weird way. like. ringo gives kitty cat vibes and george gives kitty cat lover vibes (not in a zo0philic way lmao)
starrison gives me a weird itch in my brain idk why. i just really really enjoy this dynamic. yeah yeah they (probably) weren't like that irl (i dont watch much of them irl someone fill me in if i lost details) but in this show, chemistry is there. maybe they could be queerplatonic like john and paul or sumthin idfk
idk they are just my blorbos and i project a lot of things on them i guess
