in which luke witnesses your shot at the national championship.
warnings; none that i can think of (may upset some wisconsin fans, sorry if this is too soon)
If you could tell the hockey gods to go to hell at this moment, you would not hesitate.
March 24, 2024. Whittemore Center Arena, University of New Hampshire. The University of Wisconsin vs. The Ohio State University. 2 vs. 1. A little over eight minutes left in the game. The score? 0-0.
Despite outshooting Wisconsin throughout the entire game, you had not scored a single goal. You had had a few close chances, sliding in past Wisconsin’s defensemen a few times, but just couldn’t convert. At this point, you were thanking Raygan for her outstanding performance in goal. But most definitely not the hockey gods.
The voice of Coach Muzerall fluttered through your ears as she told you all to give it everything you got. You were sure Mark Johnson was giving the same speech to his girls at the opposing bench, but honestly, you were too nervous to care. Your eyes wandered around the arena in hopes of finding the only person who could offer any comfort at the moment — Luke.
Unfortunately, Luke had missed the past few games of the NCAA tournament — even your earlier Frozen Four game against Clarkson — because of his schedule with the Preds. Luckily for you, the team was rewarded with a complete off day after their win over Detroit last night. So Luke did the only he could think of. He bought a plane ticket to Durham as soon as he landed in Nashville, and ubered to the arena in order to see you play. You woke up to a text saying that he’d be there, and were beyond excited (and relieved).
As you skated onto the ice in preparation to resume the game, you were able to locate him about halfway up in the stands. He was on his feet, decked up in his scarlet and gray apparel, with a buckeye necklace hanging around his neck. In his hands was a sign that read ‘BUCKEYES > BUCKY’. A small smile crept its way onto your face, wondering where he would have even gotten the materials to make it, but you didn’t care. His support meant everything.
After moving your eyes off of Luke, you focused on Cayla Barnes, who was stationed off to the right of you. She gave you a quick nod, and you knew she meant business. Just as you focused your attention back on the ice, the puck had dropped, with the Badgers winning the draw.
You quickly moved into your own zone, parking yourself in front of the nearest Wisconsin player, which happened to be Britta Curl. The puck passed back and forth between a few of the players before Laila Edwards ended up taking a shot. Raygan managed to kick save it out of your zone as most of your teammates went to make a line change.
They weren’t quick enough, however. Wisconsin had managed to quickly pass the puck out of their zone to center ice, where Curl was waiting patiently with her stick. The puck fell into line perfectly as she entered your zone. You rushed back as fast as you could as you saw Raygan prepare for a wrist shot, and somehow managed to poke the puck away as you tangled up with her. This time, the puck landed right on Cayla’s stick.
Cayla quickly rushed up ice as you let out a small breath. You followed suit, backing her up in case a Wisconsin player managed to steal the puck back. It didn’t take long, however, for Cayla to find Hannah Bilka at center ice, with Joy Dunne on her tail.
You held your breath as the puck landed on Joy Dunne’s stick. If there was one person who wasn’t going to fail you, it was her. She was your team’s leading point scorer with 38 points on the year (23 of which were goals), the WCHA Rookie of the Year, and the NCAA Rookie of the Year. Almost immediately, she sent the puck flying right past McNaughton’s glove and into the goal.
Cheers erupted from the ice, bench, and stands as you were swallowed up into a team huddle by the glass. Joy excitedly made an “O-H” with her hands before embracing you all and making her way to the bench. You smiled softly and looked up at the clock — 7:13 left in the third. You skated off the ice and Stephanie Markowski took your place by center ice.
Locating Luke again, a bright smile was plastered wide across his face as he watched the replay. He had met Joy, who you embraced as a little sister, when he had come to campus to visit you earlier during the all star break. Needless to say, he was proud of her, as anyone should be. What you didn’t know, however, is just how proud he was of you. Your defensive poke-check set the scoring play into motion and here you were just over seven minutes away from winning the national championship.
Time couldn’t have passed more slowly for you as the clock wound down. Wisconsin had created many more scoring opportunities, but just couldn’t convert (you had to thank Raygan once again). You were back on the ice with two minutes to go, scrambling back into the defensive zone as the Badgers pulled McNaughton in order to gain an extra attacker. Your heart raced as you saw Casey O’Brien rush onto the ice, skating swiftly towards your goal.
You knew nothing good was going to happen if you couldn’t calm down. So, as the puck was passed to Ava Murphy, you took a deep breath and raced in front of her as she wound up for a slap shot. As she let go of the puck, you dove in front of it, the puck redirecting off of your ankle and into neutral territory.
Man, did that hurt like a motherfucker. The crowd simultaneously grimaced and cheered for you as you recollected yourself off of the ice. You swear you could hear Luke’s voice yelling your name out of the entire crowd, telling you to get up and kick ass.
The puck was quickly regathered by Caroline Harvey as she circled through neutral ice, waiting for her teammates to reenter the zone. Once completed, the puck was passed to Lacey Eden as Emma Peschel tried to poke it away, but in vain. Caroline passed it to Charla Edwards, who lined up to take a shot from the blue line. None of your teammates were guarding her, so you did what you had to do. You once again skated up and prepared your body to be hit with a hard piece of vulcanized rubber. When it did, you fell to the ground, but got right back up as cheers erupted once again.
“Let’s go, Y/N!” Quinn Kuntz yelled from the bench, and you struggled to skate, but the puck had bounced right back to Edwards. Instead of trying to move around you, she wound up for another slap shot, but that one didn’t get past you either. The puck once again hit your body as you blocked the shot, falling to the ice once again. Finally, Emma was able to clear the zone as the puck raced towards the other end of the ice.
At that moment, you used your stick to propel you towards the bench. You knew you weren’t seriously injured — you’d just have a few bad bruises here and there — but your body hurt like a bitch from taking all of those shots. You were greeted with pats on the back from all your teammates on the bench as Hannah jumped back on in your place. You smiled softly as a response, focusing on the jumbotron to see the time left in the game.
One minute. If you could hold off Wisconsin for one minute, you would be a national champion. You watched anxiously as your teammates tried to clear the zone towards the now empty net of Wisconsin, but to no avail. Finally, Joy had managed to send it down the length of the ice, which forced a quick line change. You hopped on the ice with around 30 seconds left and made your way into the defensive zone yet again.
Since McNaughton was pulled, the Badgers had an extra attacker, which made it harder to defend your goal than usual. You weren’t going to give up that easily, however. The puck was passed back in forth between the six Badgers on the ice, each one of them waiting for the perfect shot. The clock wound down as the puck finally landed on Sophie Hegleson’s stick.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion. You could hear nothing as you once again forced yourself to skate in front of her, knowing that this goal would change the trajectory of the game. Your teammates were counting on you, so you were going to give it your all. You braced yourself for impact as the puck hit your back, your body sacrificing itself for the win exactly as the buzzer went off.
The game was over. You were officially a national champion. The sounds of your teammates yelling filled your ears as you let your body collapse to the ice, both in pain and in shock. You took your helmet off to gather yourself as a small smile made its way across your face. You had done it.
Emma skated over to you and pulled you up off of the ice, and you both rushed over to join the dog pile of your teammates on top of Raygan. Although you couldn’t see him, Luke was smiling down at you, a look of immense pride present on his face. He fumbled with the buckeye necklace hanging around his neck as he couldn’t contain his excitement, knowing that you were a national champion.
After you all had settled down and received your medals (but not before shaking hands and congratulating Wisconsin on their tremendous effort), you were allowed to bring family members and friends onto the ice to take pictures. As Luke made his way onto the ice, you excitedly skated over to him, and his arms were wide open to catch you. You smiled widely, your eyes shining brightly, “I did it, Luke. I really did it.”
He cupped your face with his hands, nodding his head in agreement, “You did it, my love. I’m so fucking proud of you.”
You smiled brightly up at him again, your eyes swelling with tears. Luke pulled you into another hug, gently kissing the top of your head, “Go celebrate with your teammates. I’ll be right here waiting for you when you’re done.” He reassured, giving you a soft smile as he wiped away some stray tears that had fallen with the pads of his thumbs. You nodded, skating over and joining Joy. When you were finally given the trophy after she did, you hoisted it high up into the air, ready to show it off to the entire world.
After all, it’s always been Ohio against the world.

They were little more than pickup basketball games, but they were unlike any other game played before.
The 1947 contests, in a gym at the Navy hospital in Norco, changed the lives of the players — each one in a wheelchair — and helped alter the way we think about people with physical limitations.
They were games played by two teams of heroes — wounded soldiers, sailors and Marines — all recovering from paralysis or the loss of limbs from serving on the front lines of World War II. Wheelchair basketball this week is the centerpiece of the Paralympic Games going on in Tokyo — but in 1947 it was pretty unusual to have recovering military members participating in organized sports.
It began when Dr. Gerald H. Gray, a physician at the hospital then known as the U.S. Naval Hospital, Corona, visited the Birmingham VA hospital in Van Nuys in March 1947 and was impressed to find patients playing basketball from their wheelchairs.
After watching them soundly defeat a team of doctors in wheelchairs, Dr. Gray invited the Birmingham team to come to Norco to play his own patients — a team which then was organized only in his mind.

Gray and coach Bill O’Connell. (Photo provided by Kevin Bash)
“We challenged the boys from Birmingham … and did we take a licking! But the boys were sold,” Dr. Gray said in an interview given to the Oakland Tribune, May 20, 1947.
After some quick practice, the Norco team — they christened themselves the Rolling Devils — inflicted a bit of revenge on Birmingham three days later.  “We licked the pants off them,” said Dr. Gray.

Paraplegics had played basketball against able-bodied people riding in wheelchairs elsewhere, but the two games in Norco — March 18 and 21, 1947 — were the first-ever wheelchair games in which both teams were paraplegics, according to the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.
Both teams went on to play many games with other teams.
The Rolling Devils in the next two months defeated 22 straight opponents — mostly clubs or universities with able-bodied players playing in wheelchairs. The Birmingham team, the Flying Wheels, later went on a nationwide tour.
Norco’s Rolling Devils were led by a truly remarkable man — Marine Col. John Winterholler, a star basketball player at University of Wyoming before enlisting in the Marines in 1940. Captured by the Japanese in the Philippines at the start of World War II, he was part of the infamous Bataan Death March.
Barely surviving his ordeal as a POW, he was left paralyzed from the waist down. Winterholler regained his strength at Norco, and when Dr. Gray suggested forming a team, he embraced the thought of playing again.
Navy nurse and physical therapist Elizabeth Kinzer O’Farrell in her book “WWII … A Navy Nurse Remembers,” recalled that the medical staff at Norco was a bit hesitant to allow men with significant medical issues to play a potentially rugged sport. But the improvement seen in the players’ physical and mental well-being was immediate.
“Suddenly, we were seeing our patients beginning to feel like men, not … waiting around to be sent to a veterans hospital for the rest of their lives, or worse, home to become an object of pity and burden to their families,” wrote O’Farrell, who worked at Norco in 1947 and 1948.
Tumblr media

“The patients seemed more confident, as though they had somehow proved to themselves if not yet to anyone else that they could succeed at something, and that just maybe if they really tried they might be able to make some kind of life for themselves.”
Even just watching fellow wounded men involved in such rigorous activity was an inspiration to many.
Dr. Gray said one Marine who had been shot and paralyzed in the battle at Iwo Jima arrived at Norco overwhelmingly depressed.
“He laid motionless in bed and when anyone approached he covered his head,” Dr. Gray told the Tribune. “He didn’t talk, he didn’t smile, but once he had played basketball.”
It took a while but “talk of the game got him down to the gym where he watched from the sidelines. The ball felt pretty good when he picked it up. He tossed one toward the basket. It went in,” said Dr. Gray.
A breakthrough had been achieved. That Marine was later released to his home from the hospital. Gray said he had then become “a fast-talking, free and easy fellow who will be able to make his way over the tough places.”
“It was indeed a historic game,” wrote Armand Thiboutot, author of “Wheelchairs Can Jump, A History,” about the 1947 games at Norco. “This pioneering match swiftly led to the formation, in 1948, of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The NWBA now provides dedicated administrative support to more than 200 teams, children and adults, as well as U.S. veterans injured in recent conflicts.”
A national wheelchair basketball tournament was first held in 1948, and the sport first appeared in the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960. More than 4,000 athletes are competing in a variety of sports at the Paralympics underway now in Tokyo.
“At first, wheelchair sports were shocking to many people, said David Davis, author of the recently released book, “Wheels of Courage: How Paralyzed Veterans from World War II Invented Wheelchair Sports, Fought for Disability Rights and Inspired a Nation.”
“If you were in a wheelchair you were pretty much stuck at home, or in an institution,” he said in an article last November in the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “The president (Franklin Roosevelt) got around in a wheelchair but he did not let himself be photographed in a wheelchair.”
But playing basketball from a wheelchair “showed that they could participate in life,” said Davis, a Los Angeles-based writer.
He also pointed out that the sport helped pave the way for later passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, bringing curb cuts, ADA bathrooms, ramps and railings and other improvements to assist everyone, whether permanently and temporarily physically limited.
In 2014 and 2016, in tribute to the role the Rolling Devils played in athletics, the city of Norco sponsored wheelchair basketball tournaments in the gym in which those first two games were played in 1947.
Success story
I got a note from reader Andy McCue, following our earlier column on the naval hospital at Norco. He pointed out that one of the thousands of World War II patients treated at the hospital was baseball owner and sports promoter Bill Veeck.
Veeck, future owner of the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians and the St. Louis Browns, was a 29-year-old Marine in the Pacific battle at Bougainville when his leg was badly damaged by a recoiling anti-aircraft gun.
He was sent to the hospital at Norco where he undertook the first of more than 30 operations for both bone damage and infections. He used an artificial leg for the rest of his life.
While a patient at Norco and still owner of the then-minor-league Milwaukee Brewers, he reportedly stayed busy negotiating contracts for his team and was rumored to be in the market for buying the White Sox, which he denied, according to news accounts.
After being released from Norco, he bought the Indians in 1947 and later signed the first African American — Larry Doby — to play in the American League.
Veeck, who died in 1987, was inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1991.

The Effective Ways Of Controlling Your Time
Tumblr media
Time management behavior is mostly a matter of choice. You can choose to increase efficiency or choose to be messy. Also, you can choose to focus and concentrate on the most valuable tasks or decide to devote your time to events that have little value to your life. However, one thing is common in the selection process that you are always free to choose whatever you want.
The initial point of preventing and eliminating the mental blocks to time management for you is to make a clear, unequivocal decision to effectively use your time, minute by minute, and hour by hour. You must decide if you want to become an expert in time management. Your goal should be to manage your time so that people respect you and use you as a role model for your working practices. In the book, "The Past Speaks," the author Geoff McCue features a story of a protagonist exhibiting extensive analysis of time and capturing echoes of sounds in the atmosphere. If the topic captures your attention, then it's a must-read for you.
However, this article highlights the effective ways of controlling your time.
1)      Plan Ahead
As you already know the schedule, planning the day the night before can save you a lot of time and energy. Try it once, and you'll see how it holds much of your time because you can start working on tasks right away instead of wasting valuable time on prioritizing several tasks.
2)      Spare Time
Most individuals work best in the morning, but decide to waste their precious time through email and meetings. The effect is: They start a new day scattered around, and are already in response mode. Also, after lunch, it doesn't seem very easy for them to perform substantial work because:
·         There are still many tasks on their things-to-do list,
·         Perhaps, they are tired and don't want to push themselves to do meaningful work
The long-term effects of this behavior are apparent: you will never touch anything important. But if the first thing you do at work is spend 2-3 hours on an important project, then you can win the game max by lunchtime. No matter what happens, you have made progress on what matters.
3)      Categorization
Categorization involves grouping similar tasks.  In categorization, all tasks are completed at once, instead of being distributed throughout the day. You can only batch email replies twice a day by checking and replying to emails. Likewise, you can prepare meals on Sundays for the whole week and categorize food into batches. The key is to find remarkably similar events and create a recurring time for them throughout the day or week.
4)      Intention
Before you complete a task, ask yourself: What is the goal I want to achieve, and how long will I be working on? Jot it down and set a timer (if it helps). In doing the original tasks, many trivial tasks come to your mind. These tasks are usually far less critical than the project you are working on. By having the exact purpose, and expected outcome, you can save yourself from these distractions. Therefore, each task you start should have a clear estimate of time, exact purpose, and expected outcome.
5)      Time Budgeting
Recognize how much time you usually spend on activities, and then make a weekly schedule to track them. Before adding any pledges, decide how much free time you have. And don't forget to arrange a time to relax.
In conclusion, if you can't control your day, the day will control you. Besides, you will always be a slave of such internal or external distractions pulling you away from important tasks of the day. Perhaps, you don't feel any consequence at the moment, but one day you will realize the value of effectively managing your time.
Author's Bio:
The author Geoff McCue was born and raised in Colorado, near Denver. He has always been a tinkerer and inventor since childhood. In his book "The Past Speaks" ISBN: 978-1-950088-76-8, he narrates a fictional story of a protagonist who tries to capture sound in the form of echoes within confined spaces. The story has extreme suspense and great lessons, which are indeed fascinating to all book lovers.

6 Things Every Home Buyer, Seller, and Owner Need to Know About Today’s Housing Market
Daniel Acker/Bloomberg via Getty Images
It doesn’t matter if you’re owning or renting, buying or selling, or still sitting on the sidelines waiting to join the game. Just about everyone wants to know what’s going on in the housing market.
Because it’s a moving target. While plummeting prices can be a boon for buyers, they can throw sellers into a panic—and, in a worst-case scenario, plunge the world into a recession, as we saw when the housing bubble burst a decade ago. Meanwhile, a lack of new housing coming onto the market can lead to price spikes for both buyers and renters.
That current dearth of new construction is exacerbating a national housing shortage and leading to an increase in prices, according to the recently released annual State of the Nation’s Housing report from the Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies.
“The major takeaway is that the housing market is strong,” says Daniel McCue, senior research associate at the center. But “there’s a housing shortage brought on by several years of low levels of homebuilding. It’s led to increased competition, which has driven up home prices. And it’s led to [a lack of] housing affordability.”
Here are six key findings from the report.
1. Homeownership rate is rising again
Over the past two years, homeownership has been rising again, hitting 64.4% of U.S. households in 2018. The rate rose 0.5% from the previous year, resulting in an additional 1.6 million households who closed on properties.
That’s fantastic news. The homeownership rate had plummeted during the financial crisis as scores of foreclosures swept through the country. Now it’s back up to what it was from about 1985 through 1995, according to McCue.
“Homeownership had declined a lot,” he says. “So [for many buyers] it was finally having the money and the income to make this happen.”
The bump was primarily thanks to more millennials and young Gen Xers flooding the market. An additional 1.1 million of them closed on properties from 2016 to 2018.
“You have a bigger group of young adults getting older and reaching the ages where they are getting married, having children, and reaching the prime first-time home buyer [point],” McCue says.
The boost in homeownership was in spite of record-high home prices in many parts of the country and rising mortgage interest rates.
In 2012, the monthly median home payment was only $1,176, after adjusting for inflation, according to the report. But just six years later, it had jumped almost 51%, to $1,775 a month.
“The fact that homeownership is rising despite all of the affordability challenges that buyers are facing reflects how important homeownership is to the American dream,” says Chief Economist Danielle Hale of realtor.com®.
2. Fewer folks are renting
Simple math: If the number of homeowners is rising, it means that the number of renters is falling. The number of households renting the roofs over their heads fell by 110,000, to 43.2 million, from 2017 through 2018. That’s in stark contrast to the previous 12 years, when the number of tenants grew by nearly 850,000 households annually.
Increasing rents, going up 3.6% annually in 2018 compared with 3.8% in 2017, may have something to do with it.
“Rents are high and rising,” says Hale. But homeownership tends to be more of a fixed cost as folks know what their monthly mortgage will be. “Renters tend to pay more of their income toward housing than homeowners do.”
But here’s another shift: Renters are becoming wealthier. About a quarter of them now have household incomes of $75,000 or more. That means many are choosing not to become homeowners even though they could afford to do so.
But more middle-class renters, earning between $45,000 and $75,000 a year, are becoming cost-burdened. The percentage of these folks spending more than 30% of their income (which is considered the max folks should pay for housing) shot up from 13% in 2001 to 25% in 2018, according to McCue.
3. The rate of new home construction is slowing
Even with record demand from prospective buyers, the rate of home construction slowed in 2018. Yes, the number of new, completed homes was up 2.8%, to 1.18 million units, from 2017 to 2018, but that growth rate is actually the lowest since 2012, when the recovery from the Great Recession kicked in.
“We’re eight years into the recovery, and we’re still only 75% back to normal rates of home building,” says McCue.
He blames the lack of building to increasing land prices, cumbersome local regulations, and a construction labor shortage that make building more difficult and expensive.
Still, building was more prevalent in some parts of the country than others. For example, home construction starts were up 7% in the West, where the population is growing, and 5% in the South, where land is more plentiful and cheap. But they fell just under 1% in the expensive Northeast, where there’s not as much land available to build on, and dropped 4% in the Midwest.
“Some of that is simply a reflection where people are moving,” says Hale.
4. Homes are getting bigger and less affordable
Most first-time buyers don’t want—and can’t afford—a megamansion. They’re seeking smaller, more affordable single-family houses. But builders aren’t putting them up.
Just 22% of single-family homes clocked in at under 1,800 square feet, according to the report. That’s compared with 32% from 1999 through 2011.
That’s because it’s simply more profitable to put up bigger, more luxurious abodes and sell them for higher prices.
“It’s difficult for builders to build modest-sized, more affordable homes,” says McCue. But “there’s plenty of demand out there for these [homes].”
5. Home sales are slipping
The lack of homes, the rising prices, and the crazy competition may be why the number of home sales is falling. After years of a white-hot, frenzied real estate market, 5.3 million existing (i.e., previously lived-in) residences were sold in 2018. That’s compared with 5.5 million in 2017.
“Home sales declined mainly at the end of 2018, when mortgage interest rates increased,” says McCue. Even the slightest interest rate increase can add quite a bit to a monthly mortgage payment.
But there are now more homes available for sale, even though they tend to be on the more expensive side. The number of homes for sale priced at under $200,000 has dropped, while more properties going for $750,000 or more are coming onto the market, says Hale.
“The biggest increase in inventory is in expensive homes for sale, where demand is the weakest,” she says.
6. Home price growth is also slowing
Buyers shouldn’t get too excited. Home prices aren’t coming down—they’re just not increasing at such a fast pace. Home price appreciation went from 6.5% at the beginning of 2018 to just 4.6% at the end of the year, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller National Home Price Index.
The median home list price is $310,000, according to realtor.com.
“Home prices have gotten so high in so many areas that it was just unsustainable to keep rising at the rates that they had,” says McCue. “Home prices have far outpaced rises in income over the last five years.”

The Pool Scene - Greg Wilson, Terry Gulliver - Atlantic 9-Ball Tour
New Post on http://thepoolscene.com/?p=21451
Atlantic 9 Ball Tour Season 2 Event # 4 News!
The fourth stop of the Atlantic 9 Ball Tour Season 2 is now complete! This time 94 of the Atlantic Provinces best 9 ball players competed from 16-18 Dec 16.
Each of these events has $1,600 in added money. Also 1st place in each event is guaranteed $1000. The Grand Finale event will have a minimum of $15,000 in added money and is scheduled for 19-22 May 2017. You must have played in 4 events in order to qualify for the Grand Finale!
The format is fantastic as far as I’m concerned. It is a double knockout event with a race to 9 on both sides. The finals will be one race to 13. Magic racks are mandatory and there is also a soft break rule. This rule is 2 balls must either be pocketed, go past the headstrong or a combination of these two.
Entry fees are staggered at $110 for an “A” player, $90 for a “B” player, $70 for a “C” player and everyone must pay a one-time $10 membership fee. The membership also entitles the player for a 10% discount on a billiard shop purchase! The different player classes are determined by the tournament director.
There is also a ladies event, $200 added with a max field of 32 players, the entry fee is $60 and everyone must pay a one-time $10 membership fee.
Each of the events will begin on Friday night at 7 pm and finish on Sunday and the number of players has just been capped at a maximum of 128 players. This is now possible with the addition inside the pool room and the fact that there are now 16 tables.
Mr. TJ Martin has also decided to provide further incentives for participation in the following unique ways:
He has chosen to pay the top 2 x “B” players, the top 2 x “C” players and the top 2 x Senior players (over 60) a $100 bonus each at all of the events.
He has chosen to pay the top points leaders after the 8 events. The top “A”, “B”, “C” and female player will all receive a $1000 bonus. There will also be $500 bonus for the top senior player. Players must participate in 6 of 8 events in order to be eligible for these bonuses. As another incentive, female players are eligible for both the “C” player and top female bonuses!
A big thank you to Paul Benoit of Ultimate Roofing Systems for adding $4000 for these bonuses!
Ultimate Roofing Systems
            1 (902) 209-3721
For all tournaments there will be a second chance tournament held on Sunday with $200 in added money (minimum of 8 players). “A” players will not be eligible for the second chance event. Entry fees are $25 for a “B” player and $20 for a “C” player. The format is single knock out race to 9 with the same rules as the main event.
For all tournaments there will be a Calcutta paying 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
For all tournaments there will be a “Last Man Standing” Event and here is how it works:
A person has 5 options to participate in the “Last Man Standing” Event. He or she can pay $20, $40, $60, $80 or $100 to enter.
If you decide to pay $60 for example and lose your first match $30 of this money goes to the final pot for the “Last Man Standing”. If you win this first match you just continue on.
Once you meet up with another player who has entered, the winner of this match will get up to 1/2 of their money back as soon as that match is over. Here are a few scenarios:
A $20 player beats a $20, $40, $60, $80 or $100 player they get $10.
A $40 player beats a $40, $60, $80 or $100 player they get $20.
A $60 player beats a $60, $80 or $100 player they get $30.
An $80 player beats an $80 or $100 player they get $40.
A $100 player beats another $100 player they get $50.
If a higher paid player beats a lower paid player they get 1/2 of that player’s money. As an example a $100 player beats a $20 player they get $10 and so on.
Once the “Last Man Standing” has been determined the money remaining in the pot is given out according to the player’s entry. For example, if a $100 player is the “Last Man Standing” he or she gets all of the money left in the pot because their percentage is 100 %. If a $20 player is the “Last Man Standing” they get 20% of the pot and if the next person is a $100 player or an $80 player they get the rest. Another example would be if a $60 player is the “Last Man Standing” they would get 60% of the pot and if the next person was a $20 player they would get 20% and the other 20% would go to the next player in line.
The highest finishing and highest paying B and C players will receive their money back.
This is a fabulous format to generate excitement, interest and a little extra incentive to win!
Here are all of the exciting results of the Atlantic 9 Ball Tour Season 2 Event # 4 held on 16-18 Dec 2016!

2 0 1 6 👋
Go, Hustle, Be.
Tumblr media
Personally, I’ve had a breakthrough of a year. I feel more confident, more financially stable, and just damn proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish.
Landing the Adobe Creative Residency back in April has propelled my independent design career in wonderful ways. It’s given me a massive platform to promote my work, share my process, and educate others along the way.
99U wrote a feature on Projecting West. Creative Review and then FastCo Design covered my work from the London Design Festival. Most affirming of all— one of my favorite publications, The Great Discontent, did a fantastic long-form interview on me.
Tumblr media
I’ve met an incredible amount of new people, produced an impressive amount of work, but by the end of 2016 I had one big problem. One that’s hard to admit.
I’m completely overwhelmed.
I made a bunch of work in quick succession and it’s all piled up. Finding time to document work is a common struggle if you have another immediate project to jump to next. I push myself hard, but in the pressure put on myself to make the most of this residency, I’m drowning by being overly ambitious.
Hell— even finishing this recap post has a been a crazy-daunting task. I haven’t even posted on my blog since I got the residency in April. That needs to change. I miss writing about bits of process & behind the scenes of projects.
Typically when I get stressed, I let myself go on a tangent and work on whatever I really want to work on. That usually means I start another new idea, but so long as I’m happy & being productive, it works. Eventually I’ll snap out of it, and stay up all night churning out actual work to get out of a creative rut. This time, I completely shut down instead.
So, I spent the holidays reflecting, took some good time with friends and family, and disconnected— slowed down to better move forward.
I’ve succeeded in many ways this year, grown personally more than any other year in my life, yet I can’t help but be self-critical and focus on the ways I failed.
Here’s what I did this year.

Between Them — Portland Winter Light Festival
Bringing the bridges of Portland to life, imagining what inside jokes the pillars must have about these interesting Portland-folk. Given a spare projector, I showed the Future is Inevitable doorways on two neighboring pillars.
Tumblr media
ZX + Future is Inevitable at AFRU Gallery
Same weekend as the PWLF, I showed these two pieces in a group show called ByteMe 5.0.

Epiccurence — The Montues
Invited by Dann Petty to augment the space, ended up creating an impromptu projection with live visuals. I met so many amazing creative humans.
Tumblr media
Portland Monthly
I did a couple projection mapping installations at various events for Portland Monthly. One of them was ruined by an amazing sunset.
Tumblr media
Applied for Adobe Creative Residency
My good friend Mike Ackerman told me about some creative residency thing but the deadline was only 2 days away. I stayed up all night and submitted my Light Capsules concept for it. Glad I pulled that all-nighter.

Light Capsules — Adobe Creative Residency
For my residency I proposed a project I had in mind since Day 6 of Projecting West, projection mapping ghost signage around the world, bringing the previous layers of history back to life.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 001 — Burlington, VT
To kick off my residency project, I thought it was only right to start on the building where my design career truly began.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 002 — Joseph, OR
During a camping trip, I brought my generator and projectors, and found this little Shell sign and brought it to life at sunset.

Light Capsule 004 — Astoria, OR
The first palimpsest of my residency project, the whole process from research to projection, was shared on Adobe’s Snapchat. I also wrote a big process post published for Adobe Create Magazine.
Tumblr media
99U Article — Projecting West
After being interviewed by Matt McCue, he wrote a long piece on 99U about the story and origins behind our road trip kickstarter adventure, Projecting West.

Light Capsule 005 — Cincinnati, OH
Visited the incredible American Sign Museum, worked with Ronny Salerno, and revived the last remaining wall by sign painter Chuck Keiger.
Tumblr media
PBR Unicorn Mask
Totally forgot to share this one. I worked with Jen Fuller Studios to design & produce a kit to make your own unicorn head out of a PBR box. They shipped the guide for Halloween 2016. You can get your own template for free on PBR’s site. Oh, and here’s the video I shot/edited as a making-of.
august
vimeo
NikeLab x RT
As soon as I began the residency, I was separately approached by NikeLab for an animation/installation project. Adobe completely encouraged me to pursue it, taking time to focus on what resulted in an animated Ricardo Tischi pattern that was shown globally.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 006 — Portland, ME
Of course I had to put my hometown on the map. This one was quite a challenge to figure out, with a few mysteries that remain... Read more about it in my latest article on Adobe Create Magazine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Light Capsule 007 —Portland, ME
For a “ghost sign,” this one wasn’t too worn, but I couldn’t resist using it to confuse people in the Portland out west.

Tumblr media
XOXOFEST 2016
Collaborative light installation with my studiomate Ben Purdy. To commemorate the 5th year and impending hiatus of the festival, we blended glitched recap & speaker videos of past with a secret live feed from the bar. This was our first time actually working together on a project. (We’ve actually been paid to not work together before, but that’s another story.)
Tumblr media
London Design Festival
Whoa. Huge trip to London to bring a series of Light Capsules across the pond. Collaborated with Sam Roberts of Ghostsigns. I was also honored to kick off the festival by speaking at the V&A Museum and share my story & process.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 008 — Take Courage
I couldn’t not do this sign for Courage Beer. The message actually comes from war time era, and ‘take’ is used like ‘take your medicine.’ So many meanings and history in this simple two-word phrase. So good in fact, we did this sign twice, the Saturday to start the festival, and the following Saturday to end it.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 009 — Barlow & Roberts
Up close & personal, this wooden sign tucked under a bridge and squeezed between two structures was a great way to demonstrate the projection mapping technique and process.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 010 — Cakebread Robey
Another palimpsest, this one up in Stoke Newington, it was interesting to analyze the two layers and see what changed as the business changed and grew.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule Worldwide Party — Distillery Bar
Halfway through the London Design Festival, we took over a blank wall and brought to it a digital collection of signs from all over the world.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 011 — Wire Works
The left part of this sign was on the corner of a building that collapsed during the war. When it was rebuilt, they filled in the bricks, but didn't repaint.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 012 — Westminster Gillette
As the finale of the London Design Festival series, we brought to life this triple palimpsest that took some special figuring out using historical photographs.
october
Tumblr media Tumblr media
White Noise Now presents — SALT
When we announced this back in January, I had no idea the second half of my year would get so insane. Fortunately, Adobe was super supportive of the WNN project, funded it, and I roped it into my residency. It was named Best Art Installations of 2016 by Seven Days. We’re very close to sharing the video of this performance installation, and I can’t wait to grow this collaborative further.
Tumblr media
Light Capsule 013 — Detroit, MI
Pushing the Light Capsules project further, I collaborated with Miss Van to augment her mural alongside an existing ghost sign. This was also recorded in 360º on a Gear 360.
november
Tumblr media
Adobe MAX Speaker
Third talk of the year, and the biggest of my life. I broke down a 60 min talk into a 10 min backstory, 20 min on Projecting West, and 20 min on Light Capsules. It went super well.
Tumblr media
Adobe MAX BASH — Entrance
I created a light installation at the entrance to the MAX BASH, projection mapping on a sculpture of 42 surfboards. Naturally, I titled this MAX BORTS.
december
Tumblr media
New work studio
Prior to the closing of the XOXO Outpost, my studiomate Ben Purdy noticed a new studio on craigslist… with a ghost sign in it. We toured a few other places, but the Goldsmith Blocks are pretty great and now I work up close with Big Philip.
Tumblr media
New loft apartment
In another crazy timing circumstance, my roommate was moving out and I noticed a dream apartment opened up downtown: a big gorgeous studio loft in a converted historical industrial building. Pulled the trigger on it. Moved everything in a day. First time living alone, too, but it feels just right.
Tumblr media
Monster Project SF
My mentor at Adobe, Stefano Corazza, organized an incredible gallery show for The Monster Project, hosted in the freshly renovated Adobe SF Headquarters. I flew down to create something fun and impulsive for it. With only a day to put something together, I brought on my pal Mike Ackerman and we ended up getting a bunch of paper lanterns and turned a festive tree into a creepy monster.
Tumblr media
1 Hotels
Another side venture started in 2015 that is gaining some solid momentum, I’m working with 1 Hotel to realize an experimental new type of immersion room in their South Beach location. Details to come!
Tumblr media
This recap post.
Last year I was in the same situation, everything piles up, holidays hit, and I bury myself in unrealistic expectations for a massive end of year post. (You know, something epic like what Mailchimp does.) This year, I reached a limit, and quietly imploded.
Tumblr media
2 0 1 6 mantra. Go, Hustle, Be.
GO. — I certainly went. Even hit my goal to go international, too. London, Vancouver, Tijuana, plus lots around the states.
HUSTLE. — Looking at the above, I definitely got a lot done this year. Biggest accomplishment by far was landing the residency of my dreams.
BE. — I’m proud of the quality time I’ve had with many of the new people in my life, but I still need to dedicate more time to reflection and sharing my process.
2 0 1 7 mantra. Let’s do this. (smarter, better, together)
Everything is lining up for me to propel myself forward with the momentum gained through this residency with Adobe. I want to do some incredible things next… but I can’t possibly do this alone. Nor do I want to.
Especially in the wake of this volatile election, I want to band together with my creative peers to build projects that bring people together and create ripples of positive impact.
This year I’m going to take serious steps to work smarter, optimize my workflow, and take more time for myself. I’ve stopped flying around like an idiot for a bit, and started an actual routine. I wake up at a certain time, make breakfast, coffee, read a chapter of a book, then walk to the studio.
And now I’ve completed this post, and can somewhat satisfyingly check it off my list, and move forward.
Let’s do this, 2017. —Craig
A FEW THINGS COMING UP 2017:
Jan 20 — Speaking at Adobe Creative Jam Portland, PSU Feb 1-4 — Light Capsules series at Portland Winter Light Festival Feb/Mar — Light Capsules road trip to SXSW from LA to Austin Mar 30 — Immersive visuals for Beowulf at Princeton University.

Understanding The Chain
In many ways, The Chain is the story of Fleetwood Mac. Located right in the middle of Rumours, widely viewed as one of the best albums of all time, The Chain breaks from the soft rock sound of the rest of the album, stripping back the layers of false happiness and revealing a darker, harder, and more painful side of the band. Written in parts by all five band members, it lays bare the turmoil going on between them, and shows just how hard they’re working to keep things together just a little bit longer.

The New Meaning Of "Buddy".
WREXHAM manager Gary Mills really feels that Wales' Euro 2016 success is among the variables making life perilous for Welsh club managers. Make an active choice to do so if you value your friendships and also want to create them. Relationships don't just occur; they need nurturing and interest, much like other relationship. A good manager acknowledges that it is the employees that raise the profits of a firm, and offering a raising will boost spirits and could inspire the workers to work harder, which will benefit the company in the long run. Boss Monster is a dungeon-building card game that challenges gamers to become the ultimate bad guys: computer game managers. With this peer stress, behavioral issues can emerge, particularly if your teenager drops in with a much less preferable core of friends. The actor Vince Leigh, 44, boyfriend of Frostrup's buddy broadcaster Dime Smith, 55, properly consented to go along with the 51-year-old Mrs McCue on a French canal boat journey. It in some way spilled out in a short conversation at church that she had gone out with some friends for dinner during the weekend break. Boss is a devilishly keen making of the story of Daley's Chicago, delivered in a voice that is pitch-perfect: nostalgia removed of wistfulness, unrelenting muckraking lacking unctuosity, and also above all, a bird's eye sight of the Chicago society that resides in Royko's marrow. Although every family members is various, there are specific qualities that healthy and balanced households high quality of the connection is more important than family members setup. Notably, Reis and Electric shaver guess that goals, objectives, requirements, as well as anxieties of both relationship partners add to and also arise from responsiveness in the partnership. The important point that triggers partnership troubles is emotional self-abandonment, which usually takes place in four means: ignoring your feelings by staying in your head rather than being present in your body, judging yourself, resorting to various addictions to avoid your feelings, and also making others in charge of your sensations. The truth is that imposing the legal option suggests the supplier/customer connection is stressed or has actually broken down so has to be the last - instead of initial - hotel. What newbie non-monogamy recommendations must do instead of unilaterally stating all heirarchies and guidelines are bad is instead increase on those regulations which are likely to explode in people's faces. The Best Pal Deal was a charming story about a set of buddies that had actually always been there for one another that come up with a plan to benefit them both with a side of attraction. Psychological of the robotic, you are staff member number 72 with a manufacturing yield of 84 percent and also experience degree 91. This manager chooses based upon the numbers, and when he's required to reach a verdict without the proper information, he self-destructs. This is dependent on just how your connection was before the separation, and also exactly how you both handle the split. Compassionate goals as well as perceptions of flatmates' responsiveness, though correlated, are additionally empirically unique. http://croyezsante-blog.info/exo-male-pour-aider-les-hommes-pendant-la-menopause-masculine/ wanted his entire globe to stay private-- he never finished any one of his stories and shed most of his manuscripts; the remainder he entrusted to his closest friend and also literary administrator, Max Brod, whom he advised to burn the remaining diaries, manuscripts, letters, and also sketches. The two, although ostensibly independent of each other, are practically linked by the truth that the individual medical professional practices within the monopolistic framework that characterizes the connection between the occupation (of which the physician is a participant) as well as culture overall. The http://croyezsante-blog.info is, at heart, a buddies Robin Bielman is one of my auto-buy authors, and I'm a big follower of her Kisses in the Sand series, yet due to an individual prejudice, I had not been prepared to love The most effective Friend Bargain even more than the very first two publications in this series. Irregular sex, absence of sex-related gratification or compatibility, lack of sexual ability or passion, or passion in somebody else are bad indications that your partnership is on track. While I appreciate a friends to enthusiasts love, The Best Buddy Deal was not one that worked for me. A selfish heroine, a pushover hero and insufficient love left me feeling unimaginative. The four specialists who generated the concerns are the designers of OK Cupid, an extremely preferred global dating site. Through companions' perceptions as well as reciprocation of stars' responsiveness, actors' responsiveness affects both stars' and also companions' partnership experiences. Do not always come front in all rather show your best at the office as your manager can restrict your career movement. Hardcore Setting - you have one hit point and that's it. This is as a sub variation of the Limitless employer or any of the various other gameplay modes. She determines to inspect it out and soon has her new/old friend in her life once more through computer innovation. I'm humbled by this experience and though I have actually just shed him once more, I am not crying any longer, since I recognize why he runs, as well as I know why this needs to be. Ill always send my love to him, however I have my very own goals to achieve as well and my life will certainly remain to be gorgeous as well as musical as well as deliberate with him in my heart. Program your peers that while you are a group gamer, you comprehend your responsibilities as their manager. We suggest that since estimate is an intrapersonal procedures and the exchange of responsiveness between connection companions is a social process, both could take place simultaneously.
