but me and devin are watching doctor who(them for the first time, but were starting to get to where I stopped) and we got through the van gogh episode today and I cried 😭(I've seen it before but it's still a lot)
we also got to where amy mentioned she might be pregnant in the astronaut episode and devin asked "is the baby river?" and I just had to keep a straight face until they moved on which was so hard.
then we got the episode where they found out river is melody and the second they said melodys name devin went "melody like song? pond like river?"

Matt Smiths doctor is honestly the most frightening to me. He’s the doctor whose chosen to forget all he’s done. He’s the doctor whose tried to just have fun and go along with the Ponds. Like at the end of the Christmas special “The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe” when he reconnects with the Ponds and tells them he’s not dead and they’ve known and been setting him a place at the table at Christmas and he just cries a single tear. Like he’s lost touch with so much. I always compare him to a 12 year old. He moves through ignoring consequences. Ten anguished in his actions and it made him in my opinion a better doctor. I think the final season of Matt Smith encapsulates him “maturing”. I think capaldi was an amazing choice because the doctor is older and needs to be wiser now more than ever. He doesn’t need to suffer for the actions he chose when destroying his own people in the time war but he doesn’t get to just pretend it never happened. It did. Eleven is just so petulant and childish. Like I think he goes so sideways with all the villains in his final season because he’s fighting himself. He’s been denying what he’s done so long he can’t help but see himself in all these terrible people and he hates it. He wants to start over. And he essentially does. He’s faked his death and the whole of the greater universe thinks he’s dead or in the daleks case doesn’t remember him. But he can’t run from himself staring him in the face through all the other bad guys he’s come up against. Even the Minotaur alien in the episode “The God Complex” with his dying breath calls the doctor for what he is. I’m at the end of the Matt Smith era and I’m just over here like thank goodness. I’m also not a fan of the Ponds. Amy and Rory are just such accessories. Like as far as companions it’s like they tried to just do Rose and silly Mickey all over again. Something just bothers me about Amy being a little girl and so obsessed and taken with the Doctor. To the point she nearly cancels her wedding. It’s really no fault of hers it’s the writing. Like Moffat went off with the whole “a woman is only good if she’s chasing a man” thing and it didn’t shape a good opinion of her. Don’t get me started on Rory. That poor guy was slapped so hard with cliche goofy side character and it just did no good for plot advancement
Idk fam Ive been drinking and binging Doctor Who lol

And I want Dr who fic recs with 10!! I have been having a hard time finding ones that are decent and where the author does a good job with rose. Do you have a list?
oh gosh uh. i can definitely put one together. i have to be a little garbage gremlin and admit that the majority of fics ive been reading recently have been azcrow, with the occasional zimbits thrown in for good measure because sometimes you want your stupid yearning to be canon. (also some parksborn or spideytorch bc i. peter parker?) while writing this up i realized how many fucking aus there are of family of blood, and how long people liked to write them. i tried to do a variation of length, but all of these fics are completed, bc im not a daft person who enjoys reading in progress fics. finished or nothing, im impatient. i also realized how horny people are for tenrose, which can be exhausting when all u wanna read is fluffy soulmate aus bc ur lonely. i think only two fics have a nsfw part, and i noted it in their descriptions, so this rec list is minor friendly ! sorry for so many au’s, i enjoy them too much.
under my skin by hiddentreasures
a very short, really cute soulmate one shot with human!ten. im a sucker for soulmate aus, and this one was just. really cute. also had donna as tens cousin which i could get behind.
connect-the-dots by fingersfallingupwards
i know you said 10/rose fics but this one. is too much of a classic to not list. it has 10/rose. thats the majority of it tbh. but this one is really good. like above, im a giant fucking sucker for soulmate aus. that shits my bread and butter babey. give me a million of them and id never get bored. and i do love bad wolf rose, and i do love me some donna noble. this one gets pretty angsty in the middle, but its doctor who angsty so its just him pining over rose for a hundred-odd years like a knob.
a shop girl with a broken fob watch by licieoic
an au of the family of blood where its rose instead of martha bc she never got stuck in the parallel universe, and instead of racist old fart teacher john smith, hes alec hardy from broadchurch, because why the fuck not. its really cute, and i enjoyed it probably too much for someone whos never seen a second of broadchurch. there are two nsfw moments, which startled me bc there are Zero tags for it, so watch out. but its very cute, very fun, and alec is a grumpy fart.
sad, beautiful, tragic (aka me, you, and us). by michellejjones
this one is more a meta on 10/rose than it is actually a fic about them but it was so. sadly beautiful i cant NOT rec it. like. heart wrenching sad yearning my dudes. the doctors love for rose really can be felt across all of his generations.
a thousand languages by mad_lori
this is from 2011, so its before we even like. really knew matt smith as eleven. but its cute !! its also super angsty, but its not that long so it doesnt hurt that much. a fun kinda character analysis on who rose would be if she was consistent through all his regenerations past 9. written really beautifully. surprisingly, rose is more in character than ten is, lmao. hes a bit too grumpy for ten, but too happy for nine. a weirdo combo of the two, but its still fun.
friends with (cuddling) benefits by lostinfic
humannn au !!!!!!! babee !! rose and ten share a flat and the doctor is his radio dj persona. its very soft. its all dumb mutual pining and stupid jokes that actual ten and rose have but like. more human. yknow? feels a bit more realistic. they still have their grand adventures, but less about saving people and more getting trapped in monkey enclosures.
a way with words by hiddentreasures
hi my name is atlas neilgaimananti and i have a thing for both human aus AND soulmate aus, APPARENTLY ! this one is short and sweet and straight to the point. but i sure do love ten being a science fiction author.. its such a dorky thing for him to do it make sense. and also very much chaotic idiot representation here.
never ever by itooktheonelesstraveled
doomsday fix? dont mind if i do ! this one a huge comedy, tbh. a lot of switching up companions from different points, just to make sure that rose doesnt fall into the parallel world and donna doesnt marry lance. theres a nsfw scene between eleven and rose, but its more funny than anything else.
no rose without a thorn by morningsound15
this one is actually tentoo/rose, but its.. really cute. apparently im a sucker for rose being in love with all of the doctors regenerations, bc ive kept on reading them. tentoo regenerates whenever the doctor does in his world, but also like, keeps aging with rose. kinda complicated, but it does bring up a lot of questions abt their relationship, and also tentoo and how they view the doctor. the same but separate. its. a good fic, and a good character study on tentoo.
its complicated series by tardisistheonlywaytotravel
atlas back with another au? ur right weary traveler, and buckle up, cause this ones hilarious. thats all im saying about it. it has a happy ending where rose snogs nine in front of ten to spite him, and the two of them are married, to everyone elses annoyance, bc theyre in love and gross. how is it an au? youll see.
blinded by the light by hiddentreasures
wow atlas another fic by hiddentreasures? ANOTHER human soulmate au? yes leave me alone this is my own rec list, i can do what i want. and i love when writers make ten and donna cousins. its so funny to me. a fucking king, international superstar james noble.
ive been working on this rec list for like TWO DAYS now and its 3am and i just wnana go to bed, so this is it ! i think its a decent list --- sorry the majority of them are one shots i have teh attention span of a toddler. if you want more recs, let me know !! if u give me more specifics, like aus or doomsday fixes and stuff, i could probably give u a much neater list lmao.

Quick Bits:
A Walk Through Hell #10 somehow gets even more disturbing as we’re shown some of McGregor’s past as he was abused and set up as a suicide. The horror that Garth Ennis, Goran Sudžuka, Ive Svorcina, and Rob Steen keep exploring in this series keeps getting more personal and seemingly has no limit to its depth.

Amazing Spider-Man #22 concludes (mostly) the “Hunted” arc as Kraven continues to try to convince Spider-Man that he’s a killer and to finally put Kraven out of his misery. It’s incredibly messed up logic, but Nick Spencer, Humberto Ramos, Victor Olazaba, Edgar Delgado, Erick Arciniega, and Joe Caramagna make it interesting. You could consider this end anti-climactic, especially after how long this has been, but I get the feeling we’ll be dealing with the ramifications for a while to come.

Amber Blake #3 takes an interesting turn as an undercover operation into a modelling agency reveals that Amber’s childhood friend Amanda is still alive. The level of intrigue and twists in this story just keeps escalating, matching the density of the layouts and art from Butch Guice, Mike Perkins, and Dan Brown.

Angel #1 is incredible. Possibly even better than the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series and that has set a ridiculously high bar. Bryan Edward Hill, Gleb Melnikov, Gabriel Cassata, and Ed Dukeshire embrace the darker, moodier feel of Angel consistent with the different atmosphere that was present in the television series, while diving deep into building up his dark past and conflicted future. There’s a lot that is new to this interpretation, which just makes it more intriguing. And the art from Melnikov and Cassata is gorgeous.

Ascender #2 advances the vamps’ plan to eradicate the remaining technology in the universe, as Andy is reunited with Bandit, and the vamps come to threaten him and his family. This remains an interesting new take on the Descender world from Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen, and Steve Wands as we see more of what’s happened since the end of that series.

Batman: Last Knight on Earth #1 is an interesting debut from Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO Plascencia, and Tom Napolitano. On its surface, it’s an “Old Man Bruce” story, as a previously comatose Bruce awakens in a dark and strange future. But this existence is weird and unreliable. Especially as Bruce awakens in a fiction at first, being told that he’s in Arkham and that all of his villains and time as Batman were fever dreams cooked up by a fractured mind. This may well be the best art ever from Capullo, Glapion, and Plascencia.

Black Science #40 shows that the story still has some surprises in store as it rockets towards the end. Also some ridiculous jokes. Matteo Scalera and Moreno Dinisio continue to inventive as hell with the art.

Coda #12 is the explosive, brilliant conclusion to what has been on the best series of this year and last. Si Spurrier, Matías Bergara, Michael Doig, and Jim Campbell have delivered some stunning flights of imagination, tapping into some highly inventive nihilistic fantasy, presenting the final battle battle this issue, and, man, does it stick the landing. Phenomenal storytelling all around.

Daredevil #6 begins “No Devils, Only God” in a New York City without Daredevil. Lalit Kumar Sharma, Jay Leisten, and Java Tartaglia come on for art duties for this arc and it’s an interesting shift. Sharma’s style reminds me a bit of Klaus Janson’s, but without the heavy inks and shadows.

Detective Comics Annual #2 heads into Year Two territory as we get a new Reaper from Peter J. Tomasi, Travis Moore, Max Raynor, Tamra Bonvillain, Nick Filardi, and Rob Leigh. This is a nice use of the annual format, giving us a satisfying single issue story setting up a possible future arc.

The Forgotten Queen #4 brings an end to this excellent series exploring the history of Vexana, War-Monger, from Tini Howard, Amilcar Pinna, Ulises Arreola, and Jeff Powell. Very interesting depth added to the character and interesting hints as to what more might be coming, hopefully.

Hellboy vs. Lobster Johnson: Ring of Death elaborates further on Hellboy’s time in Mexico making wrestling movies in a pair of tales from Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson, Mike Norton, Paul Grist, Dave Stewart, Bill Crabtree, and Clem Robins. Seeing a presentation of the movie Hellboy starred in is a real treat.

Immortal Hulk #18 leans hard into the body horror aspect of the series, debuting both Betty’s full form as this new Harpy and in the Abomination. Joe Bennett, Ruy José, and Paul Mounts just nail this perfectly.

Killer Groove #1 is a great first issue from Ollie Masters, Eoin Marron, Jordie Bellaire, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. It’s a taut crime drama mixing a never-was musician with the potential of life as a hitman, as he lucks into a kill during a chance encounter. Great art from Marron and Bellaire.

The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #3 advances the alien plot, sending Kamala and her parents off to Saffa to supposedly fulfill the role of their Destined One, saving the planet again. Saladin Ahmed, Minkyu Jung, Juan Vlasco, Ian Herring, and Joe Caramagna are doing some interesting world-building here, and ensuring that nothing is quite what it seems.

Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt #5 is the beautiful conclusion to what has been a brilliant series from Kieron Gillen, Caspar Wijngaard, Mary Safro, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. It’s been a sequel, satire, criticism, and repudiation of Watchmen, but it’s also been an interesting mediation on “being better” while coming to terms with the nature of reality and learning to deal with the human element.

Queen of Bad Dreams #2 gets more into the grit of IJ Wei’s investigation into the escaped figment, delivering some great police procedural stuff. The artwork from Jordi Pérez and Dearbhla Kelly is wonderful. Reminding me a lot of some of the work from John Watkiss, particularly during a very impressive action sequence.

She Said Destroy #1 is an intriguing science fantasy debut from Joe Corallo, Liana Kangas, Rebecca Nalty, and Melanie Ujimori. It taps into Celtic mythology, presenting a war between Brigid and the Morrigan, but also appears to be telling a coming of age story with some members of the Morrigan’s flock as they try to combat Brigid’s oppression.

Star Wars #108 is essentially another one-shot in the 80th anniversary of Marvel celebration, with Matthew Rosenberg and a murderers’ row of new and old Star Wars artists delivering a tale set in the old Marvel continuity. While you’ll get more out of it if you’re familiar with the original series, with familiar faces like Valance Hunter, Domina Tagge, and Jaxxon, but it still works well on its own without having any foreknowledge of previous events.

Stranger Things: Six #1 begins another prequel mini-series, this time introducing us to “Six” and looking into the experiments going on at the Hawkins Labs, from Jody Houser, Edgar Salazar, Keith Champagne, Marissa Louise, and Nate Piekos. I quite liked the first one that served as a view into the terror that Will went through during season one, but this one looks like it’ll be breaking some new ground. Very interested to see more of what happened earlier.

Superman: Leviathan Rising Special #1 is a tease for Event Leviathan, the next turn in the Superman series, the forthcoming Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen minis, and the upcoming Supergirl arc once she returns to Earth, but it also manages to tell a fairly entertaining story in its own right as Talia al Ghul kidnaps Clark Kent.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #94 continues “City at War” as everything gets nastier and dirtier, and we still haven’t had a full-on incendiary spark yet to ignite even larger warfare. Dave Wachter and Ronda Pattison deliver some incredible artwork. Splinter is very chilling in this one.

Transformers #6 takes a break from the ongoing narrative and gives us a look into the past friendship between Megatron and Orion Pax, from Brian Ruckley, Beth McGuire-Smith, and Tom B. Long. Wolverine: The Long Night #5 concludes this adaptation of the podcast of the same name from Benjamin Percy, Marcio Takara, Matt Milla, and Joe Caramagna. Quick Bits:
Action Comics #1011 is the last stop before Event Leviathan starts in earnest and it raises more questions as to what’s going on. Brian Michael Bendis, Steve Epting, Brad Anderson, and Josh Reed have done a great job elevating tension through this lead-up and moving the pieces around the board.

Roses are Red, Violets are Adored (Viadore/Katlaska/Group Fic)
Chapter 178
Pearl’s POV
“WHAT? BUT THAT’S BULLSHIT!” I blurted out to the cops, balling my hands into fists and standing up from the chair so quickly that it made a loud scraping noise.
Fame was crumpled in on herself, sobbing while she held her arms around her chest. After recounting every ugly word and blow from the two assholes that put us in this predicament, all the cops could say was we should have filed it in Idaho where it had happened.
Officer Elise Jacks had looked miserable as she told us the creeps would only get a slap on the wrist for assault rather than a more serious sentence for a hate crime if they WERE caught and convicted. Gay people aren’t a protected class in Idaho like we are in Washington State. (AN this is actually disgustingly true, same with Trans people, gender in general is not a protected class per Idaho Statute 18-7902 Updated July 1st, 2017)
“Watch your language young man!” Sergeant Smith barked and puffed up immediately. His face went even redder and a vein in his forehead bulged.
I opened my mouth to respond but Fame choked out, “Pearl no. Don’t!” She reached out a hand and wrapped it around my wrist.
“Sorry.” I mumbled, knowing it would just make things worse if this asshole of a cop decided to flex his authority and arrest me. He seemed like the type.
“Sergeant, can I speak to you for a minute?” Officer Jacks asked, pulling the stout man aside to have whispered conversation. The Sergeant tipped his hat and quickly left the room without another word.
“Sorry about him,” she looked embarrassed, “and I’m sorry that there aren’t National laws about hate crimes. I’m sorry that those men did that to you Mr Dam-Mikkelsen.”
“Thank you.”
“Ok we have your contact information and we’ll be in touch.” She turned to leave.
“Wait...please?”She paused in between the parted curtains and looked back at us. Fame continued, “I don’t think I want to bother pressing charges.”
“FAME! NO! You can’t do that!”
I yanked my arm out of her grip way too harshly and immediately regretted it when she doubled in on herself but she exploded before I could apologize.
“Why the HELL not?! It happened to ME! It’s MY body that’s hurt! They’re not going to FIND them and I’ll just be waiting for calls to be reminded of what happened and that we don’t matter.” Her voice took on a hysterical tone and the words she said next were rent from her soul as she screamed them before ending in a sob, “WE DON’T MATTER MATT!!” Fame covered her face and wailed, crying so hard she would stop breathing but then it changed to her hyperventilating and her eyes going wide with fear like they had on the bus before she’d fainted.
I pulled her into my chest gently and spoke in her ear. “Okay, Okay! Breathe Kurtis, calm down.” An alarm started to beep rapidly.
“I’ll go get someone, I’ll check in with you later before we file any paperwork!” Officer Jacks disappeared behind the swinging curtain.
It felt like the cubicle got incredibly small as 2 nurses and a Doctor rushed in, one of the nurses pulled me away from Fame as the other 2 worked on her. Slipping an oxygen mask over Fame’s face and cranking a knob on the wall, one injecting meds into Fame’s IV, all speaking medical gibberish that went completely over my head. I felt like my brain was going to explode with the frustration and worry I was feeling.
Fame’s eyes drooped from whatever meds they gave her yet she struggled to stay awake for a few minutes longer until she finally closed her eyes, one hand over her chest. One of the nurses and the Dr left without a second look back. The third went over to look at the monitors and fiddle with Fame’s IV in her arm, she was about to leave without telling me anything.
“Hey, hey, what just happened? I need some information please?”
“We gave him some more pain medication and an antianxiety medication since he seemed to be having a panic attack.”
“Ok, so do we know any results from the tests you did? Am I going to be able to take him home tonight?”
“Yes, you’ll have to ask the Dr about that.”
“Well, can you send him back in?” I said, frustration evident in my voice.
“Oh I’m sure he’s gone but I’ll tell him when I see him dear.” She said patronizingly, patting me on my shoulder before quickly exiting the room. I plunked down in the chair and pinched the bridge of my nose. Fame’s cell started ringing so I sped over and riffled through the pile of neatly folded clothes on a table in the corner. She didn’t even stir.
“Hello? Fame’s phone.” I greeted in a loud whisper.
“Hi, is this Pearl?” Came Patrick’s confused voice. “Where’s Kurtis?”
“He’s here, he’s just resting.”
“He’s still not feeling well? Oh my poor baby! He was telling me you were taking good care of him, thank you. Maybe he should get checked out by a Doctor?”
“He is, we are at the hospital just waiting back on texts. He’s all doped up on pain meds right now so he’s comfortable. They took some blood and did an MRI and an X-Ray so we should know something soon.” I reassured.
“Wait, what?” He asked, sounding perplexed, “I thought Kurtis had the flu or a migraine or something?”
“I thought you talked to him?”
“I texted with him, he was supposed to call me but I never heard back from him, I thought maybe he fell asleep again.” He grumbled and then sighed. “What’s going on Matt?”
“Uh well...um…” I sputtered.
“Matt, just tell me.” He commanded in a clipped voice.
“Ok, sorry. Kurtis was feeling a bit panicky in the little restaurant that we stopped at and then…” So what do I say next? Do I tell him what really happened or the cockamamie story Fame fabricated?
“Matt? You there? And then what?” Patrick insisted.
“Fame tripped and fell.” It wasn’t a total lie.
“Oh no!! Did he hit his head or something?” The concern and panic in his voice was heart wrenching.
“He didn’t hit his head, he scraped up his hands but it is his ribs that I’m worried about. I’m going to make an educated guess that at least a few of them are broken.”
“What should I do? Should I come there?”
“No, I would hold off until we know what kind of condition he is in. I think he wants to stay on the tour if he can and that actually makes sense because there would be someone around to help him all the time and he should only miss a few days of performing because they will suggest that he is active and moving around. If he’s alone, he might not be as active.” There was silence from the other end and I wondered if we’d been disconnected, “Patrick?”
“Uh yeah...um I’m here. I just really don’t know what to say or do.” Patrick’s voice was gruff with emotion.
“I know hun, Fame or I will let you know as soon as we know anything. I promise you that! Hopefully we get some news soon.”
“Yes please.” He sniffed, “can you tell Kurtis to call me when he wakes up? Whether you have news or not. I just need to hear his voice.”
“I will, I promise.”
“Thank you for looking after him Matt, I just can’t thank you enough. I’ll have my phone on me. Bye for now.”
“Bye Patrick, try not to worry. He’s in good hands.” I clicked the phone off and sat back down, pocketing Fame’s phone incase it rang again.
I pulled out my phone and sent Phi Phi a quick message that we still had no news. She wouldn’t get it for a bit since the show was going to start shortly.
I was so tired but I wanted to stay awake in case the Dr came in but my eyes kept drifting shut.
