I’m still thinking about the IBM sponsored MASH 80’s Office AU and I remembered the one ad I was bummed I had to cut from the comp cuz it’s not really office related, so here, for your viewing pleasure, is Alan Alda trying to sell you a computer for your classroom

still thinking about the 80’s office au, partially cuz the idea of the characters of MASH doing The Office but in the style of late 80’s/early 90’s sitcoms like Seinfeld or Fraiser has me frothing at the mouth, but also something I love about those commercials is that they came out 16 years after the show started and all the actors are either over, approaching, or in their fifties so the characters can really reach their full potential as the group of inexplicably horny divorcées they were always meant to be

watch aggretsuko and you'll get an idea of what corporate offices are like jk but fr just imagine useless meetings that could have been an email and hawkeye drinking five coffees before lunch and tedious work and bj yammers on abt his wife and kid and hawkeye flirts WITH everyone and is THIS close to being reported to HR (trapper too probably lol) by frank and margaret. radar would be an unpaid intern who does literally everything. henry doesn't get anything done and lets hawkeye get away with shirking his work onto others and leaving the building. somehow their department manages to make 90% of their quota anyway and gets rewards for it.
All of this is very good, much to consider

Y’all, I wanna write stuff about the MASH cast IBM ads SO BAD but I don’t know anything about corporate office environments so it usually just boils down to “shit man, I guess BJ and Hawk are gonna be fuckin on the copy machine again huh?”

I really can’t believe IBM said “hmm how can we sell our computers? Ah, I know! We’ll make commercials that take place in an Office!AU M*A*S*H fanfic!” AND THEN THEY DID

So I’ve been thinking about the IBM office au again (I’m obsessed what can I say 😛) and I was thinking about how they would refer to each other in that scenario, cuz obviously they’re not in the military so they wouldn’t have titles and they probably wouldn’t use their nicknames, so they’d probably just use their first names, and I realized that not only does MASH have two women named Margaret and two women named Louise, but that depending on what you think Father Mulcahy’s name is, there are either two men named Frank or two men named John

I will not rest until the rest of MASHblr is as insane about the 80’s office AU ads as I am
So I wanted to compile the ads so I could just post one video and not like a whole YouTube playlist, but I quickly found out that there are SO MANY MASH IBM ads! So I decided to leave out ones that weren’t office related and were more ‘Alan Alda puts on a bunch of different hats’ and ‘Jamie Farr repeatedly tries and fails to enter a building’ and I actually had to cut one ad of Alan and some kids in a classroom that I wanted to put in cuz I think it’s cute.
But anyway, I am always gnawing at the bars of my enclosure thinking of the universe these ads take place in. Like, who flooded the office? Did Trapper ever get to go to Hawaii? Where’s BJ? (JK he’s at a gay picnic)
I feel like there’s a rich vein here and us weirdos, sickos, and perverts need to buckle down and really dig into the potential for office shenanigans.
