i love how, from an outsider's perspective, the markiplier lore is like "oh man! look at this adventure with silly gaming youtuber" and in reality the lore is like do you remember who you are? are you sure? i can't tell how many times we've been here before, you and i, trapped in this void. what has he done to you?

Something about the Markiplier cinematic universe I think needs to be talked about is the fact that literally 80% of the reason it's so compelling is because it doesn't take itself seriously at all. It's just a story that's an absurdly chaotic mess, and I mean that positively.
Who Killed Markplier is a tragedy at its core, a very well done example of, even if you try to do all the right things, sometimes you still fail, and there's no way to fix what's already been said and done.
'DAMIEN' has hauntingly beautiful scenery, it's an outsiders perspective of an altercation between two unreliable narrators that gives little context to its premise, immersing us in our place as a bystander.
All that being said, it's juxtaposed by;
-The man cast ending up in space with zero explanation.
-Two men getting into a fistfight in a movie theater parking lot in borad daylight in a violently slapstick manner.
-William telling the group he once got sucked into jumanji and nobody even questioning it.
-The viewers very existence being used to play up a series of visual gags with absolutely no context, (Pocket Sand, for example.)
-Darks tendency to pull a 'draw me like one of your French girls' while speaking to us in fucking riddles
-The stunt dummy being kept in after the editing phase
-Literally 90% of the shit Actor does despite being a revenge fueled monster, he wears crocs everywhere like c'mon
-HeeHoo
Honestly I think it's great because it allows you to play with the worldbulding extensively as there's debatably no concrete facts one way or another. I'm writing at the moment and using it to my advantage and will probably post more about that soon.

i hate actor mark so much but he's so funny. he's divorced. he's on perole. he thinks he's the main character. he's the villain. he's a bitch. he failed so hard he had to kill all his friends. he planned all of this but nothing is going according to his plan. he's a loser and not cute or likeable about it. he has every personality disorder and is bad representation for all of them. i am going to beat him up and still smile everytime i see him.

trying to tell people about markiplier lore is so embarrassing do you know how hard it is to explain that darkiplier isn’t actually named darkiplier but also mark calls him darkiplier for the sake of convenience and the character who is darkiplier has never been called “darkiplier” in canon and

My interpretation of WKM (aka "Damien's Late Night Lore Ramblings")
Mark's plan with the aid of the Manor Spirit was to host this party with all of his friends (except for Celine, his wife who cheated on him with Will.) After the party started and while everyone was drunk, he would die in a way that nobody would remember the day after. Once he was dead, he would give up his body and have the Manor Spirit aid him in transferring his own soul into Will's body. After the case was investigated and everything hopefully resolved, Mark (as Will) would go on to possibly marry Celine and live the rest of Will's life with her. He thought that Celine would only like Will, and he was probably right. Mark himself didn't seem to be the best husband to her if she cheated on him. However, Mark did not account correctly for almost everything that followed his death. Many of his friends started fighting and his plan was slowly falling apart. Then, just as Mark thought it couldn't get any worse, Celine walked in. She must've known what had happened and what Mark's plan was and was ready to burn down everything. She told the DA where to go with Will: outside of the Manor, while she would confront Mark inside, with Damien there as well. The entire time, Damien seemed genuinely confused, and she needed to show him the truth behind Mark as well. With Damien's visits to the Manor before, he could also be helping Celine with the confrontation, lying low to oppose Mark's plan. They fought a strong battle inside the Manor, and Celine was doing well, but Mark had an escape plan. He had to live through someone. And the one body that was left… was Damien's. He forced him out of his own body, trapped Celine's physical body in the Manor, and left, leaving the rest of the group confused and traumatized. Now that Mark was gone, two souls were stuck in the Manor, with their bodies gone or trapped. Eventually, everyone was either dead or left, except for Will and the DA. When Will eventually killed the DA, Damien and Celine had their chance to make a deal with them to gain a body and take revenge on Mark. They left the DA inside the nearby mirror, walking away with their body to seek out Mark.
Aand thats WKM! All of this is speculation and I doubt that Markiplier wrote the story to be like this, but I adore analyzing the story and making my own interpretation. After all, the best way to express deep thoughts is through storytelling, and maybe Markiplier has some expressions in his works.

Ok, something that came to my attention is that if you frame Actor as being Mark's self insert character, the entire way the character carries himself is immediately ten times funnier.
Typically a self insert is a reflection of a persons desired traits, but Mark decided to back that train of logic into reverse in the most drastic way possible.
I mean just look at Actor-
He's divorced, he's been to prison, he has zero sense of direction and no idea what's happening a good chunk of the time, he wears crocs with a three peice suit like it's a normal fashion statement, he didn't have pants on the entire time he was executing his revenge plan, hes a sopping wet rag of a human and he is so violently depressed, he's the inventor of what's commonly known as 'Gaslighting'-
Darkiplier is at least one third his ex wife, Mark didn't need to make that a plot point, he just did and the fact that nobody brings that up is wild to me, good for him though.
The cast at large is a collection of people who are all at fault in their own ways, but Mark took one look at the story he was crafting and said 'I'm going to be the worst person in the room' and I respect that so much.
Even the way Mark carries himself differently from his normal speaking tone when playing this guy is immaculate, the voice acting is absolutely wild. I still can't rewatch 'Damien' because as soon as I hear that asshole start yelling it kicks in my fight or flight response.
TL;DR Actor is a great villain but his execution is so violently off the wall it's absurd, props to Mark for making me genuinely afraid of theater kid.

I've watched the Buckshot Roulette on my old TV and thanks to it awful contrast and blacks, I've noticed that after Mark is "shot" and after his outro, the black screen isn't just blackness. There is something there.
The most dangerous game, huh?

markiplier lore is queer: an essay by me.
dedicated to @system32-cleanmgr <2
so, to start things off, i wanna talk about the gender of it all. because of the gender ambiguity of the viewer insert in almost every markiplier lore video, the universe now has at least three canonical non-binary characters who go by they/them pronouns (wether these characters are all the same character, different characters, or kind of the same character is unknown).
but that's not where the gender fuckery of the better mcu ends. you see, there's also the (subtextual and mostly ignored, yes, but still relevant) overall gender fuckery of darkiplier's character. because, while they present male, they are still in some ways a combination of celine and damien, two people of opposite genders (not to mention the fact that they exist inside the body of the viewer from who killed markiplier, who's one of the formerly mentioned non-binary characters). so, while not explicit representation, i personally like to think of darkiplier as some flavor of genderfluid.
i also feel like damien and celine's specific gender expressions themselves affect darkiplier in some ways: while they're both (presumably) cis, the two still have very distinct ways of performing their respective gender identities. damien portrays a softer version of masculinity, whereas celine shows a slightly harsher femininity than what we're used to seeing in media. he's a bit clueless and sees things from an emotional, human perspective, and she's clearly used to being the rational, fast-paced one, always trying to find solutions. this dynamic might have something to do with them being siblings (and i'm assuming celine's the older of the two, purely because of all the talk of 'keeping damien safe'), and it's not inherently queer, but it is interesting to me that these characters have such specific ways of acting out their genders.
now, this one's not as important, but i would also like to mention the casual usage of they/them pronouns for other characters as well. in in space with markiplier: part 2, mark explicitly refers to the character of lady by they/them pronouns multiple times (this could also be either because they're an alien and mark doesn't know how they identify, or because their actor, lio tipton, is non-binary, but to me, that reads as somewhat solid confirmation that the character goes by they/them pronouns), and mark himself is referred to as "they" by the narrator at least once.
this isn't really a gender identity thing, but rather a gender expression thing, but i do also wanna talk about wilford warfstache and his gender non-conformativity. i do think he identifies as male, all things considered, but he doesn't seem the least bit interested in masculinity as a concept, favouring traditionally (i say traditionally, but i do mean societally, since pink used to be considered a boy color) feminine colors like pink and yellow, and being more than open to expressing his feelings and encouraging other characters to do the same.
now i'm gonna get into the sexualities. how are queer sexualities portrayed in markiplier lore?
well, that's a hard question to answer; no character has ever been (as far as i know) specifically stated to be of any sexual orientation. although there is a high possibility that wilford is pansexual, since he was clearly in love with celine, but it's implied he doesn't really care about the gender of whomever he happens to be romantically or sexually involved with at the time (i.e. him casually asking abe if they used to date, because that really is a possibility).
aside from wilford, because of the ambiguous gender of the viewer insert, a lot of characters end up being inadvertedly queer because of their attraction to them, most of them most likely falling on the m-spec.
there's also something to be said about abe the detective. is he gay or not? well, again, nothing's canon, but i think it's safe to assume he isn't straight. the "accidental" homoerotic innuendos he makes constantly seem less like a joke about being gay, and more like a joke about having repressed, sexual thoughts about someone, and having those thoughts emerge as those kinds of comments.
the "would anyone like to join me?" comment might just be will making fun of him, but i can't find it in myself to think actor mark is straight either. i guess it's just a headcanon, but let's be honest, he's every 'subtly' queer-coded old cartoon villain ever. he's rich, dramatic, petty, and vain, and frankly sometimes being evil and queer is just a fact of life.
but i'm not gonna go further into my headcanons on here, lest this post turn into a list instead of an essay, so i'll just wrap it up here. thanks for listening to my ramble.
