#it is fashion#i’ve come to really like them as opposed to just thinking of ilia as the backstory villain in marina and gwendal’s career.#if you didn’t know: ilia averbukh was originally partners with marina anissina and they were world champions as juniors in 1990 and 1992.#but ilia pulled the dickest move and left marina to partner with irina (who he’d fallen in love with) after that season.#marina was forced to train alone in the same rink as ilia and irina. the russian federation didn’t care to help her find a new partner.#and good male ice dancers are already hard to come by. she literally had to move countries to find one.#luckily gwendal’s dance partner was retiring at the time and he was able to partner with marina and the rest is history.#anyways people say marina got the sweetest revenge by always beating them. being bronze at the 98 olympics while they were 5th#and then GOLD at the 02 olympics while ilia and irina were silver#anyways it couldn’t get more dramatic/literary/cinematic and how is there not a film about this#(i do know why. actors can’t skate and they’re not cool or brave enough to use actual ice dancers)#i want an adult animated feature film about ice dance... along the lines of a satoshi kon film ykwim#ice dance#irina lobacheva#ilia averbukh#figure skating#tango#flamenco
