Curator, 'Nowtilus. Stories from an Urban Lagoon in the 21st Century' (Podcast)
Nowtilus. Stories from an urban lagoon in the 21st century is a research podcast, a polyphonic archive of stories, notes, and themes relating to rethinking Venice today, dispelling myths about the city, and placing the lagoon back at the center of attention.
Nowtilus leads listeners on a journey of discovery and discussion, addressing the lagoon’s sustainability, and the creative and life-affirming activities that its inhabitants carry out every day to keep it alive and extraordinary. Venice is a meeting place for cultures, an aquatic crossroads of knowledges, and a mixture of flavors and outlooks. An invitation to reflect on inclusion, the notion that sustainability can only be achieved through mutual respect between human and non-human lifeforms, and the fact that the city itself, the Queen of the Adriatic, is the result of migrations, exchanges, encounters, connections, and defenses.

A New York Diary
Sono tornata a New York dopo qualche mese in occasione del secondo anniversario di una delle sale cinematografiche più cool della città, il Metrograph nel Lower East Side. Qui Wes Anderson ha presentato il suo ultimo film, Isle of Dogs. La serata è stata fantastica e ricca di ospiti tra cui Chloe Sevigny e Sienna Miller. Il fondatore, Alexander Olch, è un amante della decima musa e per l’occasione ho fatto una selezione di brani tratti dalle colonne sonore dei film.
Un lungo weekend a New York è il momento migliore per fare shopping e vedere alcuni nuovi spettacoli e mostre in città: ho visitato, ad Alma Zevi, la prima mostra personale negli States del mio amico Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda: l’opera, realizzata in vetro di Murano, sarà visibile fino al 25 aprile. Ho anche avuto l’opportunità di fare una visita in studio al talentuoso Justin Giunta (se volete vedere il suo lavoro basta visitare il suo sito).
La mia parte preferita della città per lo shopping rimane l’East Village dove ci sono due dei migliori negozi vintage rimasti: Cobblestones, dell’eclettica Delanee, che è un’istituzione di New York e dove si trovano pezzi vintage originali degli anni ’50 e ’60 (e dove ero solita passare interi pomeriggi quando vivevo a NY) e Local Clothing, dove è ancora possibile trovare creazioni degli anni ’80 e ’90 in ottime condizioni.
Questa volta ho scoperto anche un nuovo negozio: Spark Pretty in cui puoi trovare davvero perle nascoste di abbigliamento originale degli anni ’90.
Un altro posto incredibile di NY è il Crystal Garden sulla decima strada che vende cristalli, argento, pietre e fossili di guarigione (oltre a saggi sugli indiani d’America e tanta energia della Madre Terra).
Un breve pit-stop a Macha Cha Cha su Broome Street e poi si va a incontrare Lorenzo di NO KIDDIN! frsco di un’incredibile collaborazione con Yeah Right NYC. Dal 2008, NO KIDDIN! è stato ispirato dalle immagini dei classici loghi newyorkesi: T-shirt e cappelli fatti a mano ricamati da sarte italiane. Davvero una chicca.
La cena è da Lucien su “First And First“… come si dice a New York. Lucien è un bistrot francese e must di New York, e io e il mio amico Baz adoriamo non solo per il cibo ma anche per l’atmosfera unica grazie anche a una straordinaria playlist musicale scelta accuratamente.
Paul’s Cocktail Lounge aka Paul’s Baby Grand è il miglior bar di New York per l’after-dinner. È del Roxy Hotel ed è stato curato in tutti i dettagli da Paul Sevigny, con lavori dell’artista Josh Smith ai muri. Sevigny ha anche messo il suo tocco su Paul’s Casablanca su Spring Street. Per l’occasione mi sono messa in consolle e molti amici sono venuti a trovarmi sul dancefloor tra cui Daniela Morera, Ricky Clifford, David Croland e Cameron Bond.
Ma a New York non c’è davvero occasione di annoiarsi e domenica sera ho visitato Headz, un fantastico secret painting party a di Downtown NY a supporto della comunità e a sostegno dei giovani di New York.
D’altro canto New York trova sempre il modo di stupirti.
